Deuteronomy 33:21 (RSV) Revised Standard Version

1 This is the blessing with which Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death.
2 He said, "The LORD came from Sinai, and dawned from Seir upon us; he shone forth from Mount Paran, he came from the ten thousands of holy ones, with flaming fire at his right hand.
3 Yea, he loved his people; all those consecrated to him were in his hand; so they followed in thy steps, receiving direction from thee,
4 when Moses commanded us a law, as a possession for the assembly of Jacob.
5 Thus the LORD became king in Jeshurun, when the heads of the people were gathered, all the tribes of Israel together.
6 "Let Reuben live, and not die, nor let his men be few."
7 And this he said of Judah: "Hear, O LORD, the voice of Judah, and bring him in to his people. With thy hands contend for him, and be a help against his adversaries."
8 And of Levi he said, "Give to Levi thy Thummim, and thy Urim to thy godly one, whom thou didst test at Massah, with whom thou didst strive at the waters of Meribah;
9 who said of his father and mother, `I regard them not'; he disowned his brothers, and ignored his children. For they observed thy word, and kept thy covenant.
10 They shall teach Jacob thy ordinances, and Israel thy law; they shall put incense before thee, and whole burnt offering upon thy altar.
11 Bless, O LORD, his substance, and accept the work of his hands; crush the loins of his adversaries, of those that hate him, that they rise not again."
12 Of Benjamin he said, "The beloved of the LORD, he dwells in safety by him; he encompasses him all the day long, and makes his dwelling between his shoulders."
13 And of Joseph he said, "Blessed by the LORD be his land, with the choicest gifts of heaven above, and of the deep that couches beneath,
14 with the choicest fruits of the sun, and the rich yield of the months,
15 with the finest produce of the ancient mountains, and the abundance of the everlasting hills,
16 with the best gifts of the earth and its fulness, and the favor of him that dwelt in the bush. Let these come upon the head of Joseph, and upon the crown of the head of him that is prince among his brothers.
17 His firstling bull has majesty, and his horns are the horns of a wild ox; with them he shall push the peoples, all of them, to the ends of the earth; such are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and such are the thousands of Manasseh."
18 And of Zebulun he said, "Rejoice, Zebulun, in your going out; and Issachar, in your tents.
19 They shall call peoples to their mountain; there they offer right sacrifices; for they suck the affluence of the seas and the hidden treasures of the sand."
20 And of Gad he said, "Blessed be he who enlarges Gad! Gad couches like a lion, he tears the arm, and the crown of the head.
21 He chose the best of the land for himself, for there a commander's portion was reserved; and he came to the heads of the people, with Israel he executed the commands and just decrees of the LORD."
22 And of Dan he said, "Dan is a lion's whelp, that leaps forth from Bashan."
23 And of Naphtali he said, "O Naphtali, satisfied with favor, and full of the blessing of the LORD, possess the lake and the south."
24 And of Asher he said, "Blessed above sons be Asher; let him be the favorite of his brothers, and let him dip his foot in oil.
25 Your bars shall be iron and bronze; and as your days, so shall your strength be.
26 "There is none like God, O Jeshurun, who rides through the heavens to your help, and in his majesty through the skies.
27 The eternal God is your dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms. And he thrust out the enemy before you, and said, Destroy.
28 So Israel dwelt in safety, the fountain of Jacob alone, in a land of grain and wine; yea, his heavens drop down dew.
29 Happy are you, O Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the LORD, the shield of your help, and the sword of your triumph! Your enemies shall come fawning to you; and you shall tread upon their high places."

3 Yea H637 CONJ , he loved H2245 the people H5971 NMP ; all H3605 NMS his saints H6918 are in thy hand H3027 B-CFS-2MS : and they H1992 W-PPRO-3MP sat down H8497 at thy feet H7272 ; every one shall receive H5375 VQY3MS of thy words H1703 .
4 Moses H4872 commanded H6680 VPQ3MS us a law H8451 NFS , even the inheritance H4181 of the congregation H6952 of Jacob H3290 .
5 And he was H1961 W-VQY3MS king H4428 NMS in Jeshurun H3484 , when the heads H7218 CMP of the people H5971 NMS and the tribes H7626 of Israel H3478 LMS were gathered H622 together H3162 ADV .
6 Let Reuben H7205 live H2421 , and not H408 W-NPAR die H4191 ; and let not his men H4962 be H1961 W-VQI3MS few H4557 NMS .
7 And this H2063 is the blessing of Judah H3063 : and he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Hear H8085 VQI2MS , LORD H3068 EDS , the voice H6963 CMS of Judah H3063 , and bring H935 him unto H413 W-PREP his people H5971 : let his hands H3027 CFD-3MS be sufficient H7227 AMS for him ; and be H1961 VQY2MS thou a help H5828 to him from his enemies H6862 .
8 And of Levi H3878 he said H559 VQQ3MS , Let thy Thummim H8550 and thy Urim H224 be with thy holy H2623 one H376 L-NMS , whom H834 RPRO thou didst prove H5254 at Massah H4532 , and with whom thou didst strive H7378 at H5921 PREP the waters H4325 of Meribah H4809 ;
9 Who said H559 D-VQPMS unto his father H1 and to his mother H517 , I have not H3808 NADV seen H7200 him ; neither H3808 NADV did he acknowledge H5234 his brethren H251 NMP-3MS , nor H3808 NADV knew H3045 his own children H1121 : for H3588 CONJ they have observed H8104 thy word H565 , and kept H5341 thy covenant H1285 .
10 They shall teach H3384 Jacob H3290 thy judgments H4941 , and Israel H3478 thy law H8451 : they shall put H7760 VQY3MP incense H6988 before H639 thee , and whole burnt sacrifice H3632 upon H5921 PREP thine altar H4196 .
