Now

king

Israel,
that
Hezekiah
the

king
of
Judah
began

2
Twenty

he
when
he
began
to
reign;
and
he
reigned
twenty

nine
years
in
Jerusalem.
His
mother's
name
also
was
Abi,
the
daughter
of
Zachariah.
3
And
he
did
that
which
was
right
in
the
sight
of
the
LORD,
according
to
all
that
David
his
father
did.
4
He
removed
the
high
places,
and
brake
the
images,
and
cut
down
the
groves,
and
brake
in
pieces
the
brasen
serpent
that
Moses
had
made:
for
unto
those
days
the
children
of
Israel
did
burn
incense
to
it:
and
he
called
it
Nehushtan.
5
He
trusted
in
the
LORD
God
of
Israel;
so
that
after
him
was
none
like
him
among
all
the
kings
of
Judah,
nor
any
that
were
before
him.
6
For
he
clave
to
the
LORD,
and
departed
not
from
following
him,
but
kept
his
commandments,
which
the
LORD
commanded
Moses.
7
And
the
LORD
was
with
him;
and
he
prospered
whithersoever
he
went
forth:
and
he
rebelled
against
the
king
of
Assyria,
and
served
him
not.
8
He
smote
the
Philistines,
even
unto
Gaza,
and
the
borders
thereof,
from
the
tower
of
the
watchmen
to
the
fenced
city.
9
And
it
came
to
pass
in
the
fourth
year
of
king
Hezekiah,
which
was
the
seventh
year
of
Hoshea
son
of
Elah
king
of
Israel,
that
Shalmaneser
king
of
Assyria
came
up
against
Samaria,
and
besieged
it.
10
And
at
the
end
of
three
years
they
took
it:
even
in
the
sixth
year
of
Hezekiah,
that
is
the
ninth
year
of
Hoshea
king
of
Israel,
Samaria
was
taken.
11
And
the
king
of
Assyria
did
carry
away
Israel
unto
Assyria,
and
put
them
in
Halah
and
in
Habor
by
the
river
of
Gozan,
and
in
the
cities
of
the
Medes:
12
Because
they
obeyed
not
the
voice
of
the
LORD
their
God,
but
transgressed
his
covenant,
and
all
that
Moses
the
servant
of
the
LORD
commanded,
and
would
not
hear
them,
nor
do
them.
13
Now
in
the
fourteenth
year
of
king
Hezekiah
did
Sennacherib
king
of
Assyria
come
up
against
all
the
fenced
cities
of
Judah,
and
took
them.
14
And
Hezekiah
king
of
Judah
sent
to
the
king
of
Assyria
to
Lachish,
saying,
I
have
offended;
return
from
me:
that
which
thou
puttest
on
me
will
I
bear.
And
the
king
of
Assyria
appointed
unto
Hezekiah
king
of
Judah
three
hundred
talents
of
silver
and
thirty
talents
of
gold.
15
And
Hezekiah
gave
him
all
the
silver
that
was
found
in
the
house
of
the
LORD,
and
in
the
treasures
of
the
king's
house.
16
At
that
time
did
Hezekiah
cut
off
the
gold
from
the
doors
of
the
temple
of
the
LORD,
and
from
the
pillars
which
Hezekiah
king
of
Judah
had
overlaid,
and
gave
it
to
the
king
of
Assyria.
17
And
the
king
of
Assyria
sent
Tartan
and
Rabsaris
and
Rabshakeh
from
Lachish
to
king
Hezekiah
with
a
great
host
against
Jerusalem.
And
they
went
up
and
came
to
Jerusalem.
And
when
they
were
come
up,
they
came
and
stood
by
the
conduit
of
the
upper
pool,
which
is
in
the
highway
of
the
fuller's
field.
18
And
when
they
had
called
to
the
king,
there
came
out
to
them
Eliakim
the
son
of
Hilkiah,
which
was
over
the
household,
and
Shebna
the
scribe,
and
Joah
the
son
of
Asaph
the
recorder.
19
And
Rabshakeh
said
unto
them,
Speak
ye
now
to
Hezekiah,
Thus
saith
the
great
king,
the
king
of
Assyria,
What
confidence
is
this
wherein
thou
trustest?
20
Thou
sayest,
(but
they
are
but
vain
words,)
I
have
counsel
and
strength
for
the
war.
Now
on
whom
dost
thou
trust,
that
thou
rebellest
