Genesis 2:3 (AKJV) American King James Version

1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,

5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the middle of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it was parted, and became into four heads.

11 The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasses the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;

12 And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.

13 And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasses the whole land of Ethiopia.

14 And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goes toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.

15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat:

17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of it: for in the day that you eat thereof you shall surely die.

18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them: and whatever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her to the man.

23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall join to his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

3 And God ^H430 ^EDP blessed ^H1288 ^W-VNY3MS the seventh ^H7637 ^D-ONUM day ^H3117 ^NMS , and sanctified ^H6942 ^W-VPY3MS it : because ^H3588 ^CONJ that in it he had rested ^H7673 ^VQQ3MS from all ^H3605 ^M-NMS his work ^H4399 ^CFS-3MS which ^H834 ^RPRO God ^H430 ^EDP created ^H1254 ^AMS and made ^H6213 ^L-CFP .

4 These ^H428 ^PMP are the generations ^H8435 ^CFP of the heavens ^H8064 ^D-NMD and of the earth ^H776 ^WD-GFS when they were created ^H1254 ^B-VNFC-3MP , in the day ^H3117 ^B-NMS that the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS God ^H430 ^EDP made ^H6213 ^VQFC the earth ^H776 ^GFS and the heavens ^H8064 ^W-NMD ,

5 And every ^H3605 ^W-CMS plant ^H7880 ^CMS of the field ^H7704 ^D-NMS before ^H2962 ^ADV it was ^H1961 ^VQY3MS in the earth ^H776 ^BD-GFS , and every ^H3605 ^W-CMS herb ^H6212 ^NMS of the field ^H7704 ^D-NMS before ^H2962 ^ADV it grew ^H6779 ^VQY3MS : for ^H3588 ^CONJ the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS God ^H430 ^EDP had not ^H3808 ^NADV caused it to rain ^H4305 ^VHQ3MS upon ^H5921 ^PREP the earth ^H776 ^D-GFS , and there was not ^H369 ^ADV a man ^H120 ^W-NMS to till ^H5647 ^L-VQFC the ground ^H127 ^D-NFS .

6 But there went up ^H5927 ^VQY3MS a mist ^H108 ^W-NMS from ^H4480 ^PREP the earth ^H776 ^D-GFS , and watered ^H8248 ^W-VHQ3MS the whole ^H3605 ^NMS face ^H6440 ^CMS of the ground ^H127 ^D-NFS .

7 And the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS God ^H430 ^EDP formed ^H3335 ^W-VQY3MS man ^H120 ^D-NMS of the dust ^H6083 ^NMS of ^H4480 ^PREP the ground ^H127 ^D-NFS , and breathed ^H5301 ^W-VQY3MS into his nostrils ^H639 ^B-NMS-3MS the breath ^H5397 ^CFS of life ^H2416 ^NMP ; and man ^H120 ^D-NMS became ^H1961 ^W-VPY3MS a living ^H2416 ^AFS soul ^H5315 ^L-GFS .

8 And the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS God ^H430 ^EDP planted ^H5193 ^W-VQY3MS a garden ^H1588 ^NMS eastward ^H6924 ^M-NMS in Eden ^H5731 ^B-GFS ; and there ^H8033 ^ADV he put ^H7760 ^W-VQY3MS the man ^H120 ^D-NMS whom ^H834 ^RPRO he had formed ^H3335 ^VQQ3MS .

9 And out of ^H4480 ^PREP the ground ^H127 ^D-NFS made the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS God ^H430 ^EDP to grow ^H6779 ^W-VHY3MS every ^H3605 ^NMS tree ^H6086 ^NMS that is pleasant ^H2530 ^VNPMS to the sight ^H4758 ^L-GMS , and good ^H2896 ^AMS for food ^H3978 ^L-NMS ; the tree ^H6086 ^W-NMS of life ^H2416 ^D-NMP also in the midst ^H8432 ^B-NMS of the garden ^H1588 ^D-NMS , and the tree ^H6086 ^W-NMS of knowledge ^H1847 ^D-CFS of good ^H2896 ^AMS and evil ^H7451 ^W-AMS .

10 And a river ^H5104 ^W-NMS went out ^H3318 ^VQPMS of Eden ^H5731 ^M-GFS to water ^H8248 ^L-VHFC the garden ^H1588 ^D-NMS ; and from thence ^H8033 ^WM-ADV it was parted ^H6504 ^VNY3MS , and became ^H1961 ^W-VQQ3MS into four ^H702 ^L-ONUM heads ^H7218 ^NMP .

11 The name ^H8034 ^CMS of the first ^H259 ^D-AMS is Pison ^H6376 ^GFS : that is it ^H1931 ^PPRO-3MS which compasseth ^H5437 ^D-VQPMS the whole ^H3605 ^NMS land ^H776 ^GFS of Havilah ^H2341 ^D-NFS , where ^H834 ^RPRO there is gold ^H2091 ^D-NMS ;

12 And the gold ^H2091 ^W-CMS of that ^H1931 ^D-PPRO-3FS land ^H776 ^D-GFS is good ^H2896 ^AMS : there ^H8033 ^ADV is bdellium ^H916 ^D-NMS and the onyx ^H7718 ^D-NMS stone ^H68 ^W-GFS .

13 And the name ^H8034 ^W-CMS of the second ^H8145 ^D-ONUM river ^H5104 ^D-NMS is Gihon ^H1521 ^GFS : the same ^H1931 ^PPRO-3MS is it that compasseth ^H5437 ^D-VQPMS the whole ^H3605 ^NMS land ^H776 ^GFS of Ethiopia ^H3568 ^GFS .

