Luke 18:24 (KJV) King James Version

1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
2 Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:
3 And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
4 And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
5 Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
6 And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.
7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
15 And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them.
16 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
17 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.
18 And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
19 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.
20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
21 And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.
22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
23 And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
24 And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
25 For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
26 And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved?
27 And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.
28 Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee.
29 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God’s sake,
30 Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.
31 Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.
32 For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on:
33 And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.
34 And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.
35 And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging:
36 And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.
37 And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by.
38 And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
39 And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
40 And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him,
41 Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.
42 And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.
43 And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.

3 And G1161 CONJ there was G2258 V-IXI-3S a widow G5503 N-NSF in G1722 PREP that G3588 T-DSF city G4172 N-DSF ; and G2532 CONJ she came G2064 V-INI-3S unto G4314 PREP him G846 P-ASM , saying G3004 V-PAP-NSF , Avenge G1556 V-AAM-2S me G3165 P-1AS of G575 PREP mine G3588 T-GSM adversary G476 N-GSM .
4 And G2532 CONJ he would G2309 V-AAI-3S not G3756 PRT-N for a while G1909 PREP : but G1161 CONJ afterward G3326 PREP he said G2036 V-2AAI-3S within G1722 PREP himself G1438 F-3DSM , Though G1499 I fear G5399 V-PNI-1S not G3756 PRT-N God G2316 N-ASM , nor G2532 CONJ regard G1788 V-PPI-1S man G444 N-ASM ;
5 Yet G1065 PRT because this G3588 T-ASF widow G5503 N-ASF troubleth G3930 V-PAN me G3427 P-1DS , I will avenge G1556 V-FAI-1S her G846 P-ASF , lest G3363 by her continual G1519 PREP coming G2064 V-PNP-NSF she weary G5299 V-PAS-3S me G3165 P-1AS .
6 And G1161 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM Lord G2962 N-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , Hear G191 V-AAM-2P what G5101 I-ASN the G3588 T-GSF unjust G93 N-GSF judge G2923 N-NSM saith G3004 V-PAI-3S .
7 And G1161 CONJ shall not G3364 God G2316 N-NSM avenge G4160 V-AAS-3S his G3588 T-GPM own G848 elect G1588 A-GPM , which cry G994 V-PAP-GPM day G2250 N-GSF and G2532 CONJ night G3571 N-GSF unto G4314 PREP him G846 P-GSM , though G2532 CONJ he bear long G3114 V-PAP-NSM with G1909 PREP them G846 P-ASM ?
8 I tell G3004 V-PAI-1S you G5213 P-2DP that G3754 CONJ he will avenge G4160 V-FAI-3S them G846 P-GPM speedily G1722 PREP . Nevertheless G4133 ADV when the G3588 T-NSM Son G5207 N-NSM of man G444 N-GSM cometh G2064 V-2AAP-NSM , shall G687 PRT-I he G3588 T-ASF find G2147 V-FAI-3S faith G4102 N-ASF on G1909 PREP the G3588 T-GSF earth G1093 N-GSF ?
9 And G1161 CONJ he spake G2036 V-2AAI-3S this G3588 T-ASF parable G3850 N-ASF unto G4314 PREP certain G5100 X-APM which trusted G3982 V-2RAP-APM in G1909 PREP themselves G1438 F-3DPM that G3754 CONJ they were G1526 V-PXI-3P righteous G1342 A-NPM , and G2532 CONJ despised G1848 V-PAP-APM others G3062 A-APM :
10 Two G1417 A-NUI men G444 N-NPM went up G305 V-2AAI-3P into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASN temple G2411 N-ASN to pray G4336 V-ADN ; the G3588 T-NSM one G1520 A-NSM a Pharisee G5330 N-NSM , and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM other G2087 A-NSM a publican G5057 N-NSM .
11 The G3588 T-NSM Pharisee G5330 N-NSM stood G2476 V-APP-NSM and prayed G4336 V-INI-3S thus G5023 D-APN with G4314 PREP himself G3588 T-NSM , God G2316 N-NSM , I thank G2168 V-PAI-1S thee G4671 P-2DS , that G3754 CONJ I am G1510 V-PXI-1S not G3756 PRT-N as G5618 ADV other G3588 T-GPM men G444 N-GPM are , extortioners G727 A-NPM , unjust G94 A-NPM , adulterers G3432 N-NPM , or G2228 PRT even G2532 CONJ as G5613 ADV this G3588 T-NSM publican G5057 N-NSM .
