Genesis 11:3 (NLT) New Living Translation

1 At one time all the people of the world spoke the same language and used the same words.
2 As the people migrated to the east, they found a plain in the land of Babylonia and settled there.
3 They began saying to each other, "Let's make bricks and harden them with fire." (In this region bricks were used instead of stone, and tar was used for mortar.)
4 Then they said, "Come, let's build a great city for ourselves with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make us famous and keep us from being scattered all over the world."
5 But the LORD came down to look at the city and the tower the people were building.
6 "Look!" he said. "The people are united, and they all speak the same language. After this, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them!
7 Come, let's go down and confuse the people with different languages. Then they won't be able to understand each other."
8 In that way, the LORD scattered them all over the world, and they stopped building the city.
9 That is why the city was called Babel, because that is where the LORD confused the people with different languages. In this way he scattered them all over the world.
10 This is the account of Shem's family. Two years after the great flood, when Shem was 100 years old, he became the father of Arphaxad.
11 After the birth of Arphaxad, Shem lived another 500 years and had other sons and daughters.
12 When Arphaxad was 35 years old, he became the father of Shelah.
13 After the birth of Shelah, Arphaxad lived another 403 years and had other sons and daughters.
14 When Shelah was 30 years old, he became the father of Eber.
15 After the birth of Eber, Shelah lived another 403 years and had other sons and daughters.
16 When Eber was 34 years old, he became the father of Peleg.
17 After the birth of Peleg, Eber lived another 430 years and had other sons and daughters.
18 When Peleg was 30 years old, he became the father of Reu.
19 After the birth of Reu, Peleg lived another 209 years and had other sons and daughters.
20 When Reu was 32 years old, he became the father of Serug.
21 After the birth of Serug, Reu lived another 207 years and had other sons and daughters.
22 When Serug was 30 years old, he became the father of Nahor.
23 After the birth of Nahor, Serug lived another 200 years and had other sons and daughters.
24 When Nahor was 29 years old, he became the father of Terah.
25 After the birth of Terah, Nahor lived another 119 years and had other sons and daughters.
26 When Terah was 70 years old, he had become the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
27 This is the account of Terah's family. Terah was the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran was the father of Lot.
28 But Haran died in Ur of the Chaldeans, the land of his birth, while his father, Terah, was still living.
29 Meanwhile, Abram and Nahor both married. The name of Abram's wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife was Milcah. (Milcah and her sister Iscah were daughters of Nahor's brother Haran.)
30 But Sarai was unable to become pregnant and had no children.
31 One day Terah took his son Abram, his daughter-in-law Sarai (his son Abram's wife), and his grandson Lot (his son Haran's child) and moved away from Ur of the Chaldeans. He was headed for the land of Canaan, but they stopped at Haran and settled there.
32 Terah lived for 205 years and died while still in Haran.

4 And they said H559 W-VQY3MP , Go to H3051 VQI2MS-3FS , let us build H1129 VQI1MS us a city H5892 GFS and a tower H4026 W-NMS , whose top H7218 W-CMS-3MS may reach unto heaven H8064 BD-NMP ; and let us make H6213 W-VQI1MP us a name H8034 CMS , lest H6435 CONJ we be scattered abroad H6327 VQY1MP upon H5921 PREP the face H6440 CMP of the whole H3605 CMS earth H776 D-GFS .
5 And the LORD H3068 EDS came down H3381 W-VQY3MS to see H7200 L-VQFC the city H5892 D-GFS and the tower H4026 D-NMS , which H834 RPRO the children H1121 of men H120 D-NMS built H1129 .
6 And the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS , Behold H2005 IJEC , the people H5971 NMS is one H259 MMS , and they have all H3605 NMS one H259 OFS language H8193 W-NFS ; and this H2088 W-PMS they begin H2490 VHFC-3MP to do H6213 L-VQFC : and now H6258 W-ADV nothing H3808 ADV will be restrained H1219 VNY3MS from H4480 them , which H834 RPRO they have imagined H2161 VQY3MP to do H6213 L-VQFC .

