Genesis 18:30 (YLT) Young's Literal Translation

1 And Jehovah appeareth unto him among the oaks of Mamre, and he is sitting at the opening of the tent, about the heat of the day;
2 and he lifteth up his eyes and looketh, and lo, three men standing by him, and he seeth, and runneth to meet them from the opening of the tent, and boweth himself towards the earth,
3 And he saith, `My Lord, if, I pray thee, I have found grace in thine eyes, do not, I pray thee, pass on from thy servant;
4 let, I pray thee, a little water be accepted, and wash your feet, and recline under the tree;
5 and I bring a piece of bread, and support ye your heart; afterwards pass on, for therefore have ye passed over unto your servant;` and they say, `So mayest thou do as thou has spoken.`
6 And Abraham hasteth towards the tent, unto Sarah, and saith, `Hasten three measures of flour-meal, knead, and make cakes;`
7 and Abraham ran unto the herd, and taketh a son of the herd, tender and good, and giveth unto the young man, and he hasteth to prepare it;
8 and he taketh butter and milk, and the son of the herd which he hath prepared, and setteth before them; and he is standing by them under the tree, and they do eat.
9 And they say unto him, `Where is Sarah thy wife?` and he saith, `Lo -- in the tent;`
10 and he saith, `returning I return unto thee, about the time of life, and lo, to Sarah thy wife a son.`
11 And Sarah is hearkening at the opening of the tent, which is behind him;
12 and Abraham and Sarah are aged, entering into days -- the way of women hath ceased to be to Sarah;
13 and Sarah laugheth in her heart, saying, `After I have waxed old I have had pleasure! -- my lord also is old!`
14 And Jehovah saith unto Abraham, `Why is this? Sarah hath laughed, saying, Is it true really -- I bear -- and I am aged? Is any thing too wonderful for Jehovah? at the appointed time I return unto thee, about the time of life, and Sarah hath a son.`
15 And Sarah denieth, saying, `I did not laugh;` for she hath been afraid; and He saith, `Nay, but thou didst laugh.`
16 And the men rise from thence, and look on the face of Sodom, and Abraham is going with them to send them away;
17 and Jehovah said, `Am I concealing from Abraham that which I am doing,
18 and Abraham certainly becometh a nation great and mighty, and blessed in him have been all nations of the earth?
19 for I have known him, that he commandeth his children, and his house after him (and they have kept the way of Jehovah), to do righteousness and judgment, that Jehovah may bring on Abraham that which He hath spoken concerning him.`
20 And Jehovah saith, `The cry of Sodom and Gomorrah -- because great; and their sin -- because exceeding grievous:
21 I go down now, and see whether according to its cry which is coming unto Me they have done completely -- and if not -- I know;`
22 and the men turn from thence, and go towards Sodom; and Abraham is yet standing before Jehovah.
23 And Abraham draweth nigh and saith, `Dost Thou also consume righteous with wicked?
24 peradventure there are fifty righteous in the midst of the city; dost Thou also consume, and not bear with the place for the sake of the fifty -- the righteous who are in its midst?
25 Far be it from Thee to do according to this thing, to put to death the righteous with the wicked; that it hath been -- as the righteous so the wicked -- far be it from Thee; doth the Judge of all the earth not do justice?`
26 And Jehovah saith, `If I find in Sodom fifty righteous in the midst of the city, then have I borne with all the place for their sake.`
27 And Abraham answereth and saith, `Lo, I pray thee, I have willed to speak unto the Lord, and I -- dust and ashes;
28 peradventure there are lacking five of the fifty righteous -- dost Thou destroy for five the whole of the city?` and He saith, `I destroy it not, if I find there forty and five.`
29 And he addeth again to speak unto Him and saith, `Peradventure there are found there forty?` and He saith, `I do it not, because of the forty.`
30 And he saith, `Let it not be, I Pray thee, displeasing to the Lord, and I speak: peradventure there are found there thirty?` and He saith, `I do it not, if I find there thirty.`
31 And he saith, `Lo, I pray thee, I have willed to speak unto the Lord: peradventure there are found there twenty?` and He saith, `I do not destroy it, because of the twenty.`
32 And he saith, `Let it not be, I pray Thee, displeasing to the Lord, and I speak only this time: peradventure there are found there ten?` and He saith, `I do not destroy it, because of the ten.`
