1
And
it
came
to
pass,
when
king
Hezekiah
heard
it,
that
he
rent
his
clothes,
and
covered
himself
with
sackcloth,
and
went
into
the
house
of
the
LORD.
2
And
he
sent
Eliakim,
who
was
over
the
household,
and
Shebna
the
scribe,
and
the
elders
of
the
priests
covered
with
sackcloth,
unto
Isaiah
the
prophet
the
son
of
Amoz.
3
And
they
said
unto
him,
Thus
saith
Hezekiah,
This
day
is
a
day
of
trouble,
and
of
rebuke,
and
of
blasphemy:
for
the
children
are
come
to
the
birth,
and
there
is
not
strength
to
bring
forth.
4
It
may
be
the
LORD
thy
God
will
hear
the
words
of
Rabshakeh,
whom
the
king
of
Assyria
his
master
hath
sent
to
reproach
the
living
God,
and
will
reprove
the
words
which
the
LORD
thy
God
hath
heard:
wherefore
lift
up
thy
prayer
for
the
remnant
that
is
left.
5
So
the
servants
of
king
Hezekiah
came
to
Isaiah.
6
And
Isaiah
said
unto
them,
Thus
shall
ye
say
unto
your
master,
Thus
saith
the
LORD,
Be
not
afraid
of
the
words
that
thou
hast
heard,
wherewith
the
servants
of
the
king
of
Assyria
have
blasphemed
me.
7
Behold,
I
will
send
a
blast
upon
him,
and
he
shall
hear
a
rumour,
and
return
to
his
own
land;
and
I
will
cause
him
to
fall
by
the
sword
in
his
own
land.
8
So
Rabshakeh
returned,
and
found
the
king
of
Assyria
warring
against
Libnah:
for
he
had
heard
that
he
was
departed
from
Lachish.
9
And
he
heard
say
concerning
Tirhakah
king
of
Ethiopia,
He
is
come
forth
to
make
war
with
thee.
And
when
he
heard
it,
he
sent
messengers
to
Hezekiah,
saying,
10
Thus
shall
ye
speak
to
Hezekiah
king
of
Judah,
saying,
Let
not
thy
God,
in
whom
thou
trustest,
deceive
thee,
saying,
Jerusalem
shall
not
be
given
into
the
hand
of
the
king
of
Assyria.
11
Behold,
thou
hast
heard
what
the
kings
of
Assyria
have
done
to
all
lands
by
destroying
them
utterly;
and
shalt
thou
be
delivered?
12
Have
the
gods
of
the
nations
delivered
them
which
my
fathers
have
destroyed,
as
Gozan,
and
Haran,
and
Rezeph,
and
the
children
of
Eden
which
were
in
Telassar?
13
Where
is
the
king
of
Hamath,
and
the
king
of
Arphad,
and
the
king
of
the
city
of
Sepharvaim,
Hena,
and
Ivah?
14
And
Hezekiah
received
the
letter
from
the
hand
of
the
messengers,
and
read
it:
and
Hezekiah
went
up
unto
the
house
of
the
LORD,
and
spread
it
before
the
LORD.
15
And
Hezekiah
prayed
unto
the
LORD,
saying,
16
O
LORD
of
hosts,
God
of
Israel,
that
dwellest
between
the
cherubims,
thou
art
the
God,
even
thou
alone,
of
all
the
kingdoms
of
the
earth:
thou
hast
made
heaven
and
earth.
17
Incline
thine
ear,
O
LORD,
and
hear;
open
thine
eyes,
O
LORD,
and
see:
and
hear
all
the
words
of
Sennacherib,
which
hath
sent
to
reproach
the
living
God.
18
Of
a
truth,
LORD,
the
kings
of
Assyria
have
laid
waste
all
the
nations,
and
their
countries,
19
And
have
cast
their
gods
into
the
fire:
for
they
were
no
gods,
but
the
work
of
men’s
hands,
wood
and
stone:
therefore
they
have
destroyed
them.
20
Now
therefore,
O
LORD
our
God,
save
us
from
his
hand,
that
all
the
kingdoms
of
the
earth
may
know
that
thou
art
the
LORD,
even
thou
only.
21
Then
Isaiah
the
son
of
Amoz
sent
unto
Hezekiah,
saying,
Thus
saith
the
LORD
God
of
Israel,
Whereas
thou
hast
prayed
to
me
against
Sennacherib
king
of
Assyria:
22
This
is
the
word
which
the
LORD
hath
spoken
concerning
him;
The
virgin,
the
daughter
of
Zion,
hath
despised
thee,
and
laughed
thee
to
scorn;
the
daughter
of
Jerusalem
hath
shaken
her
head
at
thee.
23
Whom
hast
thou
reproached
and
blasphemed?
and
against
whom
hast
thou
exalted
thy
voice,
and
lifted
up
thine
eyes
on
high?
even
against
the
Holy
One
of
Israel.
24
By
thy
servants
hast
thou
reproached
the
Lord,
and
hast
said,
By
the
multitude
of
my
chariots
am
I
come
up
to
the
height
of
the
mountains,
to
the
sides
of
Lebanon;
and
I
will
cut
down
the
tall
cedars
thereof,
and
the
choice
fir
trees
thereof:
and
I
will
enter
into
the
height
of
his
border,
and
the
forest
of
his
Carmel.
25
I
have
digged,
and
drunk
water;
and
with
the
sole
of
my
feet
have
I
dried
up
all
the
rivers
of
the
besieged
places.
26
Hast
thou
not
heard
long
ago,
how
I
have
done
it;
and
of
ancient
times,
that
I
have
formed
it?
now
have
I
brought
it
to
pass,
that
thou
shouldest
be
to
lay
waste
defenced
cities
into
ruinous
heaps.
27
Therefore
their
inhabitants
were
of
small
power,
they
were
dismayed
and
confounded:
they
were
as
the
grass
of
the
field,
and
as
the
green
herb,
as
the
grass
on
the
housetops,
and
as
corn
blasted
before
it
be
grown
up.
28
But
I
know
thy
abode,
and
thy
going
out,
and
thy
coming
in,
and
thy
rage
against
me.
29
Because
thy
rage
against
me,
and
thy
tumult,
is
come
up
into
mine
ears,
therefore
will
I
put
my
hook
in
thy
nose,
and
my
bridle
in
thy
lips,
and
I
will
turn
thee
back
by
the
way
by
which
thou
camest.
30
And
this
shall
be
a
sign
unto
thee,
Ye
shall
eat
this
year
such
as
groweth
of
itself;
and
the
second
year
that
which
springeth
of
the
same:
and
in
the
third
year
sow
ye,
and
reap,
and
plant
vineyards,
and
eat
the
fruit
thereof.
31
And
the
remnant
that
is
escaped
of
the
house
of
Judah
shall
again
take
root
downward,
and
bear
fruit
upward:
32
For
out
of
Jerusalem
shall
go
forth
a
remnant,
and
they
that
escape
out
of
mount
Zion:
the
zeal
of
the
LORD
of
hosts
shall
do
this.
33
Therefore
thus
saith
the
LORD
concerning
the
king
of
Assyria,
He
shall
not
come
into
this
city,
nor
shoot
an
arrow
there
nor
come
before
it
with
shields,
nor
cast
a
bank
against
it.
34
By
the
way
that
he
came,
by
the
same
shall
he
return,
and
shall
not
come
into
this
city,
saith
the
LORD.
35
For
I
will
defend
this
city
to
save
it
for
mine
own
sake,
and
for
my
servant
David’s
sake.
36
Then
the
angel
of
the
LORD
went
forth,
and
smote
in
the
camp
of
the
Assyrians
a
hundred
and
fourscore
and
five
thousand:
and
when
they
arose
early
in
the
morning,
behold,
they
were
all
dead
corpses.
37
So
Sennacherib
king
of
Assyria
departed,
and
went
and
returned,
and
dwelt
at
Nineveh.
38
And
it
came
to
pass,
as
he
was
worshipping
in
the
house
of
Nisroch
his
god,
that
Adrammelech
and
Sharezer
his
sons
smote
him
with
the
sword;
and
they
escaped
into
the
land
of
Armenia:
and
Esar-haddon
his
son
reigned
in
his
stead.

