1
Now
there
was
long
war
between
the
house
of
Saul
and
the
house
of
David:
but
David
waxed
stronger
and
stronger,
and
the
house
of
Saul
waxed
weaker
and
weaker.
2
And
unto
David
were
sons
born
in
Hebron:
and
his
firstborn
was
Amnon,
of
Ahinoam
the
Jezreelitess;
3
And
his
second,
Chileab,
of
Abigail
the
wife
of
Nabal
the
Carmelite;
and
the
third,
Absalom
the
son
of
Maacah
the
daughter
of
Talmai
king
of
Geshur;
4
And
the
fourth,
Adonijah
the
son
of
Haggith;
and
the
fifth,
Shephatiah
the
son
of
Abital;
5
And
the
sixth,
Ithream,
by
Eglah
David's
wife.
These
were
born
to
David
in
Hebron.
6
And
it
came
to
pass,
while
there
was
war
between
the
house
of
Saul
and
the
house
of
David,
that
Abner
made
himself
strong
for
the
house
of
Saul.
7
And
Saul
had
a
concubine,
whose
name
was
Rizpah,
the
daughter
of
Aiah:
and
Ishbosheth
said
to
Abner,
Wherefore
hast
thou
gone
in
unto
my
father's
concubine?
8
Then
was
Abner
very
wroth
for
the
words
of
Ishbosheth,
and
said,
Am
I
a
dog's
head,
which
against
Judah
do
shew
kindness
this
day
unto
the
house
of
Saul
thy
father,
to
his
brethren,
and
to
his
friends,
and
have
not
delivered
thee
into
the
hand
of
David,
that
thou
chargest
me
to
day
with
a
fault
concerning
this
woman?
9
So
do
God
to
Abner,
and
more
also,
except,
as
the
LORD
hath
sworn
to
David,
even
so
I
do
to
him;
10
To
translate
the
kingdom
from
the
house
of
Saul,
and
to
set
up
the
throne
of
David
over
Israel
and
over
Judah,
from
Dan
even
to
Beersheba.
11
And
he
could
not
answer
Abner
a
word
again,
because
he
feared
him.
12
And
Abner
sent
messengers
to
David
on
his
behalf,
saying,
Whose
is
the
land?
saying
also,
Make
thy
league
with
me,
and,
behold,
my
hand
shall
be
with
thee,
to
bring
about
all
Israel
unto
thee.
13
And
he
said,
Well;
I
will
make
a
league
with
thee:
but
one
thing
I
require
of
thee,
that
is,
Thou
shalt
not
see
my
face,
except
thou
first
bring
Michal
Saul's
daughter,
when
thou
comest
to
see
my
face.
14
And
David
sent
messengers
to
Ishbosheth
Saul's
son,
saying,
Deliver
me
my
wife
Michal,
which
I
espoused
to
me
for
an
hundred
foreskins
of
the
Philistines.
15
And
Ishbosheth
sent,
and
took
her
from
her
husband,
even
from
Phaltiel
the
son
of
Laish.
16
And
her
husband
went
with
her
along
weeping
behind
her
to
Bahurim.
Then
said
Abner
unto
him,
Go,
return.
And
he
returned.
17
And
Abner
had
communication
with
the
elders
of
Israel,
saying,
Ye
sought
for
David
in
times
past
to
be
king
over
you:
18
Now
then
do
it:
for
the
LORD
hath
spoken
of
David,
saying,
By
the
hand
of
my
servant
David
I
will
save
my
people
Israel
out
of
the
hand
of
the
Philistines,
and
out
of
the
hand
of
all
their
enemies.
19
And
Abner
also
spake
in
the
ears
of
Benjamin:
and
Abner
went
also
to
speak
in
the
ears
of
David
in
Hebron
all
that
seemed
good
to
Israel,
and
that
seemed
good
to
the
whole
house
of
Benjamin.
20
So
Abner
came
to
David
to
Hebron,
and
twenty
men
with
him.
And
David
made
Abner
and
the
men
that
were
with
him
a
feast.
21
And
Abner
said
unto
David,
I