12 I fast G3522 V-PAI-1S twice G1364 ADV in the G3588 T-GSN week G4521 N-GSN , I give tithes G586 V-PAI-1S of all G3956 A-APN that G3745 K-APN I possess G2932 V-PNI-1S .
13 And G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM publican G5057 N-NSM , standing G2476 V-RAP-NSM afar off G3113 ADV , would G2309 V-IAI-3S not G3756 PRT-N lift up G1869 V-AAN so much as G3761 ADV his eyes G3778 unto G1519 PREP heaven G3772 N-ASM , but G235 CONJ smote G5180 V-IAI-3S upon G1519 PREP his G3588 T-ASN breast G4738 N-ASN , saying G3004 V-PAP-NSM , God G2316 N-NSM be merciful G2433 V-APM-2S to me G3588 T-DSM a sinner G268 A-DSM .
14 I tell G3004 V-PAI-1S you G5213 P-2DP , this man G3778 D-NSM went down G2597 V-2AAI-3S to G1519 PREP his G3588 T-ASM house G3624 N-ASM justified G1344 V-RPP-NSM rather than G2228 PRT the other G1565 D-NSM : for G3754 CONJ every one G3956 A-NSM that exalteth G5312 V-PAP-NSM himself G1438 F-3ASM shall be abased G5013 V-FPI-3S ; and G1161 CONJ he that humbleth G5013 V-PAP-NSM himself G1438 F-3ASM shall be exalted G5312 V-FPI-3S .
15 And G1161 CONJ they brought G4374 V-IAI-3P unto him G846 P-DSM also G2532 CONJ infants G1025 N-APN , that G2443 CONJ he would touch G680 V-PMS-3S them G846 P-GPN : but G1161 CONJ when his disciples G3101 N-NPM saw G1492 V-2AAP-NPM it , they rebuked G2008 V-AAI-3P them G846 P-DPM .
16 But G1161 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM called G4341 V-ADP-NSM them G846 P-APN unto him , and said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , Suffer G863 V-2AAM-2P little children G3813 N-APN to come G2064 V-PNN unto G4314 PREP me G3165 P-1AS , and G2532 CONJ forbid G2967 V-PAM-2P them G846 P-APN not G3361 PRT-N : for G1063 CONJ of such G5108 D-GPN is G2076 V-PXI-3S the G3588 T-NSF kingdom G932 N-NSF of God G2316 N-GSM .
17 Verily G281 HEB I say G3004 V-PAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , Whosoever G1437 COND shall not G3361 PRT-N receive G1209 V-ADS-3S the G3588 T-ASF kingdom G932 N-ASF of God G2316 N-GSM as G5613 ADV a little child G3813 N-NSN shall in no wise G3364 enter G1525 V-2AAS-3S therein G1519 PREP .
18 And G2532 CONJ a certain G5100 X-NSM ruler G758 N-NSM asked G1905 V-AAI-3S him G846 P-ASM , saying G3004 V-PAP-NSM , Good G18 A-VSM Master G1320 N-VSM , what G5101 I-ASN shall I do G4160 V-AAP-NSM to inherit G2816 V-AAS-1S eternal G166 A-ASF life G2222 N-ASF ?
19 And G1161 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Why G5101 I-ASN callest G3004 V-PAI-2S thou me G3165 P-1AS good G3762 A-NSM ? none G3762 A-NSM is good G18 A-ASM , save G1508 one G1520 A-NSM , that G3588 T-NSM is , God G2316 N-NSM .
20 Thou knowest G1492 V-RAI-2S the G3588 T-APF commandments G1785 N-APF , Do not G3361 PRT-N commit adultery G3431 V-AAS-2S , Do not G3361 PRT-N kill G5407 V-AAS-2S , Do not G3361 PRT-N steal G2813 V-AAS-2S , Do not G3361 PRT-N bear false witness G5576 V-AAS-2S , Honor G5091 V-PAM-2S thy G3588 T-ASM father G3962 N-ASM and G2532 CONJ thy G3588 T-ASF mother G3384 N-ASF .