against
me?
21
Now,
behold,
thou
trustest
upon
the
staff
of
this
bruised
reed,
even
upon
Egypt,
on
which
if
a
man
lean,
it
will
go
into
his
hand,
and
pierce
it:
so
is
Pharaoh
king
of
Egypt
unto
all
that
trust
on
him.
22
But
if
ye
say
unto
me,
We
trust
in
the
LORD
our
God:
is
not
that
he,
whose
high
places
and
whose
altars
Hezekiah
hath
taken
away,
and
hath
said
to
Judah
and
Jerusalem,
Ye
shall
worship
before
this
altar
in
Jerusalem?
23
Now
therefore,
I
pray
thee,
give
pledges
to
my
lord
the
king
of
Assyria,
and
I
will
deliver
thee
two
thousand
horses,
if
thou
be
able
on
thy
part
to
set
riders
upon
them.
24
How
then
wilt
thou
turn
away
the
face
of
one
captain
of
the
least
of
my
master's
servants,
and
put
thy
trust
on
Egypt
for
chariots
and
for
horsemen?
25
Am
I
now
come
up
without
the
LORD
against
this
place
to
destroy
it?
The
LORD
said
to
me,
Go
up
against
this
land,
and
destroy
it.
26
Then
said
Eliakim
the
son
of
Hilkiah,
and
Shebna,
and
Joah,
unto
Rabshakeh,
Speak,
I
pray
thee,
to
thy
servants
in
the
Syrian
language;
for
we
understand
it:
and
talk
not
with
us
in
the
Jews'
language
in
the
ears
of
the
people
that
are
on
the
wall.
27
But
Rabshakeh
said
unto
them,
Hath
my
master
sent
me
to
thy
master,
and
to
thee,
to
speak
these
words?
hath
he
not
sent
me
to
the
men
which
sit
on
the
wall,
that
they
may
eat
their
own
dung,
and
drink
their
own
piss
with
you?
28
Then
Rabshakeh
stood
and
cried
with
a
loud
voice
in
the
Jews'
language,
and
spake,
saying,
Hear
the
word
of
the
great
king,
the
king
of
Assyria:
29
Thus
saith
the
king,
Let
not
Hezekiah
deceive
you:
for
he
shall
not
be
able
to
deliver
you
out
of
his
hand:
30
Neither
let
Hezekiah
make
you
trust
in
the
LORD,
saying,
The
LORD
will
surely
deliver
us,
and
this
city
shall
not
be
delivered
into
the
hand
of
the
king
of
Assyria.
31
Hearken
not
to
Hezekiah:
for
thus
saith
the
king
of
Assyria,
Make
an
agreement
with
me
by
a
present,
and
come
out
to
me,
and
then
eat
ye
every
man
of
his
own
vine,
and
every
one
of
his
fig
tree,
and
drink
ye
every
one
the
waters
of
his
cistern:
32
Until
I
come
and
take
you
away
to
a
land
like
your
own
land,
a
land
of
corn
and
wine,
a
land
of
bread
and
vineyards,
a
land
of
oil
olive
and
of
honey,
that
ye
may
live,
and
not
die:
and
hearken
not
unto
Hezekiah,
when
he
persuadeth
you,
saying,
The
LORD
will
deliver
us.
33
Hath
any
of
the
gods
of
the
nations
delivered
at
all
his
land
out
of
the
hand
of
the
king
of
Assyria?
34
Where
are
the
gods
of
Hamath,
and
of
Arpad?
where
are
the
gods
of
Sepharvaim,
Hena,
and
Ivah?
have
they
delivered
Samaria
out
of
mine
hand?
35
Who
are
they
among
all
the
gods
of
the
countries,
that
have
delivered
their
country
out
of
mine
hand,
that
the
LORD
should
deliver
Jerusalem
out
of
mine
hand?
36
But
the
people
held
their
peace,
and
answered
him
not
a
word:
for
the
king's
commandment
was,
saying,
Answer
him
not.
37
Then
came
Eliakim
the
son
of
Hilkiah,
which
was
over
the
household,
and
Shebna
the
scribe,
and
Joah
the
son
of
Asaph
the
recorder,
to
Hezekiah
with
their
clothes
rent,
and
told
him
the
words
of
Rabshakeh.
1 Corinthians 15:32
32
If
after
the
manner
of
men
I
have
fought
with
beasts
at
Ephesus,
what
advantageth
it
me,
if
the
dead
rise
not?
let
us
eat
and
drink;
for
to
morrow
we
die.

