Acts 12:5 (KJV) King James Version

1 Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.
2 And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.
3 And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)
4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.
5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.
6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.
7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.
8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.
9 And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.
10 When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.
11 And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.
12 And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.
13 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.
14 And when she knew Peter’s voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate.
15 And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.
16 But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.
17 But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.
18 Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter.
19 And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judaea to Caesarea, and there abode.
20 And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king’s chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king’s country.
21 And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.
22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.
23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.
24 But the word of God grew and multiplied.
25 And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministry, and took with them John, whose surname was Mark.

3 And G2532 CONJ because he saw G1492 V-2AAP-NSM it G3754 CONJ pleased G701 A-NSN the G3588 T-DPM Jews G2453 A-DPM , he proceeded further G4369 V-2AMI-3S to take G4815 V-2AAN Peter G4074 N-ASM also G2532 CONJ . 6 And G1161 CONJ when G3753 ADV Herod G2264 N-NSM would G3195 V-IAI-3S have brought him forth V-PAN , the G3588 T-NSM same G3588 T-DSF night G3571 N-DSF Peter G4074 N-NSM was G2258 V-IXI-3S sleeping G2837 V-PPP-NSM between G3342 ADV two G1417 A-NUI soldiers G4757 N-GPM , bound G1210 V-RPP-NSM with two G1417 A-DPF chains G254 N-DPF : and G5037 PRT the keepers G5441 N-NPM before G4253 PREP the G3588 T-GSF door G2374 N-GSF kept G5083 V-IAI-3P the G3588 T-ASF prison G5438 N-ASF .
7 And G2532 CONJ , behold G2400 V-2AAM-2S , the angel G32 N-NSM of the Lord G2962 N-GSM came upon G2186 V-2AAI-3S him , and G2532 CONJ a light G5457 N-NSN shined G2989 V-AAI-3S in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSN prison G3612 N-DSN : and G1161 CONJ he G3588 T-GSM smote G3960 V-AAP-NSM Peter G4074 N-GSM on the G3588 T-ASF side G4125 N-ASF , and raised him up G1453 V-AAI-3S , saying G3004 V-PAP-NSM , Arise up G450 V-2AAM-2S quickly G1722 PREP . 9 And G2532 CONJ he went out G1831 V-2AAP-NSM , and followed G190 V-IAI-3S him G846 P-DSM ; and G2532 CONJ wist G1492 V-LAI-3S not G3756 PRT-N that G3754 CONJ it was G2076 V-PXI-3S true G227 A-NSN which was done G1096 V-PNP-NSN by G1223 PREP the G3588 T-GSM angel G32 N-GSM ; but G1161 CONJ thought G1380 V-IAI-3S he saw G991 V-PAN a vision G3705 N-ASN .

13 And G1161 CONJ as Peter G4074 N-GSM knocked G2925 V-AAP-GSM at the G3588 T-ASF door G2374 N-ASF of G3588 T-GSM the G3588 T-GSM gate G4440 N-GSM , a damsel G3814 N-NSF came G4334 V-2AAI-3S to hearken G5219 V-AAN , named G3686 N-DSN Rhoda G4498 N-NSF .
14 And G2532 CONJ when she G3588 T-GSM knew G1921 V-2AAP-NSF Peter G4074 N-GSM \'s voice G5456 N-ASF , she opened G455 V-AAI-3S not G3756 PRT-N the G3588 T-ASM gate G4440 N-ASM for G3588 T-GSF gladness G5479 N-GSF , but G1161 CONJ ran in G1532 V-2AAP-NSF , and told G518 V-AAI-3S how Peter G4074 N-ASM stood G2476 V-RAN before G4253 PREP the G3588 T-GSM gate G4440 N-GSM .

18 Now G1161 CONJ as soon as it was G1096 V-2ADP-GSF day G2250 N-GSF , there was G2258 V-IXI-3S no G3756 PRT-N small G3641 A-NSM stir G5017 N-NSM among G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DPM soldiers G4757 N-DPM , what G5101 I-NSN was G686 become G1096 V-2ADI-3S of Peter G4074 N-NSM .
19 And G1161 CONJ when Herod G2264 N-NSM had sought for G1934 V-AAP-NSM him G846 P-ASM , and G2532 CONJ found G2147 V-2AAP-NSM him not G3361 PRT-N , he examined G350 V-AAP-NSM the G3588 T-APM keepers G5441 N-APM , and commanded G2753 V-AAI-3S that they should be put to death G520 V-APN . 23 And G1161 CONJ immediately G3916 ADV the angel G32 N-NSM of the Lord G2962 N-GSM smote G3960 V-AAI-3S him G846 P-ASM , because G473 PREP he gave G1325 V-AAI-3S not G3756 PRT-N God G2316 N-DSM the G3588 T-DSM glory G1391 N-ASF : and G2532 CONJ he was G1096 V-2ADP-NSM eaten of worms G4662 A-NSM , and gave up the ghost G1634 V-AAI-3S .

25 And G1161 CONJ Barnabas G921 N-NSM and G2532 CONJ Saul G4569 N-NSM returned G5290 V-AAI-3P from G1537 Jerusalem G2419 N-PRI , when they G3588 T-ASF had fulfilled G4137 V-AAP-NPM their ministry G1248 N-ASF , and G2532 CONJ took with G4838 V-2AAP-NPM them John G2491 N-ASM , whose surname was G1941 V-APP-ASM Mark G3138 N-ASM .
