Hosea 13:5 (NLT) New Living Translation

1 When the tribe of Ephraim spoke, the people shook with fear, for that tribe was important in Israel. But the people of Ephraim sinned by worshiping Baal and thus sealed their destruction.
2 Now they continue to sin by making silver idols, images shaped skillfully with human hands. "Sacrifice to these," they cry, "and kiss the calf idols!"
3 Therefore, they will disappear like the morning mist, like dew in the morning sun, like chaff blown by the wind, like smoke from a chimney.
4 "I have been the LORD your God ever since I brought you out of Egypt. You must acknowledge no God but me, for there is no other savior.
5 I took care of you in the wilderness, in that dry and thirsty land.
6 But when you had eaten and were satisfied, you became proud and forgot me.
7 So now I will attack you like a lion, like a leopard that lurks along the road.
8 Like a bear whose cubs have been taken away, I will tear out your heart. I will devour you like a hungry lioness and mangle you like a wild animal.
9 "You are about to be destroyed, O Israel-- yes, by me, your only helper.
10 Now where is your king? Let him save you! Where are all the leaders of the land, the king and the officials you demanded of me?
11 In my anger I gave you kings, and in my fury I took them away.
12 "Ephraim's guilt has been collected, and his sin has been stored up for punishment.
13 Pain has come to the people like the pain of childbirth, but they are like a child who resists being born. The moment of birth has arrived, but they stay in the womb!
14 "Should I ransom them from the grave? Should I redeem them from death? O death, bring on your terrors! O grave, bring on your plagues! For I will not take pity on them.
15 Ephraim was the most fruitful of all his brothers, but the east wind-- a blast from the LORD-- will arise in the desert. All their flowing springs will run dry, and all their wells will disappear. Every precious thing they own will be plundered and carried away.
16 The people of Samaria must bear the consequences of their guilt because they rebelled against their God. They will be killed by an invading army, their little ones dashed to death against the ground, their pregnant women ripped open by swords."

2 And now H6258 W-ADV they sin H2398 L-VQFC more and more H3254 , and have made H6213 them molten images H4541 of their silver H3701 , and idols H6091 according to their own understanding H8394 , all H3605 of it the work H4639 M-CMS of the craftsmen H2796 : they H1992 PPRO-3MP say H559 of them , Let the men H120 NMS that sacrifice H2076 kiss H5401 the calves H5695 .
3 Therefore H3651 L-ADV they shall be H1961 as the morning H1242 NMS cloud H6051 , and as the early H7925 dew H2919 that passeth away H1980 , as the chaff H4671 that is driven with the whirlwind H5590 out of the floor H1637 , and as the smoke H6227 out of the chimney H699 .
4 Yet I H595 W-PPRO-1MS am the LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS from the land H776 M-NFS of Egypt H4714 , and thou shalt know H3045 VQY2MS no H3808 NADV god H430 CMP-2MS but H2108 me : for there is no H369 ADV savior H3467 beside H1115 me .
5 I H589 PPRO-1MS did know H3045 thee in the wilderness H4057 , in the land H776 B-GFS of great drought H8514 .
6 According to their pasture H4830 , so were they filled H7646 ; they were filled H7646 , and their heart H3820 CMS-3MP was exalted H7311 ; therefore H3651 ADV have they forgotten H7911 VQQ3MP-1MS me .
7 Therefore I will be H1961 W-VQY1MS unto them as H3644 PREP a lion H7826 NMS : as a leopard H5246 by H5921 PREP the way H1870 NMS will I observe H7789 them :
8 I will meet H6298 them as a bear H1677 that is bereaved H7909 of her whelps , and will rend H7167 the caul H5458 NMS of their heart H3820 CMS-3MP , and there H8033 ADV will I devour H398 them like a lion H3833 : the wild H7704 D-NMS beast H2416 CFS shall tear H1234 them .
9 O Israel H3478 , thou hast destroyed H7843 thyself ; but H3588 CONJ in me is thine help H5828 .
10 I will be H165 thy king H4428 NMS : where H645 CONJ is any other that may save H3467 thee in all H3605 B-CMS thy cities H5892 ? and thy judges H8199 of whom H834 RPRO thou saidst H559 VQQ2MS , Give H5414 me a king H4428 NMS and princes H8269 ?
11 I gave H5414 thee a king H4428 NMS in mine anger H639 , and took him away H3947 in my wrath H5678 .
12 The iniquity H5771 of Ephraim H669 is bound up H6887 ; his sin H2403 is hid H6845 .
13 The sorrows H2256 of a travailing woman H3205 shall come H935 VQY3MP upon him : he H1931 PPRO-3MS is an unwise H2450 AMS son H1121 ; for H3588 CONJ he should not H3808 NADV stay H5975 VQY3MS long H6256 NMS in the place of the breaking forth H4866 of children H1121 .
14 I will ransom H6299 them from the power H3027 M-GFS of the grave H7585 NMS ; I will redeem H1350 them from death H4194 M-NMS : O death H4194 NMS , I will be H165 thy plagues H1698 ; O grave H7585 NMS , I will be H165 thy destruction H6987 : repentance H5164 shall be hid H5641 from mine eyes H5869 M-CMD-1MS .
15 Though H3588 CONJ he H1931 PPRO-3MS be fruitful H6500 among H996 his brethren H251 NMP , an east wind H6921 NMP shall come H935 VQY3MS , the wind H7307 NFS of the LORD H3068 EDS shall come up H5927 from the wilderness H4057 , and his spring H4726 shall become dry H954 , and his fountain H4599 shall be dried up H2717 : he H1931 PPRO-3MS shall spoil H8154 the treasure H214 of all H3605 NMS pleasant H2532 vessels H3627 CMS .
16 Samaria H8111 shall become desolate H816 ; for H3588 CONJ she hath rebelled H4784 against her God H430 : they shall fall H5307 by the sword H2719 : their infants H5768 shall be dashed in pieces H7376 , and their women with child H2030 shall be ripped up H1234 .
