Jeremiah 25:7 (KJV) King James Version

1 The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that was the first year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon;

2 The which Jeremiah the prophet spake unto all the people of Judah, and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying,

3 From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, even unto this day, that is the three and twentieth year, the word of the LORD hath come unto me, and I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking; but ye have not hearkened.

4 And the LORD hath sent unto you all his servants the prophets, rising early and sending them; but ye have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear.

5 They said, Turn ye again now every one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD hath given unto you and to your fathers for ever and ever:

6 And go not after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and provoke me not to anger with the works of your hands; and I will do you no hurt.

7 Yet ye have not hearkened unto me, saith the LORD; that ye might provoke me to anger with the works of your hands to your own hurt.

8 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Because ye have not heard my words,

9 Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith the LORD, and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and an hissing, and perpetual desolations.

10 Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the candle.

11 And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

12 And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the LORD, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.

13 And I will bring upon that land all my words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah hath prophesied against all the nations.

14 For many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of them also: and I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of their own hands.

15 For thus saith the LORD God of Israel unto me; Take the wine cup of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it.

16 And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them.

17 Then took I the cup at the LORD’S hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the LORD had sent me:

18 To wit, Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, an hissing, and a curse; as it is this day;

19 Pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people;

20 And all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod,

21 Edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon,

22 And all the kings of Tyrus, and all the kings of Zidon, and the kings of the isles which are beyond the sea,

23 Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that are in the utmost corners,

24 And all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the desert,

25 And all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes,

26 And all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth: and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them.

27 Therefore thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Drink ye, and be drunken, and spue, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.

28 And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at thine hand to drink, then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Ye shall certainly drink.

29 For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by my name, and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished: for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith the LORD of hosts.

30 Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, The LORD shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he shall mightily roar upon his habitation; he shall give a shout, as they that tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth.

31 A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the LORD hath a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the LORD.

32 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.

33 And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground.

34 Howl, ye shepherds, and cry; and wallow yourselves in the ashes, ye principal of the flock: for the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions are accomplished; and ye shall fall like a pleasant vessel.

35 And the shepherds shall have no way to flee, nor the principal of the flock to escape.

36 A voice of the cry of the shepherds, and an howling of the principal of the flock, shall be heard: for the LORD hath spoiled their pasture.

37 And the peaceable habitations are cut down because of the fierce anger of the LORD.

38 He hath forsaken his covert, as the lion: for their land is desolate because of the fierceness of the oppressor, and because of his fierce anger.

3 From ^H4480 ^PREP the thirteenth ^H7969 ^BFS year ^H8141 ^NFS of Josiah ^H2977 the son ^H1121 ^CMS of Amon ^H526 king ^H4428 ^NMS of Judah ^H3063 , even unto ^H5704 ^W-PREP this ^H2088 ^D-PMS day ^H3117 ^D-AMS , that ^H2088 ^DPRO is the three ^H7969 ^MFS and twentieth ^H6242 ^W-MMP year ^H8141 ^NFS , the word ^H1697 ^NMS of the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS hath come ^H1961 ^VQQ3MS unto ^H413 me , and I have spoken ^H1696 unto ^H413 you , rising early ^H7925 and speaking ^H1696 ; but ye have not ^H3808 ^W-NPAR hearkened ^H8085 .

4 And the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS hath sent ^H7971 unto ^H413 you all ^H3605 ^NMS his servants ^H5650 the prophets ^H5030 , rising early ^H7925 and sending ^H7971 them ; but ye have not ^H3808 ^W-NPAR hearkened ^H8085 , nor ^H3808 ^W-NPAR inclined ^H5186 your ear ^H241 to hear ^H8085 .

5 They said ^H559 ^L-VQFC , Turn ye again ^H7725 now ^H4994 ^IJEC every one ^H376 ^NMS from his evil ^H7451 ^D-AFS way ^H1870 ^M-CMS-3MS , and from the evil ^H7455 of your doings ^H4611 , and dwell ^H3427 in ^H5921 ^PREP the land ^H127 ^D-NFS that ^H834 ^RPRO the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS hath given ^H5414 ^VQQ3MS unto you and to your fathers ^H1 forever ^H5769 ^NMS and ever ^H5704 ^W-PREP :

6 And go ^H1980 not ^H408 ^W-NPAR after ^H310 ^PREP other ^H312 ^AMP gods ^H430 ^EDP to serve ^H5647 them , and to worship ^H7812 them , and provoke me not to anger ^H3808 ^W-NPAR with the works ^H4639 of your hands ^H3027 ; and I will do you no hurt ^H3808 ^W-NPAR .