Now
in
the
fourteenth
H702
H6240
year
H8141
of
king
H4428
Hezekiah
H2396
did
Sennacherib
H5576
king
H4428
of

H804
come
up
H5927
against
H5921
all
H3605
the
fenced
H1219
cities
H5892
of
Judah,
H3063
and
took

them.
14
And
Hezekiah
H2396
king
H4428
of
Judah
H3063
sent
H7971
to
H413
the
king
H4428
of
Assyria
H804
to
Lachish,
H3923
saying,
H559
I
have
offended;
H2398
return
H7725
from
H4480
H5921
me:
H853
that
which
H834
thou
puttest
H5414
on
H5921
me
will
I
bear.
H5375
And
the
king
H4428
of
Assyria
H804
appointed
H7760
unto
H5921
Hezekiah
H2396
king
H4428
of
Judah
H3063
three
H7969
hundred
H3967
talents
H3603
of
silver
H3701
and
thirty
H7970
talents
H3603
of
gold.
H2091
15
And
Hezekiah
H2396
gave
H5414
him
H853
all
H3605
the
silver
H3701
that
was
found
H4672
in
the
house
H1004
of
the
LORD,
H3068
and
in
the
treasures
H214
of
the
king's
H4428
house.
H1004
16
At
that
H1931
time
H6256
did
Hezekiah
H2396
cut
off
H7112
the
gold
from
H853
the
doors
H1817
of
the
temple
H1964
of
the
LORD,
H3068
and
from
the
pillars
H547
which
H834
Hezekiah
H2396
king
H4428
of
Judah
H3063
had
overlaid,
H6823
and
gave
H5414
it
to
the
king
H4428
of
Assyria.
H804
17
And
the
king
H4428
of
Assyria
H804
sent
H7971
H853
Tartan
H8661
and
Rabsaris
H7249
and
Rab-
H7262
shakeh
from
H4480
Lachish
H3923
to
H413
king
H4428
Hezekiah
H2396
with
a
great
H3515
host
H2426
against
Jerusalem.
H3389
And
they
went
up
H5927
and
came
H935
to
Jerusalem.
H3389
And
when
they
were
come
up,
H5927
they
came
H935
and
stood
H5975
by
the
conduit
H8585
of
the
upper
H5945
pool,
H1295
which
H834
is
in
the
highway
H4546
of
the
fuller's
H3526
field.
H7704
18
And
when
they
had
called
H7121
to
H413
the
king,
H4428
there
came
out
H3318
to
H413
them
Eliakim
H471
the
son
H1121
of
Hilkiah,
H2518
which
H834
was
over
H5921
the
household,
H1004
and
Shebna
H7644
the
scribe,
H5608
and
Joah
H3098
the
son
H1121
of
Asaph
H623
the
recorder.
H2142
19
And
Rab-
H7262
shakeh
said
H559
unto
H413
them,
Speak
H559
ye
now
H4994
to
H413
Hezekiah,
H2396
Thus
H3541
saith
H559
the
great
H1419
king,
H4428
the
king
H4428
of
Assyria,
H804
What
H4100
confidence
H986
is
this
H2088
wherein
H834
thou
trustest
H982
?
20
Thou
sayest,
H559
(
but
H389
they
are
but
vain
H8193
words,
H1697
)
I
have
counsel
H6098
and
strength
H1369
for
the
war.
H4421
Now
H6258
on
H5921
whom
H4310
dost
thou
trust,
H982
that
H3588
thou
rebellest
H4775
against
me?
21
Now
H6258
,
behold,
H2009
thou
trustest
H982
upon
H5921
the
staff
H4938
of
this
H2088
bruised
H7533
reed,
H7070
even
upon
H5921
Egypt,
H4714
on
H5921
which
H834
if
a
man
H376
lean,
H5564
it
will
go
H935
into
his
hand,
H3709
and
pierce
H5344
it:
so
H3651
is
Pharaoh
H6547
king
H4428
of
Egypt
H4714
unto
all
H3605
that
trust
H982
on
H5921
him.
22
But
if
H3588
ye
say
H559
unto
H413
me
,
We
trust
H982
in
H413
the
LORD
H3068
our
God:
H430
is
not
H3808
that
he,
H1931
whose
H834
H853
high
places
H1116
and
whose
altars
H4196
Hezekiah
H2396
hath
taken
away,
H5493
and
hath
said
H559
to
Judah
H3063
and
Jerusalem,
H3389
Ye
shall
worship
H7812
before
H6440
this
H2088
altar
H4196
in
Jerusalem
H3389
?
23
Now
H6258
therefore
,
I
pray
thee,
H4994
give
pledges
H6149
to
H854
my
lord
H113
the
king
H4428
of
Assyria,
H804
and
I
will
deliver
H5414
thee
two
thousand
H505
horses,
H5483
if
H518
thou
be
able
H3201
on
thy
part
to
set
H5414
riders
H7392
upon
H5921
them.
24
How
H349
then
wilt
thou
turn
away
H7725
H853
the
face
H6440
of
one
H259
captain
H6346
of
the
least
H6996
of
my
master's
H113
servants,
H5650
and
put
thy
trust
H982
on
H5921
Egypt
H4714
for
chariots
H7393
and
for
horsemen
H6571
?
25
Am
I
now
H6258
come
up
H5927
without
H4480
H1107
the
LORD
H3068
against
H5921
this
H2088
place
H4725
to
destroy
H7843
it?
The
LORD
H3068
said
H559
to
H413
me
,
Go
up
H5927
against
H5921
this
H2063
land,
H776
and
destroy
H7843
it.
26
Then
said
H559
Eliakim
H471
the
son
H1121
of
Hilkiah,
H2518
and
Shebna,
H7644
and
Joah,
H3098
unto
H413
Rab-
H7262
shakeh,
Speak,
H1696
I
pray
thee,
H4994
to
H413
thy
servants
H5650
in
the
Syrian
language;
H762
for
H3588
we
H587
understand
H8085
it
:
and
talk
H1696
not
H408
with
H5973
us
in
the
Jews'
language
H3066
in
the
ears
H241
of
the
people
H5971
that
H834
are
on
H5921
the
wall.
H2346
27
But
Rab-
H7262
shakeh
said
H559
unto
H413
them
,
Hath
my
master
H113
sent
H7971
me
to
H5921
thy
master,
H113
and
to
H413
thee
,
to
speak
H1696
H853
these
H428
words
H1697
?
hath
he
not
H3808
sent
me
to
H5921
the
men
H376
which
sit
H3427
on
H5921
the
wall,
H2346
that
they
may
eat
H398
H853
their
own
dung,
H6675
and
drink
H8354
H853
their
own
piss
H4325
H7272
with
H5973
you?
28
Then
Rab-
H7262
shakeh
stood
H5975
and
cried
H7121
with
a
loud
H1419
voice
H6963
in
the
Jews'
language,
H3066
and
spoke,
H1696
saying,
H559
Hear
H8085
the
word
H1697
of
the
great
H1419
king,
H4428
the
king
H4428
of
Assyria:
H804
29
Thus
H3541
saith
H559
the
king,
H4428
Let
not
H408
Hezekiah
H2396
deceive
H5377
you:
for
H3588
he
shall
not
H3808
be
able
H3201
to
deliver
H5337
you
out
of
his
hand
H4480
H3027
:
30
Neither
H408
let
Hezekiah
H2396
make
you
trust
H982
H853
in
H413
the
LORD,
H3068
saying,
H559
The
LORD
H3068
will
surely
deliver
H5337
H5337
us
,
and
H853
this
H2063
city
H5892
shall
not
H3808
be
delivered
H5414
into
the
hand
H3027
of
the
king
H4428
of
Assyria.
H804
31
Hearken
H8085
not
H408
to
H413
Hezekiah:
H2396
for
H3588
thus
H3541
saith
H559
the
king
H4428
of
Assyria,
H804
Make
H6213
an
agreement
with
H854
me
by

