1 Kings 16:15 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 Then the Lord spoke against King Baasha through the prophet, Jehu son of Hanani. He said,
2 "I made you an important prince over my people Israel. But you have done the same things Jeroboam did. You have caused my people Israel to sin. Their sins have made me angry.
3 So Baasha, I will destroy you and your family, just as I did Jeroboam son of Nebat and his family.
4 Dogs will eat the bodies of those in your family who die in the city. And wild birds will eat the bodies of those who die out in the fields."
5 The rest of the story about Baasha and the great things he did are written in the book, The History of the Kings of Israel.
6 Baasha died and was buried in Tirzah. His son Elah became the new king after him.
7 That book also has the story of the time the Lord gave the message to Jehu the prophet about Baasha and his family. Baasha did many things the Lord said were wrong, just as Jeroboam did. This and the fact that Baasha had killed Jeroboam made the Lord very angry.
8 Elah son of Baasha became king during the 26 year that Asa was the king of Judah. He ruled in Tirzah for two years.
9 Zimri was one of King Elah's officers. Zimri commanded half of Elah's chariots, but Zimri plotted against Elah. King Elah was in Tirzah, drinking and getting drunk at Arza's home. Arza was the man in charge of the palace at Tirzah.
10 Zimri went into the house and killed King Elah. Then Zimri became the new king of Israel after Elah. This was during the 27 year that Asa was king in Judah.
11 After Zimri became the new king, he killed all of Baasha's family and friends. He did not let any male in Baasha's family live.
12 So Zimri destroyed Baasha's family just as the Lord said he would when he spoke against Baasha through the prophet Jehu.
13 This happened because of all the sins of Baasha and his son Elah. They sinned and they caused the Israelites to sin. They worshiped worthless idols, and this made the Lord angry.
14 The rest of what that Elah did is written in the book, The History of the Kings of Israel.
15 Zimri became king of Israel during the 27 year that Asa was king of Judah. Zimri ruled in Tirzah only seven days. This is what happened: The army of Israel was at Gibbethon, which was under Philistine control.
16 Omri was the commander of the army of Israel. The men in the camp heard that Zimri had made secret plans against the king and killed him. So in the camp all the soldiers made Omri the new king.
17 Then Omri and all the soldiers of Israel left Gibbethon and went to Tirzah. They surrounded the city and attacked it.
18 When Zimri saw the city had been captured, he ran to the palace fortress, but the soldiers burned it down with him still in it.
19 So Zimri died because he sinned and did what the Lord said was wrong, just as Jeroboam did when he caused the Israelites to sin.
20 The story about Zimri's secret plans and the other things that he did are written in the book, The History of the Kings of Israel.
21 Then the Israelites were divided. Half of the people followed Tibni the son of Ginath and wanted to make him king. The other half of the people followed Omri.
22 But Omri's followers were stronger than the followers of Tibni son of Ginath. Tibni died, and Omri became king.
23 Omri became king of Israel during Asa's 31 year as the king of Judah. Omri ruled over Israel for 12 years. Six of those years he ruled from Tirzah.
24 Then Omri bought the hill of Samaria from Shemer for about 150 pounds of silver. Omri built a city on that hill. He named the city Samaria after the name of its owner, Shemer.
25 Omri did what the Lord said was wrong. He was worse than all the kings who were before him.
26 He committed all the sins that Jeroboam son of Nebat had committed when he caused the Israelites to sin. They worshiped worthless idols, and this made the Lord, the God of Israel, very angry.

28 Omri died and was buried in Samaria. His son Ahab became the new king after him.
29 Ahab son of Omri became king of Israel during the 38 year that Asa was king of Judah. Ahab ruled Israel from the town of Samaria for 22 years.
30 He did what the Lord said was wrong. Ahab was worse than all the kings who were before him.
31 It was not enough for Ahab to commit the same sins that Jeroboam son of Nebat had done, Ahab also married Jezebel daughter of King Ethbaal of Sidon. Then Ahab began to serve and worship Baal.