8 So the LORD H3068 EDS scattered them abroad H6327 W-VHYMS from thence H8033 M-ADV upon H5921 PREP the face H6440 CMP of all H3605 CMS the earth H776 D-GFS : and they left off H2308 W-VQY3MP to build H1129 L-VQFC the city H5892 D-GFS .
9 Therefore H5921 PREP is the name H8034 CMS-3FS of it called H7121 VQQ3MS Babel H894 LFS ; because H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS did there H8033 ADV confound H1101 VQQ3MS the language H8193 CFS of all H3605 NMS the earth H776 D-GFS : and from thence H8033 WM-ADV did the LORD H3068 EDS scatter them abroad H6327 VHQ3MS-3MP upon H5921 PREP the face H6440 CMP of all H3605 NMS the earth H776 D-GFS .

17 And Eber H5677 EMS lived H2421 W-VQY3MS after H310 PREP he begot H3205 VHFC-3MS Peleg H6389 EMS four H702 W-BFS hundred H3967 BFP and thirty H7970 MMP years H8141 NFS , and begot H3205 W-VHY3MS sons H1121 NMP and daughters H1323 W-CFP .
18 And Peleg H6389 EMS lived H2421 W-VQY3MS thirty H7970 MMP years H8141 NFS , and begot H3205 W-VHY3MS Reu H7466 EMS :
19 And Peleg H6389 EMS lived H2421 W-VQY3MS after H310 PREP he begot H3205 VHFC-3MS Reu H7466 EMS two hundred H3967 W-MFD and nine H8672 MFS years H8141 NFP , and begot H3205 W-VHY3MS sons H1121 NMP and daughters H1323 W-CFP .
20 And Reu H7466 EMS lived H2421 W-VQY3MS two H8147 MFD and thirty H7970 W-MMP years H8141 NFS , and begot H3205 W-VHY3MS Serug H8286 EMS :
21 And Reu H7466 EMS lived H2421 W-VQY3MS after H310 PREP he begot H3205 VHFC-3MS Serug H8286 EMS two hundred H3967 W-MFD and seven H7651 MFS years H8141 NFP , and begot H3205 W-VHY3MS sons H1121 NMP and daughters H1323 W-CFP .

23 And Serug H8286 EMS lived H2421 W-VQY3MS after H310 PREP he begot H3205 VHFC-3MS Nahor H5152 EMS two hundred H3967 MFD years H8141 NFS , and begot H3205 W-VHY3MS sons H1121 NMP and daughters H1323 W-CFP .
24 And Nahor H5152 EMS lived H2421 W-VQY3MS nine H8672 MFS and twenty H6242 W-MMP years H8141 NFS , and begot H3205 W-VHY3MS Terah H8646 EMS :
25 And Nahor H5152 EMS lived H2421 W-VQY3MS after H310 PREP he begot H3205 VHFC-3MS Terah H8646 EMS a hundred H3967 W-BFS and nineteen H8672 BFS years H8141 NFS , and begot H3205 W-VHY3MS sons H1121 NMP and daughters H1323 W-CFP .
26 And Terah H8646 EMS lived H2421 W-VQY3MS seventy H7657 ONUM years H8141 NFS , and begot H3205 W-VHY3MS Abram H87 EMS , Nahor H5152 EMS , and Haran H2039 LMS .
27 Now these H428 W-PMP are the generations H8435 CFP of Terah H8646 EMS : Terah H8646 EMS begot H3205 VHQ3MS Abram H87 EMS , Nahor H5152 EMS , and Haran H2039 LMS ; and Haran H2039 W-LMS begot H3205 VHQ3MS Lot H3876 EMS .
28 And Haran H2039 LMS died H4191 W-VQY3MS before H5921 PREP his father H1 CMS-3MS Terah H8646 EMS in the land H776 B-GFS of his nativity H4138 CFS-3MS , in Ur H218 B-LFS of the Chaldees H3778 LMP .
29 And Abram H87 EMS and Nahor H5152 W-EMS took H3947 W-VQY3MS them wives H802 GFP : the name H8034 CMS of Abram H87 EMS \'s wife H802 CFS was Sarai H8297 EFS ; and the name H8034 W-CMS of Nahor H5152 EMS \'s wife H802 CFS , Milcah H4435 EFS , the daughter H1323 CFS of Haran H2039 LMS , the father H1 CMS of Milcah H4435 EFS , and the father H1 W-CMS of Iscah H3252 EMS .
30 But Sarai H8297 EFS was H1961 W-VQY3FS barren H6135 AFS ; she had no H369 NPAR child H2056 NMS .
