1 ঘূর্ণিঝড় পাঠিয়ে প্রভুর যখন এলিয়কে স্বর্গে নিয়ে যাবার সময় হয়ে এসেছে, এলিয় এবং ইলীশায় তখন গিল্গল থেকে ফিরে আসার পথে|
2 এলিয় ইলীশায়কে বললেন, “তুমি এখানেই থাকো, কারণ প্রভু আমাকে বৈথেল পর্য়ন্ত য়েতে বলেছেন|”কিন্তু ইলীশায় বললেন, “আমি জীবন্ত প্রভুর নামে ও আপনার নামে শপথ করে বলছি য়ে আমি আপনাকে একলা ছেড়ে যাবো না|” সুতরাং তাঁরা দুজনেই তখন বৈথেলে গেলেন|
3 বৈথেলে ভাব্বাদীদের একদল শিষ্য এসে ইলীশায়কে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “আপনি কি জানেন য়ে আজ প্রভু আপনার মনিবকে আপনার কাছ থেকে সরিয়ে নিয়ে যাবেন?”ইলীশায় বললেন, “হ্যাঁ জানি| ওকথা থাক|”
4 এলিয় ইলীশায়কে আদেশ করলেন, “তুমি এখানেই থাকো কারণ প্রভু আমাকে য়িরীহোতে য়েতে বলেছেন|”কিন্তু ইলীশায় আবার বললেন, “আমি জীবন্ত প্রভু এবং আপনার নামে শপথ করে বলছি য়ে আমি আপনাকে ছেড়ে যাব না!” তখন তাঁরা দুজনে এক সঙ্গেই য়িরীহোতে গেলেন|
5 য়িরীহোতে আবার ভাব্বাদীদের একদল শিষ্য এসে ইলীশায়কে জিজ্ঞেস করলেন, “আপনি কি জানেন য়ে প্রভু আজই আপনার মনিবকে আপনার কাছ থেকে দূরে নিয়ে যাবেন?”ইলীশায় উত্তর দিলেন, “হ্যাঁ, জানি| আমাকে সেটা মনে করিযে দেবেন না|”
6 এলিয় তখন ইলীশায়কে বললেন, “এখন তুমি এখানেই থাকো| প্রভু আমাকে যর্দন নদীতে য়েতে নির্দেশ দিয়েছেন|”কিন্তু ইলীশায় উত্তর দিলেন, “আমি জীবন্ত প্রভু এবং আপনার নামে শপথ করে বলছি য়ে আমি আপনাকে ছেড়ে যাব না!” তখন তাঁরা দুজনে এক সঙ্গেই য়েতে লাগলেন|
7 ভাব্বাদীদের প্রায় 50 জন শিষ্যের একটি দল তাঁদের পেছন পেছন যাচ্ছিলেন| এলিয় এবং ইলীশায় যখন যর্দন নদীর সামনে গিয়ে দাঁড়ালেন তখন ঐ দলটিও তাঁদের থেকে বেশ কিছুটা দূরত্ব রেখে দাঁড়িয়ে পড়লো|
8 এলিয় তাঁর পরণের শাল খুলে সেটাকে ভাঁজ করলেন এবং সেটা দিয়ে জলে আঘাত করলেন| জলধারা ডাঁযে ও বামে ভাগ হয়ে গেল| এলিয় আর ইলীশায় তখন শুকনো মাটির ওপর দিয়ে হেঁটে নদী পার হলেন|
9 নদী পার হবার পর এলিয় ইলীশায়কে বললেন, “ঈশ্বর আমাকে তোমার কাছ থেকে বিচ্ছিন্ন করার আগে বলো, আমি তোমার জন্য কি করতে পারি?”ইলীশায় বলল, “আমি চাই আপনার আত্মার দ্বিগুণ অংশ আমার ওপর ভর করুক|”
10 এলিয় বললেন, “তুমি বড় কঠিন বস্তু চেয়েছ| আমাকে যখন তোমার কাছ থেকে সরিয়ে নেওয়া হবে, তখন যদি তুমি আমাকে দেখতে পাও তাহলে তোমার মনের ইচ্ছা পূর্ণ হবে; কিন্তু যদি দেখতে না পাও তাহলে তোমার মনের ইচ্ছা অপূর্ণই থেকে যাবে|”
11 এসব কথাবার্তা বলতে বলতে এলিয় আর ইলীশায় একসঙ্গে হাঁটছিলেন| হঠাত্‌ কোথা থেকে আগুনের মতো দ্রুত গতিতে ঘোড়ায় টানা একটা রথ এসে দুজনকে আলাদা করে দিল| তারপর একটা ঘূর্ণি ঝড় এসে এলিয়কে স্বর্গে তুলে নিয়ে গেল|
12 ইলীশায় স্বচক্ষে এ ঘটনা দেখে চিত্কার করে উঠলেন, “আমার মনিব! হে আমার পিতা! তোমরা সবাই দেখ! ইস্রায়েলের রথ আর তাঁর অশ্ববাহিনী!”ইলীশায় এরপর আর কখনও এলিয়কে দেখতে পান নি| এ ঘটনার পর ইলীশায় মনের দুঃখে তাঁর পরিধেয বস্ত্র ছিঁড়ে ফেললেন|
13 এলিয়র শালটা তখনও মাটিতে পড়ে ছিল, তাই ইলীশায় সেটা তুলে নিলেন| তারপর তিনি নদীর জলে আঘাত করলেন এবং বললেন, “কই, কোথায প্রভু? এলিয়র ঈশ্বর কই?”
