Deuteronomy 31:9 (RV) Revised Version

1 And Moses went and spake these words unto all Israel.
2 And he said unto them, I am an hundred and twenty years old this day; I can no more go out and come in: and the LORD hath said unto me, Thou shalt not go over this Jordan.
3 The LORD thy God, he will go over before thee; he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: {cf15i and} Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the LORD hath spoken.
4 And the LORD shall do unto them as he did to Sihon and to Og, the kings of the Amorites, and unto their land; whom he destroyed.
5 And the LORD shall deliver them up before you, and ye shall do unto them according unto all the commandment which I have commanded you.
6 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be affrighted at them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
7 And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou shalt go with this people into the land which the LORD hath sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to inherit it.
8 And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.
9 And Moses wrote this law, and delivered it unto the priests the sons of Levi, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and unto all the elders of Israel.
10 And Moses commanded them, saying, At the end of {cf15i every} seven years, in the set time of the year of release, in the feast of tabernacles,
11 when all Israel is come to appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose, thou shalt read this law before all Israel in their hearing.
12 Assemble the people, the men and the women and the little ones, and thy stranger that is within thy gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the LORD your God, and observe to do all the words of this law;
13 and that their children, which have not known, may hear, and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as ye live in the land whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.
14 And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thy days approach that thou must die: call Joshua, and present yourselves in the tent of meeting, that I may give him a charge. And Moses and Joshua went, and presented themselves in the tent of meeting.
15 And the LORD appeared in the Tent in a pillar of cloud: and the pillar of cloud stood over the door of the Tent.
16 And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thou shalt sleep with thy fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a whoring after the strange gods of the land, whither they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them.
17 Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall come upon them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us because our God is not among us?
18 And I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evil which they shall have wrought, in that they are turned unto other gods.
19 Now therefore write ye this song for you, and teach thou it the children of Israel: put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the children of Israel.
20 For when I shall have brought them into the land which I sware unto their fathers, flowing with milk and honey; and they shall have eaten and filled themselves, and waxen fat; then will they turn unto other gods, and serve them, and despise me, and break my covenant.
21 And it shall come to pass, when many evils and troubles are come upon them, that this song shall testify before them as a witness; for it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of their seed: for I know their imagination which they go about, even now, before I have brought them into the land which I sware.
22 So Moses wrote this song the same day, and taught it the children of Israel.
23 And he gave Joshua the son of Nun a charge, and said, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou shalt bring the children of Israel into the land which I sware unto them: and I will be with thee.
24 And it came to pass, when Moses had made an end of writing the words of this law in a book, until they were finished,
25 that Moses commanded the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, saying,
26 Take this book of the law, and put it by the side of the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee.
27 For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have been rebellious against the LORD; and how much more after my death?
28 Assemble unto me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, that I may speak these words in their ears, and call heaven and earth to witness against them.
29 For I know that after my death ye will utterly corrupt yourselves, and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you; and evil will befall you in the latter days; because ye will do that which is evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger through the work of your hands.
30 And Moses spake in the ears of all the assembly of Israel the words of this song, until they were finished.
1 And Moses H4872 went H1980 W-VQY3MS and spoke H1696 W-VPY3MS these H428 D-DPRO-3MP words H1697 AMP unto H413 PREP all H3605 NMS Israel H3478 LMS .
2 And he said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS them , I H595 PPRO-1MS am a hundred H3967 MFS and twenty H6242 W-MMP years H8141 NFS old H1121 this day H3117 D-AMS ; I can H3201 no H3808 NADV more H5750 ADV go out H3318 and come in H935 : also the LORD H3068 W-EDS hath said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-1MS me , Thou shalt not H3808 NADV go over H5674 this H2088 D-PMS Jordan H3383 D-EFS .
3 The LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS , he H1931 PPRO-3MS will go over H5674 before H6440 L-CMP-2MS thee , and he H1931 PPRO-3MS will destroy H8045 these H428 D-DPRO-3MP nations H1471 D-NMP from before H6440 thee , and thou shalt possess H3423 them : and Joshua H3091 , he H1931 PPRO-3MS shall go over H5674 before H6440 L-CMP-2MS thee , as H834 K-RPRO the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS hath said H1696 VPQ3MS .
4 And the LORD H3068 EDS shall do H6213 W-VQQ3MS unto them as H834 RPRO he did H6213 W-VQQ3MS to Sihon H5511 and to Og H5747 , kings H4428 CMP of the Amorites H567 D-TMS , and unto the land H776 of them , whom H834 RPRO he destroyed H8045 .
5 And the LORD H3068 EDS shall give them up H5414 before your face H6440 , that ye may do H6213 unto them according unto all H3605 the commandments H4687 which H834 RPRO I have commanded H6680 you .
6 Be strong H2388 and of a good courage H553 , fear H3372 not H408 NPAR , nor H408 ADV be afraid H6206 of M-CMP-3MP them : for H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS , he H1931 PPRO-3MS it is that doth go H1980 D-VQPMS with H5973 PREP-2FS thee ; he will not H3808 NADV fail H7503 thee , nor H3808 W-NADV forsake H5800 thee .