14 And the name ^H8034 ^W-CMS of the third ^H7992 ^D-ONUM river ^H5104 ^D-NMS is Hiddekel ^H2313 ^GFS : that is it ^H1931 ^PPRO-3MS which goeth ^H1980 ^D-VQPMS toward the east ^H6926 ^CFS of Assyria ^H804 ^GFS . And the fourth ^H7243 ^D-ONUM river ^H5104 ^WD-NMS is Euphrates ^H6578 ^GFS .

15 And the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS God ^H430 ^EDP took ^H3947 ^W-VQY3MS the man ^H120 ^D-NMS , and put ^H5117 him into the garden ^H1588 ^B-CMS of Eden ^H5731 ^GFS to dress ^H5647 ^L-VQFC-3FS it and to keep ^H8104 ^WL-VQFC it .

16 And the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS God ^H430 ^EDP commanded ^H6680 ^W-VPY3MS the man ^H120 ^D-NMS , saying ^H559 ^L-VQFC , Of every ^H3605 ^M-CMS tree ^H6086 ^NMS of the garden ^H1588 ^D-NMS thou mayest freely eat ^H398 ^VQFA :

17 But of the tree ^H6086 ^WM-CMS of the knowledge ^H1847 ^D-CFS of good ^H2896 ^AMS and evil ^H7451 ^W-AMS , thou shalt not ^H3808 ^NADV eat ^H398 ^VQY2MS of ^H4480 ^M-PREP-3MS it : for ^H3588 ^CONJ in the day ^H3117 ^B-NMS that thou eatest ^H398 ^VQFC-2MS thereof ^H4480 ^M-PREP-3MS thou shalt surely die ^H4191 ^VQFA .

18 And the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS God ^H430 ^EDP said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , It is not ^H3808 ^NADV good ^H2896 ^AMS that the man ^H120 ^D-NMS should be ^H1961 ^VQFC alone ^H905 ^L-CMS-3MS ; I will make ^H6213 ^VQY1MS him a help ^H5828 ^NMS meet for him ^H5048 ^K-PREP-3MS .

19 And out of ^H4480 ^PREP the ground ^H127 ^D-NFS the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS God ^H430 ^EDP formed ^H3335 ^W-VQY3MS every ^H3605 ^NMS beast ^H2416 ^CFS of the field ^H7704 ^D-NMS , and every ^H3605 ^NMS fowl ^H5775 ^NMS of the air ^H8064 ^D-NMD ; and brought ^H935 ^W-VHY3MS them unto ^H413 ^PREP Adam ^H121 to see ^H7200 ^L-VQFC what ^H4100 ^IPRO he would call ^H7121 ^VQY3MS them : and whatsoever ^H3605 ^NMS Adam ^H121 called ^H7121 ^VQY3MS every living ^H2416 ^AFS creature ^H5315 ^GFS , that ^H1931 ^PPRO-3MS was the name ^H8034 ^CMS-3MS thereof .

20 And Adam ^H121 gave ^H7121 ^W-VQY3MS names ^H8034 ^CFP to all ^H3605 ^L-NMS cattle ^H929 ^D-NFS , and to the fowl ^H5775 ^WL-CMS of the air ^H8064 ^D-NMD , and to every ^H3605 ^WL-CMS beast ^H2416 ^CFS of the field ^H7704 ^D-NMS ; but for Adam ^H121 there was not ^H3808 ^ADV found ^H4672 ^VQPMS a help ^H5828 ^NMS meet for him ^H5048 ^K-PREP-3MS .

21 And the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS God ^H430 ^EDP caused a deep sleep ^H8639 ^NFS to fall ^H5307 ^W-VHY3MS upon ^H5921 ^PREP Adam ^H121 , and he slept ^H3462 ^W-VQY3MS : and he took ^H3947 ^W-VQY3MS one ^H259 ^OFS of his ribs ^H6763 ^M-CFP-3MS , and closed up ^H5462 ^W-VQY3MS the flesh ^H1320 ^NMS instead ^H8478 ^PREP-3FS thereof ;

22 And the rib ^H6763 ^D-GFS , which ^H834 ^RPRO the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS God ^H430 ^EDP had taken ^H3947 ^VQQ3MS from ^H4480 ^PREP man ^H120 ^D-NMS , made ^H1129 ^W-VQY3MS he a woman ^H802 ^L-NFS , and brought ^H935 ^W-VHY3MS-3FS her unto ^H413 ^PREP the man ^H120 ^D-NMS .

23 And Adam ^H121 said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , This ^H2063 ^DPRO is now ^H6471 ^D-GFS bone ^H6106 ^GFS of my bones ^H6106 ^M-GFS-1MS , and flesh ^H1320 ^W-NMS of my flesh ^H1320 ^M-CMS-1MS : she ^H2063 ^L-DPRO shall be called ^H7121 ^VNY3MS Woman ^H802 ^NFS , because ^H3588 ^CONJ she ^H2063 ^DPRO was taken ^H3947 ^VWQ3FS out of Man ^H376 ^M-NMS .

24 Therefore ^H5921 ^PREP shall a man ^H376 ^NMS leave ^H5800 ^VQY3MS his father ^H1 ^CMS-3MS and his mother ^H517 ^GFS-3MS , and shall cleave ^H1692 ^W-VQQ3MS unto his wife ^H802 ^B-CFS-3MS : and they shall be ^H1961 ^W-VQQ3MS one ^H259 ^ONUM flesh ^H1320 ^L-NMS .

25 And they were ^H1961 ^W-VQY3MP both ^H8147 ^ONUM-3MP naked ^H6174 ^AMP , the man ^H120 ^D-NMS and his wife ^H802 ^W-CFS-3MS , and were not ^H3808 ^W-NPAR ashamed ^H954 ^VHY2MP .
