Genesis 3:5 (KJV) King James Version

1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.

11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

23 Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubim, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

And he said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS unto ^H413 ^PREP the woman ^H802 ^D-NFS , Yea ^H637 ^CONJ , hath God ^H430 ^EDP said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , Ye shall not ^H3808 ^NADV eat ^H398 ^VQY2MP of every ^H3605 ^M-CMS tree ^H6086 ^NMS of the garden ^H1588 ^D-NMS ?

2 And the woman ^H802 ^D-NFS said ^H559 ^W-VQY3FS unto ^H413 ^PREP the serpent ^H5175 ^D-NMS , We may eat ^H398 ^VQY1MP of the fruit ^H6529 ^M-CMS of the trees ^H6086 ^NMS of the garden ^H1588 ^D-NMS :

3 But of the fruit ^H6529 ^WM-CMS of the tree ^H6086 ^AMS which ^H834 ^RPRO is in the midst ^H8432 ^B-NMS of the garden ^H1588 ^D-NMS , God ^H430 ^EDP hath said ^H559 ^VQQ3MS , Ye shall not ^H3808 ^NADV eat ^H398 ^VQY2MP of ^H4480 ^M-PREP-3MS it , neither ^H3808 ^W-NADV shall ye touch ^H5060 ^VQY2MP it , lest ^H6435 ^CONJ ye die ^H4191 ^VUY1MP-3FP .

4 And the serpent ^H5175 ^D-NMS said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS unto ^H413 ^PREP the woman ^H802 ^D-NFS , Ye shall not ^H3808 ^ADV surely die ^H4191 ^VQFA :

5 For ^H3588 ^CONJ God ^H430 ^EDP doth know ^H3045 ^VQPMS that ^H3588 ^CONJ in the day ^H3117 ^B-NMS ye eat ^H398 ^VQFC-2MP thereof ^H4480 ^M-PREP-3MS , then your eyes ^H5869 ^CMP-2MP shall be opened ^H6491 ^W-VNQ3MP , and ye shall be ^H1961 ^W-VQQ2MP as gods ^H430 ^NAME-4MP , knowing ^H3045 ^VQPMS good ^H2896 ^AMS and evil ^H7451 ^W-AMS .

6 And when the woman ^H802 ^D-NFS saw ^H7200 ^W-VQQ3FS that ^H3588 ^CONJ the tree ^H6086 ^AMS was good ^H2896 ^AMS for food ^H3978 ^L-NMS , and that ^H3588 ^CONJ it ^H1931 ^PPRO-3MS was pleasant ^H8378 ^VQY3FS to the eyes ^H5869 ^L-GFD , and a tree ^H6086 ^AMS to be desired ^H2530 ^W-VNPMS to make one wise ^H7919 ^L-VHFC , she took ^H3947 ^W-VQY3FS of the fruit ^H6529 ^M-CMS-3MS thereof , and did eat ^H398 ^W-VQY3FS , and gave ^H5414 ^W-VQY3FS also ^H1571 ^CONJ unto her husband ^H376 with ^H5973 ^PREP-3FS her ; and he did eat ^H398 ^W-VQY3MS .

7 And the eyes ^H5869 ^CMD of them both ^H8147 ^ONUM-3MP were opened ^H6491 ^W-VNY2FP , and they knew ^H3045 ^W-VQY3MP that ^H3588 ^CONJ they ^H1992 ^PPRO-3MP were naked ^H5903 ^AMP ; and they sewed ^H8609 ^W-VQY3MP fig ^H8384 ^NFS leaves ^H5929 ^CMS together , and made ^H6213 ^W-VQY3MP themselves aprons ^H2290 ^CFS .

8 And they heard ^H8085 ^W-VQY3MP the voice ^H6963 ^CMS of the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS God ^H430 ^EDP walking ^H1980 ^VTPMS in the garden ^H1588 ^B-NMS in the cool ^H7307 ^L-CMS of the day ^H3117 ^D-AMS : and Adam ^H121 and his wife ^H802 ^W-CFS-3MS hid themselves ^H2244 ^W-VTY3MS from the presence ^H6440 ^M-CMP of the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS God ^H430 ^EDP amongst ^H8432 ^B-NMS the trees ^H6086 ^NMS of the garden ^H1588 ^D-NMS .

