John 4:3 (KJV) King James Version

1 When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,
2 (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)
3 He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee.
4 And he must needs go through Samaria.
5 Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
6 Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.
7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.
8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)
9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.
16 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.
17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:
18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.
19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.
20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.
22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.
26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.
27 And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?
28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,
29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?
30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.
31 In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.
32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.
33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?
34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.
37 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.
38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.
39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.
40 So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.
41 And many more believed because of his own word;
42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.
43 Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.
44 For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.
45 Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.
46 So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.
47 When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.
48 Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.
49 The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.
50 Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.
51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth.
52 Then enquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.
53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.
54 This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.

7 There cometh G2064 V-PNI-3S a woman G1135 N-NSF of G3588 T-GSF Samaria G4540 N-GSF to draw G501 V-AAN water G5204 N-ASN : Jesus G2424 N-NSM saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto her G846 P-DSF , Give G1325 V-2AAM-2S me G3427 P-1DS to drink G4095 V-2AAN .

11 The G3588 T-NSF woman G1135 N-NSF saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Sir G2962 N-VSM , thou hast G2192 V-PAI-2S nothing G3777 CONJ to draw G502 N-ASN with , and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSN well G5421 N-NSN is G2076 V-PXI-3S deep G901 A-NSN : from whence G4159 ADV-I then G3767 CONJ hast G2192 V-PAI-2S thou that G3588 T-ASN living G2198 V-PAP-ASN water G5204 N-ASN ?

17 The G3588 T-NSF woman G1135 N-NSF answered G611 V-ADI-3S and G2532 CONJ said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , I have G2192 V-PAI-1S no G3756 PRT-N husband G435 N-ASM . Jesus G2424 N-NSM said G3004 V-PAI-3S unto her G846 P-DSF , Thou hast well G2573 ADV said G2036 V-2AAI-2S , I have G2192 V-PAI-1S no G3756 PRT-N husband G435 N-ASM :

19 The G3588 T-NSF woman G1135 N-NSF saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Sir G2962 N-VSM , I perceive G2334 V-PAI-1S that G3754 CONJ thou G4771 P-2NS art G1488 V-PXI-2S a prophet G4396 N-NSM .
20 Our G3588 T-NPM fathers G3962 N-NPM worshiped G4352 V-AAI-3P in G1722 PREP this G3588 T-DSN mountain G3735 N-DSN ; and G2532 CONJ ye G5210 P-2NP say G3004 V-PAI-2P , that G3754 CONJ in G1722 PREP Jerusalem G2414 N-DPN is G2076 V-PXI-3S the G3588 T-NSM place G5117 N-NSM where G3699 ADV men ought G1163 V-PQI-3S to worship G4352 V-PAN .
21 Jesus G2424 N-NSM saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto her G846 P-DSF , Woman G1135 N-VSF , believe G4100 V-AAM-2S me G3427 P-1DS , the hour G5610 N-NSF cometh G2064 V-PNI-3S , when G3753 ADV ye shall neither G3777 CONJ in G1722 PREP this G3588 T-DSN mountain G3735 N-DSN , nor yet G3777 CONJ at G1722 PREP Jerusalem G2414 N-DPN , worship G4352 V-FAI-2P the G3588 T-DSM Father G3962 N-DSM .
22 Ye G5210 P-2NP worship G4352 V-PAI-2P ye know G1492 V-RAI-2P not G3756 PRT-N what G3739 R-ASN : we G2249 P-1NP know G1492 V-RAI-1P what G3739 R-ASN we worship G4352 V-PAI-1P : for G3588 T-NSF salvation G4991 N-NSF is G2076 V-PXI-3S of G1537 PREP the G3588 T-GPM Jews G2453 A-GPM .

25 The G3588 T-NSF woman G1135 N-NSF saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , I know G1492 V-RAI-1S that G3754 CONJ Messiah G3323 N-NSM cometh G2064 V-PNI-3S , which is called G3004 V-PPP-NSM Christ G5547 N-NSM : when G3752 CONJ he G1565 D-NSM is come G2064 V-2AAS-3S , he will tell G312 V-FAI-3S us G2254 P-1DP all things G3956 A-APN .
26 Jesus G2424 N-NSM saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto her G846 P-DSF , I G3588 T-NSM that speak G2980 V-PAP-NSM unto thee G4671 P-2DS am G1510 V-PXI-1S he .

30 Then G3767 they went G1831 V-2AAI-3P out of G1537 PREP the G3588 T-GSF city G4172 N-GSF , and G2532 CONJ came G2064 V-INI-3P unto G4314 PREP him G846 P-ASM .
31 In G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSM mean while G3342 ADV his disciples G3101 N-NPM prayed G2065 V-IAI-3P him G846 P-ASM , saying G3004 V-PAP-NPM , Master G4461 HEB , eat G5315 V-2AAM-2S .

