1 Samuel 12:1 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 Samuel said to all Israel: "I have done everything you wanted me to do. I have put a king over you.
2 Now you have a king to lead you. I am old and gray, but my sons are here with you. I have been your leader since I was young.
3 Here I am. If I have done anything wrong, you must tell these things to the Lord and his chosen king. Did I steal anyone's cow or donkey? Did I hurt or cheat anyone? Did I ever take money, or even a pair of sandals, to do something wrong? If I did any of these things, I will make it right."
4 The Israelites answered, "No, you never did anything bad to us. You never cheated us or took things from us."
5 Samuel said to the Israelites, "The Lord and his chosen king are witnesses today. They heard what you said. They know that you could find nothing wrong with me." The people answered, "Yes, the Lord is our witness!"
6 Then Samuel said to the people, "The Lord has seen what happened. The Lord is the one who chose Moses and Aaron and brought your ancestors out of Egypt.
7 Now, stand there, and I will tell you about the good things the Lord did for you and your ancestors.
8 "Jacob went to Egypt. Later, the Egyptians made life hard for his descendants. So they cried to the Lord for help. The Lord sent Moses and Aaron, and they took your ancestors out of Egypt and led them to live in this place.
9 "But your ancestors forgot the Lord their God. So he let them become the slaves of Sisera, the commander of the army at Hazor. Then the Lord let them become the slaves of the Philistines and the king of Moab. They all fought against your ancestors.
10 But your ancestors cried to the Lord for help. They said, 'We have sinned. We left the Lord, and we served the false gods Baal and Ashtoreth. But now save us from our enemies, and we will serve you.'
11 "So the Lord sent Jerub Baal (Gideon), Barak, Jephthah, and Samuel. He saved you from your enemies around you, and you lived in safety.
12 But then you saw King Nahash of the Ammonites coming to fight against you. You said, 'No, we want a king to rule over us!' You said that, even though the Lord your God was already your king.
13 Now, here is the king you chose. The Lord put this king over you.
14 You must fear and respect the Lord. You must serve him and obey his commands. You must not turn against him. You and the king ruling over you must follow the Lord your God. If you do, God will save you.
15 But if you don't obey the Lord, and if you turn against him, he will be against you. The Lord will destroy you and your king.
16 "Now stand still and see the great thing the Lord will do before your eyes.
17 Now is the time of the wheat harvest. I will pray to the Lord and ask him to send thunder and rain. Then you will know you did a very bad thing against the Lord when you asked for a king."
18 So Samuel prayed to the Lord. That same day the Lord sent thunder and rain. And the people became very afraid of the Lord and Samuel.
19 All the people said to Samuel, "Pray to the Lord your God for us, your servants. Don't let us die! We have sinned many times. And now we have added to these sins—we have asked for a king."
20 Samuel answered, "Don't be afraid. It is true that you did all these bad things, but don't stop following the Lord. Serve the Lord with all your heart.
21 Idols are only statues—they can't help you. So don't worship them. Idols can't help you or save you. They are nothing!
22 "But the Lord won't leave his people. No, the Lord was pleased to make you his own people. So for his own good name, he won't leave you.
23 And as for me, I would never stop praying for you. If I stopped praying for you, I would be sinning against the Lord. I will continue to teach you the right way to live a good life.
24 But you must honor the Lord. You must sincerely serve the Lord with all your heart. Remember the wonderful things he did for you.
25 But if you are stubborn and do evil, God will throw you and your king away— like sweeping dirt out with a broom."
1 And Samuel H8050 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP all H3605 NMS Israel H3478 , Behold H2009 IJEC , I have hearkened H8085 VQQ1MS unto your voice H6963 in all H3605 NMS that H834 RPRO ye said H559 W-VQY3MS unto me , and have made a king H4427 over H5921 PREP-2MP you .
2 And now H6258 W-ADV , behold H2009 IJEC , the king H4428 D-NMS walketh H1980 VTPMS before H6440 you : and I H589 W-PPRO-1MS am old H2204 and grayheaded H7867 ; and , behold H2009 IJEC , my sons H1121 are with H854 PART-2MP you : and I H589 W-PPRO-1MS have walked H1980 before H6440 you from my childhood H5271 unto H5704 PREP this H2088 D-PMS day H3117 D-AMS .
