1 उन दिनों में पलिश्तियों ने इस्राएल से लड़ने के लिये अपनी सेना इकट्ठी की। और आकीश ने दाऊद से कहा, निश्चय जान कि तुझे अपने जनों समेत मेरे साथ सेना में जाना होगा।
2 दाऊद ने आकीश से कहा, इस कारण तू जान लेगा कि तेरा दास क्या करेगा। आकीश ने दाऊद से कहा, इस कारण मैं तुझे अपने सिर का रक्षक सदा के लिये ठहराऊंगा॥
3 शमूएल तो मर गया था, और समस्त इस्राएलियों ने उसके विषय छाती पीटी, और उसको उसके नगर रामा में मिट्टी दी थी। और शाऊल ने ओझों और भूतसिद्धि करने वालों को देश से निकाल दिया था॥
4 जब पलिश्ती इकट्ठे हुए और शूनेम में छावनी डाली, तो शाऊल ने सब इस्राएलियों को इकट्ठा किया, और उन्होंने गिलबो में छावनी डाली।
5 पलिश्तियों की सेना को देखकर शाऊल डर गया, और उसका मन अत्यन्त भयभीत हो कांप उठा।
6 और जब शाऊल ने यहोवा से पूछा, तब यहोवा ने न तो स्वप्न के द्वारा उस उत्तर दिया, और न ऊरीम के द्वारा, और न भविष्यद्वक्ताओं के द्वारा।
7 तब शाऊल ने अपने कर्मचारियों से कहा, मेरे लिये किसी भूतसिद्धि करने वाली को ढूंढो, कि मैं उसके पास जा कर उस से पूछूं। उसके कर्मचारियों ने उस से कहा, एन्दोर में एक भूतसिद्धि करने वाली रहती है।
8 तब शाऊल ने अपना भेष बदला, और दूसरे कपड़े पहिनकर, दो मनुष्य संग ले कर, रातोंरात चलकर उस स्त्री के पास गया; और कहा, अपने सिद्धि भूत से मेरे लिये भावी कहलवा, और जिसका नाम मैं लूंगा उसे बुलवा दे।
9 स्त्री ने उस से कहा, तू जानता है कि शाऊल ने क्या किया है, कि उसने ओझों और भूतसिद्धि करने वालों को देश से नाश किया है। फिर तू मेरे प्राण के लिये क्यों फंदा लगाता है कि मुझे मरवा डाले।
10 शाऊल ने यहोवा की शपथ खाकर उस से कहा, यहोवा के जीवन की शपथ, इस बात के कारण तुझे दण्ड न मिलेगा।
11 स्त्री ने पूछा, मैं तेरे लिये किस को बुलाऊ? उसने कहा, शमूएल को मेरे लिये बुला।
12 जब स्त्री ने शमूएल को देखा, तब ऊंचे शब्द से चिल्लाई; और शाऊल से कहा, तू ने मुझे क्यों धोखा दिया? तू तो शाऊल है।
13 राजा ने उससे कहा, मत डर; तुझे क्या देख पड़ता है? स्त्री ने शाऊल से कहा, मुझे एक देवता पृथ्वी में से चढ़ता हुआ दिखाई पड़ता है।
14 उसने उस से पूछा उस का कैसा रूप है? उसने कहा, एक बूढ़ा पुरूष बागा ओढ़े हुए चढ़ा आता है। तब शाऊल ने निश्चय जानकर कि वह शमूएल है, औंधे मुंह भूमि पर गिर के दण्डवत किया।
15 शमूएल ने शाऊल से पूछा, तू ने मुझे ऊपर बुलवाकर क्यों सताया है? शाऊल ने कहा, मैं बड़े संकट में पड़ा हूं; क्योंकि पलिश्ती मेरे साथ लड़ रहे हैं और परमेश्वर ने मुझे छोड़ दिया, और अब मुझे न तो भविष्यद्वक्ताओं के द्वारा उत्तर देता है, और न स्वपनों के; इसलिये मैं ने तुझे बुलाया कि तू मुझे जता दे कि मैं क्या करूं।
16 शमूएल ने कहा, जब यहोवा तुझे छोड़कर तेरा शत्रु बन गया, तब तू मुझ से क्यों पूछता है?
