Jeremiah 33 (ESV) English Standard Version

1 The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still shut up in the court of the guard:

2 "Thus says the LORD who made the earth, the LORD who formed it to establish it- the LORD is his name:

3 Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.

4 For thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city and the houses of the kings of Judah that were torn down to make a defense against the siege mounds and against the sword:

5 They are coming in to fight against the Chaldeans and to fill them with the dead bodies of men whom I shall strike down in my anger and my wrath, for I have hidden my face from this city because of all their evil.

6 Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them and reveal to them abundance of prosperity and security.

7 I will restore the fortunes of Judah and the fortunes of Israel, and rebuild them as they were at first.

8 I will cleanse them from all the guilt of their sin against me, and I will forgive all the guilt of their sin and rebellion against me.

9 And this city shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and a glory before all the nations of the earth who shall hear of all the good that I do for them. They shall fear and tremble because of all the good and all the prosperity I provide for it.

10 "Thus says the LORD: In this place of which you say, 'It is a waste without man or beast,' in the cities of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem that are desolate, without man or inhabitant or beast, there shall be heard again

11 the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voices of those who sing, as they bring thank offerings to the house of the LORD: "' Give thanks to the LORD of hosts, for the LORD is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!' For I will restore the fortunes of the land as at first, says the LORD.

12 "Thus says the LORD of hosts: In this place that is waste, without man or beast, and in all of its cities, there shall again be habitations of shepherds resting their flocks.

13 In the cities of the hill country, in the cities of the Shephelah, and in the cities of the Negeb, in the land of Benjamin, the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, flocks shall again pass under the hands of the one who counts them, says the LORD.

14 "Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah.

15 In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David, and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land.

16 In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will dwell securely. And this is the name by which it will be called: 'The LORD is our righteousness.'

17 "For thus says the LORD: David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel,

18 and the Levitical priests shall never lack a man in my presence to offer burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings, and to make sacrifices forever."

19 The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:

20 "Thus says the LORD: If you can break my covenant with the day and my covenant with the night, so that day and night will not come at their appointed time,

21 then also my covenant with David my servant may be broken, so that he shall not have a son to reign on his throne, and my covenant with the Levitical priests my ministers.

22 As the host of heaven cannot be numbered and the sands of the sea cannot be measured, so I will multiply the offspring of David my servant, and the Levitical priests who minister to me."

23 The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:

24 "Have you not observed that these people are saying, 'The LORD has rejected the two clans that he chose'? Thus they have despised my people so that they are no longer a nation in their sight.

25 Thus says the LORD: If I have not established my covenant with day and night and the fixed order of heaven and earth,

26 then I will reject the offspring of Jacob and David my servant and will not choose one of his offspring to rule over the offspring of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will restore their fortunes and will have mercy on them."

2 Thus ^H3541 saith ^H559 ^VQQ3MS the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS the maker ^H6213 thereof , the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS that formed ^H3335 it , to establish ^H3559 it ; the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS is his name ^H8034 ^CMS-3MS ;

3 Call ^H7121 ^VQI2MP unto ^H413 ^PREP-1MS me , and I will answer ^H6030 thee , and show ^H5046 thee great ^H1419 and mighty ^H1219 things , which thou knowest ^H3045 not ^H3808 ^NADV .

4 For ^H3588 ^CONJ thus ^H3541 saith ^H559 ^VQQ3MS the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS , the God ^H430 ^CDP of Israel ^H3478 , concerning ^H5921 ^PREP the houses ^H1004 of this ^H2063 ^D-DFS city ^H5892 ^D-GFS , and concerning ^H5921 ^PREP the houses ^H1004 of the kings ^H4428 ^CMP of Judah ^H3063 , which are thrown down ^H5422 by ^H413 ^PREP the mounts ^H5550 , and by ^H413 ^PREP the sword ^H2719 ;

5 They come ^H935 to fight ^H3898 with ^H854 ^PREP the Chaldeans ^H3778 , but it is to fill ^H4390 them with ^H854 ^PREP the dead bodies ^H6297 of men ^H120 ^D-NMS , whom ^H834 ^RPRO I have slain ^H5221 in mine anger ^H639 and in my fury ^H2534 , and for ^H5921 ^PREP all ^H3605 ^NMS whose ^H834 ^RPRO wickedness ^H7451 I have hid ^H5641 my face ^H6440 ^CMP-1MS from this ^H2063 ^D-DFS city ^H5892 .

6 Behold ^H2009 , I will bring ^H4608 it health ^H724 and cure ^H4832 , and I will cure ^H7495 them , and will reveal ^H1540 unto them the abundance ^H6283 of peace ^H7965 ^NMS and truth ^H571 .

7 And I will cause the captivity ^H7622 of Judah ^H3063 and the captivity ^H7622 of Israel ^H3478 to return ^H7725 , and will build ^H1129 them , as at the first ^H7223 .

