• 7 "Jacob is a real merchant. He even cheats his friend! Even his scales lie.
• 8 Ephraim said, 'I am rich! I have found true riches! No one will learn about my crimes. No one will learn about my sins.'
• 9 "But I am still the Lord your God, as I was when you left the land of Egypt. I will make you live in tents, as you do during the Festival of Shelters.
• 10 I spoke to the prophets and gave them many visions. I gave the prophets many ways to teach my lessons to you.
• 11 But the people in Gilead have sinned. There are many disgusting idols in that place. They offer sacrifices to bulls at Gilgal. They have many altars. There are rows and rows of altars—like the rows of dirt in a plowed field.
• 12 "Jacob ran away to the land of Aram. There Israel worked for a wife. He kept sheep to get another wife.
• 13 But the Lord used a prophet and brought Israel out of Egypt. He used a prophet and kept Israel safe.
• 14 But Ephraim made the Lord very angry. Ephraim killed many people, so he will be punished for his crimes. His Lord will make him bear his shame."

• 9 But I the Lord thy God brought thee up out of the land of Egypt: I will yet cause thee to dwell in tabernacles, according to the days of the feast.
• 10 And I will speak to the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and by the means of the prophets I was represented.
• 11 See Heb. If Galaad exists not, then the chiefs in Galaad when they sacrificed were false, and their altars were as heaps on the ground of the field.
• 12 And Jacob retreated into the plain of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and waited for a wife.
• 13 And the Lord brought Israel out of the land of Egypt by a prophet, and by a prophet was he preserved.
• 14 Ephraim was angry and Gr. excited himself to anger excited, therefore his blood shall be poured out upon him, and the Lord shall recompense to him his reproach.

• 6 So return to your God. Show kindness and do what is fair, and wait for your God all the time.
• 7 One who buys and sells and who lies about the weight of things loves to make it hard for others.
• 8 Ephraim has said, "I have become rich. I have found riches for myself. With all my riches they will not find any sin in me."
• 9 "I am the Lord your God Who brought you out of Egypt. I will make you live in tents again, as in the days of your special suppers.
• 10 I have spoken to the men who speak for Me. I have given many special dreams. And I gave picture-stories through the men who speak for Me."
• 11 Is there sin in Gilead? For sure its people are of no worth. In Gilgal they kill bulls in worship. Their altars are like the many stones laid beside a plowed field.
• 12 Jacob ran away to the land of Aram. There he worked for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.
• 13 By a man who spoke for Him, the Lord brought Israel from Egypt. And by a man who spoke for Him, the Lord cared for him.
• 14 But Ephraim has made the Lord very angry. So the Lord will leave on him the guilt of his blood, and make his shame return to him.

• 8 Israel said, "I am rich! I am someone with power!" All their money will do them no good because of the sins they have done.
• 9 "But I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt. I will make you live in tents again as you used to do on worship days.
• 10 I spoke to the prophets and gave them many visions; through them, I taught my lessons to you."
• 11 The people of Gilead are evil, worth nothing. Though people sacrifice bulls at Gilgal, their altars will become like piles of stone in a plowed field.
• 12 Your ancestor Jacob fled to Northwest Mesopotamia where he worked to get a wife; he tended sheep to pay for her.
• 13 Later the Lord used a prophet to bring Jacob's descendants out of Egypt; he used a prophet to take care of the Israelites.
• 14 But the Israelites made the Lord angry when they killed other people, and they deserve to die for their crimes. for the disgraceful things they have done.

• 9 And I am Jehovah, your God from the land of Egypt; yet I will make you live in tents, as in the days of meeting.
• 10 I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions; and by the hand of the prophets use parables.
• 11 Is Gilead evil? Surely they have been vanity. They sacrificed bulls in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the field.
• 12 And Jacob fled into the field of Syria, and Israel served for a wife; yea, he shepherded for a wife.
• 13 And by a prophet Jehovah brought up Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet he was kept safe.
• 14 Ephraim has provoked Me to anger most bitterly. And He shall leave his blood to him, and his Lord shall turn his reproach to him.

• 9 I have been the LORD your God ever since the land of Egypt. I will make you live in tents again, as in the festival days.
• 10 I spoke through the prophets and granted many visions; I gave parables through the prophets.
• 11 Since Gilead is full of evil, they will certainly come to nothing. They sacrifice bulls in Gilgal; even their altars will be like heaps of rocks on the furrows of a field.
• 12 Jacob fled to the land of Aram. Israel worked to earn a wife; he tended flocks for a wife.
• 13 The LORD brought Israel from Egypt by a prophet, and Israel was tended by a prophet.
• 14 Ephraim has provoked bitter anger, so his Lord will leave his bloodguilt on him and repay him for his contempt.