32 He built a temple and an altar in Samaria for worshiping Baal.
33 He also set up a sacred pole. Ahab did more to make the Lord, the God of Israel, angry than all the other kings who were before him.
34 During Ahab's time, Hiel from Bethel rebuilt the town of Jericho. When Hiel started work on the city, his oldest son Abiram died. And when Hiel built the gates of the city, his youngest son, Segub, died. This happened just as the Lord said it would when he spoke through Joshua son of Nun.

2 Forasmuch H3282 ADV as I exalted H7311 thee out of H4480 PREP the dust H6083 , and made H5414 thee prince H5057 NMS over H5921 PREP my people H5971 Israel H3478 ; and thou hast walked H1980 W-VQQ3FS in the way H1870 B-NMS of Jeroboam H3379 , and hast made my people H5971 Israel H3478 to sin H2398 , to provoke me to anger H3707 with their sins H2403 ;
3 Behold H2009 , I will take away H1197 the posterity H310 PREP of Baasha H1201 , and the posterity H310 of his house H1004 CMS-3MS ; and will make H5414 thy house H1004 CMS-2MS like the house H1004 of Jeroboam H3379 the son H1121 of Nebat H5028 .
4 Him that dieth H4191 of Baasha H1201 in the city H5892 BD-NFS shall the dogs H3611 eat H398 ; and him that dieth H4191 of his in the fields H7704 B-NMS shall the fowls H5775 NMS of the air H8064 D-AMD eat H398 .

6 So Baasha H1201 slept H7901 W-VQY3MS with H5973 PREP his fathers H1 , and was buried H6912 in Tirzah H8656 : and Elah H425 his son H1121 reigned H4427 in his stead H8478 .
7 And also H1571 W-CONJ by the hand H3027 B-CFS of the prophet H5030 Jehu H3058 the son H1121 CMS of Hanani H2607 came H1961 VQQ3MS the word H1697 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS against H413 PREP Baasha H1201 , and against H413 PREP his house H1004 NMS-3MS , even for H5921 W-PREP all H3605 NMS the evil H7451 D-AFS that H834 RPRO he did H6213 VQQ3MS in the sight H5869 B-CMP of the LORD H3068 EDS , in provoking him to anger H3707 with the work H4639 of his hands H3027 CFD-3MS , in being H1961 like the house H1004 of Jeroboam H3379 ; and because H5921 W-PREP he killed H5221 him .
8 In the twenty H6242 and sixth H8337 year H8141 B-CFS of Asa H609 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 began Elah H425 the son H1121 CMS of Baasha H1201 to reign H4427 over H5921 PREP Israel H3478 in Tirzah H8656 , two years H8141 B-CFS .
9 And his servant H5650 Zimri H2174 , captain H8269 of half H4276 his chariots H7393 , conspired H7194 against H5921 PREP-3MS him , as he H1931 W-PPRO-3MS was in Tirzah H8656 , drinking H8354 VQPMS himself drunk H7910 in the house H1004 CMS of Arza H777 steward H5921 PREP-3MS of his house H1004 D-NMS in Tirzah H8656 .
10 And Zimri H2174 went in H935 W-VQY3MS and smote H5221 him , and killed H4191 him , in the twenty H6242 and seventh H7651 year H8141 B-CFS of Asa H609 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 , and reigned H4427 in his stead H8478 .
11 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , when he began to reign H4427 , as soon as he sat H3427 on H5921 PREP his throne H3678 , that he slew H5221 all H3605 NMS the house H1004 CMS of Baasha H1201 : he left H7604 him not H3808 ADV one that pisseth H8366 against a wall H7023 , neither of his kinsfolk H1350 , nor of his friends H7453 .