7 Yet ye have not ^H3808 ^W-NPAR hearkened ^H8085 unto ^H413 ^PREP-1MS me , saith ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS ; that ^H4616 ^L-CONJ ye might provoke me to anger ^H3707 with the works ^H4639 of your hands ^H3027 to your own hurt ^H7451 .

8 Therefore ^H3651 ^L-ADV thus ^H3541 saith ^H559 ^VQQ3MS the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS of hosts ^H6635 ; Because ^H3282 ^ADV ye have not ^H3808 ^ADV heard ^H8085 my words ^H1697 ,

9 Behold ^H2009 , I will send ^H7971 and take ^H3947 all ^H3605 ^NMS the families ^H4940 ^CFP of the north ^H6828 ^NFS , saith ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS , and Nebuchadnezzar ^H5019 the king ^H4428 ^NMS of Babylon ^H894 ^LFS , my servant ^H5650 ^CMS-1MS , and will bring ^H935 them against ^H5921 ^PREP this ^H2063 ^D-DFS land ^H776 ^D-GFS , and against ^H5921 ^PREP the inhabitants ^H3427 thereof , and against ^H5921 ^PREP all ^H3605 ^NMS these ^H428 ^D-DPRO-3MP nations ^H1471 ^D-NMP round about ^H5439 ^ADV , and will utterly destroy ^H2763 them , and make ^H7760 them an astonishment ^H8047 , and a hissing ^H8322 , and perpetual ^H5769 ^NMS desolations ^H2723 .

10 Moreover I will take ^H6 from ^H4480 them the voice ^H6963 ^CMS of mirth ^H8342 , and the voice ^H6963 ^W-CMS of gladness ^H8057 , the voice ^H6963 ^CMS of the bridegroom ^H2860 , and the voice ^H6963 ^W-CMS of the bride ^H3618 , the sound ^H6963 ^CMS of the millstones ^H7347 , and the light ^H216 ^W-CMS of the candle ^H5216 .

11 And this ^H2063 ^D-DFS whole ^H3605 ^NMS land ^H776 ^D-GFS shall be ^H1961 ^W-VQQ3FS a desolation ^H2723 , and an astonishment ^H8047 ; and these ^H428 ^D-DPRO-3MP nations ^H1471 ^D-NMP shall serve ^H5647 the king ^H4428 ^NMS of Babylon ^H894 ^LFS seventy ^H7657 ^ONUM years ^H8141 ^NFS .

12 And it shall come to pass ^H1961 ^W-VQQ3MS , when seventy ^H7657 ^ONUM years ^H8141 ^NFS are accomplished ^H4390 , that I will punish ^H6485 the king ^H4428 ^NMS of Babylon ^H894 ^LFS , and that ^H1931 ^D-PPRO-3MS nation ^H1471 , saith ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS , for ^H854 their iniquity ^H5771 , and the land ^H776 ^GFS of the Chaldeans ^H3778 ^TMP , and will make ^H7760 ^W-VQQ1MS it perpetual ^H5769 ^NMS desolations ^H8077 .

13 And I will bring ^H935 upon ^H5921 ^PREP that ^H1931 land ^H776 ^D-GFS all ^H3605 ^NMS my words ^H1697 ^CMP-1MS which ^H834 ^RPRO I have pronounced ^H1696 ^VPQ1MS against ^H5921 ^PREP it , even all ^H3605 ^NMS that is written ^H3789 in this ^H2088 ^D-PMS book ^H5612 ^BD-NMS , which ^H834 ^RPRO Jeremiah ^H3414 hath prophesied ^H5012 against ^H5921 ^PREP all ^H3605 ^NMS the nations ^H1471 .

14 For ^H3588 ^CONJ many ^H7227 ^AMP nations ^H1471 ^NMP and great ^H1419 kings ^H4428 shall serve ^H5647 themselves ^H1992 ^PPRO-3MP of them also ^H1571 ^CONJ : and I will recompense ^H7999 them according to their deeds ^H6467 , and according to the works ^H4639 of their own hands ^H3027 ^CFD-3MP .

15 For ^H3588 ^CONJ thus ^H3541 saith ^H559 ^VQQ3MS the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS God ^H430 ^CDP of Israel ^H3478 unto ^H413 ^PREP-1MS me ; Take ^H3947 ^VQI2MS the wine ^H3196 ^D-NMS cup ^H3563 of this ^H2063 ^D-DFS fury ^H2534 at my hand ^H3027 , and cause all ^H3605 ^NMS the nations ^H1471 ^D-NMP , to whom ^H834 ^RPRO I ^H595 ^PPRO-1MS send ^H7971 thee , to drink ^H8248 it .

16 And they shall drink ^H8354 , and be moved ^H1607 , and be mad ^H1984 , because ^H6440 ^M-CMP of the sword ^H2719 ^D-GFS that ^H834 ^RPRO I will send ^H7971 among ^H996 them .

