Hosea 2:3 (NLT) New Living Translation

1 "In that day you will call your brothers Ammi-- 'My people.' And you will call your sisters Ruhamah-- 'The ones I love.'
2 "But now bring charges against Israel-- your mother-- for she is no longer my wife, and I am no longer her husband. Tell her to remove the prostitute's makeup from her face and the clothing that exposes her breasts.
3 Otherwise, I will strip her as naked as she was on the day she was born. I will leave her to die of thirst, as in a dry and barren wilderness.
4 And I will not love her children, for they were conceived in prostitution.
5 Their mother is a shameless prostitute and became pregnant in a shameful way. She said, 'I'll run after other lovers and sell myself to them for food and water, for clothing of wool and linen, and for olive oil and drinks.'
6 "For this reason I will fence her in with thornbushes. I will block her path with a wall to make her lose her way.
7 When she runs after her lovers, she won't be able to catch them. She will search for them but not find them. Then she will think, 'I might as well return to my husband, for I was better off with him than I am now.'
8 She doesn't realize it was I who gave her everything she has-- the grain, the new wine, the olive oil; I even gave her silver and gold. But she gave all my gifts to Baal.
9 "But now I will take back the ripened grain and new wine I generously provided each harvest season. I will take away the wool and linen clothing I gave her to cover her nakedness.
10 I will strip her naked in public, while all her lovers look on. No one will be able to rescue her from my hands.
11 I will put an end to her annual festivals, her new moon celebrations, and her Sabbath days-- all her appointed festivals.
12 I will destroy her grapevines and fig trees, things she claims her lovers gave her. I will let them grow into tangled thickets, where only wild animals will eat the fruit.
13 I will punish her for all those times when she burned incense to her images of Baal, when she put on her earrings and jewels and went out to look for her lovers but forgot all about me," says the LORD.
14 "But then I will win her back once again. I will lead her into the desert and speak tenderly to her there.
15 I will return her vineyards to her and transform the Valley of Trouble into a gateway of hope. She will give herself to me there, as she did long ago when she was young, when I freed her from her captivity in Egypt.
16 When that day comes," says the LORD, "you will call me 'my husband' instead of 'my master.'
17 O Israel, I will wipe the many names of Baal from your lips, and you will never mention them again.
18 On that day I will make a covenant with all the wild animals and the birds of the sky and the animals that scurry along the ground so they will not harm you. I will remove all weapons of war from the land, all swords and bows, so you can live unafraid in peace and safety.
19 I will make you my wife forever, showing you righteousness and justice, unfailing love and compassion.
20 I will be faithful to you and make you mine, and you will finally know me as the LORD.
21 "In that day, I will answer," says the LORD. "I will answer the sky as it pleads for clouds. And the sky will answer the earth with rain.
22 Then the earth will answer the thirsty cries of the grain, the grapevines, and the olive trees. And they in turn will answer, 'Jezreel'-- 'God plants!'
23 At that time I will plant a crop of Israelites and raise them for myself. I will show love to those I called 'Not loved.' And to those I called 'Not my people,' I will say, 'Now you are my people.' And they will reply, 'You are our God!' "

4 And I will not H3808 NADV have mercy upon H7355 her children H1121 CMP-3FS ; for H3588 CONJ they H1992 be the children H1121 CMP of whoredoms H2183 .
5 For H3588 CONJ their mother H517 hath played the harlot H2181 : she that conceived H2029 them hath done shamefully H954 : for H3588 CONJ she said H559 VQQ3FS , I will go H1980 after H310 PREP my lovers H157 , that give H5414 me my bread H3899 and my water H4325 , my wool H6785 and my flax H6593 , mine oil H8081 and my drink H8250 .
6 Therefore H3651 L-ADV , behold H2009 , I will hedge up H7753 thy way H1870 with thorns H5518 , and make H1443 a wall H1447 , that she shall not H3808 NADV find H4672 her paths H5410 .
7 And she shall follow after H7291 her lovers H157 , but she shall not H3808 W-NPAR overtake H5381 them ; and she shall seek H1245 them , but shall not H3808 W-NPAR find H4672 them : then shall she say H559 , I will go H1980 and return H7725 to H413 PREP my first H7223 husband H376 ; for H3588 CONJ then H227 ADV was it better H2896 AMS with me than now H6258 .
