1 അനന്തരം സാത്താന്‍ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു വിരോധമായി എഴുന്നേറ്റു യിസ്രായേലിനെ എണ്ണുവാന്‍ ദാവീദിന്നു തോന്നിച്ചു.
2 ദാവീദ് യോവാബീനോടും ജനത്തിന്റെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടുംനിങ്ങള്‍ ചെന്നു ബേര്‍-ശേബമുതല്‍ ദാന്‍ വരെ യിസ്രായേലിനെ എണ്ണി അവരുടെ സംഖ്യ ഞാന്‍ അറിയേണ്ടതിന്നു കൊണ്ടുവരുവിന്‍ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
3 അതിന്നു യോവാബ്യഹോവ തന്റെ ജനത്തെ ഉള്ളതില്‍ നൂറിരട്ടിയായി വര്‍ദ്ധിപ്പിക്കട്ടെ; എങ്കിലും എന്റെ യജമാനനായ രാജാവേ, അവര്‍ ഒക്കെയും യജമാനന്റെ ദാസന്മാരല്ലയോ? യജമാനന്‍ ഈ കാര്യം അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു? യിസ്രായേലിന്നു കുറ്റത്തിന്റെ കാരണമായി തീരുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
4 എന്നാല്‍ യോവാബ് രാജാവിന്റെ കല്പന അനുസരിക്കേണ്ടിവന്നു. അതുകൊണ്ടു യോവാബ് പുറപ്പെട്ടു എല്ലായിസ്രായേലിലുംകൂടി സഞ്ചരിച്ചു യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിവന്നു.
5 യോവാബ് ജനത്തെ എണ്ണിയ സംഖ്യ ദാവീദിന്നു കൊടുത്തുയിസ്രായേലില്‍ ആയുധപാണികള്‍ എല്ലാംകൂടി പതിനൊന്നുലക്ഷംപേര്‍. യെഹൂദയില്‍ ആയുധപാണികള്‍ നാലുലക്ഷത്തെഴുപതിനായിരം പേര്‍.
6 എന്നാല്‍ രാജാവിന്റെ കല്പന യോവാബിന്നു വെറുപ്പായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവന്‍ ലേവിയെയും ബെന്യാമീനെയും അവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില്‍ എണ്ണിയില്ല.
7 ദൈവത്തിന്നു ഈ കാര്യം അനിഷ്ടമായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവന്‍ യിസ്രായേലിനെ ബാധിച്ചു.
8 അപ്പോള്‍ ദാവീദ് ദൈവത്തോടുഈ കാര്യം ചെയ്തതിനാല്‍ ഞാന്‍ മഹാപാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നുഎന്നാല്‍ അടിയന്റെ അകൃത്യം ക്ഷമിക്കേണമേഞാന്‍ വലിയ ഭോഷത്വം ചെയ്തുപോയി എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
9 യഹോവ ദാവീദിന്റെ ദര്‍ശകനായ ഗാദിനോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതെന്തെന്നാല്‍
10 നീ ചെന്നു ദാവീദിനോടുഞാന്‍ മൂന്നു കാര്യം നിന്റെ മുമ്പില്‍ വെക്കുന്നു; അവയില്‍ ഒന്നു തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തുകൊള്‍ക; അതു ഞാന്‍ നിന്നോടു ചെയ്യും എന്നു യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്നു പറക.