will
arise
and
go,
and
will
gather
all
Israel
unto
my
lord
the
king,
that
they
may
make
a
league
with
thee,
and
that
thou
mayest
reign
over
all
that
thine
heart
desireth.
And
David
sent
Abner
away;
and
he
went
in
peace.
22
And,
behold,
the
servants
of
David
and
Joab
came
from
pursuing
a
troop,
and
brought
in
a
great
spoil
with
them:
but
Abner
was
not
with
David
in
Hebron;
for
he
had
sent
him
away,
and
he
was
gone
in
peace.
23
When
Joab
and
all
the
host
that
was
with
him
were
come,
they
told
Joab,
saying,
Abner
the
son
of
Ner
came
to
the
king,
and
he
hath
sent
him
away,
and
he
is
gone
in
peace.
24
Then
Joab
came
to
the
king,
and
said,
What
hast
thou
done?
behold,
Abner
came
unto
thee;
why
is
it
that
thou
hast
sent
him
away,
and
he
is
quite
gone?
25
Thou
knowest
Abner
the
son
of
Ner,
that
he
came
to
deceive
thee,
and
to
know
thy
going
out
and
thy
coming
in,
and
to
know
all
that
thou
doest.
26
And
when
Joab
was
come
out
from
David,
he
sent
messengers
after
Abner,
which
brought
him
again
from
the
well
of
Sirah:
but
David
knew
it
not.
27
And
when
Abner
was
returned
to
Hebron,
Joab
took
him
aside
in
the
gate
to
speak
with
him
quietly,
and
smote
him
there
under
the
fifth
rib,
that
he
died,
for
the
blood
of
Asahel
his
brother.
28
And
afterward
when
David
heard
it,
he
said,
I
and
my
kingdom
are
guiltless
before
the
LORD
for
ever
from
the
blood
of
Abner
the
son
of
Ner:
29
Let
it
rest
on
the
head
of
Joab,
and
on
all
his
father's
house;
and
let
there
not
fail
from
the
house
of
Joab
one
that
hath
an
issue,
or
that
is
a
leper,
or
that
leaneth
on
a
staff,
or
that
falleth
on
the
sword,
or
that
lacketh
bread.
30
So
Joab
and
Abishai
his
brother
slew
Abner,
because
he
had
slain
their
brother
Asahel
at
Gibeon
in
the
battle.
31
And
David
said
to
Joab,
and
to
all
the
people
that
were
with
him,
Rend
your
clothes,
and
gird
you
with
sackcloth,
and
mourn
before
Abner.
And
king
David
himself
followed
the
bier.
32
And
they
buried
Abner
in
Hebron:
and
the
king
lifted
up
his
voice,
and
wept
at
the
grave
of
Abner;
and
all
the
people
wept.
33
And
the
king
lamented
over
Abner,
and
said,
Died
Abner
as
a
fool
dieth?
34
Thy
hands
were
not
bound,
nor
thy
feet
put
into
fetters:
as
a
man
falleth
before
wicked
men,
so
fellest
thou.
And
all
the
people
wept
again
over
him.
35
And
when
all
the
people
came
to
cause
David
to
eat
meat
while
it
was
yet
day,
David
sware,
saying,
So
do
God
to
me,
and
more
also,
if
I
taste
bread,
or
ought
else,
till
the
sun
be
down.
36
And
all
the
people
took
notice
of
it,
and
it
pleased
them:
as
whatsoever
the
king
did
pleased
all
the
people.
37
For
all
the
people
and
all
Israel
understood
that
day
that
it
was
not
of
the
king
to
slay
Abner
the
son
of
Ner.
38
And
the
king
said
unto
his
servants,
Know
ye
not
that
there
is
a
prince
and
a
great
man
fallen
this
day
in
Israel?
39
And
I
am
this
day
weak,
though
anointed
king;
and
these
men
the
sons
of
Zeruiah
be
too
hard
for
me:
the
LORD
shall
reward
the
doer
of
evil
according
to
his
wickedness.