What

Thou

counsel

now,

thou
hast
trusted
for

on

staff

this
broken
reed,
on
Egypt;
which
a
man
leaneth

pierced

--
so
is
Pharaoh
king

Egypt
to

on
him.
22
`And
when
ye
say
unto
me,
Unto
Jehovah
our
God
we
have
trusted,
is
it
not
He
whose
high
places
and
whose
altars
Hezekiah
hath
turned
aside,
and
saith
to
Judah
and
to
Jerusalem,
Before
this
altar
do
ye
bow
yourselves
in
Jerusalem?
23
`And,
now,
give
a
pledge
for
thee,
I
pray
thee,
to
my
lord
the
king
of
Asshur,
and
I
give
to
thee
two
thousand
horses,
if
thou

able

thee
riders
on
them.
24
And
how
dost
thou
turn
back
the
face
of
one
captain
of
the
least
of
the
servants
of
my
lord,
that
thou
dost
trust
for
thee
on
Egypt
for
chariot,
and
for
horsemen?
25
Now,
without
Jehovah
have
I
come
up
against
this
place
to
destroy
it?
Jehovah
said
unto
me,
Go
up
against
this
land,
and
thou
hast
destroyed
it.`
26
And
Eliakim
son
of
Hilkiah
saith
--
and
Shebna,
and
Joah
--
to
the
chief
of
the
butlers,
`Speak,
we
pray
thee,
unto
thy
servants
in
Aramaean,
for
we
are
understanding,
and
do
not
speak
with
us
in
Jewish,
in
the
ears
of
the
people
who
are
on
the
wall.`
27
And
the
chief
of
the
butlers
saith
unto
them,
`For
thy
lord,
and
unto
thee,
hath
my
lord
sent
me
to
speak
these
words?
is
it
not
for
the
men,
those
sitting
on
the
wall
to
eat
their
own
dung
and
to
drink
their
own
water,
with
you?`
28
And
the
chief
of
the
butlers
standeth
and
calleth
with
a
great
voice
in
Jewish,
and
speaketh
and
saith,

from
Lachish
to
king
Hezekiah
with
a
great
army
unto
Jerusalem.
And
they
went
up
and
came
to
Jerusalem.
And
when
they
were
come
up,
they
came
and
stood
by
the
conduit
of
the
upper
pool,
which
is
in
the
highway
of
the
fullers
field.
18
And
when
they
had
called
to
the
king,
there
came
out
to
them
Eliakim
the
son
of
Hilkiah,
who
was
over
the
household,
and
Shebnah
the
scribe,
and
Joah
the
son
of
Asaph
the

19
And
Rabshakeh
said
unto
them,
Say
ye
now
to
Hezekiah,
Thus
saith
the
great
king,
the
king
of
Assyria,
What
confidence
is

wherein
thou
trustest?
20
Thou
sayest
(but
they

There

Now
on
whom
dost

21
Now,
behold,
thou
trustest
upon
the
staff
of
this
bruised
reed,
even
upon
Egypt;
whereon
if
a
man
lean,
it
will
go
into
his
hand,
and
pierce

so
is
Pharaoh
king
of
Egypt
unto
all
that
trust
on
him.
22
But
if
ye
say
unto
me,
We
trust
in
Jehovah
our
God;
is
not
that
he,
whose
high
places
and
whose
altars
Hezekiah
hath
taken
away,
and
hath
said
to
Judah
and
to
Jerusalem,
Ye
shall
worship
before
this
altar
in
Jerusalem?
23
Now
therefore,
I
pray
thee,
give
pledges
to
my
master
the
king
of
Assyria,
and
I
will
give
thee
two
thousand
horses,
if
thou
be
able
on
thy
part
to
set
riders
upon
them.
24
How
then
canst
thou
turn
away
the
face
of
one
captain
of
the
least
of
my
masters
servants,
and
put
thy
trust
on
Egypt
for
chariots
and
for
horsemen?
25
Am
I
now
come
up
without
Jehovah
against
this
place
to
destroy
it?
Jehovah
said
unto
me,
Go
up
against
this
land,
and
destroy
it.
26
Then
said
Eliakim
the
son
of
Hilkiah,
and
Shebnah,
and
Joah,
unto
Rabshakeh,
Speak,
I
pray
thee,
to
thy
servants
in
the
Syrian
language;
for
we
understand
it:
and
speak
not
with
us
in
the
Jews
language,
in
the
ears
of
the
people
that
are
on
the
wall.
27
But
Rabshakeh
said
unto
them,
Hath
my
master
sent
me
to
thy
master,
and
to
thee,
to
speak
these
words?
hath
he
not
sent
me
to
the
men
that
sit
on
the
wall,
to
eat
their
own
dung,
and
to
drink
their
own
water
with
you?
28
Then
Rabshakeh
stood,
and
cried
with
a
loud
voice
in
the
Jews
language,
and
spake,
saying,
Hear
ye
the
word
of
the
great
king,
the
king
of
Assyria.
29
Thus
saith
the
king,
Let
not
Hezekiah
deceive
you;
for
he