8 For she H1931 did not H3808 NADV know H3045 that H3588 CONJ I H595 PPRO-1MS gave H5414 VQQ1MS her corn H1715 , and wine H8492 , and oil H3323 , and multiplied H7235 her silver H3701 W-CMS and gold H2091 , which they prepared H6213 VQQ3MP for Baal H1168 .
9 Therefore H3651 L-ADV will I return H7725 VQY1MS , and take away H3947 my corn H1715 in the time H6256 B-CFS-3MS thereof , and my wine H8492 in the season H4150 thereof , and will recover H5337 my wool H6785 and my flax H6593 given to cover H3680 her nakedness H6172 .
10 And now H6258 W-ADV will I discover H1540 her lewdness H5040 in the sight H5869 of her lovers H157 , and none H3808 ADV shall deliver H5337 her out of mine hand H3027 .
11 I will also cause all H3605 NMS her mirth H4885 to cease H7673 , her feast days H2282 , her new moons H2320 , and her sabbaths H7676 , and all H3605 NMS her solemn feasts H4150 .
12 And I will destroy H8074 her vines H1612 and her fig trees H8384 , whereof H834 RPRO she hath said H559 VQQ3FS , These H1992 PPRO-3MP are my rewards H866 that H834 RPRO my lovers H157 have given H5414 me : and I will make H7760 them a forest H3293 , and the beasts H2416 CFS of the field H7704 D-NMS shall eat H398 them .
13 And I will visit H6485 upon H5921 PREP-3FS her the days H3117 CMP of Baalim H1168 , wherein H834 RPRO she burned incense H6999 to them , and she decked H5710 herself with her earrings H5141 and her jewels H2484 , and she went H1980 W-VQQ3FS after H310 PREP her lovers H157 , and forgot H7911 me , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
14 Therefore H3651 L-ADV , behold H2009 IJEC , I H595 PPRO-1MS will allure H6601 her , and bring H1980 her into the wilderness H4057 D-NMS , and speak H1696 comfortably H3820 unto her .
15 And I will give H5414 her her vineyards H3754 from thence H8033 M-ADV , and the valley H6010 CMS of Achor H5911 for a door H6607 of hope H8615 NFS : and she shall sing H6030 there H8033 , as in the days H3117 K-CMP of her youth H5271 , and as in the day H3117 when she came up H5927 out of the land H776 of Egypt H4714 .
16 And it shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS at that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS , that thou shalt call H7121 me Ishi H376 ; and shalt call H7121 me no H3808 W-NPAR more H5750 ADV Baali H1180 .
17 For I will take away H5493 the names H8034 of Baalim H1168 out of her mouth H6310 , and they shall no H3808 W-NPAR more H5750 ADV be remembered H2142 by their name H8034 .
18 And in that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS will I make H3772 a covenant H1285 NFS for them with H5973 PREP the beasts H2416 CFS of the field H7704 D-NMS , and with H5973 the fowls H5775 NMS of heaven H8064 D-NMD , and with the creeping things H7431 of the ground H127 D-NFS : and I will break H7665 the bow H7198 and the sword H2719 and the battle H4421 out of H4480 PREP the earth H776 D-GFS , and will make them to lie down H7901 safely H983 .
19 And I will betroth H781 thee unto me forever H5769 L-NMS ; yea , I will betroth H781 thee unto me in righteousness H6664 , and in judgment H4941 , and in lovingkindness H2617 , and in mercies H7356 .
20 I will even betroth H781 thee unto me in faithfulness H530 : and thou shalt know H3045 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
21 And it shall come to pass H1961 W-VQQ3MS in that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS , I will hear H6030 VQY1MS , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS , I will hear H6030 VQY1MS the heavens H8064 D-AMP , and they H1992 W-PPRO-3MP shall hear H6030 VQY3MP the earth H776 D-GFS ;
22 And the earth H776 WD-GFS shall hear H6030 the corn H1715 , and the wine H8492 , and the oil H3323 ; and they H1992 W-PPRO-3MP shall hear H6030 VQY3MP Jezreel H3157 .
23 And I will sow H2232 her unto me in the earth H776 B-NFS ; and I will have mercy upon H7355 her that had not H3808 NADV obtained mercy H7355 ; and I will say H559 W-VQQ1MS to them which were not H3808 ADV my people H5971 , Thou H859 PPRO-2MS art my people H5971 ; and they H1931 W-PPRO-3MS shall say H559 VQY3MS , Thou art my God H430 CMP-1MS .
