Isaiah 38 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 At that time Hezekiah became sick and almost died. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to see him and told him, "The Lord told me to tell you this: 'You will die soon. So you should tell your family what they should do when you die. You will not get well.'"
2 Hezekiah turned toward the wall that faced the Temple and began praying to the Lord.
3 "Lord, remember that I have faithfully served you with all my heart. I have done what you say is good." Then Hezekiah cried very hard.
4 Then Isaiah received this message from the Lord:
5 "Go to Hezekiah and tell him that the Lord, the God of your ancestor David, says, 'I heard your prayer, and I saw your tears. I will add 15 years to your life.
6 I will save you and this city from the king of Assyria. I will protect this city.'"
7 This is the sign from the Lord to show you that he will do what he says:
8 "Look, I am causing the shadow that is on the steps of Ahaz to move back ten steps. The sun's shadow will go back up the ten steps that it has already been on."
9 This is the letter from Hezekiah when he became well:
10 I thought I would live a full life. But now, in the middle of my life, the time has come for me to die.
11 So I said, "I will not see the Lord Yah in the land of the living again. I will not see the people living on earth.
12 My home, my shepherd's tent, is being pulled down and taken from me. I am finished like the cloth someone rolls up and cuts from the loom. You ended my life in such a short time.
13 All night I cried as loud as a lion, but my hopes were crushed like a lion eating bones. You ended my life in such a short time.
14 I cried like a bird and moaned like a dove. My eyes became tired, but I continued looking to the heavens. Lord, I am so depressed. Promise to help me."
15 What can I say? The Lord told me what would happen, and he will make it happen. I have had these troubles in my soul, so now I will be humble all my life.
16 Lord, use this hard time to make my spirit live again. Help my spirit become strong and healthy. Help me become well! Help me live again!
17 Look, my troubles are gone! I now have peace. You love me very much. You did not let me rot in the grave. You took my sins and threw them away.
18 The dead cannot praise you. People in Sheol cannot sing praises to you. Those who have died and gone below are not trusting in your faithfulness.
19 People who are alive, people like me, are the ones who will praise you. Fathers should tell their children how faithful you are.
20 So I say, "The Lord saved me. So we will sing and play songs in the Lord's Temple all our lives."
21 Then Isaiah told Hezekiah, "Crush figs together and put them on your sore, then you will get well."
22 Hezekiah asked Isaiah, "What is the sign that proves I will get well and go to the Lord's Temple?"

2 Then Hezekiah H2396 turned H5437 his face H6440 CMP-3MS toward H413 PREP the wall H7023 , and prayed H6419 W-VTY3MS unto H413 PREP the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS ,
3 And said H559 W-VQY3MS , Remember H2142 VQI2MS now H4994 IJEC , O LORD H3068 EDS , I beseech thee H577 IJEC , how H834 RPRO I have walked H1980 before H6440 L-CMP-2MS thee in truth H571 and with a perfect H8003 heart H3820 , and have done H6213 VQQ1MS that which is good H2896 in thy sight H5869 . And Hezekiah H2396 wept H1058 sore H1419 .
4 Then came H1961 W-VPY3MS the word H1697 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS to H413 PREP Isaiah H3470 , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
5 Go H1980 VQFA , and say H559 to H413 PREP Hezekiah H2396 , Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS , the God H430 CDP of David H1732 MMS thy father H1 NMS , I have heard H8085 VQQ1MS thy prayer H8605 , I have seen H7200 VQQ1MS thy tears H1832 : behold H2009 , I will add H3254 unto H5921 PREP thy days H3117 CMP-2MS fifteen H2568 BFS years H8141 NFS .
6 And I will deliver H5337 thee and this H2063 D-DFS city H5892 D-GFS out of the hand H3709 of the king H4428 NMS of Assyria H804 GFS : and I will defend H1598 this H2063 city H5892 D-GFS .
7 And this H2088 W-PMS shall be a sign H226 unto thee from the LORD H3068 EDS , that H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS will do H6213 VQY3MS this H2088 D-PMS thing H1697 D-NMS that H834 RPRO he hath spoken H1696 ;
8 Behold H2009 , I will bring again H7725 VHPMS the shadow H6738 NMS of the degrees H4609 , which H834 RPRO is gone down H3381 in the sun H8121 dial H4609 of Ahaz H271 , ten H6235 MFS degrees H4609 backward H322 ADV . So the sun H8121 D-NMS returned H7725 W-VQY3FS ten H6235 MFS degrees H4609 , by which H834 RPRO degrees H4609 it was gone down H3381 .