to

you
out

the

31
Hearken
not
to
Hezekiah:
for
thus
saith
the
king
of
Assyria,
Make
your
peace
with
me,
and
come
out
to
me;
and
eat
ye
every
one
of
his

and
every
one
of
his

and
drink

every

the

32
Until
I
come
and
take

and

saying,
Jehovah
will
deliver

33
Hath

the
LORD
commanded,
and
would
not
hear
it,
nor
do
it.
13
Now
in
the
fourteenth
year
of
king
Hezekiah
did
Sennacherib
king
of
Assyria
come
up
against
all
the
fenced
cities
of
Judah,
and
took
them.
14
And
Hezekiah
king
of
Judah
sent
to
the
king
of
Assyria
to
Lachish,
saying,
I
have
offended;
return
from
me:
that
which
thou
puttest
on
me
will
I
bear.
And
the
king
of
Assyria
appointed
unto
Hezekiah
king
of
Judah
three
hundred
talents
of
silver
and
thirty
talents
of
gold.
15
And
Hezekiah
gave
{cf15i
him}
all
the
silver
that
was
found
in
the
house
of
the
LORD,
and
in
the
treasures
of
the
kings
house.
16
At
that
time
did
Hezekiah
cut
off
{cf15i
the
gold
from}
the
doors
of
the
temple
of
the
LORD,
and
{cf15i
from}
the
pillars
which
Hezekiah
king
of
Judah
had
overlaid,
and
gave
it
to
the
king
of
Assyria.
17
And
the
king
of
Assyria
sent
Tartan
and
Rabsaris
and
Rabshakeh
from
Lachish
to
king
Hezekiah
with
a
great
army
unto
Jerusalem.
And
they
went
up
and
came
to
Jerusalem.
And
when
they
were
come
up,
they
came
and
stood
by
the
conduit
of
the
upper
pool,
which
is
in
the
highway
of
the
fullers
field.
18
And
when
they
had
called
to
the
king,
there
came
out
to
them
Eliakim
the
son
of
Hilkiah,
which
was
over
the
household,
and
Shebnah
the
scribe,
and
Joah
the
son
of
Asaph
the
recorder.
19
And
Rabshakeh
said
unto
them,
Say
ye
now
to
Hezekiah,
Thus
saith
the
great
king,
the
king
of
Assyria,
What
confidence
is
this
wherein
thou
trustest?
20
Thou
sayest,
but
they
are
but
vain
words,
{cf15i
There
is}
counsel
and
strength
for
the
war.
Now
on
whom
dost
thou
trust,
that
thou
hast
rebelled
against
me?
21
Now,
behold,
thou
trustest
upon
the
staff
of
this
bruised
reed,
even
upon
Egypt;
whereon
if
a
man
lean,
it
will
go
into
his
hand,
and
pierce
it:
so
is
Pharaoh
king
of
Egypt
unto
all
that
trust
on
him.
22
But
if
ye
say
unto
me,
We
trust
in
the
LORD
our
God:
is
not
that
he,
whose
high
places
and
whose
altars
Hezekiah
hath
taken
away,
and
hath
said
to
Judah
and
to
Jerusalem,
Ye
shall
worship
before
this
altar
in
Jerusalem?
23
Now
therefore,
I
pray
thee,
give
pledges
to
my
master
the
king
of
Assyria,
and
I
will
give
thee
two
thousand
horses,
if
thou
be
able
on
thy
part
to
set
riders
upon
them.
24
How
then
canst
thou
turn
away
the
face
of
one
captain
of
the
least
of
my
masters
servants,
and
put
thy
trust
on
Egypt
for
chariots
and
for
horsemen?
25
Am
I
now
come
up
without
the
LORD
against
this
place
to
destroy
it?
The
LORD
said
unto
me,
Go
up
against
this
land,
and
destroy
it.
26
Then
said
Eliakim
the
son
of
Hilkiah,
and
Shebnah,
and
Joah,
unto
Rabshakeh,
Speak,
I
pray
thee,
to
thy
servants
in
the
Syrian
language;
for
we
understand
it:
and
speak
not
with
us
in
the
Jews
language,
in
the
ears
of
the
people
that
are
on
the
wall.
27
But
Rabshakeh
said
unto
them,
Hath
my
master
sent
me
to
thy
master,
and
to
thee,
to
speak
these
words?
{cf15i
hath
he
not
sent
me}
to
the
men
which
sit
on
the
wall,
to
eat
their
own
dung,
and
to
drink
their
own
water
with
you?
28
Then
Rabshakeh
stood,
and
cried
with
a
loud
voice
in
the
Jews
language,
and
spake,
saying,
Hear
ye
the
word
of
the
great
king,
the
king
of
Assyria.
29
Thus
saith
the
king,
Let
not
Hezekiah
deceive
you;
for
he
shall
not
be
able
to
deliver
you
out
of
his
hand:
30
neither
let
Hezekiah
make
you
trust
in
the
LORD,
saying,
The
LORD
will
surely
deliver
us,
and
this
city
shall
not
be
given
into
the
hand
of
the
king
of
Assyria.
31
Hearken
not
to
Hezekiah:
for
thus
saith
the
king
of
Assyria,
Make
your
peace
with
me,
and
come
out
to
me;
and
eat
ye
every
one
of
his
vine,
and
every
one
of
his
fig
tree,
and
drink
ye
every
one
the
waters
of
his
own
cistern;
32
Until
I
come
and
take
you
away
to
a
land
like
your
own
land,
a
land
of
corn
and
wine,
a
land
of
bread
and
vineyards,
a
land
of
oil
olive
and
of
honey,
that
ye
may
live,
and
not
die:
and
hearken
not
unto
Hezekiah,
when
he
persuadeth
you,
saying,
The
LORD
will
deliver
us.
33
Hath
any
of
the
gods
of
the
nations
ever
delivered
his
land
out
of
the
hand
of
the
king
of
Assyria?
34
Where
are
the
gods
of
Hamath,
and
of
Arpad?
where
are
the
gods
of
Sepharvaim,
of
Hena,
and
Ivvah?
have
they
delivered
Samaria
out
of
my
hand?
35
Who
are
they
among
all
the
gods
of
the
countries,
that
have
delivered
their
country
out
of
my
hand,
that
the
LORD
should
deliver
Jerusalem
out
of
my
hand?
36
But
the
people
held
their
peace,
and
answered
him
not
a
word:
for
the
kings
commandment
was,
saying,
Answer
him
not.
37
Then
came
Eliakim
the
son
of
Hilkiah,
which
was
over
the
household,
and
Shebna
the