12 Thus did Zimri H2174 destroy H8045 all H3605 NMS the house H1004 CMS of Baasha H1201 , according to the word H1697 K-NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , which H834 RPRO he spoke H1696 VPQ3MS against H413 PREP Baasha H1201 by H3027 B-CFS Jehu H3058 the prophet H5030 ,
13 For H413 PREP all H3605 NMS the sins H2403 of Baasha H1201 , and the sins H2403 of Elah H425 his son H1121 , by which H834 RPRO they sinned H2398 VQQ3MP , and by which H834 RPRO they made Israel to sin H2398 , in provoking H3707 the LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 to anger with their vanities H1892 .
14 Now the rest H3499 of the acts H1697 CMP of Elah H425 , and all H3605 W-CMS that H834 RPRO he did H6213 VQQ3MS , are they H1992 PPRO-3MP not H3808 written H3789 in H5921 PREP the book H5612 CMS of the chronicles H1697 CMP of the kings H4428 of Israel H3478 LMS ?
15 In the twenty H6242 and seventh H7651 year H8141 B-CFS of Asa H609 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 did Zimri H2174 reign H4427 seven H7651 RMS days H3117 NMP in Tirzah H8656 . And the people H5971 were encamped H2583 against H5921 PREP Gibbethon H1405 , which H834 RPRO belonged to the Philistines H6430 .
16 And the people H5971 that were encamped H2583 heard H8085 say H559 L-VQFC , Zimri H2174 hath conspired H7194 , and hath also H1571 W-CONJ slain H5221 the king H4428 D-NMS : wherefore all H3605 Israel H3478 made Omri H6018 , the captain H8269 of the host H6635 NMS , king H4427 over H5921 PREP Israel H3478 that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS in the camp H4264 .
17 And Omri H6018 went up H5927 from H4480 Gibbethon H1405 , and all H3605 W-CMS Israel H3478 with H5973 PREP-3MS him , and they besieged H6696 Tirzah H8656 .
18 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , when Zimri H2174 saw H7200 K-VQFC that H3588 CONJ the city H5892 D-GFS was taken H3920 , that he went H935 W-VQY3MS into H413 PREP the palace H759 of the king H4428 NMS \'s house H1004 CMS , and burnt H8313 the king H4428 NMS \'s house H1004 over H5921 PREP-3MS him with fire H784 , and died H4191 W-VQY3MS ,
19 For H5921 PREP his sins H2403 which H834 RPRO he sinned H2398 VQQ3MS in doing H6213 L-VQFC evil H7451 in the sight H5869 B-CMP of the LORD H3068 EDS , in walking H1980 L-VQFC in the way H1870 B-NMS of Jeroboam H3379 , and in his sin H2403 which H834 RPRO he did H6213 VQQ3MS , to make Israel to sin H2398 .
20 Now the rest H3499 of the acts H1697 CMP of Zimri H2174 , and his treason H7195 that H834 RPRO he wrought H7194 , are they H1992 PPRO-3MP not H3808 I-NPAR written H3789 in H5921 PREP the book H5612 CMS of the chronicles H1697 CMP of the kings H4428 of Israel H3478 LMS ?
21 Then H227 ADV were the people H5971 of Israel H3478 divided H2505 into two parts H2677 : half H2677 of the people H5971 followed H1961 VQQ3MS Tibni H8402 the son H1121 CMS of Ginath H1527 , to make him king H4427 ; and half H2677 followed H310 PREP Omri H6018 .
22 But the people H5971 that H834 RPRO followed H310 PREP Omri H6018 prevailed against H2388 the people H5971 that H834 RPRO followed H310 PREP Tibni H8402 the son H1121 CMS of Ginath H1527 : so Tibni H8402 died H4191 W-VQY3MS , and Omri H6018 reigned H4427 .
23 In the thirty H7970 MMP and first H259 year H8141 B-CFS of Asa H609 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 began Omri H6018 to reign H4427 over H5921 PREP Israel H3478 , twelve H8147 MFS years H8141 B-CFS : six H8337 RFS years H8141 B-CFS reigned H4427 he in Tirzah H8656 .