11 അങ്ങനെ ഗാദ് ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ ചെന്നു അവനോടുയഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു
12 മൂന്നു സംവത്സരത്തെ ക്ഷാമമോ, നിന്റെ ശത്രുക്കളുടെ വാള്‍ നിന്നെ തുടര്‍ന്നെത്തി നീ മൂന്നു മാസം നിന്റെ ശത്രുക്കളാല്‍ നശിക്കയോ, ദേശത്തു മൂന്നു ദിവസം യഹോവയുടെ വാളായ മാഹാമാരി ഉണ്ടായി യിസ്രായേല്‍ദേശത്തൊക്കെയും യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന്‍ സംഹാരം ചെയ്കയോ ഇവയില്‍ ഒന്നു തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തുകൊള്‍ക. എന്നെ അയച്ചവനോടു ഞാന്‍ എന്തൊരു മറുപടി പറയേണ്ടു എന്നു ആലോചിച്ചുനോക്കുക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
13 ദാവീദ് ഗാദിനോടുഞാന്‍ വലിയ വിഷമത്തിലായിരിക്കുന്നു; ഞാന്‍ ഇപ്പോള്‍ യഹോവയുടെ കയ്യില്‍ തന്നേ വീഴട്ടെ; അവന്റെ കരുണ ഏറ്റവും വലിയതല്ലോ; മനുഷ്യന്റെ കയ്യില്‍ ഞാന്‍ വീഴരുതേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
14 അങ്ങനെ യഹോവ ഇസ്രായേലില്‍ മഹാമാരി അയച്ചു; യിസ്രായേലില്‍ എഴുപതിനായിരംപേര്‍ വീണുപോയി.
15 ദൈവം യെരൂശലേമിനെ നശിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഒരു ദൂതനെ അവിടെ അയച്ചു; അവന്‍ നശിപ്പിപ്പാന്‍ ഭാവിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ യഹോവ കണ്ടു ആ അനര്‍ത്ഥത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു അനുതപിച്ചു നാശകദൂതനോടുമതി, നിന്റെ കൈ പിന്‍ വലിക്ക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു, യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന്‍ യെബൂസ്യനായ ഒര്‍ന്നാന്റെ കളത്തിന്നരികെ നില്‍ക്കയായിരുന്നു.
16 ദാവീദ് തല പൊക്കി, യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന്‍ വാള്‍ ഊരി യെരൂശലേമിന്നു മീതെ നീട്ടിപ്പിടിച്ചുംകൊണ്ടും ഭൂമിക്കും ആകാശത്തിന്നും മദ്ധ്യേ നിലക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു ദാവീദും മൂപ്പന്മാരും രട്ടുടുത്തു സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു.
17 ദാവീദ് ദൈവത്തോടുജനത്തെ എണ്ണുവാന്‍ പറഞ്ഞവന്‍ ഞാനല്ലയോ? ദോഷം ചെയ്ത പാപി ഞാന്‍ ആകുന്നു; ഈ ആടുകള്‍ എന്തു ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു? യഹോവേ, എന്റെ ദൈവമേ, നിന്റെ കൈ ബാധക്കായിട്ടു നിന്റെ ജനത്തിന്മേല്‍ അല്ല, എന്റെമേലും എന്റെ പിതൃഭവനത്തിന്മേലും ഇരിക്കട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
18 അപ്പോള്‍ യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന്‍ ഗാദിനോടു ദാവീദ് ചെന്നു യെബൂസ്യനായ ഒര്‍ന്നാന്റെ കളത്തില്‍ യഹോവേക്കു ഒരു യാഗപീഠം പണിയേണമെന്നു ദാവീദിനോടു പറവാന്‍ കല്പിച്ചു.
19 യഹോവയുടെ നാമത്തില്‍ ഗാദ് പറഞ്ഞ വചനപ്രകാരം ദാവീദ് ചെന്നു.
20 ഒര്‍ന്നാന്‍ തിരിഞ്ഞു ദൂതനെ കണ്ടു തന്റെ നാലു പുത്രന്മാരുമായി ഒളിച്ചു. ഒര്‍ന്നാന്‍ കോതമ്പു മെതിച്ചു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കയായിരുന്നു.
21 ദാവീദ് ഒര്‍ന്നാന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ വന്നപ്പോള്‍ ഒര്‍ന്നാന്‍ നോക്കി ദാവീദിനെ കണ്ടു കളത്തില്‍നിന്നു പുറത്തുചെന്നു ദാവീദിന്റെ മുമ്പില്‍ സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു നമസ്കരിച്ചു.
