Romans 8:16 (NLT) New Living Translation

1 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.
2 And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.
3 The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin's control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins.
4 He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.
5 Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit.
6 So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.
7 For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God's laws, and it never will.
8 That's why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God.
9 But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.)
10 And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God.
11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.
12 Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do.
13 For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live.
14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.
15 So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God's Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, "Abba, Father."
16 For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God's children.
17 And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God's glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.
18 Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later.
19 For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are.
20 Against its will, all creation was subjected to God's curse. But with eager hope,
21 the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God's children in glorious freedom from death and decay.
22 For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.
23 And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us.
24 We were given this hope when we were saved. (If we already have something, we don't need to hope for it.
25 But if we look forward to something we don't yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.)
26 And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don't know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.
27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God's own will.
28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
29 For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
30 And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory.
31 What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?
32 Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won't he also give us everything else?
33 Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one-- for God himself has given us right standing with himself.
34 Who then will condemn us? No one-- for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God's right hand, pleading for us.
35 Can anything ever separate us from Christ's love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?
36 (As the Scriptures say, "For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.")
37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.
38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow-- not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's love.
39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below-- indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

3 For G1063 CONJ what G3588 T-GSM the G3588 T-GSM law G3551 N-GSM could not do G102 A-NSN , in G1722 PREP that G3739 R-DSN it was weak G770 V-IAI-3S through G1223 PREP the G3588 T-GSF flesh G4561 N-GSF , God G2316 N-NSM sending G3992 V-AAP-NSM his own G1438 F-3GSM Son G5207 N-ASM in G1722 PREP the likeness G3667 N-DSN of sinful G266 N-GSF flesh G4561 N-GSF , and G2532 CONJ for G4012 PREP sin G266 N-GSF , condemned G2632 V-AAI-3S sin G266 N-ASF in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSF flesh G4561 N-DSF :