14 য়ে মূহুর্তে শালটা গিয়ে জলে পড়ল, জলরাশি দুভাগ হয়ে গেল, আর ইলীশায় হেঁটে নদী পার হলেন!
15 ভাব্বাদীদের সেই দলটি যখন য়িরীহোতে ইলীশায়কে দেখতে পেলেন, তাঁরা বললেন, “এলিয়র আত্মা এখন ইলীশায়ের ওপরে ভর করেছেন!” তারপর তাঁরা ইলীশায়ের কাছে এলেন এবং তাঁর সামনে মাথা নত করলেন|
16 তাঁরা তাঁকে বললেন, “দেখুন, আমাদের নিয়ে এখানে 50 জন লোক আছে, তারা সবাই য়োদ্ধার জাত| আপনি যদি অনুমতি করেন, ওরা আপনার মনিবের খোঁজে যাবে| হয়তো প্রভুর আত্মা আপনার মনিবকে তুলে নিয়েছে এবং কোন পর্বতের ওপর বা কোন উপত্যকায ফেলে গেছেন!”কিন্তু ইলীশায় বললেন, “না না, ওঁর খোঁজে কাউকে পাঠানোর প্রয়োজন নেই!”
17 কিন্তু ভাব্বাদীদের সেই শিষ্যদের দল ইলীশায়কে এমন ভাবে মিনতি করতে লাগলো য়ে তিনি হতবুদ্ধি হয়ে পড়লেন| তারপর তিনি বললেন, “ঠিক আছে| এলিয়কে খুঁজে বের করতে কাউকে পাঠাও|”ভাব্বাদীদের দলটি এলিয়কে খুঁজে বের করবার জন্য 50 জন শিষ্যকে পাঠিয়ে দিলেন| তিনদিন খোঁজাখুজির পরেও তাঁরা এলিয়কে খুঁজে পেলেন না|
18 অতএব তাঁরা য়িরীহোতে থাকাকালীন সময়ে ইলীশায়ের কাছে ফিরে গেলেন এবং তাঁকে এখবর দিলেন| ইলীশায় তাদের বললেন, “আমি তো আগেই তোমাদের য়েতে বারণ করেছিলাম|”
19 শহরের লোকরা এসে ইলীশায়কে বলল, “মহাশয আপনি তো দেখতেই পাচ্ছেন য়ে এটি শহরের জন্য একটি উত্তম জায়গা| কিন্তু এখানকার জল খুবই খারাপ এবং জমি সুফলা নয়|”
20 ইলীশায় বললেন, “একটা নতুন বাটিতে করে আমাকে কিছুটা লবণ এনে দাও|”লোকরা কথা মতো ইলীশায়কে বাটি এনে দিতে,
21 ইলীশায় সেটাকে জলের উত্‌সের কাছে নিয়ে গেলেন, লবণটা তাতে ফেলে দিলেন এবং বললেন, “প্রভু যা বলেন তা হল এই: ‘আমি এই জল পবিত্র করলাম! এরপর থেকে এই জল খেলে আর কারো মৃত্যু হবে না| এই জমিতেও এবার থেকে ফসল হবে|”‘
22 ইলীশায়ের কথা মতো তখন সেই জল বিশুদ্ধ হয়ে গেল এবং আজ পর্য়ন্ত তা সে রকমই আছে!
23 সেখান থেকে ইলীশায় বৈথেল শহরে গেলেন| তিনি যখন শহরে যাবার জন্য পর্বত পার হচ্ছিলেন তখন শহর থেকে একদল বালক বেরিয়ে এসে তাঁকে নিয়ে ঠাট্টা-তামাশা শুরু করলো| তারা ইলীশায়কে বিদ্রূপ করল এবং বললো, “এই য়ে টাকমাথা, তাড়াতাড়ি কর! তাড়াতাড়ি পর্বতে ওঠ! টেকো!”
