Esther 9:19 (YLT) Young's Literal Translation

1 And in the twelfth month -- it is the month of Adar -- on the thirteenth day of it, in which the word of the king, even his law, hath come to be done, in the day that the enemies of the Jews had hoped to rule over them, and it is turned that the Jews rule over those hating them --
2 the Jews have been assembled in their cities, in all provinces of the king Ahasuerus, to put forth a hand on those seeking their evil, and no man hath stood in their presence, for their fear hath fallen on all the peoples.
3 And all heads of the provinces, and the lieutenants, and the governors, and those doing the work that the king hath, are lifting up the Jews, for a fear of Mordecai hath fallen upon them;
4 for great is Mordecai in the house of the king, and his fame is going into all the provinces, for the man Mordecai is going on and becoming great.
5 And the Jews smite among all their enemies -- a smiting of the sword, and slaughter, and destruction -- and do with those hating them according to their pleasure,
6 and in Shushan the palace have the Jews slain and destroyed five hundred men;
7 and Parshandatha, and Dalphon, and Aspatha,
8 and Poratha, and Adalia, and Aridatha,
9 and Parmashta, and Arisai, and Aridai, and Vajezatha,
10 ten sons of Haman son of Hammedatha, adversary of the Jews, they have slain, and on the prey they have not put forth their hand.
11 On that day hath come the number of the slain in Shushan the palace before the king,
12 and the king saith to Esther the queen, `In Shushan the palace have the Jews slain and destroyed five hundred men, and the ten sons of Haman; in the rest of the provinces of the king what have they done? and what is thy petition? and it is given to thee; and what thy request again? and it is done.`
13 And Esther saith, `If to the king it be good, let it be given also to-morrow, to the Jews who are in Shushan, to do according to the law of to-day; and the ten sons of Haman they hang on the tree.`
14 And the king saith -- `to be done so;` and a law is given in Shushan, and the ten sons of Haman they have hanged.
15 And the Jews who are in Shushan are assembled also on the fourteenth day of the month of Adar, and they slay in Shushan three hundred men, and on the prey they have not put forth their hand.
16 And the rest of the Jews, who are in the provinces of the king, have been assembled, even to stand for their life, and to rest from their enemies, and to slay among those hating them five and seventy thousand, and on the prey they have not put forth their hand;
17 on the thirteenth day of the month of Adar, even to rest on the fourteenth of it, and to make it a day of banquet and of joy.
18 And the Jews who are in Shushan have been assembled, on the thirteenth day of it, and on the fourteenth of it, even to rest on the fifteenth of it, and to make it a day of banquet and of joy.
19 Therefore the Jews of the villages, who are dwelling in cities of the villages, are making the fourteenth day of the month of Adar -- joy and banquet, and a good day, and of sending portions one to another.
20 And Mordecai writeth these things, and sendeth letters unto all the Jews who are in all provinces of the king Ahasuerus, who are near and who are far off,
21 to establish on them, to be keeping the fourteenth day of the month of Adar, and the fifteenth day of it, in every year and year,
22 as days on which the Jews have rested from their enemies, and the month that hath been turned to them from sorrow to joy, and from mourning to a good day, to make them days of banquet and of joy, and of sending portions one to another, and gifts to the needy.
23 And the Jews have received that which they had begun to do, and that which Mordecai hath written unto them,
24 because Haman son of Hammedatha the Agagite, adversary of all the Jews, had devised concerning the Jews to destroy them, and had caused to fall Pur -- that is the lot -- to crush them and to destroy them;
25 and in her coming in before the king, he said with the letter, `Let his evil device that he devised against the Jews turn back upon his own head,` and they have hanged him and his sons on the tree,
26 therefore they have called these days Purim -- by the name of the lot -- therefore, because of all the words of this letter, and what they have seen concerning this, and what hath come unto them,
27 the Jews have established and received upon them, and upon their seed, and upon all those joined unto them, and it doth not pass away, to be keeping these two days according to their writing, and according to their season, in every year and year;
28 and these days are remembered and kept in every generation and generation, family and family, province and province, and city and city, and these days of Purim do not pass away from the midst of the Jews, and their memorial is not ended from their seed.
29 And Esther the queen, daughter of Abihail, writeth, and Mordecai the Jew, with all might, to establish this second letter of Purim,
30 and he sendeth letters unto all the Jews, unto the seven and twenty and a hundred provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus -- words of peace and truth --
31 to establish these days of Purim, in their seasons, as Mordecai the Jew hath established on them, and Esther the queen, and as they had established on themselves, and on their seed -- matters of the fastings, and of their cry.
32 And a saying of Esther hath established these matters of Purim, and it is written in the Book.

2 The Jews H3064 gathered themselves together H6950 in their cities H5892 throughout all H3605 NMS the provinces H4082 of the king H4428 D-NMS Ahasuerus H325 , to lay H7971 hand H3027 NFS on such as sought H1245 their hurt H7451 : and no H3808 NADV man H376 W-NMS could withstand H5975 them ; for H3588 CONJ the fear H6343 of them fell H5307 upon H5921 PREP all H3605 NMS people H5971 .