9 And the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS God ^H430 ^EDP called ^H7121 ^W-VQY3MS unto ^H413 ^PREP Adam ^H121 , and said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS unto him , Where ^H335 ^IPRO-2MS art thou ?

10 And he said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , I heard ^H8085 ^VQQ1MS thy voice ^H6963 ^CMS-2MS in the garden ^H1588 ^B-NMS , and I was afraid ^H3372 ^W-VQY1MS , because ^H3588 ^CONJ I ^H595 ^PPRO-1MS was naked ^H5903 ^AMS ; and I hid myself ^H2244 ^W-VNY1MS .

11 And he said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , Who ^H4310 ^IPRO told ^H5046 ^VHQ3MS thee that ^H3588 ^CONJ thou ^H859 ^PPRO-2MS wast naked ^H5903 ^AMS ? Hast thou eaten ^H398 ^VQFC of ^H4480 ^I-PREP the tree ^H6086 ^AMS , whereof ^H834 ^RPRO I commanded ^H6680 ^VPQ1MS-2MS thee that thou shouldest not ^H1115 ^L-NPAR eat ^H398 ^VQQ2MS ?

12 And the man ^H120 ^D-NMS said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , The woman ^H802 ^D-NFS whom ^H834 ^RPRO thou gavest ^H5414 ^VQQ2MS-2FS to be with ^H5973 me , she ^H1931 ^PPRO-3FS gave ^H5414 ^VQQ3FS me of ^H4480 ^PREP the tree ^H6086 ^AMS , and I did eat ^H398 ^W-VQY1MS .

13 And the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS God ^H430 ^EDP said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS unto the woman ^H802 ^L-NFS , What ^H4100 ^IPRO is this ^H2063 ^DPRO-3FS that thou hast done ^H6213 ^VQPFS ? And the woman ^H802 ^D-NFS said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , The serpent ^H5175 ^D-NMS beguiled ^H5377 ^VHQ3MS-1MS me , and I did eat ^H398 ^W-VQY1MS .

14 And the LORD ^H3068 ^NAME-4MS God ^H430 ^EDP said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS unto ^H413 ^PREP the serpent ^H5175 ^D-NMS , Because ^H3588 ^CONJ thou hast done ^H6213 ^VQQ2MS this ^H2063 ^DPRO-3FS , thou ^H859 ^PPRO-2MS art cursed ^H779 ^VWQ3MS above all ^H3605 ^NMS cattle ^H929 ^D-NFS , and above every ^H3605 ^NMS beast ^H2416 ^CFS of the field ^H7704 ^D-NMS ; upon ^H5921 ^PREP thy belly ^H1512 ^CMS-2MS shalt thou go ^H1980 ^VQY2MS , and dust ^H6083 ^W-NMS shalt thou eat ^H398 ^VQY2MS all ^H3605 ^NMS the days ^H3117 ^CMP of thy life ^H2416 ^CMS-2MS :

15 And I will put ^H7896 ^VQY1MS enmity ^H342 ^W-NFS between ^H996 ^W-PREP thee and the woman ^H802 ^D-NFS , and between ^H996 ^W-PREP thy seed ^H2233 ^CMS-2MS and her seed ^H2233 ^CMS-3FS ; it ^H1931 ^PPRO-3MS shall bruise ^H7779 ^VQY3MS-2MS thy head ^H7218 ^NMS , and thou ^H859 ^W-PPRO-2MS shalt bruise ^H7779 ^VQY2MS-3MS his heel ^H6119 ^NMS .

16 Unto ^H413 ^PREP the woman ^H802 ^D-NFS he said ^H559 ^VQQ3MS , I will greatly ^H7235 ^VHFA multiply ^H7235 ^VHY1MS thy sorrow ^H6093 ^NMS-2FS and thy conception ^H2032 ^W-CMS-2FS ; in sorrow ^H6089 ^B-NMS thou shalt bring forth ^H3205 ^VQY2FS children ^H1121 ^NMP ; and thy desire ^H8669 ^CFS-2FS shall be to ^H413 ^W-PREP thy husband ^H376 ^CMS-2FS , and he ^H1931 ^W-PPRO-3MS shall rule ^H4910 ^VQY3MS over thee .