21 And G1161 CONJ he G3588 T-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , All G3956 A-APN these G5023 D-APN have I kept G5442 V-AMI-1S from G1537 PREP my G3450 P-1GS youth G3503 N-GSF up .

24 And G1161 CONJ when Jesus G2424 N-NSM saw G1492 V-2AAP-NSM that he G846 P-ASM was G1096 V-2ADP-ASM very sorrowful G4036 A-ASM , he said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , How G4459 ADV hardly G1423 ADV shall they G3588 T-APN that G3588 T-APN have G2192 V-PAP-NPM riches G5536 N-APN enter G1525 V-FDI-3P into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASF kingdom G932 N-ASF of God G2316 N-GSM !
25 For G1063 CONJ it is G2076 V-PXI-3S easier G2123 A-NSN-C for a camel G2574 N-ASM to go G1525 V-2AAN through G1223 PREP a needle G4476 N-GSF \'s eye G5168 N-GSF , than G2228 PRT for a rich man G4145 A-ASM to enter G1525 V-2AAN into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASF kingdom G932 N-ASF of God G2316 N-GSM .
26 And G1161 CONJ they that heard G191 V-AAP-NPM it said G2036 V-2AAI-3P , Who G5101 I-NSM then G2532 CONJ can G1410 V-PNI-3S be saved G4982 V-APN ?
27 And G1161 CONJ he G3588 T-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , The things which are impossible G102 A-NPN with G3844 PREP men G444 N-DPM are G2076 V-PXI-3S possible G1415 A-NPN with G3844 PREP God G2316 N-DSM .

37 And G1161 CONJ they told G518 V-AAI-3P him G846 P-DSM , that G3754 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM of Nazareth G3480 N-NSM passeth by G3928 V-PNI-3S .
38 And G2532 CONJ he cried G994 V-AAI-3S , saying G3004 V-PAP-NSM , Jesus G2424 N-VSM , thou son G5207 N-VSM of David G1138 N-PRI , have mercy G1653 V-AAM-2S on me G3165 P-1AS .
39 And G2532 CONJ they which went before G4254 V-PAP-NPM rebuked G2008 V-IAI-3P him G846 P-DSM , that G2443 CONJ he should hold his peace G4623 V-AAS-3S : but G1161 CONJ he G846 P-NSM cried G2896 V-IAI-3S so much G4183 A-DSN the more G3123 ADV , Thou son G5207 N-VSM of David G1138 N-PRI , have mercy G1653 V-AAM-2S on me G3165 P-1AS .
40 And G1161 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM stood G2476 V-APP-NSM , and commanded G2753 V-AAI-3S him G846 P-ASM to be brought G71 V-APN unto G4314 PREP him G846 P-ASM : and G1161 CONJ when he G846 P-GSM was come near G1448 V-AAP-GSM , he asked G1905 V-AAI-3S him G846 P-ASM ,
41 Saying G3004 V-PAP-NSM , What G5101 I-ASN wilt G2309 V-PAI-2S thou that I shall do G4160 V-AAS-1S unto thee G4671 P-2DS ? And G1161 CONJ he G3588 T-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , Lord G2962 N-VSM , that G2443 CONJ I may receive my sight G308 V-AAS-1S .
42 And G2532 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Receive thy sight G308 V-AAM-2S : thy G3588 T-NSF faith G4102 N-NSF hath saved G4982 V-RAI-3S thee G4571 P-2AS .
43 And G2532 CONJ immediately G3916 ADV he received his sight G308 V-AAI-3S , and G2532 CONJ followed G190 V-IAI-3S him G846 P-DSM , glorifying G1392 V-PAP-NSM God G2316 N-ASM : and G2532 CONJ all G3956 A-NSM the G3588 T-NSM people G2992 N-NSM , when they saw G1492 V-2AAP-NSM it , gave G1325 V-AAI-3S praise G136 N-ASM unto God G2316 N-DSM .