24 ইলীশায় মাথা ঘুরিযে তাদের দিকে দেখলেন, তারপর প্রভুর নামে তাদের অভিশাপ দিলেন| তখন জঙ্গল থেকে হঠাত্‌ দুটো বিশাল ভাল্লুক বেরিয়ে এসে সেই 42 জন বালককে তীব্র ভাবে ক্ষত-বিক্ষত করে দিল|
25 ইলীশায় বৈথেল থেকে কর্ম্মিল পর্বত হয়ে শমরিয়াতে ফিরে গেলেন|
1 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , when the LORD H3068 EDS would take up H5927 Elijah H452 into heaven H8064 D-AMP by a whirlwind H5591 , that Elijah H452 went H1980 W-VQY3MS with Elisha H477 from H4480 PREP Gilgal H1537 .
2 And Elijah H452 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Elisha H477 , Tarry H3427 here H6311 , I pray thee H4994 IJEC ; for H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS hath sent H7971 me to H5704 PREP Bethel H1008 LFS . And Elisha H477 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto him , As the LORD H3068 EDS liveth H2416 AMS , and as thy soul H5315 liveth H2416 , I will not H518 PART leave H5800 thee . So they went down H3381 to Bethel H1008 LFS .
3 And the sons H1121 of the prophets H5030 that H834 RPRO were at Bethel H1008 LFS came forth H3318 W-VQY3MP to H413 PREP Elisha H477 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him , Knowest H3045 I-VQQ2MS thou that H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS will take away H3947 thy master H113 from M-PREP thy head H7218 today H3117 D-AMS ? And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Yea H1571 CONJ , I H589 PPRO-1MS know H3045 VQY1MS it ; hold ye your peace H2814 .
4 And Elijah H452 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto him , Elisha H477 , tarry H3427 here H6311 , I pray thee H4994 IJEC ; for H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS hath sent H7971 me to Jericho H3405 . And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , As the LORD H3068 EDS liveth H2416 AMS , and as thy soul H5315 liveth H2416 , I will not H518 PART leave H5800 thee . So they came H935 W-VQY3MP to Jericho H3405 .
5 And the sons H1121 of the prophets H5030 that H834 RPRO were at Jericho H3405 came H5066 to H413 PREP Elisha H477 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him , Knowest H3045 I-VQQ2MS thou that H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS will take away H3947 thy master H113 from M-PREP thy head H7218 today H3117 D-AMS ? And he answered H559 W-VQY3MS , Yea H1571 CONJ , I H589 PPRO-1MS know H3045 VQY1MS it ; hold ye your peace H2814 .
6 And Elijah H452 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto him , Tarry H3427 , I pray thee H4994 IJEC , here H6311 ; for H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS hath sent H7971 me to Jordan H3383 . And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , As the LORD H3068 EDS liveth H2416 AMS , and as thy soul H5315 liveth H2416 , I will not H518 PART leave H5800 thee . And they two H8147 went on H1980 W-VQY3MP .
7 And fifty H2572 W-MMP men H376 of the sons H1121 of the prophets H5030 went H1980 , and stood H5975 to view H5048 M-PREP afar off H7350 M-AMS : and they two H8147 stood H5975 VQQ3MP by H5921 PREP Jordan H3383 .
8 And Elijah H452 took H3947 W-VQY3MS his mantle H155 CFS-3MS , and wrapped it together H1563 , and smote H5221 the waters H4325 D-CMS , and they were divided H2673 hither H2008 ADV and thither H2008 , so that they two H8147 ONUM-3MP went over H5674 on dry ground H2724 .
9 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , when they were gone over H5674 , that Elijah H452 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Elisha H477 , Ask H7592 VQI2MS what H4100 IGAT I shall do H6213 VQY1MS for thee , before H2962 B-ADV I be taken away H3947 from thee . And Elisha H477 said H559 W-VQY3MS , I pray thee H4994 IJEC , let a double H8147 ONUM portion H6310 of thy spirit H7307 be H1961 upon H413 PREP me .
10 And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Thou hast asked H7592 a hard thing H7185 : nevertheless , if H518 PART thou see H7200 me when I am taken H3947 from thee , it shall be H1961 so H3651 ADV unto thee ; but if H518 PART not H369 ADV , it shall not H3808 NADV be H1961 so .
11 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , as they H1992 PPRO-3MP still went on H1980 , and talked H1696 , that , behold H2009 IJEC , there appeared a chariot H7393 of fire H784 CMS , and horses H5483 of fire H784 CMS , and parted H6504 them both H8147 ONUM-3MP asunder H996 PREP ; and Elijah H452 went up H5927 W-VHY3MS by a whirlwind H5591 into heaven H8064 D-AMD .
12 And Elisha H477 saw H7200 VQPMS it , and he H1931 W-PPRO-3MS cried H6817 , My father H1 CMS-1MS , my father H1 CMS-1MS , the chariot H7393 of Israel H3478 , and the horsemen H6571 thereof . And he saw H7200 him no H3808 W-NPAR more H5750 ADV : and he took hold H2388 of his own clothes H899 , and rent H7167 them in two H8147 pieces H7168 .
