Acts 16:34 (RV) Revised Version

1 And he came also to Derbe and to Lystra: and behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a Jewess which believed; but his father was a Greek.
2 The same was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.
3 Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and he took and circumcised him because of the Jews that were in those parts: for they all knew that his father was a Greek.
4 And as they went on their way through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, which had been ordained of the apostles and elders that were at Jerusalem.
5 So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily.
6 And they went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been forbidden of the Holy Ghost to speak the word in Asia;
7 and when they were come over against Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia; and the Spirit of Jesus suffered them not;
8 and passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas.
9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There was a man of Macedonia standing, beseeching him, and saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.
10 And when he had seen the vision, straightway we sought to go forth into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.
11 Setting sail therefore from Troas, we made a straight course to Samothrace, and the day following to Neapolis;
12 and from thence to Philippi, which is a city of Macedonia, the first of the district, a {cf15i Roman} colony: and we were in this city tarrying certain days.
13 And on the sabbath day we went forth without the gate by a river side, where we supposed there was a place of prayer; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which were come together.
14 And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, one that worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, to give heed unto the things which were spoken by Paul.
15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide {cf15i there}. And she constrained us.
16 And it came to pass, as we were going to the place of prayer, that a certain maid having a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying.
17 The same following after Paul and us cried out, saying, These men are servants of the Most High God, which proclaim unto you the way of salvation.
18 And this she did for many days. But Paul, being sore troubled, turned and said to the spirit, I charge thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And it came out that very hour.
19 But when her masters saw that the hope of their gain was gone, they laid hold on Paul and Silas, and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers,
20 and when they had brought them unto the magistrates, they said, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,
21 and set forth customs which it is not lawful for us to receive, or to observe, being Romans.
22 And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent their garments off them, and commanded to beat them with rods.
23 And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:
24 who, having received such a charge, cast them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.
25 But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns unto God, and the prisoners were listening to them;
26 and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison-house were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened; and every one-s bands were loosed.
27 And the jailor being roused out of sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, drew his sword, and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped.
28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.
29 And he called for lights, and sprang in, and, trembling for fear, fell down before Paul and Silas,
30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt be saved, thou and thy house.
32 And they spake the word of the Lord unto him, with all that were in his house.
33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, immediately.
34 And he brought them up into his house, and set meat before them, and rejoiced greatly, with all his house, having believed in God.
35 But when it was day, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go.
36 And the jailor reported the words to Paul, {cf15i saying}, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore come forth, and go in peace.
37 But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us publicly, uncondemned, men that are Romans, and have cast us into prison; and do they now cast us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and bring us out.
38 And the serjeants reported these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans;
39 and they came and besought them; and when they had brought them out, they asked them to go away from the city.
40 And they went out of the prison, and entered into {cf15i the house of} Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.

22 And G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM multitude G3793 N-NSM rose up together G4911 V-2AAI-3S against G2596 PREP them G846 P-GPM : and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM magistrates G4755 N-NPM rent off G4048 V-AAP-NPM their G3588 T-APN clothes G2440 N-APN , and commanded G2753 V-IAI-3P to beat G4463 V-PAN them .
23 And G5037 PRT when they had laid G2007 V-2AAP-NPM many G4183 A-APF stripes G4127 N-APF upon them G846 P-DPM , they cast G906 V-2AAI-3P them into G1519 PREP prison G5438 N-ASF , charging G3853 V-AAP-NPM the G3588 T-DSM jailer G1200 N-DSM to keep G5083 V-PAN them G846 P-APM safely G806 ADV :