him:
Trampled
on
thee,
laughed
at
thee,
Hath
the
virgin
daughter
of
Zion,
Behind
thee
shaken
the
head
hath
the
daughter
of
Jerusalem.
23
Whom
hast
thou
reproached
and
reviled?
And
against
whom
lifted
up
the
voice?
Yea,
thou
dost
lift
up
on
high
thine
eyes
Against
the
Holy
One
of
Israel.
24
By
the
hand
of
thy
servants
Thou
hast
reviled
the
Lord,
and
sayest:
In
the
multitude
of
my
chariots
I
have
come
up
to
a
high
place
of
hills,
The
sides
of
Lebanon,
And
I
cut
down
the
height
of
its
cedars,
The
choice
of
its
firs,
And
I
enter
the
high
place
of
its
extremity,
The
forest
of
its
Carmel.
25
I
--
I
have
dug
and
drunk
waters,
And
I
dry
up
with
the
sole
of
my
steps
All
floods
of
a
bulwark.
26
Hast
thou
not
heard
from
afar?
--
it
I
did,
From
days
of
old
--
that
I
formed
it.
Now,
I
have
brought
it
in,
And
it
is
to
make
desolate,
Ruinous
heaps
--
fenced
cities,
27
And
their
inhabitants
are
feeble-handed,
They
were
broken
down,
and
are
dried
up.
They
have
been
the
herb
of
the
field,
And
the
greenness
of
the
tender
grass,
Grass
of
the
roofs,
And
blasted
corn,
before
it
hath
risen
up.
28
And
thy
sitting
down,
and
thy
going
out,
And
thy
coming
in,
I
have
known,
And
thy
anger
towards
Me.
29
Because
of
thy
anger
towards
Me,
And
thy
noise
--
it
came
up
into
Mine
ears,
I
have
put
My
hook
in
thy
nose,
And
My
bridle
in
thy
lips,
And
I
have
caused
thee
to
turn
back
In
the
way
in
which
thou
camest.
30
--
And
this
to
thee
is
the
sign,
Food
of
the
year
is
self-sown
grain,
And
in
the
second
year
the
spontaneous
growth,
And
in
the
third
year,
sow
ye
and
reap,
And
plant
vineyards,
and
eat
their
fruit.
31
And
it
hath
continued
--
the
escaped
Of
the
house
of
Judah
that
hath
been
left
--
To
take
root
beneath,
And
it
hath
made
fruit
upward.
32
For
from
Jerusalem
goeth
forth
a
remnant,
And
an
escape
from
mount
Zion,
The
zeal
of
Jehovah
of
Hosts
doth
this.
33
Therefore,
thus
said
Jehovah,
Concerning
the
king
of
Asshur:
He
doth
not
come
in
unto
this
city,
Nor
doth
he
shoot
there
an
arrow,
Nor
doth
he
come
before
it
with
shield,
Nor
doth
he
pour
out
against
it
a
mount.
34
In
the
way
that
he
came,
in
it
he
turneth
back,
And
unto
this
city
he
doth
not
come
in,
An
affirmation
of
Jehovah,
35
And
I
have
covered
over
this
city,
To
save
it,
for
Mine
own
sake,
And
for
the
sake
of
David
My
servant.`
36
And
a
messenger
of
Jehovah
goeth
out,
and
smiteth
in
the
camp
of
Asshur
a
hundred
and
eighty
and
five
thousand;
and
men
rise
early
in
the
morning,
and
lo,
all
of
them
are
dead
corpses.
37
And
journey,
and
go,
and
turn
back
doth
Sennacherib
king
of
Asshur,
and
dwelleth
in
Nineveh.
38
And
it
cometh
to
pass,
he
is
bowing
himself
in
the
house
of
Nisroch
his
god,
and
Adrammelech
and
Sharezer
his
sons
have
smitten
him
with
the
sword,
and
they
have
escaped
to
the
land
of
Ararat,
and
Esar-Haddon
his
son
reigneth
in
his
stead.

Then
Isaiah
the

of
Amoz
sent
unto
Hezekiah,
saying,
Thus
saith
Jehovah,
the
God
of
Israel,
Whereas
thou
hast
prayed
to
me
against
Sennacherib
king

22
this

the
word

Jehovah
hath
spoken
concerning
him:
The
virgin
daughter
of
Zion
hath
despised
thee
and
laughed
thee
to
scorn;
the
daughter
of
Jerusalem
hath
shaken
her
head
at

23
Whom
hast
thou
defied
and
blasphemed?
and
against
whom
hast
thou
exalted
thy
voice
and
lifted
up
thine
eyes
on
high?
even
against
the
Holy
One
of
Israel.
24
By
thy
servants
hast
thou
defied
the
Lord,
and
hast
said,
With
the
multitude
of
my
chariots
am
I
come
up
to
the
height
of
the
mountains,
to
the
innermost
parts
of
Lebanon;
and
I
will
cut
down
the
tall
cedars
thereof,
and
the
choice
fir-trees
thereof;
and
I
will
enter
into
its
farthest
height,
the
forest
of
its
fruitful
field;
25
I
have
digged
and
drunk
water,
and
with
the
sole
of
my
feet
will
I
dry
up
all
the
rivers
of
Egypt.
26
Hast
thou
not
heard
how
I
have
done
it
long
ago,
and
formed
it
of
ancient
times?
now
have
I
brought
it
to
pass,
that
it
should
be
thine
to
lay
waste
fortified
cities
into
ruinous
heaps.
27
Therefore
their
inhabitants
were
of
small
power,
they
were
dismayed
and
confounded;
they
were
as
the
grass
of
the
field,
and
as
the
green
herb,
as
the
grass
on
the
housetops,
and
as
a
field
of
grain
before
it
is
grown
up.
28
But
I
know
thy
sitting
down,
and
thy
going
out,
and
thy
coming
in,
and
thy
raging
against
me.
29
Because
of
thy
raging
against
me,
and
because
thine
arrogancy
is
come
up
into
mine
ears,
therefore
will
I
put
my
hook
in
thy
nose,
and
my
bridle
in
thy
lips,
and
I
will
turn
thee
back
by
the
way
by
which
thou
camest.
30
And
this
shall
be
the
sign
unto
thee:
ye
shall
eat
this
year
that
which
groweth
of
itself,
and
in
the
second
year
that
which
springeth
of
the
same;
and
in
the
third
year
sow
ye,
and
reap,
and
plant
vineyards,
and
eat
the
fruit
thereof.
31
And
the
remnant
that
is
escaped
of
the
house
of
Judah
shall
again
take
root
downward,
and
bear
fruit
upward.
32
For
out
of
Jerusalem
shall
go
forth
a
remnant,
and
out
of
mount
Zion
they
that
shall
escape.
The
zeal
of
Jehovah
of
hosts
will
perform
this.
33
Therefore
thus
saith
Jehovah
concerning
the
king
of
Assyria,
He
shall
not
come
unto
this
city,
nor
shoot
an
arrow
there,
neither
shall
he
come
before
it
with
shield,
nor
cast
up
a
mound
against
it.
34
By
the
way
that
he
came,
by
the
same
shall
he
return,
and
he
shall
not
come
unto
this
city,
saith
Jehovah.
35
For
I
will
defend
this
city
to
save
it,
for
mine
own
sake,
and
for
my
servant
Davids
sake.
36
And
the
angel
of
Jehovah
went
forth,
and
smote
in

a

five
thousand;
and
when
men
arose
early
in

behold,
these
were
all
dead
bodies.
37
So
Sennacherib
king
of

departed,
and
went
and
returned,
and
dwelt
at
Nineveh.