11 Bless H1288 VPI2MS , LORD H3068 EDS , his substance H2428 CMS-3MS , and accept H7521 the work H6467 of his hands H3027 CFD-3MS : smite through H4272 the loins H4975 of them that rise against H6965 him , and of them that hate H8130 him , that H4480 PREP they rise not again H6965 .
12 And of Benjamin H1144 he said H559 VQQ3MS , The beloved H3039 of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS shall dwell H7931 VQY3MS in safety H983 L-NMS by H5921 PREP-3MS him ; and the LORD shall cover H2653 him all H3605 NMS the day H3117 D-AMS long , and he shall dwell H7931 between H996 W-PREP his shoulders H3802 .
13 And of Joseph H3130 he said H559 VQQ3MS , Blessed H1288 of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS be his land H776 , for the precious things H4022 of heaven H8064 NMP , for the dew H2919 , and for the deep H8415 that coucheth H7257 beneath H8478 ,
14 And for the precious H4022 fruits H8393 brought forth by the sun H8121 NMS , and for the precious things H4022 put forth H1645 by the moon H3391 ,
15 And for the chief things H7218 of the ancient H6924 NMS mountains H2042 , and for the precious things H4022 of the lasting H5769 NMS hills H1389 ,
16 And for the precious things H4022 of the earth H776 GFS and fullness H4393 thereof , and for the good will H7522 of him that dwelt H7931 in the bush H5572 : let the blessing come H935 upon the head H7218 of Joseph H3130 , and upon the top of the head H6936 of him that was separated H5139 from his brethren H251 .
17 His glory H1926 is like the firstling H1060 CMS of his bullock H7794 CMS-3MS , and his horns H7161 are like the horns H7161 of unicorns H7214 : with them he shall push H5055 the people H5971 NMP together H3162 ADV-3MS to the ends H657 of the earth H776 NFS : and they H1992 W-PPRO-3MP are the ten thousands H7233 of Ephraim H669 , and they H1992 W-PPRO-3MP are the thousands H505 BMP of Manasseh H4519 .
18 And of Zebulun H2074 he said H559 VQQ3MS , Rejoice H8055 , Zebulun H2074 , in thy going out H3318 ; and , Issachar H3485 , in thy tents H168 .
19 They shall call H7121 the people H5971 NMP unto the mountain H2022 CMS ; there H8033 ADV they shall offer H2076 sacrifices H2077 of righteousness H6664 NMS : for H3588 CONJ they shall suck H3243 of the abundance H8228 of the seas H3220 NMP , and of treasures H8226 hid H2934 in the sand H2344 .
20 And of Gad H1410 he said H559 VQQ3MS , Blessed H1288 VWQ3MS be he that enlargeth H7337 Gad H1410 : he dwelleth H7931 as a lion H3833 , and teareth H2963 the arm H2220 NFS with H637 CONJ the crown of the head H6936 .
21 And he provided H7200 W-VIY3MS the first part H7225 CFS for himself , because H3588 CONJ there H8033 ADV , in a portion H2513 of the lawgiver H2710 , was he seated H5603 ; and he came H857 with the heads H7218 CMP of the people H5971 NMS , he executed H6213 VQQ3MS the justice H6666 of the LORD H3068 EDS , and his judgments H4941 with H5973 PREP Israel H3478 LMS .
22 And of Dan H1835 he said H559 VQQ3MS , Dan H1835 is a lion H738 NMS \'s whelp H1482 : he shall leap H2187 from H4480 PREP Bashan H1316 .
23 And of Naphtali H5321 he said H559 VQQ3MS , O Naphtali H5321 , satisfied H7649 with favor H7522 , and full H4392 with the blessing H1293 CFS of the LORD H3068 EDS : possess H3423 thou the west H3220 NMS and the south H1864 .
24 And of Asher H836 he said H559 VQQ3MS , Let Asher H836 be blessed H1288 VWQ3MS with children H1121 ; let him be H1961 VPY3MS acceptable H7521 to his brethren H251 NMP-3MS , and let him dip H2881 his foot H7272 in oil H8081 .
25 Thy shoes H4515 shall be iron H1270 NMS and brass H5178 ; and as thy days H3117 , so shall thy strength H1679 be .
26 There is none H369 NPAR like unto the God H410 KD-NMS of Jeshurun H3484 , who rideth upon H7392 the heaven H8064 NMP in thy help H5828 , and in his excellency H1346 on the sky H7834 .
27 The eternal H6924 NMS God H430 CDP is thy refuge H4585 , and underneath H8478 are the everlasting H5769 NMS arms H2220 : and he shall thrust out H1644 W-VPQ3MS the enemy H341 VQPMS from before H6440 M-CMP-2MS thee ; and shall say H559 W-VQY3MS , Destroy H8045 them .
28 Israel H3478 then shall dwell H7931 in safety H983 NMS alone H910 : the fountain H5869 CMS of Jacob H3290 shall be upon H413 PREP a land H776 GFS of corn H1715 and wine H8492 ; also H637 CONJ his heavens H8064 shall drop down H6201 dew H2919 NMS .
29 Happy H835 art thou , O Israel H3478 : who H4310 IPRO is like unto thee H3644 , O people H5971 NMS saved H3467 by the LORD H3068 , the shield H4043 NMS of thy help H5828 , and who H834 W-RPRO is the sword H2719 GFS of thy excellency H1346 ! and thine enemies H341 VQPMP-2MS shall be found liars H3584 unto thee ; and thou H859 W-PPRO-2MS shalt tread H1869 upon H5921 PREP their high places H1116 .