22 ദാവീദ് ഒര്‍ന്നാനോടുഈ കളത്തിന്റെ സ്ഥലത്തു ഞാന്‍ യഹോവേക്കു ഒരു യാഗപീഠം പണിയേണ്ടതിന്നു അതു എനിക്കു തരേണം; ബാധ ജനത്തെ വിട്ടുമാറേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ അതു മുഴുവിലെക്കു എനിക്കു തരേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
23 അതിന്നു ഒര്‍ന്നാന്‍ ദാവീദിനോടുഅതു എടുത്തുകൊള്‍ക; യജമാനനായ രാജാവിന്റെ പ്രസാദംപോലെ ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ടാലും; ഇതാ ഞാന്‍ ഹോമയാഗത്തിന്നു കാളകളെയും വിറകിന്നു മെതിവണ്ടികളെയും ഭോജനയാഗത്തിന്നു കോതമ്പിനെയും തരുന്നു; എല്ലാം ഞാന്‍ തരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
24 ദാവീദ് രാജാവു ഒര്‍ന്നാനോടുഅങ്ങനെ അല്ല; ഞാന്‍ മുഴുവിലെക്കേ അതു വാങ്ങുകയുള്ളു; നിനക്കുള്ളതു ഞാന്‍ യഹോവെക്കായിട്ടു എടുക്കയില്ല; ചെലവുകൂടാതെ ഹോമയാഗം കഴിക്കയും ഇല്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
25 അങ്ങനെ ദാവീദ് ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു അറുനൂറു ശേക്കെല്‍ പൊന്നു ഒര്‍ന്നാന്നു കൊടുത്തു.
26 ദാവീദ് അവിടെ യഹോവേക്കു ഒരു യാഗപീഠംപണിതു ഹോമയാഗങ്ങളും സമാധാനയാഗങ്ങളും കഴിച്ചു യഹോവയോടു പ്രാര്‍ത്ഥിച്ചു; അവന്‍ ആകാശത്തില്‍നിന്നു ഹോമപീഠത്തിന്മേല്‍ തീ ഇറക്കി അവന്നു ഉത്തരം അരുളി.
27 യഹോവ ദൂതനോടു കല്പിച്ചു; അവന്‍ തന്റെ വാള്‍ വീണ്ടും ഉറയില്‍ ഇട്ടു.
28 ആ കാലത്തു യെബൂസ്യനായ ഒര്‍ന്നാന്റെ കളത്തില്‍വെച്ചു യഹോവ തന്റെ പ്രാര്‍ത്ഥനെക്കു ഉത്തരമരുളി എന്നു ദാവീദ് കണ്ടിട്ടു അവിടെ യാഗം കഴിച്ചു.
29 മോശെ മരുഭൂമിയില്‍ വെച്ചു ഉണ്ടാക്കിയിരുന്ന യഹോവയുടെ തിരുനിവാസവും ഹോമപീഠവും അന്നു ഗിബെയോനിലെ പൂജാഗിരിയില്‍ ആയിരുന്നു.
30 യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന്റെ വാളിനെ പേടിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു ദൈവത്തോടു അരുളപ്പാടു ചോദിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവിടെ ചെല്ലുവാന്‍ ദാവീദിന്നു കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.

3 And Joab H3097 answered H559 W-VQY3MS , The LORD H3068 EDS make his people H5971 a hundred H3967 MFS times H6471 so many more H3254 as they H1992 be : but , my lord H113 the king H4428 D-NMS , are they not H3808 I-NADV all H3605 CMS-3MP my lord H113 \'s servants H5650 ? why H4100 L-IPRO then doth my lord H113 require H1245 this thing H2063 DPRO ? why H4100 L-IPRO will he be H1961 VQY3MS a cause of trespass H819 to Israel H3478 ?
4 Nevertheless the king H4428 D-NMS \'s word H1697 W-CMS prevailed H2388 against H5921 PREP Joab H3097 . Wherefore Joab H3097 departed H3318 W-VQY3MS , and went H1980 W-VTY3MS throughout all H3605 B-CMS Israel H3478 , and came H935 W-VQY3MS to Jerusalem H3389 .

14 So the LORD H3068 EDS sent H5414 W-VQQ3MS pestilence H1698 upon Israel H3478 : and there fell H5307 W-VQY3MS of Israel H3478 seventy H7657 ONUM thousand H505 W-BMS men H376 NMS .