3 Behold H2009 , here I am : witness H6030 against me before H5048 the LORD H3068 EDS , and before H5048 his anointed H4899 : whose H4310 IPRO ox H7794 CMS have I taken H3947 ? or whose H4310 IPRO ass H2543 have I taken H3947 ? or whom H4310 IPRO have I defrauded H6231 ? whom H4310 IPRO have I oppressed H7533 ? or of whose hand H3027 WM-GFS have I received H3947 any bribe H3724 to blind H5956 mine eyes H5869 CMD-1MS therewith ? and I will restore H7725 it you .
4 And they said H559 W-VQY3MP , Thou hast not H3808 NADV defrauded H6231 us , nor H3808 W-NADV oppressed H7533 us , neither H3808 ADV hast thou taken H3947 aught H3972 of any man\'s hand H3027 M-GFS .
5 And he said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MP them , The LORD H3068 EDS is witness H5707 against you , and his anointed H4899 is witness H5707 this H2088 D-PMS day H3117 D-AMS , that H3588 CONJ ye have not H3808 NADV found H4672 aught H3972 NMS in my hand H3027 B-CFS-1MS . And they answered H559 W-VQY3MS , He is witness H5707 .
6 And Samuel H8050 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP the people H5971 , It is the LORD H3068 EDS that H834 RPRO advanced H6213 VQQ3MS Moses H4872 and Aaron H175 , and that H834 RPRO brought H5927 your fathers H1 up out of the land H776 M-NFS of Egypt H4714 .
7 Now H6258 W-ADV therefore stand still H3320 , that I may reason H8199 with H854 PART-2MP you before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS of all H3605 NMS the righteous acts H6666 of the LORD H3068 EDS , which H834 RPRO he did H6213 VQQ3MS to H854 PART-2MP you and to H854 W-PART your fathers H1 .
8 When H834 Jacob H3290 was come H935 VQPMS into Egypt H4714 , and your fathers H1 cried H2199 unto H413 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS , then the LORD H3068 EDS sent H7971 W-VQY3MS Moses H4872 and Aaron H175 , which brought forth your fathers H1 out of Egypt H4714 M-TFS , and made them dwell H3427 in this H2088 D-PMS place H4725 .
9 And when they forgot H7911 the LORD H3068 EDS their God H430 , he sold H4376 them into the hand H3027 B-CFS of Sisera H5516 , captain H8269 of the host H6635 of Hazor H2674 , and into the hand H3027 of the Philistines H6430 TMS , and into the hand H3027 of the king H4428 NMS of Moab H4124 , and they fought H3898 against them .
10 And they cried H2199 unto H413 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS , and said H559 , We have sinned H2398 , because H3588 CONJ we have forsaken H5800 the LORD H3068 EDS , and have served H5647 Baalim H1168 and Ashtaroth H6252 : but now H6258 W-ADV deliver H5337 us out of the hand H3027 M-GFS of our enemies H341 , and we will serve H5647 thee .
11 And the LORD H3068 EDS sent H7971 W-VQY3MS Jerubbaal H3378 , and Bedan H917 , and Jephthah H3316 , and Samuel H8050 , and delivered H5337 you out of the hand H3027 M-GFS of your enemies H341 on every side H5439 M-ADV , and ye dwelled H3427 safe H983 .
12 And when ye saw H7200 that H3588 CONJ Nahash H5176 the king H4428 NMS of the children H1121 of Ammon H5983 came H935 VQPMS against H5921 PREP-2MP you , ye said H559 unto me , Nay H3808 NADV ; but H3588 CONJ a king H4428 NMS shall reign H4427 over H5921 PREP-1MP us : when the LORD H3068 W-EDS your God H430 was your king H4428 NMS .
13 Now H6258 W-ADV therefore behold H2009 IJEC the king H4428 NMS whom H834 RPRO ye have chosen H977 , and whom H834 RPRO ye have desired H7592 VQQ2MP ! and , behold H2009 IJEC , the LORD H3068 EDS hath set H5414 VQQ3MS a king H4428 NMS over H5921 PREP-2MP you .