17 यहोवा ने तो जैसे मुझ से कहलावाया था वैसा ही उसने व्यवहार किया है; अर्थात उसने तेरे हाथ से राज्य छीनकर तेरे पड़ोसी दाऊद को दे दिया है।
18 तू ने जो यहोवा की बात न मानी, और न अमालेकियों को उसके भड़के हुए कोप के अनुसार दण्ड दिया था, इस कारण यहोवा ने तुझ से आज ऐसा बर्ताव किया।
19 फिर यहोवा तुझ समेत इस्राएलियों को पलिश्तियों के हाथ में कर देगा; और तू अपने बेटों समेत कल मेरे साथ होगा; और इस्राएली सेना को भी यहोवा पलिश्तियों के हाथ में कर देगा।
20 तब शाऊल तुरन्त मुंह के बल भूमि पर गिर पड़ा, और शमूएल की बातों के कारण अत्यन्त डर गया; उसने पूरे दिन और रात भोजन न किया था, इस से उस में बल कुछ भी न रहा।
21 तब वह स्त्री शाऊल के पास गई, और उसको अति व्याकुल देखकर उस से कहा, सुन, तेरी दासी ने तो तेरी बात मानी; और मैं ने अपने प्राण पर खेलकर तेरे वचनों को सुन लिया जो तू ने मुझ से कहा।
22 तो अब तू भी अपनी दासी की बात मान; और मैं तेरे साम्हने एक टुकड़ा रोटी रखूं; तू उसे खा, कि जब तू अपना मार्ग ले तब तुझे बल आ जाए।
23 उसने इनकार करके कहा, मैं न खाऊंगा। परन्तु उसके सेवकों और स्त्री ने मिलकर यहां तक उसे दबाया कि वह उनकी बात मानकर, भूमि पर से उठ कर खाट पर बैठ गया।
24 स्त्री के घर में तो एक तैयार किया हुआ बछड़ा था, उसने फुर्ती करके उसे मारा, फिर आटा ले कर गूंधा, और अखमीरी रोटी बनाकर
25 शाऊल और उसके सेवकों के आगे लाई; और उन्होंने खाया। तब वे उठ कर उसी रात चले गए॥

And Achish H397 said H559 W-VQY3MS to H413 PREP David H1732 MMS , Therefore H3651 L-ADV will I make H7760 thee keeper H8104 of mine head H7218 forever H3117 D-NMP .
3 Now Samuel H8050 was dead H4191 , and all H3605 NMS Israel H3478 had lamented H5594 him , and buried H6912 him in Ramah H7414 , even in his own city H5892 . And Saul H7586 had put away H5493 VHQ3MS those that had familiar spirits H178 , and the wizards H3049 , out of the land H776 .
4 And the Philistines H6430 gathered themselves together H6908 , and came H935 W-VQY3MP and pitched H2583 W-VQY3MP in Shunem H7766 : and Saul H7586 gathered all Israel together H6908 , and they pitched H2583 in Gilboa H1533 .
5 And when Saul H7586 saw H7200 W-VIY3MS the host H4264 of the Philistines H6430 , he was afraid H3372 , and his heart H3820 CMS-3MS greatly H3966 ADV trembled H2729 .

7 Then said H559 W-VQY3MS Saul H7586 unto his servants H5650 , Seek H1245 me a woman H802 CFS that hath H1172 a familiar spirit H178 , that I may go H1980 to H413 PREP-3FS her , and inquire H1875 of her . And his servants H5650 said H559 W-VQY3MS to H413 PREP-3MS him , Behold H2009 IJEC , there is a woman H802 CFS that hath H1172 a familiar spirit H178 at Endor H5874 .