3 And all H3605 W-CMS the rulers H8269 CMP of the provinces H4082 , and the lieutenants H323 , and the deputies H6346 , and officers H6213 of H834 RPRO the king H4428 , helped H5375 the Jews H3064 ; because H3588 CONJ the fear H6343 of Mordecai H4782 fell H5307 upon H5921 PREP-3MP them .
4 For H3588 CONJ Mordecai H4782 was great H1419 in the king H4428 D-NMS \'s house H1004 B-CMS , and his fame H8089 went out H1980 VQPMS throughout all H3605 B-CMS the provinces H4082 : for H3588 CONJ this man H376 D-NMS Mordecai H4782 waxed H1980 VQPMS greater and greater H1419 .
5 Thus the Jews H3064 smote H5221 W-VHY3MP all H3605 B-CMS their enemies H341 with the stroke H4347 of the sword H2719 GFS , and slaughter H2027 , and destruction H12 , and did H6213 what they would H7522 unto those that hated H8130 them .
6 And in Shushan H7800 the palace H1002 the Jews H3064 slew H2026 and destroyed H6 five H2568 BFS hundred H3967 BFP men H376 NMS .
7 And Parshandatha H6577 , and Dalphon H1813 , and Aspatha H630 ,
8 And Poratha H6334 , and Adalia H118 , and Aridatha H743 ,
9 And Parmashta H6534 , and Arisai H747 , and Aridai H742 , and Vajezatha H2055 ,
10 The ten H6235 sons H1121 of Haman H2001 the son H1121 of Hammedatha H4099 , the enemy H6887 of the Jews H3064 , slew H2026 they ; but on the spoil H961 laid H7971 they not H3808 NADV their hand H3027 .
11 On that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS the number H4557 CMS of those that were slain H2026 in Shushan H7800 the palace H1002 was brought H935 VQPMS before H6440 L-CMP the king H4428 .
12 And the king H4428 D-NMS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto Esther H635 the queen H4436 , The Jews H3064 have slain H2026 and destroyed H6 five H2568 BFS hundred H3967 BFP men H376 NMS in Shushan H7800 the palace H1002 , and the ten H6235 sons H1121 of Haman H2001 ; what H4100 IPRO have they done H6213 VQQ3MP in the rest H7605 of the king H4428 D-NMS \'s provinces H4082 ? now what H4100 W-IPRO is thy petition H7596 ? and it shall be granted H5414 thee : or what H4100 W-IPRO is thy request H1246 further H5750 ADV ? and it shall be done H6213 .
13 Then said H559 W-VQY3FS Esther H635 , If H518 PART it please H2895 the king H4428 D-NMS , let it be granted H5414 to the Jews H3064 which H834 RPRO are in Shushan H7800 to do H6213 L-VQFC tomorrow H4279 NMS also H1571 CONJ according unto this day H3117 D-AMS \'s decree H1881 , and let Haman H2001 \'s ten H6235 sons H1121 be hanged H8518 upon H5921 PREP the gallows H6086 .
14 And the king H4428 D-NMS commanded H559 W-VQY3MS it so H3651 ADV to be done H6213 : and the decree H1881 was given H5414 at Shushan H7800 ; and they hanged H8518 Haman H2001 \'s ten H6235 sons H1121 .
15 For the Jews H3064 that H834 RPRO were in Shushan H7800 gathered themselves together H6950 on the fourteenth H702 MMS day H3117 B-NMS also H1571 CONJ of the month H2320 Adar H143 , and slew H2026 three H7969 BFS hundred H3967 BFP men H376 NMS at Shushan H7800 ; but on the prey H961 they laid H7971 not H3808 NADV their hand H3027 .
16 But the other H7605 Jews H3064 that H834 RPRO were in the king H4428 D-NMS \'s provinces H4082 gathered themselves together H6950 , and stood H5975 for H5921 PREP their lives H5315 CFS-3MP , and had rest H5117 from their enemies H341 , and slew H2026 of their foes H8130 seventy H7657 W-MMP and five H2568 thousand H505 MMS , but they laid H7971 not H3808 NADV their hands H3027 on the prey H961 ,
17 On the thirteenth H7969 NFS day H3117 B-NMS of the month H2320 Adar H143 ; and on the fourteenth H702 day of the same rested H5117 they , and made H6213 it a day H3117 B-NMS of feasting H4960 NMS and gladness H8057 .
18 But the Jews H3064 that H834 RPRO were at Shushan H7800 assembled together H6950 on the thirteenth H7969 day thereof , and on the fourteenth H702 thereof ; and on the fifteenth H2568 day of the same they rested H5117 , and made H6213 it a day H3117 NMS of feasting H4960 NMS and gladness H8057 .
19 Therefore H5921 PREP the Jews H3064 of the villages H6521 , that dwelt H3427 in the unwalled H6519 towns H5892 B-CFP , made H6213 the fourteenth H702 MMS day H3117 NMS of the month H2320 Adar H143 a day of gladness H8057 and feasting H4960 , and a good H2896 AMS day H3117 NUM-MS , and of sending H4916 portions H4490 one H376 NMS to another H7453 L-CMS-3MS .