the
multitude
of
my
chariots
am
I
come
up
to
the
height
of
the
mountains,
to
the
innermost
parts
of
Lebanon;
and
I
will
cut
down
the
tall
cedars
of
it,
and
the
choice
fir
trees
of
it;
and
I
will
enter
into
its
farthest
height,
the
forest
of
its
fruitful
field;
25
I
have
dug
and
drunk
water,
and
with
the
sole
of
my
feet
will
I
dry
up
all
the
rivers
of
Egypt.
26
Have
you
not
heard
how
I
have
done
it
long
ago,
and
formed
it
of
ancient
times?
now
have
I
brought
it
to
pass,
that
it
should
be
your
to
lay
waste
fortified
cities
into
ruinous
heaps.
27
Therefore
their
inhabitants
were
of
small
power,
they
were
dismayed
and
confounded;
they
were
as
the
grass
of
the
field,
and
as
the
green
herb,
as
the
grass
on
the
housetops,
and
as
a
field
of
grain
before
it
is
grown
up.
28
But
I
know
your
sitting
down,
and
your
going
out,
and
your
coming
in,
and
your
raging
against
me.
29
Because
of
your
raging
against
me,
and
because
your
arrogance
is
come
up
into
my
ears,
therefore
will
I
put
my
hook
in
your
nose,
and
my
bridle
in
your
lips,
and
I
will
turn
you
back
by
the
way
by
which
you
came.
30
This
shall
be
the
sign
to
you:
you
shall
eat
this
year
that
which
grows
of
itself,
and
in
the
second
year
that
which
springs
of
the
same;
and
in
the
third
year
sow
you
,
and
reap,
and
plant
vineyards,
and
eat
the
fruit
of
it.
31
The
remnant
that
is
escaped
of
the
house
of
Judah
shall
again
take
root
downward,
and
bear
fruit
upward.
32
For
out
of
Jerusalem
shall
go
forth
a
remnant,
and
out
of
Mount
Zion
those
who
shall
escape.
The
zeal
of
Yahweh
of
Hosts
will
perform
this.
33
Therefore
thus
says
Yahweh
concerning
the
king
of
Assyria,
He
shall
not
come
to
this
city,
nor
shoot
an
arrow
there,
neither
shall
he
come
before
it
with
shield,
nor
cast
up
a
mound
against
it.
34
By
the
way
that
he
came,
by
the
same
shall
he
return,
and
he
shall
not
come
to
this
city,
says
Yahweh.
35
For
I
will
defend
this
city
to
save
it,
for
my
own
sake,
and
for
my
servant
David's
sake.
36
The
angel
of
Yahweh
went
forth,
and
struck
in
the
camp
of
the
Assyrians
one
hundred
and
eighty-five
thousand;
and
when
men
arose
early
in
the
morning,
behold,
these
were
all
dead
bodies.
37
So
Sennacherib
king
of
Assyria
departed,
and
went
and
returned,
and
lived
at
Nineveh.
38
It
happened,
as
he
was
worshipping
in
the
house
of
Nisroch
his

that
Adrammelech
and
Sharezer
his
sons
struck
him
with
the
sword;
and
they
escaped
into
the
land
of
Ararat.
Esar
Haddon
his
son
reigned
in
his
place.

24
By
thy

I

thy
sitting

29
Because
of
thy

the
height
of
his
border,
and
the
forest
of
his
Carmel.
25
I
have
dig,
and
drunk
water;
and
with
the
sole
of
my
feet
have
I
dried
up
all
the
rivers
of
the
besieged
places.
26
Have
you
not
heard
long
ago,
how
I
have
done
it;
and
of
ancient
times,
that
I
have
formed
it?
now
have
I
brought
it
to
pass,
that
you
should
be
to
lay
waste
defended
cities
into
ruinous
heaps.
27
Therefore
their
inhabitants
were
of
small
power,
they
were
dismayed
and
confounded:
they
were
as
the
grass
of
the
field,
and
as
the
green
herb,
as
the
grass
on
the
housetops,
and
as
corn
blasted
before
it
be
grown
up.
28
But
I
know
your
stayed,
and
your
going
out,
and
your
coming
in,
and
your
rage
against
me.
29
Because
your
rage
against
me,
and
your
tumult,
is
come
up
into
my
ears,
therefore
will
I
put
my
hook
in
your
nose,
and
my
bridle
in
your
lips,
and
I
will
turn
you
back
by
the
way
by
which
you
came.
30
And
this
shall
be
a
sign
to
you,
You
shall
eat
this
year
such
as
grows
of
itself;
and
the
second
year
that
which
springs
of
the
same:
and
in
the
third
year
sow
you,
and
reap,
and
plant
vineyards,
and
eat
the
fruit
thereof.
31
And
the
remnant
that
is
escaped
of
the
house
of
Judah
shall
again
take
root
downward,
and
bear
fruit
upward:
32
For
out
of
Jerusalem
shall
go
forth
a
remnant,
and
they
that
escape
out
of
mount
Zion:
the
zeal
of
the
LORD
of
hosts
shall
do
this.
33
Therefore
thus
said
the
LORD
concerning
the
king
of
Assyria,
He
shall
not
come
into
this
city,
nor
shoot
an
arrow
there,
nor
come
before
it
with
shields,
nor
cast
a
bank
against
it.
34
By
the
way
that
he
came,
by
the
same
shall
he
return,
and
shall
not
come
into
this
city,
said
the
LORD.
35
For
I
will
defend
this
city
to
save
it
for
my
own
sake,
and
for
my
servant
David's
sake.
36
Then
the
angel
of
the
LORD
went
forth,
and
smote
in
the
camp
of
the
Assyrians
a
hundred
and
fourscore
and
five
thousand:
and
when
they
arose
early
in
the
morning,
behold,
they
were
all
dead
corpses.
37
So
Sennacherib
king
of
Assyria
departed,
and
went
and
returned,
and
dwelled
at
Nineveh.
38
And
it
came
to
pass,
as
he
was
worshipping
in
the
house
of
Nisroch
his
god,
that
Adrammelech
and
Sharezer
his
sons
smote
him
with
the
sword;
and
they
escaped
into
the
land
of
Armenia:
and
Esarhaddon
his
son
reigned
in
his
stead.

3
"This
is
what
Hezekiah
says:
'This

The

again

you

mislead
you
when
he
says,
"Jerusalem
will
not
be
handed
over
to
the
king
of
Assyria."
11
Certainly
you
have
heard
how
the
kings
of
Assyria
have
annihilated
all
lands.
Do
you
really
think
you
will
be
rescued?
12
Were
the
nations
whom
my
predecessors
destroyed—
the
nations
of
Gozan,
Haran,
Rezeph,
and
the
people
of
Eden
in
Telassar—
rescued
by
their
gods?
13

the

and
the

14
Hezekiah
took
the
letter
from
the
messengers
and
read
it.
Then
Hezekiah
went
up
to
the
LORD's

and
spread
it
out

15
Hezekiah
prayed
before
the
LORD:
16
"O
LORD
who
commands
armies,
O
God
of
Israel,
who
is
enthroned
on
the
cherubim!
You
alone
are
God
over
all
the

You
made
the
sky
and
the
earth.
17
Pay
attention,
LORD,
and
hear!
Open
your
eyes,
LORD,
and
observe!
Listen
to
this
entire
message
Sennacherib
sent
and
how
he
taunts
the
living
God!
18
It
is
true,
LORD,
that
the
kings
of
Assyria
have
destroyed
all
the
nations
and
their
lands.
19
They
have
burned
the
gods
of
the
nations,
for
they
are
not
really
gods,
but
only
the
product
of
human
hands
manufactured
from
wood
and
stone.
That
is
why
the
Assyrians
could
destroy
them.
20
Now,
O
LORD
our
God,
rescue
us
from
his
power,
so
all
the
kingdoms
of
the
earth
may