13 He took up H7311 also the mantle H155 of Elijah H452 that H834 RPRO fell H5307 from PREP him , and went back H7725 , and stood H5975 by H5921 PREP the bank H8193 CFS of Jordan H3383 ;
14 And he took H3947 W-VQY3MS the mantle H155 of Elijah H452 that H834 RPRO fell H5307 from him , and smote H5221 the waters H4325 D-CMS , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Where H346 IGAT is the LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of Elijah H452 ? and when he H1931 PPRO-3MS also H637 CONJ had smitten H5221 the waters H4325 D-CMS , they parted H2673 hither H2008 ADV and thither H2008 : and Elisha H477 went over H5674 .
15 And when the sons H1121 of the prophets H5030 which H834 RPRO were to view H5048 M-PREP at Jericho H3405 saw H7200 him , they said H559 W-VQY3MP , The spirit H7307 NFS of Elijah H452 doth rest H5117 on H5921 PREP Elisha H477 . And they came H935 W-VQY3MP to meet H7125 L-VQFC-3MS him , and bowed themselves H7812 to the ground H776 NFS-3FS before him .
16 And they said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him , Behold H2009 IJEC now H4994 IJEC , there be H3426 with H854 PREP thy servants H5650 fifty H2572 MMP strong H1121 men H376 NMP ; let them go H1980 , we pray thee H4994 IJEC , and seek H1245 thy master H113 : lest peradventure H6435 CONJ the Spirit H7307 NFS of the LORD H3068 EDS hath taken him up H5375 , and cast H7993 him upon some H259 mountain H2022 , or H176 CONJ into some H259 B-RFS valley H1516 . And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Ye shall not H3808 NADV send H7971 .
17 And when they urged H6484 him till H5704 PREP he was ashamed H954 , he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Send H7971 . They sent H7971 therefore fifty H2572 MMP men H376 NMS ; and they sought H1245 three H7969 days H3117 NMP , but found H4672 him not H3808 W-NPAR .
18 And when they came again H7725 W-VUY3MP to H413 PREP-3MS him , (for he H1931 W-PPRO-3MS tarried H3427 VQPMS at Jericho H3405 , ) he said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS them , Did I not H3808 say H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 you , Go H1980 not H408 NPAR ?
19 And the men H376 CMP of the city H5892 D-GFS said H559 W-VQY3MP unto H413 PREP Elisha H477 , Behold H2009 IJEC , I pray thee H4994 IJEC , the situation H4186 of this city H5892 D-GFS is pleasant H2896 AMS , as H834 K-RPRO my lord H113 seeth H7200 VQPMS : but the water H4325 WD-NMD is naught H7451 AMP , and the ground H776 WD-GFS barren H7921 .
20 And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Bring H3947 me a new H2319 cruse H6746 , and put H7760 W-VQI2MP salt H4417 NMS therein H8033 ADV . And they brought H3947 W-VQY3MP it to H413 him .
21 And he went forth H3318 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP the spring H4161 NMS of the waters H4325 D-CMS , and cast H7993 the salt H4417 NMS in there H8033 ADV , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Thus H3541 saith H559 W-VQY3MS the LORD H3068 EDS , I have healed H7495 these H428 D-DPRO-3MP waters H4325 D-CMS ; there shall not H3808 ADV be H1961 VQY3MS from thence H8033 M-ADV any more H5750 ADV death H4194 NMS or barren H7921 land .
22 So the waters H4325 D-CMS were healed H7495 unto H5704 PREP this H2088 D-PMS day H3117 D-AMS , according to the saying H1697 K-NMS of Elisha H477 which H834 RPRO he spoke H1696 .
23 And he went up H5927 W-VHY3MS from thence H8033 M-ADV unto Bethel H1008 LFS : and as he H1931 W-PPRO-3MS was going up H5927 by the way H1870 , there came forth H3318 VQQ3MP little H6996 children H5288 out of H4480 PREP the city H5892 D-GFS , and mocked H7046 him , and said H559 W-VQY3MP unto him , Go up H5927 , thou bald head H7142 ; go up H5927 , thou bald head H7142 .
24 And he turned H6437 back H310 , and looked H7200 on them , and cursed H7043 them in the name H8034 B-CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS . And there came forth H3318 two H8147 MFD she bears H1677 out of H4480 PREP the wood H3293 , and tore H1234 forty H705 MMP and two H8147 children H3206 of H4480 PREP them .
25 And he went H1980 W-VQY3MS from thence H8033 M-ADV to H413 PREP mount H2022 CMS Carmel H3760 , and from thence H8033 WM-ADV he returned H7725 VQQ3MS to Samaria H8111 .
