Job 34:1 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 Then Elihu continued his speech:
2 "Listen to what I say, you wise men. Pay attention, you who know so much.
3 Your tongue tastes the food it touches, and your ear tests the words it hears.
4 So let us test these arguments and decide for ourselves what is right. Together we will learn what is good.
5 Job says, 'I am innocent, and God is not being fair to me.
6 I am right, but I am judged to be a liar. I have done no wrong, but I am badly hurt.'
7 "Would anyone but Job say such things? He has more thirst for insulting God than for water.
8 He is a friend of evil people. He likes to spend time with the wicked.
9 I know this because he says, 'You will gain nothing if you try to please God.'
10 "You men can understand, so listen to me. God would never do what is evil! God All-Powerful would never do wrong.
11 He pays us back for what we have done. He gives us what we deserve.
12 The truth is that God does no wrong. God All-Powerful is always fair.
13 No one chose God to be in charge of the earth. No one gave him responsibility for the whole world.
14 If God decided to take away his spirit and the breath of life he gave us,
15 then everything on earth would die. We would all become dust again.
16 "If you men are wise, you will listen to what I say.
17 Can someone be a ruler if he hates justice? Job, God is not only powerful, but he is fair. Do you think you can judge him guilty?
18 God is the one who says to kings, 'You are worthless!' He says to leaders, 'You are evil!'
19 He does not respect leaders more than other people. And he does not respect the rich more than the poor. God made everyone.
20 Any of us can die suddenly, in the middle of the night. Anyone can get sick and pass away. Even powerful people die for no reason we can see.
21 "God watches what people do. He sees every step they take.
22 There is no place dark enough for evil people to hide from God.
23 God does not need to set a time for people to come before him and be judged.
24 He does not have to ask questions when people do wrong, even if they are powerful leaders. He simply destroys them and chooses others to take their place.
25 When he learns what people have done, he defeats them, and overnight they are gone.
26 He will punish them for the evil they have done, and he will do it where everyone can see.
27 He will do this because they rebelled against him and ignored what he wanted.
28 They hurt the poor and made them cry to God for help. And he hears their cry!
29 But if God decides not to help them, no one can judge him guilty. If he hides himself, no one can find him. He is the ruler over every person and nation.
30 And if a ruler causes people to sin, God will remove him from power.
31 "But what if someone says to God, 'I am guilty; I will not sin anymore'?
32 What if that person says, 'Show me the sins I am not able to see. If I have done wrong, I will not do it again'?
33 Job, you want God to reward you, but you refuse to change. It is your decision, not mine. Tell me what you think.
34 A wise person would listen to me. A wise person would say,
35 'Job talks like an ignorant person. What he says doesn't make sense!'
36 I think Job should be punished even more, because he answers us like someone who is evil!
37 He adds rebellion to his other sins. He sits there insulting us and arguing with God!"
1 Furthermore Elihu H453 EMS answered H6030 W-VQY3MS and said H559 W-VQY3MS ,
2 Hear H8085 VQI2MP my words H4405 CFP-1MS , O ye wise H2450 AMP men ; and give ear H238 VHI2MP unto me , ye that have knowledge H3045 W-VQPMP .
3 For H3588 CONJ the ear H241 NFS trieth H974 VQY3FS words H4405 NFP , as the mouth H2441 W-NMS tasteth H2938 VQY3MS meat H398 L-VQFC .
4 Let us choose H977 VQI1MP to us judgment H4941 NMS : let us know H3045 VQI1MP among H996 B-PREP-3MS ourselves what H4100 IPRO is good H2896 NMS .
5 For H3588 CONJ Job H347 EMS hath said H559 VQQ3MS , I am righteous H6663 VQQ1MS : and God H410 W-NMS hath taken away H5493 VHQ3MS my judgment H4941 CMS-1MS .
6 Should I lie H3576 VPY1MS against H5921 PREP my right H4941 CMS-1MS ? my wound H2671 CMS-1MS is incurable H605 VWPMS without H1097 ADV transgression H6588 NMS .