and
Joah
the

to
Hezekiah,
with

rent,
and
told
him
the
words
of
Rabshakeh.

after
the

I
fought

what
doth
it

me?
If

in

Samaria
was

11
The

deported
the

He
settled
them
in
Halah,
along
the
Habor

and
in
the

the

12
This
happened
because
they

broke

them.
They
did
not

King
Hezekiah
of

sent
this
message
to
the
king
of
Assyria,
who
was
at
Lachish,
"I
have
violated
our
treaty.
If
you
leave,
I
will
do
whatever
you

So
the
king
of
Assyria
demanded
that
King
Hezekiah
of
Judah
pay
three
hundred
talents
of
silver
and
thirty
talents
of
gold.
15
Hezekiah
gave
him
all
the
silver
in
the
LORD's
temple
and
in
the
treasuries
of
the
royal
palace.
16
At
that
time
King
Hezekiah
of
Judah
stripped
the
metal
overlays
from
the
doors
of
the
LORD's
temple
and
from
the
posts
which
he
had
plated
and
gave
them
to
the
king
of
Assyria.
17
The
king
of
Assyria
sent
his
commanding
general,
the
chief
eunuch,
and
the
chief
adviser
from
Lachish
to
King
Hezekiah
in
Jerusalem,
along
with
a
large
army.
They
went
up
and
arrived
at
Jerusalem.
They
went
and
stood
at
the
conduit
of
the
upper
pool
which
is
located
on
the
road
to
the
field
where
they
wash