20 And Mordecai H4782 wrote H3789 these H428 D-DPRO-3MP things H1697 AMP , and sent H7971 W-VQY3MS letters H5612 unto H413 PREP all H3605 NMS the Jews H3064 that H834 RPRO were in all H3605 NMS the provinces H4082 of the king H4428 D-NMS Ahasuerus H325 , both nigh H7138 and far H7350 ,
21 To establish H6965 this among H5921 PREP-3MP them , that they should H1961 keep H6213 the fourteenth H702 MMS day H3117 NMS of the month H2320 Adar H143 , and the fifteenth H2568 day H3117 NMS of the same , yearly H3605 B-CMS ,
22 As the days H3117 wherein H834 RPRO the Jews H3064 rested H5117 from their enemies H341 , and the month H2320 which H834 RPRO was turned H2015 VNQ3MS unto them from sorrow H3015 to joy H8057 , and from mourning H60 into a good H2896 AMS day H3117 L-NMS : that they should make H6213 L-VQFC them days H3117 CMP of feasting H4960 NMS and joy H8057 , and of sending H4916 portions H4490 one H376 NMS to another H7453 L-CMS-3MS , and gifts H4979 to the poor H34 .
23 And the Jews H3064 undertook H6901 to do H6213 L-VQFC as H834 RPRO they had begun H2490 , and as H834 RPRO Mordecai H4782 had written H3789 CMS unto H413 them ;
24 Because H3588 CONJ Haman H2001 the son H1121 of Hammedatha H4099 , the Agagite H91 , the enemy H6887 of all H3605 NMS the Jews H3064 , had devised H2803 against H5921 PREP the Jews H3064 to destroy H6 them , and had cast H5307 Pur H6332 , that H1931 PPRO-3MS is , the lot H1486 D-NMS , to consume H2000 them , and to destroy H6 them ;
25 But when Esther came H935 before H6440 L-CMP the king H4428 D-NMS , he commanded H559 VQQ3MS by H5973 PREP letters H5612 that his wicked H7451 D-AFS device H4284 , which H834 RPRO he devised H2803 against H5921 PREP the Jews H3064 , should return H7725 VQY3MS upon H5921 PREP his own head H7218 CMS-3MS , and that he and his sons H1121 CMP-3MS should be hanged H8518 on H5921 PREP the gallows H6086 .
26 Wherefore H5921 PREP they called H7121 these H428 D-DPRO-3MP days H3117 Purim H6332 after H5921 PREP the name H8034 CMS of Pur H6332 . Therefore H5921 PREP for H5921 PREP all H3605 NMS the words H1697 CMP of this H2063 D-DFS letter H107 , and of that which H4100 they had seen H7200 VQQ3MP concerning H5921 PREP this matter H3602 ADV , and which H4100 W-IGAT had come H5060 unto H413 them ,
27 The Jews H3064 ordained H6965 , and took H6901 upon H5921 PREP-3MP them , and upon H5921 W-PREP their seed H2233 CMS-3MP , and upon H5921 W-PREP all H3605 NMS such as joined themselves H3867 unto H5921 PREP-3MP them , so as it should not H3808 W-NPAR fail H5674 , that they would keep H6213 these H428 D-DPRO-3MP two H8147 ONUM days H3117 D-NMP according to their writing H3791 , and according H2165 to their H3605 appointed H3605 every H3605 year H8141 NFS ;
28 And that these H428 D-DPRO-3MP days H3117 should be remembered H2142 and kept H6213 throughout every H3605 B-CMS generation H1755 , every family H4940 , every province H4082 , and every city H5892 ; and that these H428 D-DPRO-3MP days H3117 of Purim H6332 should not H3808 NADV fail H5674 from among H8432 the Jews H3064 , nor H3808 NADV the memorial H2143 of them perish H5486 from their seed H2233 .
29 Then Esther H635 the queen H4436 , the daughter H1323 of Abihail H32 , and Mordecai H4782 the Jew H3064 , wrote H3789 with H854 PREP all H3605 NMS authority H8633 , to confirm H6965 this H2063 D-DFS second H8145 letter H107 of Purim H6332 .
30 And he sent H7971 W-VQY3MS the letters H5612 unto H413 PREP all H3605 NMS the Jews H3064 , to H413 PREP the hundred H3967 twenty H6242 W-MMP and seven H7651 MFS provinces H4082 of the kingdom H4438 CFP of Ahasuerus H325 , with words H1697 CMP of peace H7965 NMS and truth H571 ,
31 To confirm H6965 these H428 D-DPRO-3MP days H3117 CMP of Purim H6332 in their times H2165 appointed , according as H834 K-RPRO Mordecai H4782 the Jew H3064 and Esther H635 the queen H4436 had enjoined H6965 them , and as H834 they had decreed H6965 for H5921 PREP themselves H5315 CFS-3MP and for H5921 PREP their seed H2233 CMS-3MP , the matters H1697 CMP of the fastings H6685 and their cry H2201 .
32 And the decree H3982 of Esther H635 confirmed H6965 these H428 D-DPRO-3MP matters H1697 CMP of Purim H6332 ; and it was written H3789 in the book H5612 .