5 For G1063 CONJ they that are G5607 V-PXP-NPM after G2596 PREP the flesh G4561 N-ASF do mind G5426 V-PAI-3P the things G3588 T-NPM of G3588 T-GSF the G3588 T-GSF flesh G4561 N-GSF ; but G1161 CONJ they G3588 T-GSF that are after G2596 PREP the Spirit G4151 N-ASN the things G3588 T-NPM of G3588 T-GSN the G3588 T-GSN Spirit G4151 N-GSN .
6 For G3588 T-GSF to be carnally G4561 N-GSF minded G5427 N-NSN is death G2288 N-NSM ; but G1161 CONJ to be spiritually G4151 N-GSN minded G5427 N-NSN is life G2222 N-NSF and G2532 CONJ peace G1515 N-NSF .
7 Because G1360 CONJ the G3588 T-GSF carnal G4561 N-GSF mind G5427 N-NSN is enmity G2189 N-NSF against G1519 PREP God G2316 N-ASM : for G1063 CONJ it is not subject G5293 V-PPI-3S to the G3588 T-GSF law G3551 N-DSM of God G2316 N-GSM , neither G3761 ADV indeed G1063 CONJ can G1410 V-PNI-3S be .
8 So G1161 CONJ then they that are G5607 V-PXP-NPM in G1722 PREP the flesh G4561 N-DSF cannot G1410 V-PNI-3P please G700 V-AAN God G2316 N-DSM .
9 But G1161 CONJ ye G5210 P-2NP are G2075 V-PXI-2P not G3756 PRT-N in G1722 PREP the flesh G4561 N-DSF , but G235 CONJ in G1722 PREP the Spirit G4151 N-DSN , if so be that G1512 COND the Spirit G4151 N-NSN of God G2316 N-GSM dwell G3611 V-PAI-3S in G1722 PREP you G5213 P-2DP . 10 And G1161 CONJ if G1487 COND Christ G5547 N-NSM be in G1722 PREP you G5213 P-2DP , the G3588 T-NSN body G4983 N-NSN is A-NSN dead G3498 A-NSN because G1223 PREP of G3588 T-NSN sin G266 N-ASF ; but G1161 CONJ the G3588 T-NSN Spirit G4151 N-NSN is life G2222 N-NSF because G1223 PREP of righteousness G1343 N-ASF .
11 But G1161 CONJ if G1487 COND the G3588 T-NSN Spirit G4151 N-NSN of him that raised up G1453 V-AAP-GSM Jesus G2424 N-ASM from G1537 PREP the dead G3498 A-GPM dwell G3611 V-PAI-3S in G1722 PREP you G5213 P-2DP , he G3588 T-ASM that G3588 T-ASM raised up G1453 V-AAP-NSM Christ G5547 N-ASM from G1537 PREP the dead G3498 A-GPM shall also G2532 CONJ quicken G2227 V-FAI-3S your G3588 T-APN mortal G2349 A-APN bodies G4983 N-APN by G1223 PREP his G848 Spirit G4151 N-ASN that dwelleth G1774 V-PAP-ASN in G1722 PREP you G5213 P-2DP .
12 Therefore G686 PRT , brethren G80 N-VPM , we are G2070 V-PXI-1P debtors G3781 N-NPM , not G3756 PRT-N to the G3588 T-DSF flesh G4561 N-DSF , to live G2198 V-PAN after G2596 PREP the G3588 T-GSM flesh G4561 N-ASF .
13 For G1063 CONJ if G1487 COND ye live G2198 V-PAI-2P after G2596 PREP the flesh G4561 N-ASF , ye shall G3195 V-PAI-2P die G599 V-PAN : but G1161 CONJ if G1487 COND ye through the Spirit G4151 N-DSN do mortify G2289 V-PAI-2P the G3588 T-APF deeds G4234 N-APF of G3588 T-GSN the G3588 T-GSN body G4983 N-GSN , ye shall live G2198 V-FDI-2P .
14 For G1063 CONJ as many as G3745 K-NPM are led G71 V-PPI-3P by the Spirit G4151 N-DSN of God G2316 N-GSM , they G3778 D-NPM are G1526 V-PXI-3P the sons G5207 N-NPM of God G2316 N-GSM .
15 For G1063 CONJ ye have not G3756 PRT-N received G2983 V-2AAI-2P the spirit G4151 N-ASN of bondage G1397 N-GSF again G3825 ADV to G1519 PREP fear G5401 N-ASM ; but G235 CONJ ye have received G2983 V-2AAI-2P the Spirit G4151 N-ASN of adoption G5206 N-GSF , whereby G1722 PREP we cry G2896 V-PAI-1P , Abba G5 N-PRI , Father G3962 N-NSM .
16 The G3588 T-NSN Spirit G4151 N-NSN itself G846 P-NSN beareth witness with G4828 V-PAI-3S our G3588 T-DSN spirit G4151 N-DSN , that G3754 CONJ we are G2070 V-PXI-1P the children G5043 N-NPN of God G2316 N-GSM :
17 And G1161 CONJ if G1487 COND children G5043 N-NPN , then G2532 CONJ heirs G2818 N-NPM ; heirs G2818 N-NPM of G3303 PRT God G2316 N-GSM , and G1161 CONJ joint G4789 A-NPM - heirs with Christ G5547 N-GSM ; if so be that G1512 COND we suffer with G4841 V-PAI-1P him , that G2443 CONJ we may be also G2532 CONJ glorified together G4888 V-APS-1P .
18 For G1063 CONJ I reckon G3049 V-PNI-1S that G3754 CONJ the G3588 T-NPN sufferings G3804 N-NPN of this present G3568 ADV time G2540 N-GSM are not G3756 PRT-N worthy G514 A-NPN to be compared with G4314 PREP the G3588 T-GSM glory G1391 N-ASF which shall G3195 V-PAP-ASF be revealed G601 V-APN in G1519 PREP us G2248 P-1AP .
19 For G1063 CONJ the G3588 T-NSF earnest expectation G603 N-NSF of G3588 T-GSF the G3588 T-GSF creature G2937 N-GSF waiteth for G553 V-PNI-3S the G3588 T-ASF manifestation G602 N-ASF of G3588 T-GPM the G3588 T-GPM sons G5207 N-GPM of God G2316 N-GSM .
20 For G1063 CONJ the G3588 T-NSF creature G2937 N-NSF was made subject G5293 V-2API-3S to vanity G3153 N-DSF , not G3756 PRT-N willingly G1635 A-NSF , but G235 CONJ by reason of G3588 T-ASM him who hath subjected G5293 V-AAP-ASM the same in G1909 PREP hope G1680 N-DSF ,

23 And G1161 CONJ not G3756 PRT-N only G3440 ADV they , but G235 CONJ ourselves G848 also G2532 CONJ , which have G2192 V-PAP-NPM the G3588 T-ASF firstfruits G536 N-ASF of G3588 T-GSN the G3588 T-GSN Spirit G4151 N-GSN , even G2532 CONJ we G2249 P-1NP ourselves G848 groan G4727 V-PAI-1P within G1722 PREP ourselves G1438 F-3DPM , waiting for G553 V-PNP-NPM the adoption G5206 N-ASF , to wit , the G3588 T-ASF redemption G629 N-ASF of G3588 T-GSN our G3588 T-GSN body G4983 N-GSN .

25 But G1161 CONJ if G1487 COND we hope for G1679 V-PAI-1P that G3739 R-ASN we see G991 V-PAI-1P not G3756 PRT-N , then do we with G1223 PREP patience G5281 N-GSF wait for G553 V-PNI-1P it .

