1. Then Moses and the leaders of Israel gave this charge to the people: "Obey all these commands that I am giving you today.
|
1. And Moses H4872 with the elders H2205 of Israel H3478 commanded H6680 H853 the people H5971 , saying H559 , Keep H8104 H853 all H3605 the commandments H4687 which H834 I H595 command H6680 you this day H3117 .

2. When you cross the Jordan River and enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, set up some large stones and coat them with plaster.
|
2. And it shall be H1961 on the day H3117 when H834 ye shall pass over H5674 H853 Jordan H3383 unto H413 the land H776 which H834 the LORD H3068 thy God H430 giveth H5414 thee , that thou shalt set thee up H6965 great H1419 stones H68 , and plaster H7874 them with plaster H7875 :

3. Write this whole body of instruction on them when you cross the river to enter the land the LORD your God is giving you-- a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your ancestors, promised you.

3. And thou shalt write H3789 upon H5921 them H853 all H3605 the words H1697 of this H2063 law H8451 , when thou art passed over H5674 , that H4616 H834 thou mayest go in H935 unto H413 the land H776 which H834 the LORD H3068 thy God H430 giveth H5414 thee , a land H776 that floweth H2100 with milk H2461 and honey H1706 ; as H834 the LORD H3068 God H430 of thy fathers H1 hath promised H1696 thee.

4. When you cross the Jordan, set up these stones at Mount Ebal and coat them with plaster, as I am commanding you today.
|
4. Therefore it shall be H1961 when ye be gone over H5674 H853 Jordan H3383 , that ye shall set up H6965 H853 these H428 stones H68 , which H834 I H595 command H6680 you this day H3117 , in mount H2022 Ebal H5858 , and thou shalt plaster H7874 them with plaster H7875 .

5. "Then build an altar there to the LORD your God, using natural, uncut stones. You must not shape the stones with an iron tool.
|
5. And there H8033 shalt thou build H1129 an altar H4196 unto the LORD H3068 thy God H430 , an altar H4196 of stones H68 : thou shalt not H3808 lift up H5130 any iron H1270 tool upon H5921 them.

|
6. Build the altar of uncut stones, and use it to offer burnt offerings to the LORD your God.
|
6. Thou shalt build H1129 H853 the altar H4196 of the LORD H3068 thy God H430 of whole H8003 stones H68 : and thou shalt offer H5927 burnt offerings H5930 thereon H5921 unto the LORD H3068 thy God H430 :

7. Also sacrifice peace offerings on it, and celebrate by feasting there before the LORD your God.
|
7. And thou shalt offer H2076 peace offerings H8002 , and shalt eat H398 there H8033 , and rejoice H8055 before H6440 the LORD H3068 thy God H430 .
|
|
8. You must clearly write all these instructions on the stones coated with plaster."
|
8. And thou shalt write H3789 upon H5921 the stones H68 H853 all H3605 the words H1697 of this H2063 law H8451 very plainly H874 H3190 .

|
9. Then Moses and the Levitical priests addressed all Israel as follows: "O Israel, be quiet and listen! Today you have become the people of the LORD your God.
|
9. And Moses H4872 and the priests H3548 the Levites H3881 spoke H1696 unto H413 all H3605 Israel H3478 , saying H559 , Take heed H5535 , and hearken H8085 , O Israel H3478 ; this H2088 day H3117 thou art become H1961 the people H5971 of the LORD H3068 thy God H430 .

10. So you must obey the LORD your God by keeping all these commands and decrees that I am giving you today."

10. Thou shalt therefore obey H8085 the voice H6963 of the LORD H3068 thy God H430 , and do H6213 H853 his commandments H4687 and his statutes H2706 , which H834 I H595 command H6680 thee this day H3117 .

11. That same day Moses also gave this charge to the people:
|
11. And Moses H4872 charged H6680 H853 the people H5971 the same H1931 day H3117 , saying H559 ,

|
12. "When you cross the Jordan River, the tribes of Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin must stand on Mount Gerizim to proclaim a blessing over the people.
|
12. These H428 shall stand H5975 upon H5921 mount H2022 Gerizim H1630 to bless H1288 H853 the people H5971 , when ye are come over H5674 H853 Jordan H3383 ; Simeon H8095 , and Levi H3878 , and Judah H3063 , and Issachar H3485 , and Joseph H3130 , and Benjamin H1144 :

13. And the tribes of Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali must stand on Mount Ebal to proclaim a curse.

