Esther 2:23 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 Later, King Xerxes stopped being angry. Then he remembered Vashti and what she had done. He remembered his commands about her.
2 Then the king's personal servants had a suggestion. They said, "Search for beautiful young virgins for the king.
3 Let the king choose leaders in every province of his kingdom. Then let the leaders bring every beautiful young virgin to the capital city of Susa. These young women will be put with the group of the king's women. They will be under the care of Hegai, the king's eunuch, who is in charge of the women. Then give beauty treatments to all of them.
4 Then let the one who is pleasing to the king become the new queen in Vashti's place." The king liked this suggestion, so he accepted it.
5 Now there was a Jew from the tribe of Benjamin named Mordecai. Mordecai was the son of Jair, and Jair was the son of Shimei, and Shimei was the son of Kish. Mordecai was in the capital city, Susa.
6 Mordecai had been carried into captivity from Jerusalem by King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. He was with the group that was taken into captivity with King Jehoiachin of Judah.
7 Mordecai had a cousin named Hadassah. She didn't have a father or a mother, so Mordecai took care of her. Mordecai had adopted her as his own daughter when her father and mother died. Hadassah was also called Esther. She had a very pretty face and a good figure.
8 When the king's command had been heard, many young women were brought to the capital city of Susa. They were put under the care of Hegai. Esther was one of these women. She was taken to the king's palace and put into Hegai's care. Hegai was in charge of the king's women.
9 He liked Esther. She became his favorite, so he quickly gave Esther beauty treatments and special food. He chose seven slave women from the king's palace and gave them to Esther. Then he moved Esther and her seven women servants into the best place where the king's women lived.
10 Esther didn't tell anyone she was a Jew. She didn't tell anyone about her family background, because Mordecai had told her not to.
11 Every day Mordecai walked back and forth near the area where the king's women lived. He did this because he wanted to find out how Esther was, and what was happening to her.
12 Before a young woman could take her turn to go in before King Xerxes, she had to complete twelve months of beauty treatments— six months with oil of myrrh and six months with perfumes and cosmetics.
13 When her time came to go in to the king, she could choose to wear or take with her whatever she wanted from women's living area.
14 In the evening the young woman would go to the king's palace. And in the morning she would return to another area where the king's women lived. Then she would be placed under the care of a man named Shaashgaz. He was the king's eunuch in charge of the slave women. She would not go back to the king again unless he was pleased with her. Then he would call her by name to come back to him.
15 The time came for Esther to go in to the king. She was the one Mordecai had adopted, the daughter of his uncle Abihail. All she wanted to take with her was what Hegai, the king's eunuch in charge of the women, suggested. Everyone who saw Esther liked her.
16 So Esther was taken to King Xerxes in the palace. This happened in the tenth month, the month of Tebeth, in the seventh year of his rule.
17 The king loved Esther more than any of the other young women, and she became his favorite. He approved of her more than any of the others. So King Xerxes put a crown on Esther's head and made her the new queen in place of Vashti.
18 And the king gave a big party for Esther. It was for all his important people and leaders. He announced a festival in all the provinces and sent out gifts to people, because he was a generous king.
19 Mordecai was sitting next to the king's gate at the time the young women were gathered together the second time.
20 Esther had still kept it a secret that she was a Jew. She had not told anyone about her family background. This is what Mordecai had told her to do. She still obeyed Mordecai just as she had done when he was taking care of her.
21 During the time Mordecai was sitting next to the king's gate, this happened: Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's officers who guarded the doorway, became angry with the king. They began to make plans to kill King Xerxes.
22 But Mordecai learned about these plans and told Queen Esther. Then she told the king. She also told him that Mordecai was the one who had learned about the evil plan.
23 Then the report was checked out. It was learned that Mordecai's report was true. The two guards who had planned to kill the king were hanged on a post. All these things were written down in a book of the king's histories in front of the king.

3 And let the king H4428 D-NMS appoint H6485 officers H6496 in all H3605 NMS the provinces H4082 of his kingdom H4438 CFP-3MS , that they may gather together H6908 all H3605 NMS the fair H2896 young H5291 virgins H1330 unto H413 PREP Shushan H7800 the palace H1002 , to H413 PREP the house H1004 CMS of the women H802 D-NFP , unto H413 PREP the custody H3027 CFS of Hege H1896 the king H4428 D-NMS \'s chamberlain H5631 , keeper H8104 of the women H802 D-NFP ; and let their things for purification H8562 be given H5414 them :
4 And let the maiden H5291 which H834 RPRO pleaseth H3190 the king H4428 D-NMS be queen H4427 instead H8478 NMS of Vashti H2060 . And the thing H1697 D-NMS pleased H3190 the king H4428 D-NMS ; and he did H6213 W-VQY3MS so H3651 ADV .
5 Now in Shushan H7800 the palace H1002 there was H1961 VQQ3MS a certain H376 NMS Jew H3064 , whose name H8034 was Mordecai H4782 , the son H1121 of Jair H2971 , the son H1121 of Shimei H8096 , the son H1121 of Kish H7027 , a Benjamite H1145 ;
6 Who H834 RPRO had been carried away H1540 from Jerusalem H3389 with H5973 PREP the captivity H1473 which H834 RPRO had been carried away H1540 with H5973 PREP Jeconiah H3204 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 , whom H834 RPRO Nebuchadnezzar H5019 the king H4428 NMS of Babylon H894 had carried away H1540 .
7 And he brought up H1961 W-VQY3MS Hadassah H1919 , that H1931 PPRO-3FS is , Esther H635 , his uncle H1730 \'s daughter H1323 CFS : for H3588 CONJ she had neither H369 NPAR father H1 NMS nor mother H517 , and the maid H5291 was fair H3303 CFS and beautiful H2896 ; whom Mordecai H4782 , when her father H1 and mother H517 were dead H4194 , took H3947 for his own daughter H1323 .