24 And he bought H7069 the hill H2022 Samaria H8111 of Shemer H8106 for two talents H3603 of silver H3701 NMS , and built on W-VQY3MS the hill H2022 , and called H7121 W-VQY3MS the name H8034 CMS of the city H5892 D-GFS which H834 RPRO he built H1129 W-VQY3MS , after H5921 PREP the name H8034 of Shemer H8106 , owner H113 of the hill H2022 , Samaria H8111 .
25 But Omri H6018 wrought H6213 evil H7451 in the eyes H5869 B-CMP of the LORD H3068 EDS , and did worse H7489 than all H3605 M-CMS that H834 RPRO were before H6440 him .
26 For he walked H1980 W-VQY3MS in all H3605 B-CMS the way H1870 NMS of Jeroboam H3379 the son H1121 of Nebat H5028 , and in his sin H2403 wherewith H834 RPRO he made Israel to sin H2398 , to provoke H3707 the LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 to anger with their vanities H1892 .
27 Now the rest H3499 of the acts H1697 CMP of Omri H6018 which H834 RPRO he did H6213 VQQ3MS , and his might H1369 that H834 RPRO he showed H6213 VQQ3MS , are they H1992 PPRO-3MP not H3808 I-NPAR written H3789 in H5921 PREP the book H5612 CMS of the chronicles H1697 CMP of the kings H4428 of Israel H3478 LMS ?
28 So Omri H6018 slept H7901 W-VQY3MS with H5973 PREP his fathers H1 , and was buried H6912 in Samaria H8111 : and Ahab H256 his son H1121 CMS-3MS reigned H4427 in his stead H8478 .
29 And in the thirty H7970 MMP and eighth H8083 W-MFS year H8141 B-CFS of Asa H609 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 began Ahab H256 the son H1121 of Omri H6018 to reign H4427 over H5921 PREP Israel H3478 : and Ahab H256 the son H1121 of Omri H6018 reigned H4427 over H5921 PREP Israel H3478 in Samaria H8111 twenty H6242 and two H8147 W-OFD years H8141 B-CFS .
30 And Ahab H256 the son H1121 of Omri H6018 did H6213 W-VQY3MS evil H7451 in the sight H5869 B-CMP of the LORD H3068 EDS above all H3605 M-CMS that H834 RPRO were before H6440 him .
31 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , as if it had been a light thing H7043 for him to walk H1980 in the sins H2403 of Jeroboam H3379 the son H1121 of Nebat H5028 , that he took H3947 W-VQY3MS to wife H802 NFS Jezebel H348 the daughter H1323 CFS of Ethbaal H856 king H4428 NMS of the Zidonians H6722 , and went H1980 W-VQY3MS and served H5647 Baal H1168 , and worshiped H7812 him .
32 And he reared up H6965 an altar H4196 NMS for Baal H1168 in the house H1004 CMS of Baal H1168 , which H834 RPRO he had built H1129 VQQ3MS in Samaria H8111 .
33 And Ahab H256 made H6213 W-VQY3MS a grove H842 ; and Ahab H256 did H6213 W-VQY3MS more H3254 to provoke H3707 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 to anger than all H3605 M-CMS the kings H4428 CMP of Israel H3478 that H834 RPRO were H1961 VQQ3MP before H6440 him .
34 In his days H3117 did Hiel H2419 the Bethelite H1017 build H1129 VQQ3MS Jericho H3405 : he laid the foundation H3245 thereof in Abiram H48 his firstborn H1060 CMS-3MS , and set up H5324 the gates H1817 thereof in his youngest H6810 son Segub H7687 , according to the word H1697 K-NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , which H834 RPRO he spoke H1696 VPQ3MS by H3027 B-CFS Joshua H3091 the son H1121 of Nun H5126 .