17 And unto Adam ^H121 ^WL-NMS he said ^H559 ^VQQ3MS , Because ^H3588 ^CONJ thou hast hearkened ^H8085 ^VQQ2MS unto the voice ^H6963 ^L-CMS of thy wife ^H802 ^CFS-2MS , and hast eaten ^H398 ^W-VQY3FS of ^H4480 ^PREP the tree ^H6086 ^AMS , of which ^H834 ^RPRO I commanded ^H6680 ^VPQ1MS-2MS thee , saying ^H559 ^L-VQFC , Thou shalt not ^H3808 ^NADV eat ^H398 ^VQY2MS of ^H4480 ^PREP it : cursed ^H779 ^VWQ3FS is the ground ^H127 ^D-NFS for thy sake ^H5668 ^B-CMS-2MS ; in sorrow ^H6093 ^B-NMS shalt thou eat ^H398 ^VQY2MS-3FS of it all ^H3605 ^NMS the days ^H3117 ^CMP of thy life ^H2416 ^CMS-2MS ;

18 Thorns ^H6975 ^W-NMS also and thistles ^H1863 ^W-NMS shall it bring forth ^H6779 ^VHY3FS to thee ; and thou shalt eat ^H398 ^W-VQQ2MS the herb ^H6212 ^NMS of the field ^H7704 ^D-NMS ;

19 In the sweat ^H2188 ^B-CFS of thy face ^H639 ^CMD-2MS shalt thou eat ^H398 ^VQY2MS bread ^H3899 ^NMS , till ^H5704 ^PREP thou return ^H7725 ^VQFC-2MS unto ^H413 ^PREP the ground ^H127 ^D-NFS ; for ^H3588 ^CONJ out of ^H4480 ^M-PREP-3FS it wast thou taken ^H3947 ^VWQ2MS : for ^H3588 ^CONJ dust ^H6083 ^NMS thou ^H859 ^PPRO-2MS art , and unto ^H413 ^PREP dust ^H6083 ^NMS shalt thou return ^H7725 ^VQY2MS .

20 And Adam ^H121 called ^H7121 ^W-VQY3MS his wife ^H802 ^CFS-3MS \'s name ^H8034 ^CMS Eve ^H2332 ^NAME-3FS ; because ^H3588 ^CONJ she ^H1931 ^PPRO-3FS was ^H1961 ^VQP3FS the mother ^H517 ^GFS of all ^H3605 ^NMS living ^H2416 ^AMS .

21 Unto Adam ^H121 also and to his wife ^H802 ^WL-CFS-3MS did the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS God ^H430 ^EDP make ^H6213 ^W-VQY3MS coats ^H3801 ^CFP of skins ^H5785 ^NMS , and clothed ^H3847 ^W-VHY3MS-3MP them .

22 And the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS God ^H430 ^EDP said ^H559 ^W-VQY3MS , Behold ^H2005 ^IJEC , the man ^H120 ^D-NMS is become ^H1961 ^VQQ3MS as one ^H259 ^K-NMS of ^H4480 ^M-PREP-3MS us , to know ^H3045 ^L-VQFC good ^H2896 ^AMS and evil ^H7451 ^W-AMS : and now ^H6258 ^W-ADV , lest ^H6435 ^CONJ he put forth ^H7971 ^VQY3MS his hand ^H3027 ^CFS-3MS , and take ^H3947 ^W-VQQ3MS also ^H1571 ^CONJ of the tree ^H6086 ^M-CMS of life ^H2416 ^D-NMP , and eat ^H398 ^W-VQQ3MS , and live ^H2425 ^W-VQQ3MS forever ^H5769 ^L-NMS :

23 Therefore the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS God ^H430 ^EDP sent him forth ^H7971 ^W-VPY3MS-3MS from the garden ^H1588 ^M-CMS of Eden ^H5731 ^GFS , to till ^H5647 ^L-VQFC the ground ^H127 ^D-NFS from whence ^H8033 ^M-ADV he was taken ^H3947 ^VUQ3MS .

24 So he drove out ^H1644 ^W-VPQ3MS the man ^H120 ^D-NMS ; and he placed ^H7931 ^W-VHY3MS at the east ^H6924 ^M-NMS of the garden ^H1588 ^L-CMS of Eden ^H5731 ^GFS Cherubims ^H3742 ^D-NMP , and a flaming ^H3858 ^CMS sword ^H2719 ^D-GFS which turned every way ^H2015 ^D-VTPFS , to keep ^H8104 ^L-VQFC the way ^H1870 ^NMS of the tree ^H6086 ^NMS of life ^H2416 ^D-NMP .