that
you

21
Isaiah
son
of
Amoz
sent
this
message
to
Hezekiah:
"This
is
what
the
LORD
God
of
Israel
says:
'Because
you
prayed
to
me
concerning
King
Sennacherib
of
Assyria,
22
this
is
what
the
LORD
says
about
him:
"The
virgin
daughter
Zion
despises
you—
she
makes
fun
of
you;
daughter
Jerusalem
shakes
her
head
after
you.
23
Whom
have
you
taunted
and
hurled
insults
at?
At
whom
have
you
shouted
and
looked
so
arrogantly?
At
the
Holy
One
of
Israel!
24
Through
your
messengers
you
taunted
the
sovereign
master,
'With
my
many
chariots
I
climbed
up
the
high
mountains,
the
slopes
of
Lebanon.
I
cut
down
its
tall
cedars
and
its
best
evergreens.
I
invaded
its
most
remote
regions,
its
thickest
woods.
25
I
dug
wells
and
drank
water.
With
the
soles
of
my
feet
I
dried
up
all
the
rivers
of
Egypt.'
26
Certainly
you
must
have
heard!
Long
ago
I
worked
it
out,
in
ancient
times
I
planned
it,
and
now
I
am
bringing
it
to
pass.
The
plan
is
this:
Fortified
cities
will
crash
into
heaps
of
ruins.
27
Their
residents
are
powerless;
they
are
terrified
and
ashamed.
They
are
as
short-lived
as
plants
in
the
field
or
green
vegetation.
They
are
as
short-lived
as
grass
on
the
rooftops
when
it
is
scorched
by
the
east
wind.
28
I
know
where
you
live
and
everything
you
do
and
how
you
rage
against
me.
29
Because
you
rage
against
me
and
the
uproar
you
create
has
reached
my
ears,
I
will
put
my
hook
in
your
nose,
and
my
bridle
between
your
lips,
and
I
will
lead
you
back
the
way
you
came."
30
"This
will
be
your
reminder
that
I
have
spoken
the
truth:
This
year
you
will
eat
what
grows
wild,
and
next
year
what
grows
on
its
own.
But
the
year
after
that
you
will
plant
seed
and
harvest
crops;
you
will
plant
vines
and
consume
their
produce.
31
Those
who
remain
in
Judah
will
take
root
in
the
ground
and
bear
fruit.
32
"For
a
remnant
will
leave
Jerusalem;
survivors
will
come
out
of
Mount
Zion.
The
intense
devotion
of
the
LORD
who
commands
armies
will
accomplish
this.
33
So
this
is
what
the
LORD
says
about
the
king
of
Assyria:
'He
will
not
enter
this
city,
nor
will
he
shoot
an
arrow
here.
He
will
not
attack
it
with
his
shielded
warriors,
nor
will
he
build
siege
works
against
it.
34
He
will
go
back
the
way
he
came—
he
will
not
enter
this
city,'
says
the
LORD.
35
I
will
shield
this
city
and
rescue
it
for
the
sake
of
my
reputation
and
because
of
my
promise
to
David
my
servant."'"
36
The
LORD's
messenger
went
out
and
killed
185,000
troops
in
the
Assyrian
camp.
When
they
got
up
early
the
next
morning,
there
were
all
the
corpses!
37
So
King
Sennacherib
of
Assyria
broke
camp
and
went
on
his
way.
He
went
home
and
stayed
in
Nineveh.
38
One
day,
as
he
was
worshiping
in
the
temple
of
his
god
Nisroch,
his
sons
Adrammelech
and
Sharezer
struck
him
down
with
the
sword.
They
ran
away
to
the
land
of
Ararat;
his
son
Esarhaddon
replaced
him
as
king.

Lord,

this
message.
Hear
the
words
that
Sennacherib
sent
to
insult
the

God!
18
It
is
true,
Lord.
The
kings

could
destroy
them.
20
But
you
are
the
Lord

so
please
save
us
from
the
king

Assyria.
Then
all
the
other

21
Then
Isaiah
son
of
Amoz
sent
this
message
to
Hezekiah.
Isaiah
said,
"The
Lord,
the
God
of
Israel,
says
this,
'You
prayed
to
me
about
the
message
that
came
from
King
Sennacherib
of
Assyria.
I
have
heard
you.
'
22
"So
this
is
the
Lord's
message
against
Sennacherib:
'The
virgin
daughter
Zion
does
not
think
you
are
important.
She
makes
fun
of
you.
She
shakes
her
head
at
you
and
laughs
behind
your
back.
23
But
who
was
it
that
you
insulted
and
made
fun
of?
Who
was
it
that
you
spoke
against?
You
were
speaking
against
the
Holy
One
of
Israel.
You
acted
like
you
were
great
and
he
was
nothing.
24
You
sent
your
officers
to
insult
the
Lord.
This
is
what
you
said:
"I
took
my
many
chariots
up
the
high
mountains
deep
inside
Lebanon.
I
cut
down
its
tallest
cedars
and
its
best
fir
trees.
I
have
been
on
its
highest
mountain
and
deep
inside
its
forests.
25
I
dug
wells
and
drank
water
from
new
places.
I
dried
up
the
rivers
of
Egypt
and
walked
where
the
water
was."
26
"'How
could
you
say
this,
Sennacherib?
Did
no
one
ever
tell
you
that
I,
the
Lord,
planned
these
things
long
ago?
From
ancient
times
I
decided
what
would
happen.
And
now
I
have
made
it
happen.
I
let
you
tear
down
strong
cities
and
change
them
into
piles
of
rocks.
27
The
people
living
there
had
no
power.
They
were
afraid
and
confused.
They
were
about
to
be
cut
down
like
grass
and
plants
in
the
field.
They
were
like
grass
growing
on
the
housetops,
dying
before
it
grows
tall.
28
I
know
all
about
your
battles;
I
know
when
you
rested,
when
you
went
out
to
war,
and
when
you
came
home.
I
also
know
when
you
got
upset
at
me.
29
Yes,
you
were
upset
at
me.
I
heard
your
proud
insults.
So
I
will
put
my
hook
in
your
nose
and
my
bit
in
your
mouth.
Then
I
will
turn
you
around
and
lead
you
back
the
way
you
came.'"
30
Then
the
Lord
said,
"I
will
give
you
a
sign
to
show
you
that
these
words
are
true.
You
will
not
be
able
to
plant
seeds
this
year,
so
next
year
you
will
eat
grain
that
grew
wild
from
the
previous
year's
crop.
But
in
the
third
year,
you
will
eat
grain
from
seeds
that
you
planted.
You
will
harvest
your
crops,
and
you
will
have
plenty
to
eat.
You
will
plant
vineyards
and
eat
grapes
from
them.
31
"The
people
from
the
family
of
Judah
who
have
escaped
and
are
left
alive
will
be
like
plants
that
send
their
roots
deep
into
the
ground
and
produce
fruit
above
the
ground.
32
That
is
because
a
few
people
will
come
out
of
Jerusalem
alive.
There
will
be
survivors
coming
from
Mount
Zion.
"
The
strong
love
of
the
Lord
All-Powerful
will
do
this.
33
So
the
Lord
says
this
about
the
king
of
Assyria:
"He
will
not
come
into
this
city
or
shoot
an
arrow
here.
He
will
not
bring
his
shields
up
against
this
city
or
build
up
a
hill
of
dirt
to
attack
its
walls.
34
He
will
go
back
the
way
he
came.
He
will
not
come
into
this
city.
The
Lord
says
this!
35
I
will
protect
this
city
and
save
it.
I
will
do
this
for
myself
and
for
my
servant
David.
"
36
That
night
the
angel
of
the
Lord
went
out
and
killed
185,000
men
in
the
Assyrian
camp.
When
the
people
got
up
in
the
morning,
they
saw
all
the
dead
bodies.
37
So
King
Sennacherib
of
Assyria
went
back
to
Nineveh
and
stayed
there.
38
One
day
Sennacherib
was
in
the
temple
of
his
god
Nisroch,
worshiping
him.
His
sons
Adrammelech
and
Sharezer
killed
him
with
a
sword
and
ran
away
to
Ararat.
So
Sennacherib's
son
Esarhaddon
became
the
new
king
of
Assyria.

