1 అప్పుడు యెహోషువతో యెహోవా ఇలా చెప్పాడు:
2 “నీకు ఒక ఆజ్ఞ ఇచ్చేందుకు నేను మోషేను వాడుకొన్నాను. ప్రత్యేకమైన ఆశ్రయ పురాలను నిర్మించుమని మోషే నీతో చెప్పాడు.
3 ఎవరైనా ఒక వ్యకి మరొక వ్యక్తిని చంపితే, అది ప్రమాదవశాత్తు జరిగిందే తప్ప, ఆ వ్యక్తిని చంపాలనే ఉద్దేశం లేకపోతే, అప్పుడు అతడు దాగుకొనేందుకు ఒక ఆశ్రయ పురానికి వెళ్ల వచ్చును.
4 “ఆ వ్యక్తి ఇలా చేయాలి. అతడు పారిపోయి, ఆ పట్టణాల్లో ఒకదానికి వెళ్లినప్పుడు, ఆ పట్టణ ప్రవేశందగ్గర అతడు ఆగిపోవాలి. అతడు ద్వారం దగ్గర ఆగిపోయి, జరిగిన విషయాన్ని గూర్చి ప్రజానాయకులకు చెప్పాలి. అప్పుడు ఆ ప్రజానాయకులు అతణ్ణి ఆ పట్టణంలో ప్రవేశింప నియ్యవచ్చును. అతడు వాళ్ల మధ్య నివసించేందుకు వారు అతనికి ఒక స్థలం ఇస్తారు.
5 అయితే వానిని తరుముతున్న వాడు అతణ్ణి వెంబడించి ఆ పట్టణానికి రావచ్చును. ఇలా గనుక జరిగితే ఆ పట్టణ నాయకులు వదలిపెట్టకూడదు. ఆశ్రయం కోసం వారి దగ్గరకు వచ్చిన వ్యక్తిని వారు కాపాడాలి. ఆ వ్యకి చంపినవానిని ఉద్దేశ పూర్వకంగా చంపలేదు గనుక వారు అతణ్ణి కాపాడాలి. అది ప్రమాదవశాత్తు జరిగింది. అతడు కోపంతో, ఆ వ్యక్తిని చంపాలని చేసిన నిర్ణయం కాదు. అది ఏదో అలా జరిగిపోయింది.
6 ఆ పట్టణంలోని న్యాయస్థానం అతనికి తీర్పు తీర్చేంతవరకు అతడు ఆ పట్టణంలో ఉండాలి. మరియు ప్రధాన యాజకుడు మరణించేంతవరకు అతడు ఆ పట్టణంలోనే ఉండి పోవాలి. తర్వాత అతడు ఏ పట్టణం నుండి పారిపోయాడో అక్కడి తన స్వంత ఇంటికి తిరిగి వెళ్లవచ్చును.”

8 యోర్దాను నది తూర్పు దిక్కున, యెరికో దగ్గర రూబేను దేశంలోని అరణ్యంలో బేసెరు, గాదు దేశంలోని గిలాదులో రామోతు, మనష్షే దేశంలోని బాషానులో గోలాను.
9 ఏ ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు అయినా, వారి మధ్య నివసిస్తున్న ఏవ్యక్తి అయినా ప్రమాదవశాత్తు ఒకరిని చంపినట్లయితే, ఆ వ్యక్తి భద్రతకోసం ఈ ఆశ్రయ పురాలలో ఒక దానికి పారిపోవచ్చును. అప్పుడు ఆ వ్యక్తి అక్కడ క్షేమంగా ఉంటాడు, అతణ్ణి తరుముతున్న ఎవరిచేతగాని అతడు చంపబడడు. ఆ పట్టణ న్యాయస్థానం, ఆ పట్టణంలో అతనికి న్యాయం తీరుస్తుంది.

3 That the slayer H7523 VQPMS that killeth H5221 any person H5315 GFS unawares H7684 and unwittingly H1097 B-ADV may flee H5127 thither H8033 ADV-3FS : and they shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS your refuge H4733 from the avenger H1350 of blood H1818 .
4 And when he that doth flee H5127 unto H413 PREP one H259 OFS of those H428 D-DPRO-3MP cities H5892 shall stand H5975 W-VQQ3MS at the entering H6607 CMS of the gate H8179 NMS of the city H5892 D-GFS , and shall declare H1696 his cause H1697 CMP-3MS in the ears H241 of the elders H2205 of that H1931 city H5892 D-GFS , they shall take H622 him into the city H5892 unto them , and give H5414 him a place H4725 NUM-MS , that he may dwell H3427 among H5973 them .
5 And if H3588 CONJ the avenger H1350 of blood H1818 pursue H7291 after H310 him , then they shall not H3808 W-NPAR deliver H5462 the slayer H7523 up into his hand H3027 B-CFS-3MS ; because H3588 CONJ he smote H5221 his neighbor H7453 NMS-3MS unwittingly H1097 , and hated H8130 him not H3808 W-NPAR formerly H8543 .
6 And he shall dwell H3427 in that H1931 city H5892 BD-NFS , until H5704 PREP he stand H5975 before H6440 L-CMP the congregation H5712 for judgment H4941 , and until H5704 PREP the death H4194 of the high H1419 D-AMS priest H3548 that H834 RPRO shall be H1961 VQY3MS in those H1992 D-PPRO-3MP days H3117 BD-NMP : then H227 ADV shall the slayer H7523 return H7725 VQY3MS , and come H935 unto H413 PREP his own city H5892 , and unto H413 PREP his own house H1004 NMS-3MS , unto H413 PREP the city H5892 D-GFS from whence H834 RPRO he fled H5127 .
7 And they appointed H6942 Kedesh H6943 in Galilee H1551 in mount H2022 Naphtali H5321 , and Shechem H7927 LMS in mount H2022 Ephraim H669 , and Kirjath H7153 - arba , which H1931 PPRO-3FS is Hebron H2275 , in the mountain H2022 of Judah H3063 .
8 And on the other side H5676 Jordan H3383 by Jericho H3405 eastward H4217 , they assigned H5414 Bezer H1221 in the wilderness H4057 upon the plain H4334 out of the tribe H4294 of Reuben H7205 , and Ramoth H7216 in Gilead H1568 out of the tribe H4294 of Gad H1410 , and Golan H1474 in Bashan H1316 out of the tribe H4294 of Manasseh H4519 .