the
son
of
Haggith:

Now
there
was
H1961
long

war
H4421
between
H996
the
house
H1004
of
Saul
H7586
and
the
house
H1004
of
David:
H1732
but
David
H1732
waxed
stronger
and
stronger

,
and
the
house
H1004
of
Saul
H7586
waxed
H1980
weaker
and

And
unto
David
H1732
were
sons
H1121
born
H3205
in
Hebron:
H2275
and
his
firstborn
H1060
was
H1961
Amnon,
H550
of
Ahinoam
H293
the
Jezreelitess;
H3159
3
And
his
second,
H4932
Chileab,
H3609
of
Abigail
H26
the

H802
of
Nabal
H5037

and

H4601
the

And
the
fourth,
H7243
Adonijah
H138
the
son
H1121
of
Haggith;
H2294
and
the
fifth,
H2549
Shephatiah
H8203
the
son
H1121
of
Abital;
H37
5
And
the
sixth,
H8345
Ithream,
H3507
by
Eglah
H5698
David's
H1732
wife.
H802
These
H428
were
born
H3205
to
David
H1732
in
Hebron.
H2275
6
And
it
came
to
pass,
H1961
while
there
was
H1961
war
H4421
between
H996
the
house
H1004
of
Saul
H7586
and
the
house
H1004
of
David,
H1732
that
Abner
H74
made
himself
strong
H2388
for
the
house
H1004
of
Saul.
H7586
7
And
Saul
H7586
had
a
concubine,
H6370
whose
name
H8034
was
Rizpah,
H7532
the
daughter
H1323
of
Aiah:
H345
and
Ish-bosheth
said
H559
to
H413
Abner,
H74
Wherefore
H4069
hast
thou
gone
H935
in
unto
H413
my
father's
H1
concubine
H6370
?
8
Then
was
Abner
H74
very
H3966
wroth
H2734
for
H5921
the
words
H1697
of
Ish-
H378
bosheth
,
and
said,
H559
Am
I
H595
a
dog's
H3611
head,
H7218
which
H834
against
Judah
H3063
do
show
H6213
kindness
H2617
this
day
H3117
unto
H5973
the
house
H1004
of
Saul
H7586
thy
father,
H1
to
H413
his
brethren,
H251
and
to
H413
his
friends,
H4828
and
have
not
H3808
delivered
H4672
thee
into
the
hand
H3027
of
David,
H1732
that
thou
chargest
H6485
H5921
me
today
H3117
with
a
fault
H5771
concerning
this
woman
H802
?
9
So
H3541
do
H6213
God
H430
to
Abner,
H74
and
more
H3254
also,
H3541
except,
H3588
as
H834
the
LORD
H3068
hath
sworn
H7650
to
David,
H1732
even
H3588
so
H3651
I
do
H6213
to
him;
10
To
translate
H5674
the
kingdom
H4467
from
the
house
H4480
H1004
of
Saul,
H7586
and
to
set
up
H6965
the
H853
throne
H3678
of
David
H1732
over
H5921
Israel
H3478
and
over
H5921
Judah,
H3063
from
Dan
H4480
H1835
even
to
H5704
Beer-
H884
sheba.
11
And
he
could
H3201
not
H3808
answer
H7725
H853
Abner
H74
a
word
H1697
again,
H5750
because
he
feared
H4480
H3372
him.
12
And
Abner
H74
sent
H7971
messengers
H4397
to
H413
David
H1732
on
his
behalf,
H8478
saying,
H559
Whose
H4310
is
the
land
H776
?
saying
H559
also
,
Make
H3772
thy
league
H1285
with
H854
me,
and,
behold,
H2009
my
hand
H3027
shall
be
with
H5973
thee
,
to
bring
about
H5437
H853
all
H3605
Israel
H3478
unto
H413
thee.
13
And
he
said,
H559
Well;
H2896
I
H589
will
make
H3772
a
league
H1285
with
H854
thee:
but
H389
one
H259
thing
H1697
I
H595
require
H7592
of
H4480
H854
thee
,
that
is,
H559
Thou
shalt
not
H3808
see
H7200
H853
my
face,
H6440
except
H3588
H518
thou
first
H6440
bring
H935
H853
Michal
H4324
Saul's
H7586
daughter,
H1323
when
thou
comest
H935
to
see
H7200
H853
my
face.
H6440
14
And
David
H1732
sent
H7971
messengers
H4397
to
H413
Ish-
H378
bosheth
Saul's
H7586
son,