29 For G3754 CONJ whom G3739 R-APM he did foreknow G4267 V-AAI-3S , he also G2532 CONJ did predestinate G4309 V-AAI-3S to be conformed to G4832 A-APM the G3588 T-GSF image G1504 N-GSF of G3588 T-GSM his G3588 T-GSM Son G5207 N-GSM , that G3588 T-ASN he G3588 T-ASN might be G1511 V-PXN the firstborn G4416 A-ASM among G1722 PREP many G4183 A-DPM brethren G80 N-DPM .
30 Moreover G1161 CONJ whom G3739 R-APM he did predestinate G4309 V-AAI-3S , them G5128 D-APM he also G2532 CONJ called G2564 V-AAI-3S : and G2532 CONJ whom G3739 R-APM he called G2564 V-AAI-3S , them G5128 D-APM he also G2532 CONJ justified G1344 V-AAI-3S : and G1161 CONJ whom G3739 R-APM he justified G1344 V-AAI-3S , them G5128 D-APM he also G2532 CONJ glorified G1392 V-AAI-3S .
31 What G5101 I-ASN shall we then G3767 CONJ say G2046 V-FAI-1P to G4314 PREP these G5023 D-APN things ? If G1487 COND God G2316 N-NSM be for G5228 PREP us G2257 P-1GP , who G5101 I-NSM can be against G2596 PREP us G2257 P-1GP ?
32 He that R-NSM spared G5339 V-ADI-3S not G3756 PRT-N his own G2398 A-GSM Son G5207 N-GSM , but G235 CONJ delivered him up G3860 V-AAI-3S for G5228 PREP us G2257 P-1GP all G3956 A-GPM , how G4459 ADV-I shall he not G3780 PRT-I with G4862 PREP him G846 P-ASM also G2532 CONJ freely give G5483 V-FDI-3S us G3588 T-APN all things G3956 A-APN ?
33 Who G5101 I-NSM shall lay any thing to the charge G1458 V-FAI-3S of God G2316 N-GSM \'s elect G1588 A-GPM ? It G3588 T-NSM is God G2316 N-NSM that justifieth G1344 V-PAP-NSM .
34 Who G5101 I-NSM is he that condemneth G2632 V-FAP-NSM ? It G3588 T-NSM is Christ G5547 N-NSM that died G599 V-2AAP-NSM , yea G1161 CONJ rather G3123 ADV , that G2532 CONJ is risen again G1453 V-APP-NSM , who G3739 R-NSM is G2076 V-PXI-3S even G2532 CONJ at G1722 PREP the G3588 T-GSM right hand G1188 A-DSF of God G2316 N-GSM , who G3739 R-NSM also G2532 CONJ maketh intercession G1793 V-PAI-3S for G5228 PREP us G2257 P-1GP .
35 Who G5101 I-NSM shall separate G5563 V-FAI-3S us G2248 P-1AP from G575 PREP the G3588 T-GSF love G26 N-GSF of Christ G5547 N-GSM ? shall tribulation G2347 N-NSF , or G2228 PRT distress G4730 N-NSF , or G2228 PRT persecution G1375 N-NSM , or G2228 PRT famine G3042 N-NSM , or G2228 PRT nakedness G1132 N-NSF , or G2228 PRT peril G2794 N-NSM , or G2228 PRT sword G3162 N-NSF ?
36 As G2531 ADV it is written G1125 V-RPI-3S , For thy sake G1752 ADV we are killed G2289 V-PPI-1P all G3650 A-ASF the G3588 T-ASF day G2250 N-ASF long ; we are accounted G3049 V-API-1P as G5613 ADV sheep G4263 N-NPN for the slaughter G4967 N-GSF .
37 Nay G235 CONJ , in G1722 PREP all G3956 A-DPN these things G5125 D-DPN we are more than conquerors G5245 V-PAI-1P through G1223 PREP him that loved G25 V-AAP-GSM us G2248 P-1AP .
38 For G1063 CONJ I am persuaded G3982 V-RPI-1S , that G3754 CONJ neither G3777 CONJ death G2288 N-NSM , nor G3777 CONJ life G2222 N-NSF , nor G3777 CONJ angels G32 N-NPM , nor G3777 CONJ principalities G746 N-NPF , nor G3777 CONJ powers G1411 N-NPF , nor G3777 CONJ things present G1764 V-RAP-NPN , nor G3777 CONJ things to come G3195 V-PAP-NPN ,
39 Nor G3777 CONJ height G5313 N-NSN , nor G3777 CONJ depth G899 N-NSN , nor G3777 CONJ any G5100 X-NSF other G2087 A-NSF creature G2937 N-NSF , shall be able G1410 V-FDI-3S to separate G5563 V-AAN us G2248 P-1AP from G575 PREP the G3588 T-GSF love G26 N-GSF of God G2316 N-GSM , which G3588 T-GSF is in G1722 PREP Christ G5547 N-DSM Jesus G2424 N-DSM our G3588 T-DSM Lord G2962 N-DSM .