33 And Jehovah goeth on, when He hath finished speaking unto Abraham, and Abraham hath turned back to his place.
1 And the LORD H3068 EDS appeared H7200 W-VNY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him in the plains H436 B-CMP of Mamre H4471 EFS : and he H1931 W-PPRO-3MS sat H3427 VQPMS in the tent H168 door H6607 in the heat H2527 of the day H3117 D-NMS ;
2 And he lifted up H5375 W-VQY3MS his eyes H5869 CMD-3MS and looked H7200 W-VIY3MS , and , lo H2009 IJEC , three H7969 NFS men H376 NMP stood H5324 by H5921 PREP-3MS him : and when he saw H7200 W-VIY3MS them , he ran H7323 to meet H7125 them from the tent door H6607 , and bowed himself H7812 toward the ground H776 NFS-3FS ,
3 And said H559 W-VQY3MS , My Lord H136 , if H518 PART now H4994 IJEC I have found H4672 VQQ1MS favor H2580 NMS in thy sight H5869 , pass not away H5674 , I pray thee H4994 IJEC , from M-PREP thy servant H5650 :
4 Let a little H4592 AMS water H4325 OMD , I pray you H4994 IJEC , be fetched H3947 , and wash H7364 your feet H7272 , and rest yourselves H8172 under H8478 NMS the tree H6086 :
5 And I will fetch H3947 a morsel H6595 of bread H3899 NMS , and comfort H5582 ye your hearts H3820 ; after that H310 ADV ye shall pass on H5674 : for H3588 CONJ therefore H3651 ADV are ye come H5674 to H5921 PREP your servant H5650 . And they said H559 W-VQY3MP , So H3651 ADV do H6213 VQY2MS , as H834 K-RPRO thou hast said H1696 .
6 And Abraham H85 hastened H4116 into the tent H168 unto H413 PREP Sarah H8283 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Make ready quickly H4116 three H7969 BFS measures H5429 of fine H5560 meal H7058 , knead H3888 it , and make H6213 cakes upon the hearth H5692 .
7 And Abraham H85 ran H7323 VQPMS unto H413 PREP the herd H1241 D-NMS , and fetched H3947 W-VQY3MS a calf H1121 tender H7390 and good H2896 , and gave H5414 W-VQQ3MS it unto H413 PREP a young man H5288 ; and he hasted H4116 to dress H6213 L-VQFC it .
8 And he took H3947 W-VQY3MS butter H2529 , and milk H2461 , and the calf H1121 W-CMS which H834 RPRO he had dressed H6213 VQQ3MS , and set H5414 W-VQQ3MS it before H6440 L-CMP-3MP them ; and he H1931 W-PPRO-3MS stood H5975 by H5921 PREP-3MP them under H8478 NMS the tree H6086 AMS , and they did eat H398 .
9 And they said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him , Where H346 IGAT is Sarah H8283 thy wife H802 CFS-2MS ? And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Behold H2009 IJEC , in the tent H168 .
10 And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , I will certainly return H7725 unto H413 PREP-2MS thee according to the time H6256 KD-NMS of life H2416 AFS ; and , lo H2009 IJEC , Sarah H8283 thy wife H802 CFS-2MS shall have a son H1121 . And Sarah H8283 heard H8085 it in the tent H168 door H6607 CMS , which H1931 W-PPRO-3MS was behind H310 him .
11 Now Abraham H85 and Sarah H8283 were old H2205 AMP and well stricken H935 in age H3117 BD-NMP ; and it ceased H2308 to be H1961 with Sarah H8283 after the manner H734 of women H802 .
12 Therefore Sarah H8283 laughed H6711 within H7130 herself , saying H559 L-VQFC , After H310 PREP I am waxed old H1086 shall I have H1961 pleasure H5730 , my lord H113 being old H2204 also ?
13 And the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Abraham H85 , Wherefore H4100 L-IPRO did Sarah H8283 laugh H6711 , saying H559 W-VQY3MS , Shall I of a surety H552 bear a child H3205 , which H589 W-PPRO-1MS am old H2204 ?
14 Is any thing H1697 VQPMS too hard H6381 for the LORD H3068 ? At the time appointed H4150 I will return H7725 VQY1MS unto H413 PREP-2MS thee , according to the time H6256 KD-NMS of life H2416 AFS , and Sarah H8283 shall have a son H1121 .
15 Then Sarah H8283 denied H3584 , saying H559 W-VQY3MS , I laughed H6711 not H3808 NADV ; for H3588 CONJ she was afraid H3372 . And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Nay H3808 NADV ; but H3588 CONJ thou didst laugh H6711 .
16 And the men H376 rose up H6965 from thence H8033 M-ADV , and looked H8259 toward H5921 PREP Sodom H5467 TFS : and Abraham H85 went H1980 with H5973 PREP-3MP them to bring them on the way H7971 .
17 And the LORD H3068 said H559 , Shall I H589 PPRO-1MS hide H3680 from Abraham H85 that thing which H834 RPRO I H589 PPRO-1MS do H6213 ;
18 Seeing that Abraham H85 shall surely become H1961 a great H1419 AMS and mighty H6099 nation H1471 L-NMS , and all H3605 NMS the nations H1471 of the earth H776 D-GFS shall be blessed H1288 W-VNQ3MP in him ?