H1121
saying,
H559
Deliver
H5414
me
H853
my
wife
H802
H853
Michal,
H4324
which
H834
I
espoused
H781
to
me
for
a
hundred
H3967
foreskins
H6190
of
the
Philistines.
H6430
15
And
Ish-
H378
bosheth
sent,
H7971
and
took
H3947
her
from
H4480
H5973
her
husband,
H376
even
from
H4480
H5973
Phaltiel
H6409
the
son
H1121
of
Laish.
H3919
16
And
her
husband
H376
went
H1980
with
H854
her
along
H1980
weeping
H1058
behind
H310
her
to
H5704
Bahurim.
H980
Then
said
H559
Abner
H74
unto
H413
him,
Go,
H1980
return.
H7725
And
he
returned.
H7725
17
And
Abner
H74
had
H1961
communication
H1697
with
H5973
the
elders
H2205
of
Israel,
H3478
saying,
H559
Ye
sought
H1961
H1245
for
H853
David
H1732
in
times
H1571
H8543
past
H1571
H8032
to
be
king
H4428
over
H5921
you:
18
Now
H6258
then
do
H6213
it
:
for
H3588
the
LORD
H3068
hath
spoken
H559
of
H413
David,
H1732
saying,
H559
By
the
hand
H3027
of
my
servant
H5650
David
H1732
I
will
save
H3467
H853
my
people
H5971
Israel
H3478
out
of
the
hand
H4480
H3027
of
the
Philistines,
H6430
and
out
of
the
hand
H4480
H3027
of
all
H3605
their
enemies.
H341
19
And
Abner
H74
also
H1571
spoke
H1696
in
the
ears
H241
of
Benjamin:
H1144
and
Abner
H74
went
H1980
also
H1571
to
speak
H1696
in
the
ears
H241
of
David
H1732
in
Hebron
H2275
H853
all
H3605
that
H834
seemed
good
H2896
H5869
to
Israel,
H3478
and
that
seemed
good
H5869
to
the
whole
H3605
house
H1004
of
Benjamin.
H1144
20
So
Abner
H74
came
H935
to
H413
David
H1732
to
Hebron,
H2275
and
twenty
H6242
men
H376
with
H854
him
.
And
David
H1732
made
H6213
Abner
H74
and
the
men
H376
that
H834
were
with
H854
him
a
feast.
H4960
21
And
Abner
H74
said
H559
unto
H413
David,
H1732
I
will
arise
H6965
and
go,
H1980
and
will
gather
H6908
H853
all
H3605
Israel
H3478
unto
H413
my
lord
H113
the
king,
H4428
that
they
may
make
H3772
a
league
H1285
with
H854
thee
,
and
that
thou
mayest
reign
H4427
over
all
H3605
that
H834
thine
heart
H5315
desireth.
H183
And
David
H1732
sent
H7971
H853
Abner
H74
away
;
and
he
went
H1980
in
peace.
H7965
22
And,
behold,
H2009
the
servants
H5650
of
David
H1732
and
Joab
H3097
came
H935
from
pursuing
a
troop
H4480
H1416
,
and
brought
H935
in
a
great
H7227
spoil
H7998
with
H5973
them
:
but
Abner
H74
was
not
H369
with
H5973
David
H1732
in
Hebron;
H2275
for
H3588
he
had
sent
him
away,
H7971
and
he
was
gone
H1980
in
peace.
H7965
23
When
Joab
H3097
and
all
H3605
the
host
H6635
that
H834
was
with
H854
him
were
come,
H935
they
told
H5046
Joab,
H3097
saying,
H559
Abner
H74
the
son
H1121
of
Ner
H5369
came
H935
to
H413
the
king,
H4428
and
he
hath
sent
him
away,
H7971
and
he
is
gone
H1980
in
peace.
H7965
24
Then
Joab
H3097
came
H935
to
H413
the
king,
H4428
and
said,
H559
What
H4100
hast
thou
done
H6213
?
behold,
H2009
Abner
H74
came
H935
unto
H413
thee;
why
H4100
is
it
that
thou
hast
sent
him
away,
H7971
and
he
is
quite
gone
H1980
?
25
Thou
knowest
H3045
H853
Abner
H74
the
son
H1121
of
Ner,
H5369
that
H3588
he
came
H935
to
deceive
H6601
thee
,
and
to
know
H3045
H853
thy
going
out
H4161
and
thy
coming
in,
H4126
and
to
know
H3045
H853
all