And
it
came
to
pass,
when
king
Ezekias
heard
it,
that
he
rent
his
clothes,
and
put
on
sackcloth,
and
went
up
to
the
house
of
the
Lord.
2
And
he
sent
Heliakim
the
steward,
and
Somnas
the
scribe,
and
the
elders
of
the
priests
clothed
with
sackcloth,
to
Esaias
the
son
of
Amos,
the
prophet.
And
they
said
to
him,
Thus
says
Ezekias,
3
To-day
is
a
day
of
affliction,
and
reproach,
and
rebuke,
and
anger:
for
the
pangs
are
come
upon
the
travailing
woman,
but
she
has
not
strength
to
bring
forth.
4
May
the
Lord
thy
God
hear
the
words
of
Rabsaces,
which
the
king
of
the
Assyrians
has
sent,
to
reproach
the
living
God,
even
to
reproach
with
the
words
which
the
Lord
thy
God
has
heard:
therefore
thou
shalt
pray
to
thy
Lord
for
these
that
are
left.
5
So
the
servants
of
king
Ezekias
came
to
Esaias.
6
And
Esaias
said
to
them,
Thus
shall
ye
say
to
your
master,
Thus
saith
the
Lord,
Be
not
thou
afraid
at
the
words
which
thou
hast
heard,
wherewith
the
ambassadors
of
the
king
of
the
Assyrians
have
reproached
me,
7
Behold,
I
will
send
a
blast
upon
him,
and
he
shall
hear
a
report,
and
return
to
his
own
country,
and
he
shall
fall
by
the
sword
in
his
own
land.
8
So
Rabsaces
returned,
and
found
the
king
of
the
Assyrians
besieging
Lobna:
for
he
had
heard
that
he
had
departed
from
Lachis.
9
And
Tharaca
king
of
the
Ethiopians
went
forth
to
Gr.
besiege
attack
him.
And
when
he
heard
it,
he
turned
aside,
and
sent
messengers
to
Ezekias,
saying,
10
Thus
shall
ye
say
to
Ezekias
king
of
Judea,
Let
not
thy
God,
in
whom
thou
trustest,
deceive
thee,
saying,
Jerusalem
shall
not
be
delivered
into
the
hand
of
the
king
of
the
Assyrians.
11
Hast
thou
not
heard
what
the
kings
of
the
Assyrians
have
done,
how
they
have
destroyed
the
whole
earth?
and
shalt
thou
be
delivered?
12
Have
the
gods
of
the
nations
which
my
fathers
destroyed
delivered
them,
both
Gozan,
and
Charrhan,
and
Rapheth,
which
are
in
the
land
of
Theemath?
13
Where
are
the
kings
of
Emath?
and
where
is
the
king
of
Arphath?
and
where
is
the
king
of
the
city
of
Eppharuaim,
and
of
Anagugana?
14
And
Ezekias
received
the
letter
from
the
messengers,
and
read
it,
and
went
up
to
the
house
of
the
Lord,
and
opened
it
before
the
Lord.
15
And
Ezekias
prayed
to
the
Lord,
saying,
16
O
Lord
of
hosts,
God
of
Israel,
who
sittest
upon
the
cherubs,
thou
alone
art
the
God
of
every
kingdom
of
the
world:
thou
hast
made
heaven
and
earth.
17
Incline
thine
ear,
O
Lord,
hearken,
O
Lord;
open
thine
eyes,
O
Lord,
look,
O
Lord:
and
behold
the
words
of
Sennacherim,
which
he
has
sent
to
reproach
the
living
God.
18
For
of
a
truth,
Lord,
the
kings
of
the
Assyrians
have
laid
waste
the
whole
world,
and
the
countries
thereof,
19
and
have
cast
their
idols
into
the
fire:
for,
they
were
no
gods,
but
the
work
of
men’s
hands,
wood
and
stone;
and
they
have
cast
them
away.
20
But
now,
O
Lord
our
God,
deliver
us
from
his
hands,
that
every
kingdom
of
the
earth
may
know
that
thou
art
God
alone.
21
And
Esaias
the
son
of
Amos
was
sent
to
Ezekias,
and
said
to
him,
Thus
saith
the
Lord,
the
God
of
Israel,
I
have
heard
thy
prayer
to
me
concerning
Sennacherim
king
of
the
Assyrians.
22
This
is
the
word
which
God
has
spoken
concerning
him;
The
virgin
daughter
of
Sion
has
despised
thee,
and
mocked
thee;
the
daughter
of
Jerusalem
has
shaken
her
head
at
thee.
23
Whom
hast
thou
reproached
and
provoked?
and
against
whom
hast
thou
lifted
up
thy
voice?
and
hast
thou
not
lifted
up
thine
eyes
on
high
against
the
Holy
One
of
Israel?
24
For
thou
hast
reproached
the
Lord
by
messengers;
for
thou
hast
said,
With
the
multitude
of
chariots
have
I
ascended
to
the
height
of
mountains,
and
to
the
sides
of
Libanus;
and
I
have
Gr.
cut
cropped
the
height
of
his
cedars
and
the
beauty
of
his
cypresses;
and
I
entered
into
the
height
of
the
forest
region:
25
and
I
have
made
a
bridge,
and
dried
up
the
waters,
and
every
pool
of
water.
26
Hast
thou
not
heard
of
these
things
which
I
did
of
old?
I
appointed
them
from
ancient
times;
but
now
have
I
manifested
my
purpose
of
desolating
nations
in
their
strong
holds,
and
them
that
dwell
in
strong
cities.
27
I
weakened
their
hands,
and
they
withered;
and
they
became
as
dry
grass
on
the
house-tops,
and
as
grass.
28
But
now
I
know
thy
rest,
and
thy
going
out,
and
thy
coming
in.
29
And
thy
wrath
wherewith
thou
hast
been
enraged,
and
thy
rancour
has
come
up
to
me;
therefore
I
will
put
a
hook
in
thy
nose,
and
a
bit
in
thy
lips,
and
will
turn
thee
back
by
the
way
by
which
thou
camest.
30
And
this
shall
be
a
sign
to
thee,
Eat
this
year
what
thou
hast
sown;
and
the
second
year
that
which
is
left:
and
the
third
year
sow,
and
reap,
and
plant
vineyards,
and
eat
the
fruit
of
them.
31
And
they
that
are
left
in
Judea
shall
take
root
downward,
and
bear
fruit
upward:
32
for
out
of
Jerusalem
there
shall
be
Lit.
the
left
men
a
remnant,
and
the
saved
ones
out
of
mount
Sion:
the
zeal
of
the
Lord
of
hosts
shall
perform
this.
33
Therefore
thus
saith
the
Lord
concerning
the
king
of
the
Assyrians,
He
shall
not
enter
into
this
city,
nor
cast
a
weapon
against
it,
nor
bring
a
shield
against
it,
nor
make
a
rampart
round
it.
34
But
by
the
way
by
which
he
came,
by
it
shall
he
return,
and
shall
not
enter
into
this
city:
thus
saith
the
Lord.
35
I
will
protect
this
city
to
save
it
for
my
own
sake,
and
for
my
servant
David’s
sake.
36
And
the
angel
of
the
Lord
went
forth,
and
slew
out
of
the
camp
of
the
Assyrians
a
hundred
and
eighty-five
thousand:
and
they
arose
in
the
morning
and
found
all
these
bodies
dead.
37
And
Sennacherim
king
of
the
Assyrians
turned
and
departed,
and
dwelt
in
Nineve.
38
And
while
he
was
worshipping
Nasarach
his
country’s
god
in
the
house,
Adramelech
and
Sarasar
his
sons
smote
him
with
swords;
and
they
escaped
into
Armenia:
and
Asordan
his
son
reigned
in
his
stead.

returned
and
found
the
king
of
Assyria
fighting
against
Libnah,
for
he
had
heard

the

9
Now
the
king
had
heard
them
say
about
King
Tirhakah
of
Cush,
"He
has
come
out
to
fight
against
you."
When
he
heard
it,
he
sent
men
to
Hezekiah,
saying,
10
"Tell
Hezekiah
king
of
Judah,
'Do
not

fool
you,
saying,
"Jerusalem
will

See,
you
have
heard
what
the
kings
of
Assyria
have
done
to
all
the
lands.
They
have
destroyed
them
all.
So
will
you
be

Did
the

my

Did
they

Gozan,

Hezekiah

read
it.
He
went
up
to
the

spread
it
out
before
the
Lord.
15
And
Hezekiah
prayed
to
the
Lord,
16
"O
Lord
of
All,
the
God