7 What H4310 IPRO man H1397 NMS is like Job H347 K-EMS , who drinketh up H8354 VQY3MS scorning H3933 NMS like water H4325 KD-NMP ?
8 Which goeth H732 W-VQQ3MS in company H2274 L-NFS with H5973 PREP the workers H6466 VQCMP of iniquity H205 NMS , and walketh H1980 WL-VQFC with H5973 PREP wicked H7562 NMS men H376 CMP .
9 For H3588 CONJ he hath said H559 VQQ3MS , It profiteth H5532 VQY3MS a man H1397 NMS nothing H3808 NADV that he should delight H7521 B-VQFC-3MS himself with H5973 PREP God H430 NAME-4MP .
10 Therefore H3651 L-ADV hearken H8085 VQI2MP unto me , ye men H376 CMP of understanding H3824 NMS : far be it H2486 IJEC-3FS from God H410 L-NMS , that he should do wickedness H7562 M-NMS ; and from the Almighty H7706 W-EDS , that he should commit iniquity H5766 M-NMS .
11 For H3588 CONJ the work H6467 CMS of a man H120 NMS shall he render H7999 VPY3MS unto him , and cause every man H376 NMS to find H4672 VHY3MS-3MS according to his ways H734 WK-CMS .
12 Yea H637 CONJ , surely H551 CONJ God H410 EDS will not H3808 ADV do wickedly H7561 VHY3MS , neither H3808 ADV will the Almighty H7706 W-EDS pervert H5791 VPY3MS judgment H4941 NMS .
13 Who H4310 W-IPRO hath given him a charge H6485 VQQ3MS over the earth H776 NFS-3FS ? or who H4310 W-IPRO hath disposed H7760 VQQ3MS the whole H3605 CMS-3FS world H8398 NFS ?
14 If H518 PART he set H7760 VQY3MS his heart H3820 CMS-3MS upon H413 PREP-3MS man , if he gather H622 VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS himself his spirit H7307 CMS-3MS and his breath H5397 W-CFS-3MS ;
15 All H3605 NMS flesh H1320 NMS shall perish H1478 VQY3MS together H3162 ADV , and man H120 W-NMS shall turn again H7725 VQY3MS unto H5921 PREP dust H6083 NMS .
16 If H518 W-PART now thou hast understanding H998 NFS , hear H8085 VQI2MS-3FS this H2063 DPRO-3FS : hearken H238 VHI2MS-3FS to the voice H6963 L-CMS of my words H4405 CFP-1MS .
17 Shall even H637 CONJ he that hateth H8130 VQCMS right H4941 NMS govern H2280 VQY3MS ? and wilt thou condemn H7561 VHY2MS him that is most H3524 AMS just H6662 AMS ?
18 Is it fit to say H559 VQFC to a king H4428 L-CMS , Thou art wicked H1100 NMS ? and to H413 PREP princes H5081 AMP , Ye are ungodly H7563 AMS ?
19 How much less to him that H834 RPRO accepteth H5375 VQQ3MS not H3808 ADV the persons H6440 CMP of princes H8269 NMP , nor H3808 W-NADV regardeth H5234 VPQ3MS the rich H7771 NMS more than H6440 CMP the poor H1800 JMS ? for H3588 CONJ they all H3605 CMS-3MP are the work H4639 M-CMS of his hands H3027 CFD-3MS .
20 In a moment H7281 NMS shall they die H4191 VQY3MP , and the people H5971 NMS shall be troubled H1607 VUY3MP at midnight H2676 W-CFS , and pass away H5674 W-VQY3MP : and the mighty H47 JMS shall be taken away H5493 W-VHY3MP without H3808 NADV hand H3027 B-NFS .
21 For H3588 CONJ his eyes H5869 CMD-3MS are upon H5921 PREP the ways H1870 CMD-1MS of man H376 NMS , and he seeth H7200 VQY3MS all H3605 W-CMS his goings H6806 CMP-3MS .