H3605
that
H834
thou
H859
doest.
H6213
26
And
when
Joab
H3097
was
come
out
H3318
from
H4480
H5973
David,
H1732
he
sent
H7971
messengers
H4397
after
H310
Abner,
H74
which
brought
him
again
H7725
H853
from
the
well
H4480
H953
of
Sirah:
H5626
but
David
H1732
knew
H3045
it
not.
H3808
27
And
when
Abner
H74
was
returned
H7725
to
Hebron,
H2275
Joab
H3097
took
him
aside
H5186
in
H413
H8432
the
gate
H8179
to
speak
H1696
with
H854
him
quietly,
H7987
and
smote
H5221
him
there
H8033
under
the
fifth
H2570
rib
,
that
he
died,
H4191
for
the
blood
H1818
of
Asahel
H6214
his
brother.
H251
28
And
afterward
H4480
H310
H3651
when
David
H1732
heard
H8085
it
,
he
said,
H559
I
H595
and
my
kingdom
H4467
are
guiltless
H5355
before
H4480
H5973
the
LORD
H3068
forever
H5704
H5769
from
the
blood
H4480
H1818
of
Abner
H74
the
son
H1121
of
Ner:
H5369
29
Let
it
rest
H2342
on
H5921
the
head
H7218
of
Joab,
H3097
and
on
H413
all
H3605
his
father's
H1
house;
H1004
and
let
there
not
H408
fail
H3772
from
the
house
H4480
H1004
of
Joab
H3097
one
that
hath
an
issue,
H2100
or
that
is
a
leper,
H6879
or
that
leaneth
H2388
on
a
staff,
H6418
or
that
falleth
H5307
on
the
sword,
H2719
or
that
lacketh
H2638
bread.
H3899
30
So
Joab
H3097
and
Abishai
H52
his
brother
H251
slew
H2026
Abner,
H74
because
H5921
H834
he
had
slain
H4191
their
brother
H251
H853
Asahel
H6214
at
Gibeon
H1391
in
the
battle.
H4421
31
And
David
H1732
said
H559
to
H413
Joab,
H3097
and
to
H413
all
H3605
the
people
H5971
that
H834
were
with
H854
him,
Rend
H7167
your
clothes,
H899
and
gird
H2296
you
with
sackcloth,
H8242
and
mourn
H5594
before
H6440
Abner.
H74
And
king
H4428
David
H1732
himself
followed
H310
the
bier.
H4296
32
And
they
buried
H6912
H853
Abner
H74
in
Hebron:
H2275
and
the
king
H4428
lifted
up
H5375
H853
his
voice,
H6963
and
wept
H1058
at
H413
the
grave
H6913
of
Abner;
H74
and
all
H3605
the
people
H5971
wept.
H1058
33
And
the
king
H4428
lamented
H6969
over
H413
Abner,
H74
and
said,
H559
Died
H4191
Abner
H74
as
a
fool
H5036
dieth
H4194
?
34
Thy
hands
H3027
were
not
H3808
bound,
H631
nor
H3808
thy
feet
H7272
put
H5066
into
fetters:
H5178
as
a
man
H1121
falleth
H5307
before
H6440
wicked
H5766
men,
H1121
so
fellest
H5307
thou
.
And
all
H3605
the
people
H5971
wept
H1058
again
H3254
over
H5921
him.
35
And
when
all
H3605
the
people
H5971
came
H935
to
cause
H853
David
H1732
to
eat
H1262
meat
H3899
while
it
was
yet
H5750
day,
H3117
David
H1732
swore,
H7650
saying,
H559
So
H3541
do
H6213
God
H430
to
me
,
and
more
H3254
also,
H3541
if
H3588
H518
I
taste
H2938
bread,
H3899
or
H176
aught
else
H3605
H3972
,
till
H6440
the
sun
H8121
be
down.
H935
36
And
all
H3605
the
people
H5971
took
notice
H5234
of
it
,
and
it
pleased
them
H3190
H5869
:
as
whatsoever
H3605
H834
the
king
H4428
did
H6213
pleased
H2895
H5869
all
H3605
the
people.
H5971
37
For
all
H3605
the
people
H5971
and
all
H3605
Israel
H3478
understood
H3045
that
H1931
day
H3117
that
H3588
it
was
H1961
not
H3808
of
the
king
H4480
H4428
to
slay
H4191
Abner
H74
the
son
H1121
of
Ner.
H5369
38
And
the
king
H4428
said