8 And I will cleanse ^H2891 them from all ^H3605 ^M-CMS their iniquity ^H5771 , whereby ^H834 ^RPRO they have sinned ^H2398 ^VQQ3MP against me ; and I will pardon ^H5545 all ^H3605 their iniquities ^H5771 , whereby ^H834 ^RPRO they have sinned ^H2398 ^VQQ3MP , and whereby ^H834 ^RPRO they have transgressed ^H6586 against me .

9 And it shall be ^H1961 ^W-VQQ3FS to me a name ^H8034 of joy ^H8342 , a praise ^H8416 and an honor ^H8597 before all ^H3605 ^NMS the nations ^H1471 of the earth ^H776 ^D-GFS , which ^H834 ^RPRO shall hear ^H8085 ^VQY3MP all ^H3605 ^NMS the good ^H2896 that ^H834 ^RPRO I ^H595 ^PPRO-1MS do unto ^H6213 ^VQPMS them : and they shall fear ^H6342 and tremble ^H7264 for ^H5921 ^PREP all ^H3605 ^NMS the goodness ^H2896 and for ^H5921 ^PREP all ^H3605 ^NMS the prosperity ^H7965 that ^H834 ^RPRO I ^H595 ^PPRO-1MS procure ^H6213 ^VQPMS unto it .

10 Thus ^H3541 saith ^H559 ^VQQ3MS the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS ; Again ^H5750 ^ADV there shall be heard ^H8085 in this ^H2088 ^D-PMS place ^H4725 , which ^H834 ^RPRO ye ^H859 ^PPRO-2MS say ^H559 shall be desolate ^H2720 without ^H369 man ^H120 ^NMS and without ^H369 beast ^H929 ^NFS , even in the cities ^H5892 ^B-CFP of Judah ^H3063 , and in the streets ^H2351 of Jerusalem ^H3389 , that are desolate ^H8074 , without ^H369 man ^H120 ^NMS , and without ^H369 inhabitant ^H3427 ^VQPMS , and without ^H369 beast ^H929 ,

11 The voice ^H6963 ^CMS of joy ^H8342 , and the voice ^H6963 ^W-CMS of gladness ^H8057 , the voice ^H6963 ^CMS of the bridegroom ^H2860 , and the voice ^H6963 ^W-CMS of the bride ^H3618 , the voice ^H6963 ^CMS of them that shall say ^H559 , Praise ^H3034 the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS of hosts ^H6635 : for ^H3588 ^CONJ the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS is good ^H2896 ^AMS ; for ^H3588 ^CONJ his mercy ^H2617 endureth forever ^H5769 ^L-NMS : and of them that shall bring ^H935 the sacrifice of praise ^H8426 ^NFS into the house ^H1004 ^CMS of the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS . For ^H3588 ^CONJ I will cause to return ^H7725 the captivity ^H7622 of the land ^H776 ^D-GFS , as at the first ^H7223 , saith ^H559 ^VQQ3MS the LORD ^H3068 ^NAME-4MS .

12 Thus ^H3541 saith ^H559 ^VQQ3MS the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS of hosts ^H6635 ; Again ^H5750 ^ADV in this ^H2088 ^D-PMS place ^H4725 , which is desolate ^H2720 without ^H369 man ^H120 ^NMS and without ^H5704 ^W-PREP beast ^H929 ^NFS , and in all ^H3605 ^WB-CMS the cities ^H5892 thereof , shall be ^H1961 ^VQY3MS a habitation ^H5116 of shepherds ^H7462 causing their flocks ^H6629 to lie down ^H7257 .

13 In the cities ^H5892 ^B-CFP of the mountains ^H2022 , in the cities ^H5892 ^B-CFP of the vale ^H8219 , and in the cities ^H5892 of the south ^H5045 ^D-NMS , and in the land ^H776 of Benjamin ^H1144 , and in the places about ^H5439 Jerusalem ^H3389 , and in the cities ^H5892 of Judah ^H3063 , shall the flocks ^H6629 pass ^H5674 again ^H5750 ^ADV under ^H5921 ^PREP the hands ^H3027 ^CFD of him that telleth ^H4487 them , saith ^H559 ^VQQ3MS the LORD ^H3068 ^NAME-4MS .

14 Behold ^H2009 ^IJEC , the days ^H3117 ^NMP come ^H935 , saith ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS , that I will perform ^H6965 that good ^H2896 ^D-NMS thing ^H1697 ^D-NMS which ^H834 ^RPRO I have promised ^H1696 ^VPQ1MS unto ^H413 ^PREP the house ^H1004 ^CMS of Israel ^H3478 and to ^H5704 the house ^H1004 ^CMS of Judah ^H3063 .

15 In those ^H1992 ^D-PPRO-3MP days ^H3117 ^BD-NMP , and at that ^H1931 time ^H6256 , will I cause the Branch ^H6780 of righteousness ^H6666 ^NFS to grow up ^H6779 unto David ^H1732 ^L-NAME ; and he shall execute ^H6213 ^W-VQQ3MS judgment ^H4941 ^NMS and righteousness ^H6666 in the land ^H776 ^B-GFS .