9 The writing H4385 of Hezekiah H2396 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 , when he had been sick H2470 , and was recovered H2421 W-VQY3MS of his sickness H2483 :
10 I H589 PPRO-1MS said H559 VQQ1MS in the cutting off H1824 of my days H3117 CMS-1MS , I shall go H1980 to the gates H8179 of the grave H7585 NMS : I am deprived H6485 of the residue H3499 of my years H8141 .
11 I said H559 VQQ1MS , I shall not H3808 NADV see H7200 VQY1MS the LORD H3050 , even the LORD H3050 , in the land H776 B-GFS of the living H2416 : I shall behold H5027 man H120 NMS no H3808 NADV more H5750 ADV with H5973 PREP the inhabitants H3427 of the world H2309 .
12 Mine age H1755 is departed H5265 VNQ3MS , and is removed H1540 from H4480 PREP-1MS me as a shepherd H7473 \'s tent H168 : I have cut off H7088 like a weaver H707 my life H2416 CMS-1MS : he will cut me off H1214 with pining sickness H1803 : from day H3117 M-NMS even to H5704 PREP night H3915 GMS wilt thou make an end H7999 of me .
13 I reckoned H7737 till H5704 PREP morning H1242 NMS , that , as a lion H738 , so H3651 ADV will he break H7665 all H3605 NMS my bones H6106 : from day H3117 M-NMS even to H5704 PREP night H3915 GMS wilt thou make an end H7999 of me .
14 Like a crane H5483 or a swallow H5693 , so H3651 ADV did I chatter H6850 : I did mourn H1897 as a dove H3123 : mine eyes H5869 CMD-1MS fail H1809 VQQ3MP with looking upward H4791 : O LORD H136 EDS , I am oppressed H6234 ; undertake H6149 for me .
15 What H4100 IGAT shall I say H1696 VPY1MS ? he hath both spoken H559 unto me , and himself H1931 W-PPRO-3MS hath done H6213 VQQ3MS it : I shall go softly H1718 all H3605 CMS my years H8141 in H5921 PREP the bitterness H4751 AMS of my soul H5315 CFS-1MS .
16 O Lord H136 EDS , by H5921 PREP-3MP these things men live H2421 , and in all H3605 these H2004 things is the life H2416 of my spirit H7307 CFS-1MS : so wilt thou recover H2492 me , and make me to live H2421 .
17 Behold H2009 IJEC , for peace H7965 I had great bitterness H4751 AMS : but thou H859 W-PPRO-2MS hast in love H2836 to my soul H5315 CFS-1MS delivered it from the pit H7845 M-CFS of corruption H1097 ADV : for H3588 CONJ thou hast cast H7993 all H3605 NMS my sins H2399 behind H310 PREP thy back H1460 .
18 For H3588 CONJ the grave H7585 NMS cannot H3808 NADV praise H3034 thee , death H4194 NMS can not celebrate H1984 thee : they that go down H3381 into the pit H953 cannot H3808 ADV hope H7663 for H413 PREP thy truth H571 .
19 The living H2416 AMS , the living H2416 AMS , he H1931 PPRO-3MS shall praise H3034 thee , as I do this day H3117 D-AMS : the father H1 NMS to the children H1121 shall make known H3045 thy truth H571 .
20 The LORD H3068 EDS was ready to save H3467 me : therefore we will sing my songs H5059 to the stringed instruments H5058 all H3605 NMS the days H3117 CMP of our life H2416 in H5921 PREP the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
21 For Isaiah H3470 had said H559 W-VQY3MS , Let them take H5375 VQY3MP a lump H1690 of figs H8384 , and lay it for a plaster H4799 upon H5921 PREP the boil H7822 , and he shall recover H2421 .
22 Hezekiah H2396 also had said H559 W-VQY3MS , What H4100 IGAT is the sign H226 NMS that H3588 CONJ I shall go up H5927 to the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS ?