33 Therefore G3767 CONJ said G3004 V-IAI-3P the G3588 T-NPM disciples G3101 N-NPM one to another G240 C-APM , Hath any man G3387 brought G5342 V-AAI-3S him G846 P-DSM aught to eat G5315 V-2AAN ?
34 Jesus G2424 N-NSM saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , My G1699 S-1NSN meat G1033 N-NSN is G2076 V-PXI-3S to G2443 CONJ do G4160 V-PAS-1S the G3588 T-ASN will G2307 N-ASN of G3588 T-GSM him that sent G3992 V-AAP-GSM me G3165 P-1AS , and G2532 CONJ to finish G5048 V-AAS-1S his G3588 T-ASN work G2041 N-ASN .

36 And G2532 CONJ he that reapeth G2325 V-PAP-NSM receiveth G2983 V-PAI-3S wages G3408 N-ASM , and G2532 CONJ gathereth G4863 V-PAI-3S fruit G2590 N-ASM unto G1519 PREP life G2222 N-ASF eternal G166 A-ASF : that G2443 CONJ both G2532 CONJ he that soweth G4687 V-PAP-NSM and G2532 CONJ he that reapeth G2325 V-PAP-NSM may rejoice G5463 V-PAS-3S together G3674 ADV .
37 And G1063 CONJ herein G1722 PREP is G2076 V-PXI-3S that G3588 T-NSM saying G3056 N-NSM true G228 A-NSM , One G243 A-NSM soweth G4687 V-PAP-NSM , and G2532 CONJ another G243 A-NSM reapeth G2325 V-PAP-NSM .
38 I G1473 P-1NS sent G649 V-AAI-1S you G5209 P-2AP to reap G2325 V-PAN that whereon G3739 R-ASN ye G5210 P-2NP bestowed no labor G2872 V-RAI-2P : other men G243 A-NPM labored G2872 V-RAI-3P , and G2532 CONJ ye G5210 P-2NP are entered G1525 V-2RAI-2P into G1519 PREP their G3588 T-ASM labors G2873 N-ASM .
39 And G1161 CONJ many G4183 A-NPM of G3588 T-GPM the G3588 T-GPM Samaritans G4541 N-GPM of G1537 PREP that G3588 T-GSF city G4172 N-GSF believed G4100 V-AAI-3P on G1519 PREP him G846 P-ASM for G1223 PREP the G3588 T-ASM saying G3056 N-ASM of G3588 T-GSF the G3588 T-GSF woman G1135 N-GSF , which testified G3140 V-PAP-GSF , He told G2036 V-2AAI-3S me G3427 P-1DS all G3956 A-APN that ever G3745 K-APN I did G4160 V-AAI-1S .
40 So G3767 CONJ when G5613 ADV the G3588 T-NPM Samaritans G4541 N-NPM were come G2064 V-2AAI-3P unto G4314 PREP him G846 P-ASM , they besought G2065 V-IAI-3P him G846 P-ASM that he would tarry G3306 V-AAN with G3844 PREP them G846 P-DPM : and G2532 CONJ he abode G3306 V-AAI-3S there G1563 ADV two G1417 A-NUI days G2250 N-APF .
41 And G2532 CONJ many G4183 A-DSM more G4119 A-NPM-C believed G4100 V-AAI-3P because G1223 PREP of G3588 T-ASM his G3588 T-ASM own G846 P-GSM word G3056 N-ASM ;
42 And G5037 PRT said G3004 V-IAI-3P unto the G3588 T-DSF woman G1135 N-DSF , Now G3765 ADV we believe G4100 V-PAI-1P , not because G1223 PREP of thy G4674 S-2ASF saying G2981 N-ASF : for G1063 CONJ we have heard G191 V-2RAI-1P him ourselves G846 P-NPM , and G2532 CONJ know G1492 V-RAI-1P that G3754 CONJ this G3778 D-NSM is G2076 V-PXI-3S indeed G230 ADV the G3588 T-NSM Christ G5547 N-NSM , the G3588 T-NSM Savior G4990 N-NSM of G3588 T-GSM the G3588 T-GSM world G2889 N-GSM .
43 Now G1161 CONJ after G3326 PREP two G1417 A-NUI days G2250 N-APF he departed G1831 V-2AAI-3S thence G1564 ADV , and G2532 CONJ went G565 V-2AAI-3S into G1519 PREP Galilee G1056 N-ASF .
44 For G3588 T-NSM Jesus G2424 N-NSM himself G846 P-NSM testified G3140 V-AAI-3S , that G3754 CONJ a prophet G4396 N-NSM hath G2192 V-PAI-3S no G3756 PRT-N honor G5092 N-ASF in G1722 PREP his own G2398 A-DSF country G3968 N-DSF .