19 For H3588 CONJ I know H3045 him , that L-CONJ he will command H6680 his children H1121 CMP-3MS and his household H1004 NMS-3MS after H310 PREP-3MS him , and they shall keep H8104 the way H1870 NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , to do H6213 L-VQFC justice H6666 NFS and judgment H4941 W-NMS ; that H4616 L-CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS may bring H935 upon H5921 PREP Abraham H85 3 H853 that which H834 RPRO he hath spoken H1696 VPQ3MS of H5921 PREP him .
20 And the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS , Because H3588 CONJ the cry H2201 of Sodom H5467 TFS and Gomorrah H6017 W-LFS is great H7231 , and because H3588 CONJ their sin H2403 is very H3966 ADV grievous H3513 ;
21 I will go down H3381 now H4994 IJEC , and see H7200 whether they have done H6213 VQQ3MP altogether H3617 according to the cry H6818 of it , which is come H935 D-AFS unto H413 PREP-1MS me ; and if H518 W-PART not H3808 NADV , I will know H3045 .
22 And the men H376 D-NMP turned their faces H6437 from thence H8033 M-ADV , and went H1980 W-VQY3MP toward Sodom H5467 LFS : but Abraham H85 stood H5975 yet H5750 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
23 And Abraham H85 drew near H5066 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Wilt thou also H637 CONJ destroy H5595 the righteous H6662 AMS with H5973 PREP the wicked H7563 ?
24 Peradventure H194 ADV there be H3426 PART fifty H2572 MMP righteous H6662 within H8432 B-NMS the city H5892 D-GFS : wilt thou also H637 CONJ destroy H5595 and not H3808 W-NPAR spare H5375 VQY2MS the place H4725 for H4616 L-CONJ the fifty H2572 MMP righteous H6662 that H834 RPRO are therein H7130 ?
25 That be far H2486 IJEC-3FS from thee to do H6213 after this H2088 D-PMS manner H1697 , to slay H4191 the righteous H6662 AMS with H5973 PREP the wicked H7563 AMS : and that the righteous H6662 should be H1961 W-VQQ3MS as the wicked H7563 , that be far H2486 IJEC-3FS from thee : Shall not H3808 NADV the Judge H8199 of all H3605 NMS the earth H776 D-GFS do H6213 VQY3MS right H4941 NMS ?
26 And the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS , If H518 PART I find H4672 VQY1MS in Sodom H5467 fifty H2572 MMP righteous H6662 within H8432 B-NMS the city H5892 D-GFS , then I will spare H5375 all H3605 L-CMS the place H4725 D-NMS for their sakes H5668 .
27 And Abraham H85 answered H6030 W-VQY3MS and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Behold H2009 IJEC now H4994 IJEC , I have taken upon H2974 me to speak H1696 unto H413 PREP the Lord H136 EDS , which H595 W-PPRO-1MS am but dust H6083 NMS and ashes H665 W-NMS :
28 Peradventure H194 ADV there shall lack H2637 five H2568 of the fifty H2572 MMP righteous H6662 : wilt thou destroy H7843 all H3605 NMS the city H5892 D-GFS for lack of five H2568 ? And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , If H518 PART I find H4672 VQY1MS there H8033 ADV forty H705 MMP and five H2568 , I will not H3808 NADV destroy H7843 it .
29 And he spoke H1696 unto H413 PREP-3MS him yet H5750 ADV again H3254 W-VHPMS , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Peradventure H194 ADV there shall be forty H705 MMP found H4672 there H8033 ADV . And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , I will not H3808 NADV do H6213 it for forty\'s sake H5668 B-NMS .
30 And he said H559 W-VQY3MS unto him , Oh H4994 IJEC let not H408 NPAR the Lord H136 be angry H2734 , and I will speak H1696 : Peradventure H194 ADV there shall thirty H7970 MMP be found H4672 there H8033 ADV . And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , I will not H3808 NADV do H6213 it , if H518 PART I find H4672 VQY1MS thirty H7970 there H8033 ADV .
31 And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Behold H2009 IJEC now H4994 IJEC , I have taken upon H2974 me to speak H1696 unto H413 PREP the Lord H136 EDS : Peradventure H194 ADV there shall be twenty H6242 found H4672 there H8033 ADV . And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , I will not H3808 NADV destroy H7843 it for twenty\'s sake H5668 B-NMS .
32 And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , Oh H4994 IJEC let not H408 NPAR the Lord H136 be angry H2734 , and I will speak H1696 W-VPI1MS yet H389 ADV but this once H6471 D-GFS : Peradventure H194 ADV ten H6235 shall be found H4672 there H8033 ADV . And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , I will not H3808 NADV destroy H7843 it for ten\'s sake H5668 B-NMS .
33 And the LORD H3068 EDS went his way H1980 W-VQY3MS , as soon as H834 K-RPRO he had left H3615 communing H1696 with H413 PREP Abraham H85 : and Abraham H85 returned H7725 VQQ3MS unto his place H4725 .