25 And G1161 CONJ at G2596 PREP midnight G3317 N-ASN Paul G3972 N-NSM and G2532 CONJ Silas G4609 N-NSM prayed G4336 V-PNP-NPM , and G2532 CONJ sang praises G5214 V-IAI-3P unto God G2316 N-ASM : and G1161 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM prisoners G1198 N-NPM heard G1874 V-INI-3P them G846 P-GPM .
26 And G1161 CONJ suddenly G869 ADV there was G1096 V-2ADI-3S a great G3173 A-NSM earthquake G4578 N-NSM , so that G5620 CONJ the G3588 T-APN foundations G2310 N-APN of G3588 T-GSN the G3588 T-GSN prison G1201 N-GSN were shaken G4531 V-APN : and G5037 PRT immediately G3916 ADV all G3956 A-NPF the G3588 T-NPF doors G2374 N-NPF were opened G455 V-API-3P , and G2532 CONJ every one G3956 A-GPM \'s bands G1199 N-NPN were loosed G447 V-API-3S .
27 And G1161 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM keeper of the prison G1200 N-NSM awaking out of his sleep G1096 V-2ADP-NSM , and G2532 CONJ seeing G1492 V-2AAP-NSM the G3588 T-GSF prison G5438 N-GSF doors G2374 N-APF open G455 V-RPP-APF , he drew out G4685 V-AMP-NSM his sword G3162 N-ASF , and would G3195 V-IAI-3S have killed G337 V-PAN himself G1438 F-3ASM , supposing G3543 V-PAP-NSM that G3588 T-APM the G3588 T-APM prisoners G1198 N-APM had been fled G1628 V-2RAN .
28 But G1161 CONJ Paul G3972 N-NSM cried G5455 V-AAI-3S with a loud G3173 A-DSF voice G5456 N-DSF , saying G3004 V-PAP-NSM , Do G4238 V-AAS-2S thyself G4572 F-2DSM no G3367 A-ASN harm G2556 A-ASN : for G1063 CONJ we are G2070 V-PXI-1P all G537 A-NPM here G1759 ADV .
29 Then G1161 CONJ he called G154 V-AAP-NSM for a light G5457 N-APN , and sprang in G1530 V-AAI-3S , and G2532 CONJ came G1096 V-2ADP-NSM trembling G1790 A-NSM , and fell down before G4363 V-2AAI-3S Paul G3972 N-DSM and G2532 CONJ Silas G4609 N-DSM ,
30 And G2532 CONJ brought G4254 V-2AAP-NSM them G846 P-APM out G1854 ADV , and said G5346 V-IXI-3S , Sirs G2962 N-VPM , what G5101 I-ASN must G1163 V-PQI-3S I G3165 P-1AS do G4160 V-PAN to G2443 CONJ be saved G4982 V-APS-1S ?
31 And G1161 CONJ they G3588 T-NPM said G2036 V-2AAI-3P , Believe G4100 V-AAM-2S on G1909 PREP the G3588 T-ASM Lord G2962 N-ASM Jesus G2424 N-ASM Christ G5547 N-ASM , and G2532 CONJ thou G4771 P-2NS shalt be saved G4982 V-FPI-2S , and G2532 CONJ thy G3588 T-NSM house G3624 N-NSM .
32 And G2532 CONJ they spake G2980 V-AAI-3P unto him G846 P-DSM the G3588 T-ASM word G3056 N-ASM of G3588 T-GSM the G3588 T-GSM Lord G2962 N-GSM , and G2532 CONJ to all G3956 A-DPM that G3588 T-DPM were in G1722 PREP his G3588 T-DSF house G3614 N-DSF .
33 And G2532 CONJ he took G3880 V-2AAP-NSM them G846 P-APM the G3588 T-DSF same G3588 T-DSF hour G5610 N-DSF of G3588 T-GSF the G3588 T-GSF night G3571 N-GSF , and washed G3068 V-AAI-3S their G575 PREP stripes G4127 PREP ; and G2532 CONJ was baptized G907 V-API-3S , he G846 P-NSM and G2532 CONJ all G3956 A-NPM his G846 P-GSM , straightway G3916 ADV .
34 And G5037 PRT when he had brought G321 V-2AAP-NSM them G846 P-APM into G1519 PREP his G3588 T-ASM house G3624 N-ASM , he set meat before G3908 V-AAI-3S them , and G2532 CONJ rejoiced G21 V-INI-3S , believing G4100 V-RAP-NSM in God G2316 N-DSM with all his house G3832 ADV .
35 And G1161 CONJ when it was G1096 V-2ADP-GSF day G2250 N-GSF , the G3588 T-NPM magistrates G4755 N-NPM sent G649 V-AAI-3P the G3588 T-APM sergeants G4465 N-APM , saying G3004 V-PAP-NPM , Let those men go G630 V-AAM-2S .
36 And G1161 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM keeper of the prison G1200 N-NSM told G518 V-AAI-3S this G3588 T-APM saying G3056 N-APM to G4314 PREP Paul G3972 N-ASM , The G3588 T-NPM magistrates G4755 N-NPM have sent G649 V-RAI-3P to G2443 CONJ let you go G630 V-APS-2P : now G3568 ADV therefore G3767 CONJ depart G1831 V-2AAP-NPM , and go G4198 V-PNM-2P in G1722 PREP peace G1515 N-DSF .
37 But G1161 CONJ Paul G3972 N-NSM said G5346 V-IXI-3S unto G4314 PREP them G846 P-APM , They have beaten G1194 V-AAP-NPM us G2248 P-1AP openly G1219 ADV uncondemned G178 A-APM , being G5225 V-PAP-APM Romans G4514 A-APM , and G444 N-APM have cast G906 V-2AAI-3P us into G1519 PREP prison G5438 N-ASF ; and G2532 CONJ now G3568 ADV do they thrust us out G1544 V-PAI-3P privily G2977 ADV ? nay G3756 PRT-N verily G1063 CONJ ; but G235 CONJ let them come G2064 V-2AAP-NPM themselves G848 and fetch us out G1806 V-2AAM-3P .
38 And G1161 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM sergeants G4465 N-NPM told G312 V-AAI-3P these G3588 T-APN words G4487 N-APN unto the G3588 T-DPM magistrates G4755 N-DPM : and G2532 CONJ they feared G5399 V-AOI-3P , when they heard G191 V-AAP-NPM that G3754 CONJ they were G1526 V-PXI-3P Romans G4514 A-NPM .
39 And G2532 CONJ they came G2064 V-2AAP-NPM and besought G3870 V-AAI-3P them G846 P-APM , and G2532 CONJ brought them out G1806 V-2AAP-NPM , and desired G2065 V-IAI-3P them to depart out G1831 V-2AAN of G3588 T-GSF the G3588 T-GSF city G4172 N-GSF .
40 And G1161 CONJ they went G1831 V-2AAP-NPM out of G1537 PREP the G3588 T-GSF prison G5438 N-GSF , and entered G1525 V-2AAI-3P into G1519 the house of Lydia G3070 N-ASF : and G2532 CONJ when they had seen G1492 V-2AAP-NPM the G3588 T-APM brethren G80 N-APM , they comforted G3870 V-AAI-3P them G846 P-APM , and G2532 CONJ departed G1831 V-2AAI-3P .