7 And Moses H4872 called H7121 W-VQY3MS unto Joshua H3091 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him in the sight H5869 of all H3605 CMS Israel H3478 , Be strong H2388 and of a good courage H553 : for H3588 CONJ thou H859 PPRO-2MS must go H935 VQY2MS with H854 PREP this H2088 D-PMS people H5971 unto H413 PREP the land H776 D-GFS which H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS hath sworn H7650 unto their fathers H1 to give H5414 L-VQFC them ; and thou H859 PPRO-2FS shalt cause them to inherit H5157 it .
8 And the LORD H3068 W-EDS , he H1931 PPRO-3MS it is that doth go H1980 D-VQPMS before H6440 L-CMP-2MS thee ; he H1931 PPRO-3MS will be H1961 VQY3MS with thee H5973 PREP-2FS , he will not H3808 NADV fail H7503 thee , neither H3808 W-NADV forsake H5800 thee : fear H3372 VQY3MS not H3808 NADV , neither H3808 W-NADV be dismayed H2865 .
9 And Moses H4872 wrote H3789 this H2063 D-DFS law H8451 , and delivered H5414 it unto H413 PREP the priests H3548 the sons H1121 of Levi H3878 , which bore H5375 the ark H727 of the covenant H1285 NFS of the LORD H3068 EDS , and unto H413 PREP all H3605 NMS the elders H2205 of Israel H3478 LMS .
10 And Moses H4872 commanded H6680 W-VPY3MS them , saying H559 L-VQFC , At the end H7093 M-CMS of every seven H7651 MFS years H8141 NFP , in the solemnity H4150 of the year H8141 of release H8059 , in the feast H2282 of tabernacles H5521 ,
11 When all H3605 NMS Israel H3478 is come H935 to appear H7200 before H6440 CMP the LORD H3068 EDS thy God H430 CMP-2MS in the place H4725 which H834 RPRO he shall choose H977 , thou shalt read H7121 VQI2MS this H2063 D-DFS law H8451 before H5048 all H3605 NMS Israel H3478 in their hearing H241 .
12 Gather the people together H6950 , men H376 , and women H802 , and children H2945 , and thy stranger H1616 that H834 RPRO is within thy gates H8179 , that H4616 L-CONJ they may hear H8085 VQY3MP , and that H4616 they may learn H3925 , and fear H3372 the LORD H3068 EDS your God H430 , and observe H8104 to do H6213 L-VQFC all H3605 NMS the words H1697 CMP of this H2063 law H8451 :
13 And that their children H1121 , which H834 RPRO have not H3808 ADV known H3045 VQQ3MP any thing , may hear H8085 VQY3MP , and learn H3925 to fear H3372 the LORD H3068 EDS your God H430 , as long as NMS ye H859 PPRO-2MS live H2416 NMP in H5921 PREP the land H127 D-NFS whither H834 RPRO ye H859 PPRO-2MS go over H5674 Jordan H3383 D-EFS to possess H3423 it .
14 And the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , Behold H2005 IJEC , thy days H3117 CMP-2MS approach H7126 that thou must die H4191 L-VQFC : call H7121 VQI2MP Joshua H3091 , and present yourselves H3320 in the tabernacle H168 of the congregation H4150 NMS , that I may give him a charge H6680 . And Moses H4872 and Joshua H3091 went H1980 W-VQY3MS , and presented themselves H3320 in the tabernacle H168 of the congregation H4150 .
15 And the LORD H3068 EDS appeared H7200 W-VNY3MS in the tabernacle H168 in a pillar H5982 of a cloud H6051 NMS : and the pillar H5982 of the cloud H6051 stood H5975 W-VQY3MS over H5921 PREP the door H6607 CMS of the tabernacle H168 .
16 And the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , Behold H2009 , thou shalt sleep H7901 with H5973 PREP thy fathers H1 ; and this H2088 D-PMS people H5971 will rise up H6965 , and go a whoring H2181 after H310 PREP the gods H430 CDP of the strangers H5236 of the land H776 D-GFS , whither H834 RPRO they H1931 PPRO-3MS go H935 to be among H7130 them , and will forsake H5800 me , and break H6565 my covenant H1285 B-CFS-1MS which H834 RPRO I have made H3772 VQQ1MS with H854 PREP-3MS them .
17 Then my anger H639 CMS-1MS shall be kindled H2734 against them in that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 , and I will forsake H5800 them , and I will hide H5641 my face H6440 CMP-1MS from H4480 them , and they shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS devoured H398 , and many H7227 AFP evils H7451 and troubles H6869 shall befall H4672 them ; so that they will say H559 in that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS , Are not H3808 I-NADV these H428 evils H7451 come upon H4672 us , because H5921 PREP our God H430 is not H369 NPAR among H7130 us ?
