2 ഏലീയാവു എലീശയോടു: നീ ഇവിടെ താമസിച്ചു കൊൾക: യഹോവ എന്നെ ബേഥേലിലേക്കു അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. എലീശാ അവനോടു: യഹോവയാണ, നിന്റെ ജീവനാണ, ഞാൻ നിന്നെ വിടുകയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവർ ബേഥേലിലേക്കു പോയി.

3 ബേഥേലിലെ പ്രവാചകശിഷ്യന്മാർ എലീശയുടെ അടുക്കൽ പുറത്തുവന്നു അവനോടു: യഹോവ ഇന്നു നിന്റെ യജമാനനെ നിന്റെ തലെക്കൽനിന്നു എടുത്തുകൊള്ളും എന്നു നീ അറിയുന്നുവോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അതിന്നു അവൻ: അതേ, ഞാൻ അറിയുന്നു; നിങ്ങൾ മിണ്ടാതിരിപ്പിൻ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8 അപ്പോൾ ഏലീയാവു തന്റെ പുതപ്പു എടുത്തു മടക്കി വെള്ളത്തെ അടിച്ചു; അതു അങ്ങോട്ടും ഇങ്ങോട്ടും പിരിഞ്ഞു; അങ്ങനെ അവർ ഇരുവരും ഉണങ്ങിയ നിലത്തുകൂടി അക്കരെക്കു കടന്നു.

14 ഏലീയാവിന്മേൽനിന്നു വീണ പുതപ്പുകൊണ്ടു അവൻ വെള്ളത്തെ അടിച്ചു: ഏലീയാവിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ എവിടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവൻ വെള്ളത്തെ അടിച്ചപ്പോൾ അതു അങ്ങോട്ടും ഇങ്ങോട്ടും പിരിഞ്ഞു. എലീശാ ഇക്കരെക്കു കടന്നു.

19 അനന്തരം ആ പട്ടണക്കാർ എലീശയോടു: ഈ പട്ടണത്തിന്റെ ഇരിപ്പു മനോഹരമായതെന്നു യജമാനൻ കാണുന്നുവല്ലോ; എന്നാൽ വെള്ളം ചീത്തയും ദേശം ഗർഭനാശകവും ആകുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

20 അതിന്നു അവൻ: ഒരു പുതിയ തളിക കൊണ്ടുവന്നു അതിൽ ഉപ്പു ഇടുവിൻ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവർ അതു അവന്റെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു.

21 അവൻ നീരുറവിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ചെന്നു അതിൽ ഉപ്പു ഇട്ടു. ഞാൻ ഈ വെള്ളം പഥ്യമാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു; ഇനി ഇതിനാൽ മരണവും ഗർഭനാശവും ഉണ്ടാകയില്ല എന്നു യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

22 എലീശാ പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ ആ വെള്ളം ഇന്നുവരെ പഥ്യമായിത്തന്നേ ഇരിക്കുന്നു.

23 പിന്നെ അവൻ അവിടെനിന്നു ബേഥേലിലേക്കു പോയി; അവൻ വഴിയിൽ നടക്കുമ്പോൾ ബാലന്മാർ പട്ടണത്തിൽനിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു വന്നു അവനെ പരിഹസിച്ചു അവനോടു: മൊട്ടത്തലയാ, കയറി വാ; മൊട്ടത്തലയാ, കയറി വാ; എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

24 അവൻ പിന്നോക്കം തിരിഞ്ഞു അവനെ നോക്കി യഹോവനാമത്തിൽ അവരെ ശപിച്ചു; അപ്പോൾ കാട്ടിൽനിന്നു രണ്ടു പെൺകരടി ഇറങ്ങിവന്നു അവരിൽ നാല്പത്തിരണ്ടു ബാലന്മാരെ കീറിക്കളഞ്ഞു.