9 And the maiden H5291 pleased H3190 him , and she obtained H5375 kindness H2617 NMS of H6440 L-CMP-3MS him ; and he speedily H926 gave H5414 L-VQFC her her things for purification H8562 , with H854 such things as belonged H4490 to her , and seven H7651 MFS maidens H5291 , which were meet H7200 to be given H5414 her , out of the king\'s house H1004 : and he preferred H8138 her and her maids H5291 unto the best H2896 place of the house H1004 CMS of the women H802 .
10 Esther H635 had not H3808 NADV showed H5046 her people H5971 nor her kindred H4138 : for H3588 CONJ Mordecai H4782 had charged H6680 VPQ3MS her H5921 PREP-3FS that H834 RPRO she should not H3808 NADV show H5046 it .

14 In the evening H6153 she H1931 PPRO-3FS went H935 , and on the morrow H1242 she H1931 PPRO-3FS returned H7725 into H413 PREP the second H8145 house H1004 CMS of the women H802 D-NFP , to H413 PREP the custody H3027 CFS of Shaashgaz H8190 , the king H4428 D-NMS \'s chamberlain H5631 , which kept H8104 the concubines H6370 : she came in H935 VQY3FS unto H413 PREP the king H4428 D-NMS no H3808 NADV more H5750 ADV , except H518 PART the king H4428 D-NMS delighted H2654 in her , and that she were called H7121 by name H8034 .
15 Now when the turn H8447 of Esther H635 , the daughter H1323 CFS of Abihail H32 the uncle H1730 of Mordecai H4782 , who H834 RPRO had taken H3947 her for his daughter H1323 , was come H5060 to go in H935 L-VQFC unto H413 PREP the king H4428 D-NMS , she required H1245 nothing H3808 NADV but H518 PART what H834 RPRO Hegai H1896 the king H4428 D-NMS \'s chamberlain H5631 , the keeper H8104 of the women H802 D-NFP , appointed H559 VQY3MS . And Esther H635 obtained H5375 favor H2580 NMS in the sight H5869 B-CMP of all H3605 NMS them that looked H7200 upon her .
16 So Esther H635 was taken H3947 unto H413 PREP king H4428 D-NMS Ahasuerus H325 into H413 PREP his house H1004 CMS royal H4438 CFP-3MS in the tenth H6224 month H2320 BD-NMS , which H1931 PPRO-3MS is the month H2320 Tebeth H2887 , in the seventh H7651 MFS year H8141 B-CFS of his reign H4438 CFP-3MS .
17 And the king H4428 D-NMS loved H157 Esther H635 above all H3605 M-CMS the women H802 D-NFP , and she obtained H5375 grace H2580 NMS and favor H2617 W-NMS in his sight H6440 L-CMP-3MS more than all H3605 M-CMS the virgins H1330 ; so that he set H7760 W-VQY3MS the royal H4438 CFP crown H3804 upon her head H7218 , and made her queen H4427 instead H8478 NMS of Vashti H2060 .
18 Then the king H4428 D-NMS made H6213 W-VQY3MS a great H1419 feast H4960 NMS unto all H3605 L-CMS his princes H8269 CMP-3MS and his servants H5650 W-CMS-3MS , even Esther H635 \'s feast H4960 ; and he made H6213 W-VQY3MS a release H2010 to the provinces H4082 , and gave H5414 W-VQQ3MS gifts H4864 , according to the state H3027 of the king H4428 .
19 And when the virgins H1330 were gathered together H6908 the second time H8145 CFS , then Mordecai H4782 sat H3427 VQPMS in the king H4428 \'s gate H8179 .
20 Esther H635 had not H369 NPAR yet showed H5046 her kindred H4138 nor her people H5971 ; as H834 K-RPRO Mordecai H4782 had charged H6680 VPQ3MS her H5921 PREP-3FS : for Esther H635 did H6213 the commandment H3982 of Mordecai H4782 , like as H834 K-RPRO when she was H1961 VQQ3FS brought up H545 with H854 PREP-3MS him .
21 In those H1992 D-PPRO-3MP days H3117 BD-NMP , while Mordecai H4782 sat H3427 VQPMS in the king H4428 D-NMS \'s gate H8179 , two H8147 of the king H4428 D-NMS \'s chamberlains H5631 , Bigthan H904 and Teresh H8657 , of those which kept H8104 the door H5592 , were wroth H7107 , and sought H1245 to lay H7971 hand H3027 NFS on the king H4428 Ahasuerus H325 .
22 And the thing H1697 D-NMS was known H3045 to Mordecai H4782 , who told H5046 W-VHY3MS it unto Esther H635 the queen H4436 ; and Esther H635 certified H559 W-VQY3FS the king H4428 thereof in Mordecai H4782 \'s name H8034 B-CMS .
23 And when inquisition was made H1245 of the matter H1697 D-NMS , it was found out H4672 ; therefore they were both H8147 ONUM-3MP hanged H8518 on H5921 PREP a tree H6086 NMS : and it was written H3789 in the book H5612 of the chronicles H1697 CMP before H6440 L-CMP the king H4428 .