13. And these H428 shall stand H5975 upon mount H2022 Ebal H5858 to H5921 curse H7045 ; Reuben H7205 , Gad H1410 , and Asher H836 , and Zebulun H2074 , Dan H1835 , and Naphtali H5321 .

14. "Then the Levites will shout to all the people of Israel:
|
14. And the Levites H3881 shall speak H6030 , and say H559 unto H413 all H3605 the men H376 of Israel H3478 with a loud H7311 voice H6963 ,
|
|
15. 'Cursed is anyone who carves or casts an idol and secretly sets it up. These idols, the work of craftsmen, are detestable to the LORD.' And all the people will reply, 'Amen.'
|
15. Cursed H779 be the man H376 that H834 maketh H6213 any graven H6459 or molten image H4541 , an abomination H8441 unto the LORD H3068 , the work H4639 of the hands H3027 of the craftsman H2796 , and putteth H7760 it in a secret H5643 place . And all H3605 the people H5971 shall answer H6030 and say H559 , Amen H543 .

16. 'Cursed is anyone who dishonors father or mother.' And all the people will reply, 'Amen.'
|
16. Cursed H779 be he that setteth light H7034 by his father H1 or his mother H517 . And all H3605 the people H5971 shall say H559 , Amen H543 .
|
|
17. 'Cursed is anyone who steals property from a neighbor by moving a boundary marker.' And all the people will reply, 'Amen.'
|
17. Cursed H779 be he that removeth H5253 his neighbor H7453 's landmark H1366 . And all H3605 the people H5971 shall say H559 , Amen H543 .
|
|
18. 'Cursed is anyone who leads a blind person astray on the road.' And all the people will reply, 'Amen.'
|
18. Cursed H779 be he that maketh the blind H5787 to wander H7686 out of the way H1870 . And all H3605 the people H5971 shall say H559 , Amen H543 .
|
|
19. 'Cursed is anyone who denies justice to foreigners, orphans, or widows.' And all the people will reply, 'Amen.'
|
19. Cursed H779 be he that perverteth H5186 the judgment H4941 of the stranger H1616 , fatherless H3490 , and widow H490 . And all H3605 the people H5971 shall say H559 , Amen H543 .

20. 'Cursed is anyone who has sexual intercourse with one of his father's wives, for he has violated his father.' And all the people will reply, 'Amen.'

20. Cursed H779 be he that lieth H7901 with H5973 his father H1 's wife H802 ; because H3588 he uncovereth H1540 his father H1 's skirt H3671 . And all H3605 the people H5971 shall say H559 , Amen H543 .

21. 'Cursed is anyone who has sexual intercourse with an animal.' And all the people will reply, 'Amen.'
|
21. Cursed H779 be he that lieth H7901 with H5973 any manner H3605 of beast H929 . And all H3605 the people H5971 shall say H559 , Amen H543 .

|
22. 'Cursed is anyone who has sexual intercourse with his sister, whether she is the daughter of his father or his mother.' And all the people will reply, 'Amen.'

22. Cursed H779 be he that lieth H7901 with H5973 his sister H269 , the daughter H1323 of his father H1 , or H176 the daughter H1323 of his mother H517 . And all H3605 the people H5971 shall say H559 , Amen H543 .

23. 'Cursed is anyone who has sexual intercourse with his mother-in-law.' And all the people will reply, 'Amen.'
|
23. Cursed H779 be he that lieth H7901 with H5973 his mother H2859 -in-law . And all H3605 the people H5971 shall say H559 , Amen H543 .
|
|
24. 'Cursed is anyone who attacks a neighbor in secret.' And all the people will reply, 'Amen.'
|
24. Cursed H779 be he that smiteth H5221 his neighbor H7453 secretly H5643 . And all H3605 the people H5971 shall say H559 , Amen H543 .
|
|
25. 'Cursed is anyone who accepts payment to kill an innocent person.' And all the people will reply, 'Amen.'
|
25. Cursed H779 be he that taketh H3947 reward H7810 to slay H5221 an innocent H5355 person H5315 . And all H3605 the people H5971 shall say H559 , Amen H543 .

26. 'Cursed is anyone who does not affirm and obey the terms of these instructions.' And all the people will reply, 'Amen.'

26. Cursed H779 be he that H834 confirmeth H6965 not H3808 all H853 the words H1697 of this H2063 law H8451 to do H6213 them . And all H3605 the people H5971 shall say H559 , Amen H543 .