dry

accompanied
by

and
Joah
son
of
Asaph,
the

went
out
to
meet
them.
19
The
chief
adviser
said
to
them,
"Tell
Hezekiah:
'This
is
what
the
great
king,
the
king
of
Assyria,
says:
"What
is
your
source
of
confidence?
20
Your
claim
to
have
a
strategy
and
military
strength
is
just
empty
talk.
In
whom
are
you
trusting
that
you
would
dare
to
rebel
against
me?
21
Now
look,
you
must
be
trusting
in
Egypt,
that
splintered
reed
staff.
If
a
man
leans
for
support
on
it,
it
punctures
his
hand
and
wounds
him.
That
is
what
Pharaoh
king
of
Egypt
does
to
all
who
trust
in
him.
22
Perhaps
you
will
tell
me,
'We
are
trusting
in
the
LORD
our
God.'
But
Hezekiah
is
the
one
who
eliminated
his
high
places
and
altars
and
then
told
the
people
of
Judah
and
Jerusalem,
'You
must
worship
at
this
altar
in
Jerusalem.'
23
Now
make
a
deal
with
my
master
the
king
of
Assyria,
and
I
will
give
you
two
thousand
horses,
provided
you
can
find
enough
riders
for
them.
24
Certainly
you
will
not
refuse
one
of
my
master's
minor
officials
and
trust
in
Egypt
for
chariots
and
horsemen.
25
Furthermore
it
was
by
the
command
of
the
LORD
that
I
marched
up
against
this
place
to
destroy
it.
The
LORD
told
me,
'March
up
against
this
land
and
destroy
it.'"'"
26
Eliakim
son
of
Hilkiah,
Shebna,
and
Joah
said
to
the
chief
adviser,
"Speak
to
your
servants
in
Aramaic,
for
we
understand
it.
Don't
speak
with
us
in
the
Judahite
dialect
in
the
hearing
of
the
people
who
are
on
the
wall."
27
But
the
chief
adviser
said
to
them,
"My
master
did
not
send
me
to
speak
these
words
only
to
your
master
and
to
you.
His
message
is
also
for
the
men
who
sit
on
the
wall,
for
they
will
eat
their
own
excrement
and
drink
their
own
urine
along
with
you."
28
The
chief
adviser
then
stood
there
and
called
out
loudly
in
the
Judahite
dialect,
"Listen
to
the
message
of
the
great
king,
the
king
of
Assyria.
29
This
is
what
the
king
says:
'Don't
let
Hezekiah
mislead
you,
for
he
is
not
able
to
rescue
you
from
my
hand!
30
Don't
let
Hezekiah
talk
you
into
trusting
in
the
LORD
when
he
says,
"The
LORD
will
certainly
rescue
us;
this
city
will
not
be
handed
over
to
the
king
of
Assyria."
31
Don't
listen
to
Hezekiah!'
For
this
is
what
the
king
of
Assyria
says,
'Send
me
a
token
of
your
submission
and
surrender
to
me.
Then
each
of
you
may
eat
from
his
own
vine
and
fig
tree
and
drink
water
from
his
own
cistern,
32
until
I
come
and
take
you
to
a
land
just
like
your
own
a
land
of
grain
and
new
wine,
a
land
of
bread
and
vineyards,
a
land
of
olive
trees
and
honey.
Then
you
will
live
and
not
die.
Don't
listen
to
Hezekiah,
for
he
is
misleading
you
when
he
says,
"The
LORD
will
rescue
us."
33
Have
any
of
the
gods
of
the
nations
actually
rescued
his
land
from
the
power
of
the
king
of
Assyria?
34
Where
are
the
gods
of
Hamath
and
Arpad?
Where
are
the
gods
of
Sepharvaim,
Hena,
and
Ivvah?
Indeed,
did
any
gods
rescue
Samaria
from
my
power?
35
Who
among
all
the
gods
of
the
lands
has
rescued
their
lands
from
my
power?
So
how
can
the
LORD
rescue
Jerusalem
from
my
power?'"
36
The
people
were
silent
and
did
not
respond,
for
the
king
had
ordered,
"Don't
respond
to
him."
37
Eliakim
son
of
Hilkiah,
the
palace
supervisor,

the

torn

him
what

had
said.

