1 Corinthians 12 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 Now, brothers and sisters, I want you to understand about spiritual gifts.
2 You remember the lives you lived before you were believers. You let yourselves be influenced and led away to worship idols —things that have no life.
3 So I tell you that no one who is speaking with the help of God's Spirit says, "Jesus be cursed." And no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," without the help of the Holy Spirit.
4 There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but they are all from the same Spirit.
5 There are different ways to serve, but we serve the same Lord.
6 And there are different ways that God works in people, but it is the same God who works in all of us to do everything.
7 Something from the Spirit can be seen in each person. The Spirit gives this to each one to help others.
8 The Spirit gives one person the ability to speak with wisdom. And the same Spirit gives another person the ability to speak with knowledge.
9 The same Spirit gives faith to one person and to another he gives gifts of healing.
10 The Spirit gives to one person the power to do miracles, to another the ability to prophesy, and to another the ability to know the difference between good and evil spirits. The Spirit gives one person the ability to speak in different kinds of languages, and to another the ability to interpret those languages.
11 One Spirit, the same Spirit, does all these things. The Spirit decides what to give each one.
12 A person has only one body, but it has many parts. Yes, there are many parts, but all those parts are still just one body. Christ is like that too.
13 Some of us are Jews and some of us are not; some of us are slaves and some of us are free. But we were all baptized to become one body through one Spirit. And we were all given the one Spirit.
14 And a person's body has more than one part. It has many parts.
15 The foot might say, "I am not a hand, so I don't belong to the body." But saying this would not stop the foot from being a part of the body.
16 The ear might say, "I am not an eye, so I don't belong to the body." But saying this would not make the ear stop being a part of the body.
17 If the whole body were an eye, it would not be able to hear. If the whole body were an ear, it would not be able to smell anything.
18 If each part of the body were the same part, there would be no body. But as it is, God put the parts in the body as he wanted them. He made a place for each one.

20 So there are many parts, but only one body.
21 The eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you!" And the head cannot say to the foot, "I don't need you!"
22 No, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are really very important.
23 And the parts that we think are not worth very much are the parts we give the most care to. And we give special care to the parts of the body that we don't want to show.
24 The more beautiful parts don't need this special care. But God put the body together and gave more honor to the parts that need it.
25 God did this so that our body would not be divided. God wanted the different parts to care the same for each other.
26 If one part of the body suffers, then all the other parts suffer with it. Or if one part is honored, then all the other parts share its honor.
27 All of you together are the body of Christ. Each one of you is a part of that body.
28 And in the church God has given a place first to apostles, second to prophets, and third to teachers. Then God has given a place to those who do miracles, those who have gifts of healing, those who can help others, those who are able to lead, and those who can speak in different kinds of languages.
29 Not all are apostles. Not all are prophets. Not all are teachers. Not all do miracles.
30 Not all have gifts of healing. Not all speak in different kinds of languages. Not all interpret those languages.
31 Continue to give your attention to the spiritual gifts you consider to be the greatest. But I want to point out a way of life that is even greater. And now I will show you the best way of all.

2 Ye know G1492 V-RAI-2P that G3754 CONJ ye were G2258 V-IXI-2P Gentiles G1484 N-NPN , carried away G520 V-PPP-NPM unto G4314 PREP these G3588 T-APN dumb G880 A-APN idols G1497 N-APN , even as G5613 ADV ye were led G71 V-IPI-2P .
3 Wherefore G1352 CONJ I give you to understand G1107 V-PAI-1S , that G3754 CONJ no man G3762 A-NSM speaking G2980 V-PAP-NSM by G1722 PREP the Spirit G4151 N-DSN of God G2316 N-GSM calleth G3004 V-PAI-3S Jesus G2424 N-ASM accursed G331 N-NSN : and G2532 CONJ that no man G3762 A-NSM can G1410 V-PNI-3S say G2036 V-2AAN that Jesus G2424 N-ASM is the Lord G2962 N-ASM , but G1508 by G1722 PREP the Holy G40 A-DSN Ghost G4151 N-DSN .
4 Now G1161 CONJ there are G1526 V-PXI-3P diversities G1243 N-NPF of G3588 T-NSN gifts G5486 N-GPN , but G1161 CONJ the G3588 T-NSN same G846 P-NSN Spirit G4151 N-NSN .
5 And G2532 CONJ there are G1526 V-PXI-3P differences G1243 N-NPF of administrations G1248 N-GPF , but G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM same G846 P-NSM Lord G2962 N-NSM .
6 And G2532 CONJ there are G1526 V-PXI-3P diversities G1243 N-NPF of G3588 T-NSM operations G1755 N-GPN , but G1161 CONJ it is G2076 V-PXI-3S the G3588 T-NSM same G846 P-NSM God G2316 N-NSM which G3588 T-APN worketh G1754 V-PAP-NSM all G3956 A-APN in G1722 PREP all G3956 A-DPN .
7 But G1161 CONJ the G3588 T-NSF manifestation G5321 N-NSF of G3588 T-GSN the G3588 T-GSN Spirit G4151 N-GSN is given G1325 V-PPI-3S to every man G1538 A-DSM to G4314 PREP profit G4851 V-PAP-ASN withal .