22 There is no H369 ADV darkness H2822 NMS , nor H369 W-NPAR shadow of death H6757 NMS , where H8033 ADV the workers H6466 VQCMP of iniquity H205 NMS may hide themselves H5641 L-VNFC .
23 For H3588 CONJ he will not H3808 NADV lay H7760 VQY3MS upon H5921 PREP man H376 NMS more H5750 ADV than right ; that he should enter H1980 L-VQFC into judgment H4941 BD-NMS with H413 PREP God H410 EDS .
24 He shall break in pieces H7489 VQY3MS mighty men H3524 AMP without H3808 NADV number H2714 NMS , and set H5975 W-VHY3MS others H312 AMP in their stead H8478 PREP-3MP .
25 Therefore H3651 L-ADV he knoweth H5234 VHY3MS their works H4566 CMP-3MP , and he overturneth H2015 W-VQQ3MS them in the night H3915 GMS , so that they are destroyed H1792 W-VHQ3MP .
26 He striketh H5606 VQQ3MS-3MP them as H8478 PREP wicked men H7563 AMP in the open H4725 B-CMS sight H7200 VQPMP of others ;
27 Because H3651 ADV they turned back H5493 VQQ3MP from M-ADV-3MS him , and would not H3808 NADV consider H7919 VHQ3MP any H3605 W-CMS of his ways H1870 CMP-3MS :
28 So that they cause the cry H6818 CFS of the poor H1800 CMS to come H935 L-VHFC unto H5921 PREP-3MS him , and he heareth H8085 VQY3MS the cry H6818 W-CFS of the afflicted H6041 AMP .
29 When he H1931 W-PPRO-3MS giveth quietness H8252 VHY3MS , who H4310 W-IPRO then can make trouble H7561 VHY3MS ? and when he hideth H5641 W-VHI3MS his face H6440 NMP , who H4310 W-IPRO then can behold H7789 VQY3MS-3MS him ? whether it be done against H5921 W-PREP a nation H1471 NMS , or against H5921 W-PREP a man H120 NMS only H3162 ADV :
30 That the hypocrite H120 NMS reign not H4427 M-VQFC , lest the people H5971 NMS be ensnared H4170 M-CMP .
31 Surely it is meet H3588 CONJ to be said H559 VQQ3MS unto H413 PREP God H410 EDS , I have borne H5375 VQQ1MS chastisement , I will not H3808 NADV offend H2254 VQY1MS any more :
32 That which I see H2372 VQY1MS not H1107 PREP teach H3384 VHIMS-1MS thou H859 PPRO-2MS me : if H518 PART I have done H6466 VQQ1MS iniquity H5766 NMS , I will do H3254 VHY1MS no H3808 NADV more .
33 Should it be according to thy mind H5973 IM-PREP-2MS ? he will recompense H7999 VPY3MS-3FS it , whether H3588 CONJ thou refuse H3988 VQQ2MS , or whether H3588 CONJ thou H859 PPRO-2MS choose H977 VQY2MS ; and not H3808 W-NPAR I H589 PPRO-1MS : therefore speak H1696 VPI2MS what H4100 W-IGAT thou knowest H3045 VQQ2MS .
34 Let men H376 of understanding H3824 NMS tell H559 VQY3MP me , and let a wise H2450 AMS man H1397 W-NMS hearken H8085 VQPMS unto me .
35 Job H347 EMS hath spoken H1696 VPY3MS without H3808 NADV knowledge H1847 B-NFS , and his words H1697 W-CMP-3MS were without H3808 NADV wisdom H7919 B-VHFC .
36 My desire H15 IJEC is that Job H347 EMS may be tried H974 VNY3MS unto H5704 PREP the end H5331 NMS because H5921 PREP of his answers H8666 NFP for wicked H205 NMS men H376 B-CMP .
37 For H3588 CONJ he addeth H3254 VHY3MS rebellion H6588 NMS unto H5921 PREP his sin H2403 CFS-3MS , he clappeth H5606 VQY3MS his hands among H996 PREP-1MP us , and multiplieth H7235 W-VHI3MS his words H561 CMP-3MS against God H410 L-NMS .