14 If H518 PART ye will fear H3372 the LORD H3068 EDS , and serve H5647 him , and obey H8085 his voice H6963 , and not H3808 W-NPAR rebel against H4784 the commandment H6310 of the LORD H3068 EDS , then shall both H1571 CONJ ye H859 PPRO-2MS and also H1571 W-CONJ the king H4428 D-NMS that H834 RPRO reigneth H4427 over H5921 PREP-2MP you continue H1961 following H310 ADV the LORD H3068 EDS your God H430 :
15 But if H518 W-PART ye will not H3808 NADV obey H8085 the voice H6963 B-NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , but rebel against H4784 the commandment H6310 of the LORD H3068 EDS , then shall the hand H3027 CFS of the LORD H3068 EDS be H1961 W-VQQ3FS against you , as it was against your fathers H1 .
16 Now H6258 ADV therefore H1571 CONJ stand H3320 and see H7200 this H2088 D-PMS great H1419 D-AMS thing H1697 D-NMS , which H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS will do H6213 VQPMS before your eyes H5869 .
17 Is it not H3808 D-NPAR wheat H2406 harvest H7105 today H3117 D-AMS ? I will call H7121 unto H413 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS , and he shall send H5414 thunder H6963 and rain H4306 ; that ye may perceive H3045 and see H7200 that H3588 CONJ your wickedness H7451 is great H7227 AFS , which H834 RPRO ye have done H6213 in the sight H5869 B-CMP of the LORD H3068 EDS , in asking H7592 you a king H4428 NMS .
18 So Samuel H8050 called H7121 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS ; and the LORD H3068 EDS sent H5414 W-VQQ3MS thunder H6963 and rain H4306 that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS : and all H3605 CMS the people H5971 greatly H3966 ADV feared H3372 W-VQY3MS the LORD H3068 EDS and Samuel H8050 .
19 And all H3605 NMS the people H5971 said H559 W-VQY3MP unto H413 PREP Samuel H8050 , Pray H6419 for H1157 PREP thy servants H5650 unto H413 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS , that we die H4191 not H408 W-NPAR : for H3588 CONJ we have added H3254 unto H5921 PREP all H3605 NMS our sins H2403 this evil H7451 AFS , to ask H7592 L-VQFC us a king H4428 NMS .
20 And Samuel H8050 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP the people H5971 , Fear H3372 not H408 NPAR : ye H859 PPRO-2MS have done H6213 all H3605 NMS this H2063 D-DFS wickedness H7451 D-AFS : yet H389 ADV turn not aside H408 NPAR from following H310 the LORD H3068 EDS , but serve H5647 the LORD H3068 EDS with all H3605 NMS your heart H3824 ;
21 And turn ye not aside H3808 W-NPAR : for H3588 CONJ then should ye go after H310 PREP vain H8414 things , which H834 RPRO cannot H3808 W-NPAR profit H3276 nor H3808 W-NPAR deliver H5337 ; for H3588 CONJ they H1992 are vain H8414 .
22 For H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS will not H3808 ADV forsake H5203 his people H5971 for his great H1419 D-AMS name H8034 CMS-3MS \'s sake H5668 B-NMS : because H3588 CONJ it hath pleased H2974 the LORD H3068 EDS to make H6213 L-VQFC you his people H5971 .
23 Moreover H1571 CONJ as for me H595 PPRO-1MS , God forbid H486 that I should sin H2398 against the LORD H3068 L-EDS in ceasing H2308 to pray H6419 for H1157 you : but I will teach H3384 you the good H2896 and the right H3477 way H1870 B-NMS :
24 Only H389 ADV fear H3372 the LORD H3068 EDS , and serve H5647 him in truth H571 with all H3605 B-CMS your heart H3824 : for H3588 CONJ consider H7200 how H834 RPRO great things he hath done H1431 for H5973 you .
25 But if H518 W-PART ye shall still do wickedly H7489 , ye shall be consumed H5595 , both H1571 CONJ ye H859 PPRO-2MS and H1571 CONJ your king H4428 .