Israel,
Who
sits

cherubim,
You
are
the
God,
You
alone,
of
all
the
nations
of
the
earth.
You
have
made
heaven
and
earth.
17
Listen,
O
Lord,
and
hear.
Open
Your
eyes,
O
Lord,
and
see.
Listen
to
all
the
words
of
Sennacherib,
which
he
has
sent
to
speak
against
the
living
God.
18
It
is
true,
O
Lord,
the
kings
of
Assyria
have
destroyed
all
the
nations
and
their
lands.
19
They
have
thrown
their
gods
into
the

they
were
not
gods

the

So
they

20
Now,
O
Lord
our

take
us
out
of
his

that
all
the
nations

the
earth
may
know
that
You
alone
are
the

21
Then
Isaiah
the
son
of
Amoz
sent
word
to
Hezekiah,
saying,
"This
is
what
the
Lord,
the
God
of
Israel,
says,
'Because
you
have
prayed
to
Me
about
Sennacherib
king
of
Assyria,
22
this
is
the
word
the
Lord
has
spoken
against
him:
"She
has
hated
you
and
made
fun
of
you,
the
young
daughter
of
Zion
who
has
never
had
a
man!
She
has
shaken
her
head
behind
you,
the
people
of
Jerusalem!
23
Whom
have
you
put
to
shame
and
spoken
against?
Against
whom
have
you
raised
your
voice
and
lifted
up
your
eyes
in
pride?
Against
the
Holy
One
of
Israel!
24
Through
your
servants
you
have
spoken
against
the
Lord.
You
have
said,
'I
came
up
to
the
high
mountains
with
my
many
war-wagons,
to
the
farthest
parts
of
Lebanon.
I
cut
down
its
tall
cedar
trees
and
its
best
cypress
trees.
I
came
to
its
highest
mountain
top,
and
to
the
place
that
has
the
most
trees.
25
I
dug
wells
in
strange
lands
and
drank
water
there.
With
the
bottom
of
my
feet
I
dried
up
all
the
rivers
of
Egypt.'
26
Have
you
not
heard
that
I
planned
this
long
ago?
From
days
of
old
I
planned
it.
Now
I
have
made
it
happen,
that
you
should
turn
strong
cities
built
for
battles
into
waste
lands.
27
So
their
people
did
not
have
any
more
strength.
They
were
troubled
and
put
to
shame.
They
were
like
the
grass
of
the
field
and
like
the
green
plant.
They
were
like
grass
on
the
housetops,
dried
up
before
it
is
grown.
28
But
I
know
your
sitting
down,
and
your
going
out
and
your
coming
in,
and
your
anger
against
Me.
29
Because
of
your
anger
against
Me,
and
because
I
have
heard
of
your
pride,
I
will
put
My
hook
in
your
nose,
and
My
bit
in
your
mouth.
And
I
will
make
you
return
the
way
you
came.
30
"This
will
be
the
special
thing
for
you
to
see:
You
will
eat
this
year
what
grows
of
itself.
In
the
second
year
you
will
eat
what
grows
up
from
the
same.
Then
in
the
third
year
you
will
plant
and
gather.
You
will
plant
grape-fields
and
eat
their
fruit.
31
And
those
who
are
left
of
the
family
of
Judah
will
again
have
their
roots
grow
down
and
grow
their
fruit
above.
32
For
My
people
who
are
left
will
go
out
from
Jerusalem
and
from
Mount
Zion.
This
will
be
done
by
the
work
of
the
Lord
of
All."
'
"
33
So
the
Lord
says
about
the
king
of
Assyria,
'He
will
not
come
to
this
city
or
shoot
an
arrow
there.
He
will
not
come
before
it
with
a
battle-covering,
or
build
a
battle-wall
against
it.
34
He
will
return
by
the
same
way
he
came,
and
he
will
not
come
to
this
city,'
says
the
Lord.
35
'For
I
will
fight
for
this
city
to
save
it
for
My
own
good,
and
for
the
good
of
My
servant
David.'
"
36
Then
the
angel
of
the
Lord
went
out
and
killed
185,000
men
in
the
Assyrian
camp.
And
when
men
got
up
early
in
the
morning,
they
saw
all
these
dead
bodies.
37
So
Sennacherib
king
of
Assyria
left
and
returned
home,
and
lived
at
Nineveh.
38
When
he
was
worshiping
in
the
house
of
his
god
Nisroch,
his
sons
Adrammelech
and
Sharezer
killed
him
with
the
sword.
Then
they
ran
away
to
the
land
of
Ararat.
And
his
son
Esarhaddon
became
king
in
his
place.

The
king
received
a
report
that
Tirhakah,
the
Cushite
king
of
Egypt,
was
coming
to
attack
him.
When
the
king
of
Assyria
heard
this,
he
sent
messengers
to
Hezekiah,
saying,
10
"Tell
Hezekiah
king
of
Judah:
Don't
be
fooled
by
the
god
you
trust.
Don't
believe
him
when
he
says
Jerusalem
will
not

handed
over
to
the
king

Assyria.
11
You
have
heard
what
the
kings
of
Assyria
have
done.
They
have
completely
defeated
every
country,
so
do
not
think
you
will
be
saved.
12
Did
the
gods
of
those
people
save
them?
My
ancestors
destroyed
them,
defeating
the
cities
of
Gozan,
Haran,
and
Rezeph,
and
the
people
of
Eden
living
in
Tel
Assar.
13
Where
are
the
kings
of
Hamath
and
Arpad?
Where
are
the
kings

Sepharvaim,
Hena,

Ivvah?"

When
Hezekiah
received
the
letter
from
the
messengers
and
read
it,
he
went
up
to
the
Temple
of
the
Lord.
He
spread
the
letter
out
before
the
Lord
15
and
prayed
to
the
Lord:
16
"Lord
All-Powerful,
you
are
the
God
of
Israel,
whose
throne
is
between
the
gold
creatures
with
wings,
only
you
are
God
of
all
the
kingdoms
of
the
earth.
You
made
the
heavens
and
the
earth.
17
Hear,
Lord,
and
listen.
Open
your
eyes,
Lord,
and
see.
Listen
to
all
the
words
Sennacherib
has
said
to
insult
the
living
God.
18
"It
is
true,
Lord,
that
the
kings
of
Assyria
have
destroyed
all
these
countries
and
their
lands.
19
They
have
thrown
the
gods
of
these
nations
into
the
fire,
but
they
were
only
wood
and
rock
statues
that
people
made.
So
the
kings
have
destroyed
them.
20
Now,
Lord
our
God,
save
us
from
the
king's
power
so
that
all
the
kingdoms
of
the
earth
will
know
that
you,
Lord,
are
the
only
God."
21
Then
Isaiah
son
of
Amoz
sent
a
message
to
Hezekiah
that
said,
"This
is
what
the
Lord,
the
God
of
Israel,
says:
'You
prayed
to
me
about
Sennacherib
king
of
Assyria.
22
So
this
is
what
the
Lord
has
said
against
Sennacherib:
hate
you
and
make
fun
of
you;
the
people
of
Jerusalem
laugh
at
you
as
you
run
away.
23
You
have
insulted
me
and
spoken
against
me;
you
have
raised
your
voice
against
me.
You
have
a
proud
look
on
your
face,
which
is
against
me,
the
Holy
One
of
Israel!
24
You
have
sent
your
messengers
to
insult
the
Lord.
You
have
said,
"With
my
many
chariots
I
have
gone
to
the
tops
of
the
mountains,
to
the
highest
mountains
of
Lebanon.
I
have
cut
down
its
tallest
cedars
and
its
best
pine
trees.
I
have
gone
to
its
greatest
heights
and
its
best
forests.
25
I
have
dug
wells
in
foreign
countries
and
drunk
water
there.
By
the
soles
of
my
feet,
I
have
dried
up
all
the
rivers
of
Egypt."
26
"'King
of
Assyria,
surely
you
have
heard.
Long
ago
I,
the
Lord,
planned
these
things.
Long
ago
I
designed
them,
and
now
I
have
made
them
happen.
I
allowed
you
to
turn
those
strong,
walled
cities
into
piles
of
rocks.
27
The
people
in
those
cities
were
weak;
they
were
frightened
and
put
to
shame.
They
were
like
grass
in
the
field,
like
tender,
young
grass,
like
grass
on
the
housetop
that
is
burned
by
the
wind
before
it
can
grow.
28
"'I
know
when
you
rest,
when
you
come
and
go,
and
how
you
rage
against
me.
29
Because
you
rage
against
me,
and
because
I
have
heard
your
proud
words,
I
will
put
my
hook
in
your
nose
and
my
bit
in
your
mouth.
Then
I
will
force
you
to
leave
my
country
the
same
way
you
came.'
30
"Then
the
Lord
said,
'Hezekiah,
I
will
give
you
this
sign:
This
year
you
will
eat
the
grain
that
grows
wild,
and
the
second
year
you
will
eat
what
grows
wild
from
that.
But
in
the
third
year,
plant
grain
and
harvest
it.
Plant
vineyards
and
eat
their
fruit.
31
Some
of
the
people
in
the
family
of
Judah
will
escape.
Like
plants
that
take
root,
they
will
grow
strong
and
have
many
children.
32
A
few
people
will
come
out
of
Jerusalem
alive;
a
few
from
Mount
Zion
will
live.
will
make
this
happen.'
33
"So
this
is
what
the
Lord
says
about
the
king
of
Assyria:
'He
will
not
enter
this
city
or
even
shoot
an
arrow
here.
He
will
not
fight
against
it
with
shields
or
build
a
ramp
to
attack
the
city
walls.
34
He
will
return
to
his
country
the
same
way
he
came,
and
he
will
not
enter
this
city,'
says
the
Lord.
35
'I
will
defend
and
save
this
city
for
my
sake
and
for
David,
my
servant.'"
36
Then
the
angel
of
the
Lord
went
out
and
killed
one
hundred
eighty-five
thousand
men
in
the
Assyrian
camp.
When
the
people
got
up
early
the
next
morning,
they
saw
all
the
dead
bodies.
37
So
Sennacherib
king
of
Assyria
left
and
went
back
to
Nineveh
and
stayed
there.
38
One
day
as
Sennacherib
was
worshiping
in
the
temple
of
his
god
Nisroch,
his
sons
Adrammelech
and
Sharezer
killed
him
with
a
sword.
Then
they
escaped
to
the
land
of
Ararat.
So
Sennacherib's
son
Esarhaddon
became
king
of
Assyria.

