2 Chronicles 22 (RSV) Revised Standard Version

1 And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his stead; for the band of men that came with the Arabs to the camp had slain all the older sons. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned.
2 Ahaziah was forty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Athaliah, the granddaughter of Omri.
3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother was his counselor in doing wickedly.
4 He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, as the house of Ahab had done; for after the death of his father they were his counselors, to his undoing.
5 He even followed their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to make war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramothgilead. And the Syrians wounded Joram,
6 and he returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which he had received at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.
7 But it was ordained by God that the downfall of Ahaziah should come about through his going to visit Joram. For when he came there he went out with Jehoram to meet Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the LORD had anointed to destroy the house of Ahab.
8 And when Jehu was executing judgment upon the house of Ahab, he met the princes of Judah and the sons of Ahaziah's brothers, who attended Ahaziah, and he killed them.
9 He searched for Ahaziah, and he was captured while hiding in Samaria, and he was brought to Jehu and put to death. They buried him, for they said, "He is the grandson of Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with all his heart." And the house of Ahaziah had no one able to rule the kingdom.
10 Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal family of the house of Judah.
11 But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king's sons who were about to be slain, and she put him and his nurse in a bedchamber. Thus Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram and wife of Jehoiada the priest, because she was a sister of Ahaziah, hid him from Athaliah, so that she did not slay him;
12 and he remained with them six years, hid in the house of God, while Athaliah reigned over the land.

5 He walked H1980 VQQ3MS also H1571 CONJ after their counsel H6098 , and went H1980 W-VQY3MS with H854 PREP Jehoram H3088 the son H1121 of Ahab H256 king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 to war H4421 against H5921 PREP Hazael H2371 king H4428 NMS of Syria H758 EMS at Ramoth H7433 - gilead : and the Syrians H761 smote H5221 W-VHY3MP Joram H3141 .
6 And he returned H7725 to be healed H7495 in Jezreel H3157 because of H3588 CONJ the wounds H4347 which H834 RPRO were given H5221 him at Ramah H7414 , when he fought H3898 with Hazael H2371 king H4428 NMS of Syria H758 EMS . And Azariah H5838 the son H1121 CMS of Jehoram H3088 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 went down H3381 VQQ3MS to see H7200 L-VQFC Jehoram H3088 the son H1121 CMS of Ahab H256 at Jezreel H3157 , because H3588 CONJ he H1931 PPRO-3MS was sick H2470 .
7 And the destruction H8395 of Ahaziah H274 was H1961 VQQ3FS of God H430 by coming H935 L-VQFC to H413 PREP Joram H3141 : for when he was come H935 , he went out H3318 VQQ3MS with H5973 PREP Jehoram H3088 against H413 PREP Jehu H3058 the son H1121 CMS of Nimshi H5250 , whom H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS had anointed H4886 to cut off H3772 the house H1004 CMS of Ahab H256 .
8 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , that , when Jehu H3058 was executing judgment H8199 upon H5973 PREP the house H1004 CMS of Ahab H256 , and found H4672 W-VQY3MS the princes H8269 CMP of Judah H3063 , and the sons H1121 W-CMP of the brethren H251 of Ahaziah H274 , that ministered H8334 to Ahaziah H274 , he slew H2026 them .
9 And he sought H1245 Ahaziah H274 : and they caught H3920 him , (for he H1931 W-PPRO-3MS was hid H2244 in Samaria H8111 , ) and brought H935 him to H413 PREP Jehu H3058 : and when they had slain H4191 him , they buried H6912 him : Because H3588 CONJ , said H559 they , he H1931 PPRO-3MS is the son H1121 of Jehoshaphat H3092 , who H834 RPRO sought H1875 the LORD H3068 EDS with all H3605 B-CMS his heart H3824 . So the house H1004 of Ahaziah H274 had no H369 W-NPAR power H3581 CMS to keep still H6113 the kingdom H4467 .
10 But when Athaliah H6271 the mother H517 GFS of Ahaziah H274 saw H7200 VQQ3FS that H3588 CONJ her son H1121 was dead H4191 , she arose H6965 and destroyed H1696 all H3605 NMS the seed H2233 NMS royal H4467 of the house H1004 of Judah H3063 .
11 But Jehoshabeath H3090 , the daughter H1323 CFS of the king H4428 D-NMS , took H3947 W-VQY3FS Joash H3101 the son H1121 of Ahaziah H274 , and stole H1589 him from among H8432 the king H4428 D-NMS \'s sons H1121 that were slain H4191 , and put H5414 W-VQY3FS him and his nurse H3243 in a bedchamber H2315 . So Jehoshabeath H3090 , the daughter H1323 CFS of king H4428 D-NMS Jehoram H3088 , the wife H802 CFS of Jehoiada H3077 the priest H3548 , ( CONJ for CONJ she H1931 PPRO-3FS was H1961 VQQ3FS the sister H269 of Ahaziah H274 , ) hid H5641 him from M-CMP Athaliah H6271 , so that she slew H4191 him not H3808 W-NPAR .
12 And he was H1961 W-VQY3MS with H854 PREP-3MP them hid H2244 in the house H1004 B-CMS of God H430 D-NAME-4MP six H8337 RFS years H8141 NFP : and Athaliah H6271 reigned H4427 over H5921 PREP the land H776 D-GFS .