10 And Saul H7586 swore H7650 to her by the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS , saying H559 L-VQFC , As the LORD H3068 EDS liveth H2416 AMS , there shall no H518 PART punishment H5771 NMS happen H7136 to thee for this H2088 D-PMS thing H1697 .
11 Then said H559 W-VQY3MS the woman H802 D-NFS , Whom H4130 shall I bring up H5927 unto thee ? And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Bring me up H5927 Samuel H8050 .
12 And when the woman H802 D-NFS saw H7200 W-VQQ3FS Samuel H8050 , she cried H2199 with a loud H1419 AMS voice H6963 B-NMS : and the woman H802 D-NFS spoke H559 W-VQY3FS to H413 PREP Saul H7586 , saying H559 L-VQFC , Why H4100 L-IPRO hast thou deceived H7411 me ? for thou H859 W-PPRO-2MS art Saul H7586 .
13 And the king H4428 D-NMS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto her , Be not H408 NPAR afraid H3372 : for H3588 CONJ what H4100 IGAT sawest H7200 thou ? 14 And he said H559 W-VQY3MS unto her , What H4100 IGAT form H8389 is he of ? 16 Then said H559 W-VQY3MS Samuel H8050 , Wherefore H4100 WL-IGAT then dost thou ask H7592 of me , seeing the LORD H3068 W-EDS is departed H5493 from thee , and is become H1961 W-VQY3MS thine enemy H6145 ?
17 And the LORD H3068 EDS hath done H6213 W-VQY3MS to him , as H834 K-RPRO he spoke H1696 VPQ3MS by H3027 B-CFS-1MS me : for the LORD H3068 EDS hath rent H7167 W-VQY3MS the kingdom H4467 out of thine hand H3027 , and given H5414 it to thy neighbor H7453 , even to David H1732 :
18 Because H834 K-RPRO thou obeyedst H8085 VQQ2MS not H3808 ADV the voice H6963 B-NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , nor H3808 ADV executedst H6213 VQQ2MS his fierce H2740 CMS wrath H639 CMS-3MS upon Amalek H6002 , therefore H3651 ADV hath the LORD H3068 EDS done H6213 VQQ3MS this H2088 D-PMS thing H1697 D-NMS unto thee this H2088 D-PMS day H3117 D-AMS .
19 Moreover H1571 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS will also deliver H5414 Israel H3478 with H5973 PREP-2MS thee into the hand H3027 B-CFS of the Philistines H6430 TMS : and tomorrow H4279 shalt thou H859 PPRO-2MS and thy sons H1121 W-CMP-2MS be with H5973 me : the LORD H3068 EDS also H1571 CONJ shall deliver H5414 VHFA the host H4264 of Israel H3478 into the hand H3027 B-CFS of the Philistines H6430 .
20 Then Saul H7586 fell H5307 W-VQY3MS straightway H4116 all along H4393 on the earth H776 NFS-3FS , and was sore H3966 ADV afraid H3372 , because of the words H1697 of Samuel H8050 : and H1571 CONJ there was H1961 VQQ3MS no H3808 NADV strength H3581 CMS in him ; for H3588 CONJ he had eaten H398 VQQ3MS no H3808 NADV bread H3899 NMS all H3605 NMS the day H3117 D-AMS , nor all H3605 NMS the night H3915 .

23 But he refused H3985 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , I will not H3808 NADV eat H398 . But his servants H5650 , together with H1571 W-CONJ the woman H802 D-NFS , compelled H6555 him ; and he hearkened H8085 unto their voice H6963 . So he arose H6965 W-VQY3MS from the earth H776 , and sat H3427 W-VQY3MS upon H413 PREP the bed H4296 .
24 And the woman H802 had a fat H4770 calf H5695 in the house H1004 ; and she hasted H4116 , and killed H2076 it , and took H3947 W-VQY3FS flour H7058 , and kneaded H3888 it , and did bake H644 unleavened bread H4682 thereof :