And
it
happened
when
King
Hezekiah
heard,
he
tore
his
garments
and
was
covered
with
sackcloth.
And
he
went
into
the

2
And
he
sent
Eliakim,
who
was
over
the
house,
and
Shebna
the

the

covered

sackcloth,
to
Isaiah

Amoz.
3
And
they
said
to
him,
So
says
Hezekiah,
This
day
is
a
day
of
distress,
and
reproach,
and
contempt.
For
sons
have
come
to
the
breach
and
there
is
no

4
It
may
be
Jehovah
your
God
will
hear
the
words
of
the
chief
of
the
cupbearers
whom
his
master
the
king
of
Assyria
has
sent
to
reproach
the
living
God,
and
rebuke
against
the
words
which
Jehovah
your
God
has
heard.
And
you
shall
lift
up
prayer
for
the
remnant
that
is
found.
5
So
the
servants
of
King
Hezekiah
came
to
Isaiah.
6
And
Isaiah
said
to
them,
You
shall
say
this
to
your
master,
So
says
Jehovah:
Do
not
fear
the
words
which
you
have
heard,
with
which
the
followers
of
the
king
of
Assyria
have
blasphemed
Me
7
Behold,
I
am
giving
into
him
a
spirit,
and
he
shall
hear
a
rumor,
and
return
to
his
own
land.
And
I
will
cause
him
to
fall
by
the
sword
in
his
own
land.
8
So
the
chief
of
the
cupbearers
returned
and
found
the
king
of
Assyria
warring
against
Libnah;
for
he
had
heard
that
he
had
pulled
up
stakes
from
Lachish.
9
And
he
heard
about
Tirhakah
the
king
of
Ethiopia,
saying,
He
has
come
out
to
fight
with
you.
And
he
heard
and
sent
messengers
to
Hezekiah,
saying,
10
So
you
shall
say
to
Hezekiah,
king
of
Judah,
saying,
Do
not
let
your
God
in
whom
you
trust
deceive
you,
saying,
Jerusalem
shall
not
be
given
into
the
king
of
Assyria's
hand.
11
Behold,
you
have
heard
what
the
kings
of
Assyria
have
done
to
all
lands,
to
destroy
them
utterly.
And
shall
you
be
delivered?
12
Have
the
gods
of
the
nations
saved
those
whom
my
fathers
have
destroyed,
Gozan
and
Haran,
and
Rezeph,
and
the
sons
of
Eden
in
Telassar?
13
Where
is
Hamath's
king,
and
Arpad's
king,
and
the
king
of
the
city
of
Sepharvaim,
Hena,
and
Ivah?
14
And
Hezekiah
received
the
letter
from
the
hand
of
the
couriers,
and
read
it.
Then
Hezekiah
went
up
to
the
house
of
Jehovah
and
spread
it
before
Jehovah.
15
And
Hezekiah
prayed
to
Jehovah,
saying,
16
O
Jehovah
of
Hosts,
God
of
Israel,
who
dwells
between
the
cherubs,
You
are
He,
God,
You
alone
to
all
the
kingdoms
of
the
earth.
You
have
made
the
heavens
and
the
earth.
17
Bow
down
Your
ear,
O
Jehovah,
and
hear.
Open
Your
eye,
O
Jehovah,
and
see;
and
hear
all
the
words
of
Sennacherib
which
he
has
sent,
to
reproach
the
living
God.
18
Truly,
O
Jehovah,
the
kings
of
Assyria
have
laid
waste
all
the
lands,
and
their
land,
19
and
have
given
their
gods
into
the
fire
(for
they
were
not
gods,
only
the
work
of
men's
hands,
wood
and
stone;
so
they
have
destroyed
them).
20
And
now,
O
Jehovah
our
God,
save
us
from
his
hand,
so
that
all
the
kingdoms
of
the
earth
may
know
that
You
are
Jehovah,
You
alone.
21
And
Isaiah
the
son
of
Amoz
sent
to
Hezekiah,
saying,
So
says
Jehovah,
God
of
Israel,
Because
you
have
prayed
to
Me
against
Sennacherib
the
king
of
Assyria,
22
this
is
the
Word
Jehovah
has
spoken
about
him:
The
virgin,
the
daughter
of
Zion,
has
despised
you,
laughing
you
to
scorn;
the
daughter
of
Jerusalem
has
shaken
the
head
behind
you.
23
Whom
have
you
mocked
and
reviled?
And
against
whom
have
you
lifted
your
voice,
and
lifted
your
eyes
on
high?
Against
the
Holy
One
of
Israel!
24
By
your
servants,
you
have
mocked
the
Lord,
and
said,
By
my
many
chariots
I
have
come
up
to
the
tops
of
mountains,
the
sides
of
Lebanon;
and
I
will
cut
down
its
tall
cedars,
its
choice
fir
trees;
and
I
will
go
to
its
greatest
height,
the
forest
of
its
fruitful
field.
25
I
have
dug
and
drunk
water;
and
I
have
dried
up
the
streams
of
Egypt
with
the
sole
of
my
feet.
26
Have
you
not
heard
it
from
afar?
I
have
made
it
from
days
of
old,
even
I
formed
it.
Now
I
have
caused
it
to
come,
and
you
are
to
cause
fortified
cities
to
crash
into
heaps,
ruins.
27
And
those
living
in
it
were
short
of
hand,
dismayed
and
ashamed.
They
were
as
the
field
grass
and
the
green
herbs;
like
the
grass
of
the
housetops,
even
blasted
before
it
has
risen.
28
But
I
know
your
sitting
down,
and
your
going
out,
and
your
coming
in,
and
your
raging
against
Me.
29
Because
of
your
raging
against
Me,
and
your
arrogance
has
come
up
to
My
ears,
even
I
will
put
My
hook
in
your
nose,
and
My
bridle
in
your
lips;
and
I
will
turn
you
back
by
the
way
you
came
in.
30
And
this
shall
be
the
sign
to
you:
You
shall
eat
self-sown
grain
this
year;
and
the
second
year,
that
which
springs
up;
and
in
the
third
year
you
shall
sow
and
reap,
and
plant
vineyards,
and
eat
their
fruit.
31
The
remnant
of
the
house
of
Judah
that
has
escaped
shall
again
take
root
downward,
and
it
produces
fruit
upward.
32
For
a
remnant
shall
go
out
of
Jerusalem,
and
the
escaped
ones
out
of
Mount
Zion;
the
zeal
of
Jehovah
of
Hosts
shall
do
this.
33
So
Jehovah
says
this
to
the
king
of
Assyria,
He
shall
not
come
into
this
city,
nor
shoot
an
arrow
there,
nor
come
before
it
with
a
shield,
nor
pour
out
a
siege
mound
on
it.
34
He
shall
return
by
the
same
way
that
he
came
in,
and
he
shall
not
come
into
this
city,
says
Jehovah.
35
For
I
will
defend
over
this
city
to
save
it,
for
My
own
sake,
and
for
My
servant
David's
sake.
36
Then
the
Angel
of
Jehovah
went
out
and
struck
a
hundred
and
eighty
five
thousand
in
the
camp
of
Assyria.
And
they
rose
early
in
the
morning;
and,
behold!
They
were
all
dead
corpses.
37
And
Sennacherib,
king
of
Assyria,
set
out,
and
went
and
returned;
and
he
lived
at
Nineveh.
38
And
it
happened
as
he
was
worshiping
in
the
house
of
his
god
Nisroch,
even
his
sons
Adrammelech
and
Sharezer
struck
him
with
the
sword.
And
they
escaped
into
the
land
of
Ararat.
And
his
son
Esar-haddon
reigned
in
his
place.