16 In those ^H1992 ^D-PPRO-3MP days ^H3117 ^BD-NMP shall Judah ^H3063 be saved ^H3467 , and Jerusalem ^H3389 shall dwell ^H7931 ^VQY3FS safely ^H983 ^L-NMS : and this ^H2088 ^W-PMS is the name wherewith ^H834 ^RPRO she shall be called ^H7121 ^VQY3MS , The LORD ^H3068 ^EDS our righteousness ^H6664 .

17 For ^H3588 ^CONJ thus ^H3541 saith ^H559 ^VQQ3MS the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS ; David ^H1732 ^L-NAME shall never ^H3808 ^ADV want ^H3772 ^VNI3MS a man ^H376 ^NMS to sit ^H3427 ^VQPMS upon ^H5921 ^PREP the throne ^H3678 of the house ^H1004 of Israel ^H3478 ^LMS ;

18 Neither ^H3808 ^ADV shall the priests ^H3548 the Levites ^H3881 want ^H3772 ^VNI3MS a man ^H376 ^NMS before ^H6440 me to offer ^H5927 burnt offerings ^H5930 ^NFS , and to kindle ^H6999 meat offerings ^H4503 ^NFS , and to do ^H6213 sacrifice ^H2077 continually ^H3605 ^NMS .

19 And the word ^H1697 ^CMS of the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS came ^H1961 ^W-VPY3MS unto ^H413 ^PREP Jeremiah ^H3414 , saying ^H559 ,

20 Thus ^H3541 saith ^H559 ^VQQ3MS the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS ; If ^H518 ^PART ye can break ^H6565 my covenant ^H1285 ^B-CFS-1MS of the day ^H3117 ^D-AMS , and my covenant ^H1285 ^B-CFS-1MS of the night ^H3915 ^AMS , and that there should not ^H1115 be ^H1961 ^VQFC day ^H3119 and night ^H3915 ^W-NMS in their season ^H6256 ;

21 Then may also ^H1571 ^CONJ my covenant ^H1285 ^B-CFS-1MS be broken ^H6565 with ^H854 ^PREP David ^H1732 ^MMS my servant ^H5650 ^CMS-1MS , that he should not have a son ^H1121 to reign ^H4427 upon ^H5921 ^PREP his throne ^H3678 ; and with ^H854 ^W-PART the Levites ^H3881 the priests ^H3548 , my ministers ^H8334 .

22 As ^H834 ^RPRO the host ^H6635 of heaven ^H8064 ^D-NMD cannot ^H3808 ^ADV be numbered ^H5608 , neither ^H3808 ^W-NADV the sand ^H2344 of the sea ^H3220 ^D-NMS measured ^H4058 : so ^H3651 ^ADV will I multiply ^H7235 ^VHY1MS the seed ^H2233 ^NMS of David ^H1732 ^MMS my servant ^H5650 ^CMS-1MS , and the Levites ^H3881 that minister unto ^H8334 me .

23 Moreover the word ^H1697 ^CMS of the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS came ^H1961 ^W-VPY3MS to ^H413 ^PREP Jeremiah ^H3414 , saying ^H559 ^L-VQFC ,

24 Considerest ^H7200 ^VQQ2MS thou not ^H3808 ^D-NPAR what ^H4100 ^IGAT this ^H2088 ^D-PMS people ^H5971 have spoken ^H1696 , saying ^H559 ^L-VQFC , The two ^H8147 ^ONUM families ^H4940 which ^H834 ^RPRO the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS hath chosen ^H977 , he hath even cast them off ^H3988 ? thus they have despised ^H5006 my people ^H5971 , that they should be no ^H1961 more ^H5750 ^ADV a nation ^H1471 ^NMS before ^H6440 them .

25 Thus ^H3541 saith ^H559 ^VQQ3MS the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS ; If ^H518 ^PART my covenant ^H1285 be not ^H3808 ^NADV with day ^H3119 ^ADV and night ^H3915 , and if I have not ^H3808 ^NADV appointed ^H7760 the ordinances ^H2708 ^CFP of heaven ^H8064 ^NMP and earth ^H776 ;

26 Then ^H1571 ^CONJ will I cast away ^H3988 ^VQY1MS the seed ^H2233 ^NMS of Jacob ^H3290 , and David ^H1732 my servant ^H5650 ^CMS-1MS , so that I will not take ^H3947 any of his seed ^H2233 to be rulers ^H4910 over ^H413 ^PREP the seed ^H2233 ^NMS of Abraham ^H85 , Isaac ^H3446 , and Jacob ^H3290 : for ^H3588 ^CONJ I will cause their captivity ^H7622 to return ^H7725 , and have mercy ^H7355 on them .