17 Then took ^H3947 I the cup ^H3563 at the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS \'s hand ^H3027 ^M-GFS , and made all ^H3605 ^NMS the nations ^H1471 ^D-NMP to drink ^H8248 , unto ^H413 whom ^H834 ^RPRO the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS had sent ^H7971 me :

18 To wit , Jerusalem ^H3389 , and the cities ^H5892 of Judah ^H3063 , and the kings ^H4428 thereof , and the princes ^H8269 thereof , to make ^H5414 ^L-VQFC them a desolation ^H2723 , an astonishment ^H8047 , a hissing ^H8322 , and a curse ^H7045 ; as it is this ^H2088 ^D-PMS day ^H3117 ;

19 Pharaoh ^H6547 ^EMS king ^H4428 ^NMS of Egypt ^H4714 ^EFS , and his servants ^H5650 , and his princes ^H8269 ^CMP-3MS , and all ^H3605 ^NMS his people ^H5971 ;

20 And all ^H3605 ^NMS the mingled people ^H6154 , and ^H853 ^W-PART all ^H3605 ^NMS the kings ^H4428 ^CMP of the land ^H776 ^GFS of Uz ^H5780 , and all ^H3605 ^NMS the kings ^H4428 ^CMP of the land ^H776 ^GFS of the Philistines ^H6430 ^TMS , and Ashkelon ^H831 , and Azzah ^H5804 ^LFS , and Ekron ^H6138 , and the remnant ^H7611 of Ashdod ^H795 ,

21 Edom ^H123 , and Moab ^H4124 , and the children ^H1121 of Ammon ^H5983 ,

22 And all ^H3605 ^NMS the kings ^H4428 ^CMP of Tyrus ^H6865 , and all ^H3605 ^NMS the kings ^H4428 ^CMP of Zidon ^H6721 , and the kings ^H4428 ^CMP of the isles ^H339 which ^H834 ^RPRO are beyond ^H5676 the sea ^H3220 ^D-NMS ,

23 Dedan ^H1719 , and Tema ^H8485 , and Buz ^H938 , and all ^H3605 ^NMS that are in the utmost ^H7112 corners ^H6285 ,

24 And all ^H3605 ^NMS the kings ^H4428 ^CMP of Arabia ^H6152 , and all ^H3605 ^NMS the kings ^H4428 ^CMP of the mingled people ^H6154 that dwell ^H7931 in the desert ^H4057 ,

25 And all ^H3605 ^NMS the kings ^H4428 ^CMP of Zimri ^H2174 , and all ^H3605 ^NMS the kings ^H4428 ^CMP of Elam ^H5867 ^EMS , and all ^H3605 ^NMS the kings ^H4428 ^CMP of the Medes ^H4074 ,

26 And all ^H3605 ^NMS the kings ^H4428 ^CMP of the north ^H6828 , far ^H7350 and near ^H7138 , one ^H376 ^NMS with ^H413 ^PREP another ^H251 ^CMS-3MS , and all ^H3605 ^NMS the kingdoms ^H4467 of the world ^H776 ^D-GFS , which ^H834 ^RPRO are upon ^H5921 ^PREP the face ^H6440 ^CMP of the earth ^H127 ^D-NFS : and the king ^H4428 of Sheshach ^H8347 shall drink ^H8354 after ^H310 them .

27 Therefore thou shalt say ^H559 unto ^H413 ^PREP-3MP them , Thus ^H3541 saith ^H559 ^VQQ3MS the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS of hosts ^H6635 , the God ^H430 ^CDP of Israel ^H3478 ; Drink ^H8354 ye , and be drunken ^H7937 , and spew ^H7006 , and fall ^H5307 , and rise ^H6965 no ^H3808 ^W-NPAR more , because ^H6440 ^M-CMP of the sword ^H2719 ^D-GFS which ^H834 ^RPRO I ^H595 ^PPRO-1MS will send ^H7971 among ^H996 you .

28 And it shall be ^H1961 ^W-VQQ3MS , if ^H3588 ^CONJ they refuse ^H3985 to take ^H3947 the cup ^H3563 at thine hand ^H3027 ^M-CFS-2MS to drink ^H8354 , then shalt thou say ^H559 unto ^H413 ^PREP-3MP them , Thus ^H3541 saith ^H559 ^VQQ3MS the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS of hosts ^H6635 ; Ye shall certainly drink ^H8354 .