When
King
Hezekiah
heard
their
report,
he
tore
his
clothes,
put
on
sackcloth,
and
went
to
the
house
of
the
LORD.
2
Then
he
sent
Eliakim,
who
was
in
charge
of
the
palace,
Shebna
the
scribe,
and
the
older
priests,
wearing
sackcloth,
to
the

Isaiah
son
of
Amoz.
3
They
said
to
him,
"Hezekiah
says:
'Today
is
a
day
of
distress,
rebuke,
and
disgrace,
as
when
children
come
to
the
point
of
birth,
and
there
is
no
strength
to
deliver
them.
4
Perhaps
the
LORD
your
God
will
hear
the
words
of
the
Rabshakeh,
whom
his
master,
the
king
of
Assyria,
sent
to
mock
the
living
God,
and
will
rebuke
him
for
the
words
that
the
LORD
your
God
has
heard.
Therefore
offer
a

for
the
surviving

Hezekiah's

Isaiah
said

them,
"Say
this
to
your
master,
'The
LORD
says:
Don't
be
afraid
because
of
the
words
you
have
heard,
which
the
king
of
Assyria's
attendants
have
blasphemed
Me
with.
7
Look!
I
am
putting
a
spirit
in
him
and
he
will
hear
a
rumor
and
return
to
his
own
land,
where
I
will
cause
him
to
fall
by
the
sword.'"
8
When
the
Rabshakeh
heard
that
the
king
had
left
Lachish,
he
returned
and
discovered
that
the
king
of
Assyria
was
fighting
against
Libnah.
9
The
king
had
heard
this
about
Tirhakah,
king
of
Cush:
"He
has
set
out
to
fight
against
you."
So
when
he
heard
this,
he
sent
messengers
to
Hezekiah,
saying,
10
"Say
this
to
Hezekiah
king
of
Judah:
'Don't
let
your
God,
whom
you
trust,
deceive
you
by
saying
that
Jerusalem
won't
be
handed
over
to
the
king
of
Assyria.
11
Look,
you
have
heard
what
the
kings
of
Assyria
have
done
to
all
the
countries;
they
destroyed
them
completely.
Will
you
be
rescued?
12
Did
the
gods
of
the
nations
that
my
predecessors
destroyed
rescue
them--
Gozan,
Haran,
Rezeph,
and
the
Edenites
in
Telassar?
13
Where
is
the
king
of
Hamath,
the
king
of
Arpad,
the
king
of
the
city
of
Sepharvaim,
Hena,
or
Ivvah?'"
14
Hezekiah
took
the
letter
from
the
messengers,
read
it,
then
went
up
to
the
LORD's
house
and
spread
it
out
before
the
LORD.
15
Hezekiah
prayed
to
the
LORD:
16
"LORD
of
Hosts,
God
of
Israel,
who
is
enthroned
above
the
cherubim,
You
are
God--
You
alone--
of
all
the
kingdoms
of
the
earth.
You
made
the
heavens
and
the
earth.
17
Listen
closely,
LORD,
and
hear;
open
Your
eyes,
LORD,
and
see;
hear
all
the
words
that
Sennacherib
has
sent
to
mock
the
living
God.
18
LORD,
it
is
true
that
the
kings
of
Assyria
have
devastated
all
these
countries
and
their
lands
19
and
have
thrown
their
gods
into
the
fire;
for
they
were
not
gods
but
made
by
human
hands--
wood
and
stone.
So
they
have
destroyed
them.
20
Now,
LORD
our
God,
save
us
from
his
hand
so
that
all
the
kingdoms
of
the
earth
may
know
that
You
are
the
LORD--
You
alone."
21
Then
Isaiah
son
of
Amoz
sent
a
message
to
Hezekiah:
"The
LORD,
the
God
of
Israel,
says:
'Because
you
prayed
to
Me
about
Sennacherib
king
of
Assyria,
22
this
is
the
word
the
LORD
has
spoken
against
him:
The
young
woman,
Daughter
Zion,
despises
you
and
scorns
you:
Daughter
Jerusalem
shakes
her
head
behind
your
back.
23
Who
is
it
you
have
mocked
and
blasphemed?
Who
have
you
raised
your
voice
against
and
lifted
your
eyes
in
pride?
Against
the
Holy
One
of
Israel!
24
You
have
mocked
the
LORD
through
your
servants.
You
have
said:
With
my
many
chariots
I
have
gone
up
to
the
heights
of
the
mountains,
to
the
far
recesses
of
Lebanon.
I
cut
down
its
tallest
cedars,
its
choice
cypress
trees.
I
came
to
its
remotest
heights,
its
densest
forest.
25
I
dug
wells
and
drank
water.
I
dried
up
all
the
streams
of
Egypt
with
the
soles
of
my
feet.
26
Have
you
not
heard?
I
designed
it
long
ago;
I
planned
it
in
days
gone
by.
I
have
now
brought
it
to
pass,
and
you
have
crushed
fortified
cities
into
piles
of
rubble.
27
Their
inhabitants
have
become
powerless,
dismayed,
and
ashamed.
They
are
plants
of
the
field,
tender
grass,
grass
on
the
rooftops,
blasted
by
the
east
wind.
28
But
I
know
your
sitting
down,
your
going
out
and
your
coming
in,
and
your
raging
against
Me.
29
Because
your
raging
against
Me
and
your
arrogance
has
reached
My
ears,
I
will
put
My
hook
in
your
nose
and
My
bit
in
your
mouth;
I
will
make
you
go
back
the
way
you
came.
30
"
'This
will
be
the
sign
for
you:
This
year
you
will
eat
what
grows
on
its
own,
and
in
the
second
year
what
grows
from
that.
But
in
the
third
year
sow
and
reap,
plant
vineyards
and
eat
their
fruit.
31
The
surviving
remnant
of
the
house
of
Judah
will
again
take
root
downward
and
bear
fruit
upward.
32
For
a
remnant
will
go
out
from
Jerusalem,
and
survivors
from
Mount
Zion.
The
zeal
of
the
LORD
of
Hosts
will
accomplish
this.'
33
"
'Therefore,
this
is
what
the
LORD
says
about
the
king
of
Assyria:
He
will
not
enter
this
city
or
shoot
an
arrow
there
or
come
before
it
with
a
shield
or
build
up
an
assault
ramp
against
it.
34
He
will
go
back
on
the
road
that
he
came
and
he
will
not
enter
this
city.
This
is
the
LORD's
declaration.
35
I
will
defend
this
city
and
rescue
it,
because
of
Me
and
because
of
My
servant
David.'"
36
Then
the
angel
of
the
LORD
went
out
and
struck
down
185,000
in
the
camp
of
the
Assyrians.
When
the
people
got
up
the
next
morning--
there
were
all
the
dead
bodies!
37
So
Sennacherib
king
of
Assyria
broke
camp
and
left.
He
returned
home
and
lived
in
Nineveh.
38
One
day,
while
he
was
worshiping
in
the
temple
of
his
god
Nisroch,
his
sons
Adrammelech
and
Sharezer
struck
him
down
with
the
sword
and
escaped
to
the
land
of
Ararat.
Then
his
son
Esar-haddon
became
king
in
his
place.