it.
He
defeated
all
the
Philistine
citiesfrom
the
smallest
town
to
the
largest
city.
9
King
Shalmaneser
of
Assyria
went
to
fight
against
Samaria.
His
army
surrounded
the
city.
This
happened
during
the
fourth
year
that
Hezekiah
was
king
of
Judah.
(This
was
also
the
seventh
year
that
Hoshea
son
of
Elah
was
king
of
Israel.)
10
At
the
end
of
the
third
year
Shalmaneser
captured
Samaria.
He
took
Samaria
during
the
sixth
year
that
Hezekiah
was
king
of
Judah.
(This
was
also
the
ninth
year
that
Hoshea
was
king
of
Israel.)
11
The
king
of
Assyria
took
the
Israelites
as
prisoners
to
Assyria.
He
made
them
live
in
Halah,
on
the
Habor
(the
river
of
Gozan),
and
in
the
cities
of
the
Medes.
12
This
happened
because
the
Israelites
did
not
obey
the
Lord
their
God.
They
broke
his
agreement
and
did
not
obey
everything
that
Moses,
the
Lord's
servant,
had
commanded.
The
Israelites
would
not
listen
to
the
Lord's
agreement
or
do
what
it
taught
them
to
do.
13
During
Hezekiah's
14
year
as
king,
King
Sennacherib
of
Assyria
went
to
fight
against
all
the
strong
cities
of
Judah.
Sennacherib
defeated
them
all.
14
Then
King
Hezekiah
of
Judah
sent
a
message
to
the
king
of
Assyria
at
Lachish.
Hezekiah
said,
"I
have
done
wrong.
Leave
me
alone,
and
I
will
pay
whatever
you
want."
Then
the
king
of
Assyria
told
King
Hezekiah
of
Judah
to
pay
over
11
tons
of
silver
and
over
1
ton
of
gold.
15
Hezekiah
gave
all
the
silver
that
was
in
the
Lord's
Temple
and
in
the
king's
treasuries.
16
That
is
when
Hezekiah
cut
off
the
gold
that
he
had
put
on
the
doors
and
doorposts
of
the
Lord's
Temple
and
gave
it
to
the
king
of
Assyria.
17
The
king
of
Assyria
sent
his
three
most
important
officers
with
a
large
army
to
King
Hezekiah
in
Jerusalem.
They
left
Lachish
and
went
to
Jerusalem.
They
stood
near
the
aqueduct
by
the
Upper
Pool,
on
the
street
that
leads
up
to
Laundryman's
Field.
18
These
men
called
for
the
king,
but
Eliakim
son
of
Hilkiah,
Shebna,
and
Joah
son
of
Asaph
went
out
to
meet
them.
Eliakim
was
the
palace
manager,
Joah
was
the
record
keeper,
and
Shebna
was
the
royal
secretary.
19
The
commander
said
to
them,
"Tell
Hezekiah
this
is
what
the
great
king,
the
king
of
Assyria
says:
'What
are
you
trusting
in
to
help
you?
20
If
you
say,
"I
trust
in
power
and
great
battle
plans,"
then
that
is
useless.
Now
I
ask
you,
who
do
you
trust
so
much
that
you
are
willing
to
rebel
against
me?
21
Are
you
depending
on
Egypt
to
help
you?
Egypt
is
like
a
broken
walking
stick.
If
you
lean
on
it
for
support,
it
will
only
hurt
you
and
make
a
hole
in
your
hand.
Pharaoh,
the
king
of
Egypt,
cannot
be
trusted
by
anyone
who
depends
on
him
for
help.
22
Maybe
you
will
say,
"We
trust
the
Lord
our
God
to
help
us."
But
I
know
that
Hezekiah
destroyed
the
altars
and
high
places
where
people
worshiped
the
Lord.
Hezekiah
told
the
people
of
Judah
and
Jerusalem,
"You
must
worship
only
at
this
one
altar
here
in
Jerusalem."
23
'If
you
still
want
to
fight
my
master,
the
king
of
Assyria,
I
will
make
this
agreement
with
you.
I
promise
that
I
will
give
you
2000
horses
if
you
can
find
enough
men
to
ride
them
into
battle.
24
But
even
then
you
couldn't
beat
one
of
my
master's
lowest
ranking
officers.
So
why
do
you
still
depend
on
Egypt's
chariots
and
horse
soldiers?
25
'Now,
do
you
think
I
came
to
this
country
to
destroy
it
without
the
Lord's
help?
No,
the
Lord
said
to
me,
"Go
up
against
this
country
and
destroy
it!"'"
26
Then
Eliakim
son
of
Hilkiah,
Shebna,
and
Joah
said
to
the
commander,
"Please
speak
to
us
in
Aramaic.
We
understand
that
language.
Don't
speak
to
us
in
the
language
of
Judah
because
the
people
on
the
wall
will
understand
you."
27
But
the
commander
said
to
them,
"My
master
did
not
send
me
to
speak
only
to
you
and
your
master.
I
was
also
sent
to
speak
to
those
people
sitting
on
the
wall.
They,
too,
will
not
have
enough
food
or
water;
they,
too,
will
eat
their
own
waste
and
drink
their
own
urine
like
you!
"
28
Then
the
commander
shouted
loudly
in
Hebrew,
"Hear
this
message
from
the
great
king,
the
king
of
Assyria!
29
The
king
says,
'Don't
let
Hezekiah
fool
you,
because
he
cannot
save
you
from
my
power.
30
Don't
let
Hezekiah
make
you
trust
in
the
Lord.'
Hezekiah
says,
'The
Lord
will
save
us.
The
king
of
Assyria
will
not
defeat
this
city.'
31
But
don't
listen
to
Hezekiah.
The
king
of
Assyria
says
this:
'Do
this
favor
for
me;
come
out
to
me
and
then
everyone
will
be
free
to
have
grapes
from
their
own
vines,
figs
from
their
own
trees,
and
water
from
their
own
well.
32
You
can
do
this
until
I
come
and
take
you
away
to
a
land
like
your
own.
In
that
new
land,
you
will
have
good
grain
and
new
wine,
bread,
vineyards,
olive
oil,
and
honey.
Then
you
can
live
and
not
die.
But
don't
listen
to
Hezekiah.
He
is
trying
to
change
your
mind.
He
is
saying,
"The
Lord
will
save
us."
33
Did
any
of
the
gods
of
the
other
nations
save
their
land
from
the
king
of
Assyria?
34
Where
are
the
gods
of
Hamath
and
Arpad?
Where
are
the
gods
of
Sepharvaim,
Hena,
and
Ivvah?
Did
they
save
Samaria
from
me?
35
Did
any
of
the
gods
in
the
other
countries
save
their
land
from
me?
No!
So
do
you
think
the
Lord
will
save
Jerusalem
from
me?'"
36
But
the
people
were
silent.
They
did
not
say
a
word
to
the
commander
because
King
Hezekiah
had
commanded
them,
"Don't
say
anything
to
him."
37
Then
the
palace
manager
(Eliakim
son
of
Hilkiah),
the
royal
secretary
(Shebna),
and
the
record
keeper
(Joah
son
of
Asaph)
went
to
Hezekiah.
Their
clothes
were
torn
to
show
they
were
upset.
They
told
Hezekiah
everything
the
Assyrian
commander
had
said.
1 Corinthians 15:32
32
I
fought
wild
animals
in
Ephesus.
If
I
did
that
only
for
human
reasons,
then
I
have
gained
nothing.
If
we
are
not
raised
from
death,
"Let
us
eat
and
drink,
because
tomorrow
we
die."