29 For ^H3588 ^CONJ , lo ^H2009 ^IJEC , I ^H595 ^PPRO-1MS begin ^H2490 to bring evil ^H7489 on the city ^H5892 ^BD-NFS which ^H834 ^RPRO is called ^H7121 by ^H5921 ^PREP my name ^H8034 , and should ye ^H859 ^W-PPRO-2MP be utterly unpunished ^H5352 ? Ye shall not ^H3808 ^NADV be unpunished ^H5352 : for ^H3588 ^CONJ I ^H589 ^PPRO-1MS will call for ^H7121 ^VQPMS a sword ^H2719 ^GFS upon ^H5921 ^PREP all ^H3605 ^NMS the inhabitants ^H3427 of the earth ^H776 ^D-GFS , saith ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS of hosts ^H6635 .

30 Therefore prophesy ^H5012 thou ^H859 ^W-PPRO-2MS against ^H413 ^PREP them all ^H3605 ^NMS these ^H428 ^D-DPRO-3MP words ^H1697 ^AMP , and say ^H559 unto ^H413 ^PREP them , The LORD ^H3068 ^EDS shall roar ^H7580 from on high ^H4791 , and utter ^H5414 ^VHFA his voice ^H6963 from his holy ^H6944 habitation ^H4583 ; he shall mightily roar ^H7580 upon ^H5921 ^PREP his habitation ^H5116 ^CMS-3MS ; he shall give ^H6030 a shout ^H1959 , as they that tread ^H1869 the grapes , against ^H413 ^PREP all ^H3605 ^NMS the inhabitants ^H3427 of the earth ^H776 ^D-GFS .

31 A noise ^H7588 shall come ^H935 ^VQPMS even to ^H5704 ^PREP the ends ^H7097 of the earth ^H776 ^D-GFS ; for ^H3588 ^CONJ the LORD ^H3068 ^L-EDS hath a controversy ^H7379 ^NMS with the nations ^H1471 , he ^H1931 ^PPRO-3MS will plead ^H8199 with all ^H3605 ^L-CMS flesh ^H1320 ^NMS ; he will give ^H5414 them that are wicked ^H7563 ^D-NMP to the sword ^H2719 , saith ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068 ^NAME-4MS .

32 Thus ^H3541 saith ^H559 ^VQQ3MS the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS of hosts ^H6635 , Behold ^H2009 ^IJEC , evil ^H7451 ^AFS shall go forth ^H3318 from nation ^H1471 to ^H413 ^PREP nation ^H1471 ^NMS , and a great ^H1419 ^AMS whirlwind ^H5591 shall be raised up ^H5782 from the coasts ^H3411 of the earth ^H776 ^GFS .

33 And the slain ^H2491 of the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS shall be ^H1961 ^W-VQQ3MS at that ^H1931 ^D-PPRO-3MS day ^H3117 ^B-AMS from one end ^H7097 ^M-CMS of the earth ^H776 ^D-GFS even unto ^H5704 ^W-PREP the other end ^H7097 of the earth ^H776 ^D-GFS : they shall not ^H3808 ^NADV be lamented ^H5594 , neither ^H3808 ^W-NADV gathered ^H622 , nor ^H3808 ^W-NADV buried ^H6912 ^VNY3MP ; they shall be ^H1961 ^VQY3MP dung ^H1828 upon ^H5921 ^PREP the ground ^H127 ^D-NFS .

34 Howl ^H3213 , ye shepherds ^H7462 , and cry ^H2199 ; and wallow yourselves ^H6428 in the ashes , ye principal ^H117 of the flock ^H6629 : for ^H3588 ^CONJ the days ^H3117 of your slaughter ^H2873 and of your dispersions ^H8600 are accomplished ^H4390 ^VQQ3MP ; and ye shall fall ^H5307 like a pleasant ^H2532 vessel ^H3627 .

35 And the shepherds ^H7462 shall have no way to flee ^H6 , nor the principal ^H117 of the flock ^H6629 to escape ^H6413 .

36 A voice ^H6963 ^CMS of the cry ^H6818 of the shepherds ^H7462 , and a howling ^H3215 of the principal ^H117 of the flock ^H6629 , shall be heard : for ^H3588 ^CONJ the LORD ^H3068 ^EDS hath spoiled ^H7703 their pasture ^H4830 .

37 And the peaceable ^H7965 habitations ^H4999 are cut down ^H1826 because ^H6440 ^M-CMP of the fierce ^H2740 ^CMS anger ^H639 ^CMS of the LORD ^H3068 ^NAME-4MS .

38 He hath forsaken ^H5800 ^VQQ3MS his covert ^H5520 , as the lion ^H3715 : for ^H3588 ^CONJ their land ^H776 is ^H1961 ^VQQ3FS desolate ^H8047 because ^H6440 ^M-CMP of the fierceness ^H2740 ^CMS of the oppressor ^H3238 , and because ^H6440 of his fierce ^H2740 ^CMS anger ^H639 ^CMS-3MS .