11 But G1161 CONJ all G3956 A-APN these G5023 D-APN worketh G1754 V-PAI-3S that one G1520 A-NSN and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSN selfsame G846 P-NSN Spirit G4151 N-NSN , dividing G1244 V-PAP-NSN to every man G1538 A-DSM severally G2398 A-DSF as G2531 ADV he will G1014 V-PNI-3S .
12 For G1063 CONJ as G2509 ADV the G3588 T-NSN body G4983 N-NSN is G2076 V-PXI-3S one G1520 A-NSN , and G2532 CONJ hath G2192 V-PAI-3S many G4183 A-APN members G3196 N-APN , and G1161 CONJ all G3956 A-NPN the G3588 T-NPN members G3196 N-NPN of G3588 T-GSN that G3588 T-GSN one G1520 A-GSN body G4983 N-GSN , being G5607 V-PXP-NPN many G4183 A-NPN , are G2076 V-PXI-3S one G1520 A-NSN body G4983 N-NSN : so G3779 ADV also G2532 CONJ is Christ G5547 N-NSM .

20 But G1161 CONJ now G3568 ADV are they many G4183 A-NPN members G3196 N-NPN , yet G1161 CONJ but one G1520 A-NSN body G4983 N-NSN .
21 And G1161 CONJ the eye G3788 N-NSM cannot G1410 V-PNI-3S say G2036 V-2AAN unto the G3588 T-DSF hand G5495 N-DSF , I have G2192 V-PAI-1S no G3756 PRT-N need G5532 N-ASF of thee G4675 P-2GS : nor G2228 PRT again G3825 ADV the G3588 T-NSF head G2776 N-NSF to the G3588 T-DPM feet G4228 N-DPM , I have G2192 V-PAI-1S no G3756 PRT-N need G5532 N-ASF of you G5216 P-2GP .
22 Nay G235 CONJ , much G4183 A-DSN more G3123 ADV those members G3196 N-NPN of G3588 T-GSN the G3588 T-GSN body G4983 N-GSN , which seem G1380 V-PAP-NPN to be G5225 V-PAN more feeble G772 A-NPN-C , are G2076 V-PXI-3S necessary G316 A-NPN :
23 And G2532 CONJ those members of G3588 T-GSN the G3588 T-GSN body G4983 N-GSN , which G3739 R-APN we think G1380 V-PAI-1P to be G1511 V-PXN less honorable G820 A-APN-C , upon these G5125 D-DPN we bestow G4060 V-PAI-1P more abundant G4055 honor G5092 N-ASF ; and G2532 CONJ our G3588 T-NPN uncomely G809 A-NPN parts have G2192 V-PAI-3S more abundant G4055 comeliness G2157 N-ASF .
24 For G1161 CONJ our G2257 P-1GP comely G2158 A-NPN parts have G2192 V-PAI-3S no G3756 PRT-N need G5532 N-ASF : but G235 CONJ God G2316 N-NSM hath tempered the body together G4786 V-AAI-3S , having given G1325 V-2AAP-NSM more abundant G4055 honor G5092 N-ASF to that G3588 T-DSM part G3588 T-DSM which lacked G5302 V-PPP-DSM :

26 And G2532 CONJ whether G1535 CONJ one G1520 A-NSN member G3196 N-NSN suffer G3958 V-PAI-3S , all G3956 A-NPN the G3588 T-NPN members G3196 N-NPN suffer with G4841 V-PAI-3S it ; or G1535 CONJ one G1520 A-NSN member G3196 N-NSN be honored G1392 V-PPI-3S , all G3956 A-NPN the G3588 T-NPN members G3196 N-NPN rejoice with G4796 V-PAI-2S it .

28 And G2532 CONJ God G2316 N-NSM hath set G5087 V-2AMI-3S some G3739 R-APM in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSF church G1577 N-DSF , first G4412 ADV apostles G652 N-APM , secondarily G1208 ADV prophets G4396 N-APM , thirdly G5154 ADV teachers G1320 N-APM , after that G1899 ADV miracles G1411 N-APF , then G1534 ADV gifts G5486 N-APN of healings G2386 N-GPN , helps G484 N-APF , governments G2941 N-APF , diversities G1085 N-APN of tongues G1100 N-GPF .
29 Are PRT-N all G3956 A-NPM apostles G652 N-NPM ? are PRT-N all G3361 PRT-N prophets G4396 N-NPM ? are PRT-N all G3361 PRT-N teachers G1320 N-NPM ? are PRT-N all G3361 PRT-N workers of miracles G1411 N-NPF ?
30 Have G2192 V-PAI-3P all G3956 A-NPM the gifts G5486 N-NPN of healing G2386 N-GPN ? do G3361 PRT-N all G3956 A-NPM speak G2980 V-PAI-3P with tongues G1100 N-DPF ? do G3361 PRT-N all G3956 A-NPM interpret G1329 V-PAI-3P ?
31 But G1161 CONJ covet earnestly G2206 V-PAM-2P the G3588 T-APN best G2909 A-APN gifts G5486 N-APN : and G2532 CONJ yet G2089 ADV show G1166 V-PAI-1S I unto you G5213 P-2DP a more excellent G2596 PREP way G3598 N-ASF .