18 And I H595 W-PPRO-1MS will surely hide H5641 my face H6440 NMP-1MS in that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS for H5921 PREP all H3605 NMS the evils H7451 D-AFS which H834 RPRO they shall have wrought H6213 VQQ3MS , in that H3588 CONJ they are turned H6437 unto H413 PREP other H312 gods H430 EDP .
19 Now H6258 W-ADV therefore write H3789 ye this H2063 D-DFS song H7892 for you , and teach H3925 it the children H1121 of Israel H3478 : put H7760 it in their mouths H6310 B-CMS-3MP , that H4616 L-CONJ this H2063 D-DFS song H7892 may be H1961 VQY3FS a witness H5707 L-NMS for me against the children H1121 of Israel H3478 LMS .
20 For H3588 CONJ when I shall have brought H935 them into H413 PREP the land H127 D-NFS which H834 RPRO I swore H7650 unto their fathers H1 , that floweth H2100 with milk H2461 NMS and honey H1706 ; and they shall have eaten H398 W-VQQ3MS and filled themselves H7646 , and waxen fat H1878 ; then will they turn H6437 unto H413 PREP other H312 AMP gods H430 EDP , and serve H5647 them , and provoke H5006 me , and break H6565 my covenant H1285 .
21 And it shall come to pass H1961 W-VQQ3MS , when H3588 CONJ many H7227 AFP evils H7451 and troubles H6869 are befallen H4672 them , that this H2063 D-DFS song H7892 shall testify H6030 against H6440 L-CMP-3MS them as a witness H5707 L-NMS ; for H3588 CONJ it shall not H3808 NADV be forgotten H7911 out of the mouths H6310 M-CMS of their seed H2233 NMS-3MS : for H3588 CONJ I know H3045 VQY1MS their imagination H3336 which H834 RPRO they H1931 PPRO-3MS go about H6213 VQPMS , even now H3117 D-AMS , before H2962 B-ADV I have brought H935 them into H413 PREP the land H776 D-GFS which H834 RPRO I swore H7650 .
22 Moses H4872 therefore wrote H3789 this H2063 D-DFS song H7892 the same H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS , and taught H3925 it the children H1121 of Israel H3478 LMS .
23 And he gave H6680 W-VPY3MS Joshua H3091 the son H1121 of Nun H5126 a charge , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Be strong H2388 and of a good courage H553 : for H3588 CONJ thou H859 PPRO-2MS shalt bring H935 VHY2MS the children H1121 of Israel H3478 into H413 PREP the land H776 D-GFS which H834 RPRO I swore H7650 unto them : and I H595 W-PPRO-1MS will be H1961 VQY1MS with H5973 PREP-2FS thee .
24 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , when Moses H4872 had made an end H3615 of writing H3789 the words H1697 CMP of this H2063 D-DFS law H8451 in H5921 PREP a book H5612 CMS , until H5704 PREP they were finished H8552 ,
25 That Moses H4872 commanded H6680 W-VPY3MS the Levites H3881 , which bore H5375 the ark H727 of the covenant H1285 NFS of the LORD H3068 EDS , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
26 Take H3947 this H2088 D-PMS book H5612 CMS of the law H8451 , and put H7760 it in the side H6654 of the ark H727 of the covenant H1285 NFS of the LORD H3068 EDS your God H430 , that it may be H1961 there H8033 ADV for a witness H5707 against thee .
27 For H3588 CONJ I H595 PPRO-1MS know H3045 VQY1MS thy rebellion H4805 , and thy stiff H7186 neck H6203 : behold H2005 IJEC , while I am yet H5750 alive H2416 AMS with H5973 PREP-3MP you this day H3117 D-AMS , ye have been H1961 rebellious H4784 against H5973 PREP the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS ; and how H3588 CONJ much more H637 W-CONJ after H310 PREP my death H4194 ?
28 Gather H6950 unto H413 PREP-1MS me all H3605 NMS the elders H2205 of your tribes H7626 , and your officers H7860 , that I may speak H1696 W-VPI1MS these H428 D-DPRO-3MP words H1697 AMP in their ears H241 , and call H5749 heaven H8064 D-NMD and earth H776 D-GFS to record against them .
29 For H3588 CONJ I know H3045 VQY1MS that after H310 PREP my death H4194 VQQ3MS ye will utterly corrupt H7843 yourselves , and turn aside H5493 from H4480 PREP the way H1870 D-NMS which H834 RPRO I have commanded H6680 you ; and evil H7451 will befall H7122 you in the latter H319 days H3117 D-NMP ; because H3588 CONJ ye will do H6213 evil H7451 in the sight H5869 B-CMP of the LORD H3068 EDS , to provoke him to anger H3707 through the work H4639 of your hands H3027 .
30 And Moses H4872 spoke H1696 W-VPY3MS in the ears H241 of all H3605 NMS the congregation H6951 of Israel H3478 the words H1697 CMP of this H2063 D-DFS song H7892 , until H5704 PREP they were ended H8552 .