11
And
he
is
not
able
any

Ish-Bosheth
sendeth,

Abner
goeth
also
to
speak
in
the

David
in

with

twenty
men,
and
David
maketh
for
Abner,
and
for
the
men
who
are
with
him,
a
banquet.
21
And
Abner
saith
unto
David,
`I
arise,
and
go,

and
David
sendeth
away
Abner,
and
he
goeth
in
peace.
22
And
lo,
the
servants
of
David,
and
Joab,
have
come
from
the
troop,
and
much
spoil
have
brought
with
them,
and
Abner
is
not
with
David
in
Hebron,
for
he
hath
sent
him
away,
and
he
goeth
in
peace;
23
and
Joab
and
all
the
host
that
is
with
him
have
come,
and
they
declare
to
Joab,
saying,
`Abner
son
of
Ner
hath
come
unto
the
king,
and
he
sendeth
him
away,
and
he
goeth
in
peace.`
24
And
Joab
cometh
unto
the
king,
and
saith,
`What
hast
thou
done?
lo,
Abner
hath
come
unto
thee!
why
is
this
--
thou
hast
sent
him
away,
and
he
is
really
gone?
25
Thou
hast
known
Abner
son
of
Ner,
that
to
deceive
thee
he
came,
and
to
know
thy
going
out
and
thy
coming
in,
and
to
know
all
that
thou
art
doing.`
26
And
Joab
goeth
out
from
David,
and
sendeth
messengers
after
Abner,
and
they
bring
him
back
from
the
well
of
Sirah,
and
David
knew
not.
27
And
Abner
turneth
back
to
Hebron,
and
Joab
turneth
him
aside
unto
the
midst
of
the
gate
to
speak
with
him
quietly,
and
smiteth
him
there
in
the
fifth
rib
--
and
he
dieth
--
for
the
blood
of
Asahel
his
brother.
28
And
David
heareth
afterwards
and
saith,
`Acquitted
am
I,
and
my
kingdom,
by
Jehovah,
unto
the
age,
from
the
blood
of
Abner
son
of
Ner;
29
it
doth
stay
on
the
head
of
Joab,
and
on
all
the
house
of
his
father,
and
there
is
not
cut
off
from
the
house
of
Joab
one
having
an
issue,
and
leprous,
and
laying
hold
on
a
staff,
and
falling
by
a
sword,
and
lacking
bread.`
30
And
Joab
and
Abishai
his
brother
slew
Abner
because
that
he
put
to
death
Asahel
their
brother,
in
Gibeon,
in
battle.
31
And
David
saith
unto
Joab,
and
unto
all
the
people
who
are
with
him,
`Rend
your
garments,
and
gird
on
sackcloth,
and
mourn
before
Abner;`
and
king
David
is
going
after
the
bier.
32
And
they
bury
Abner
in
Hebron,
and
the
king
lifteth
up
his
voice,
and
weepeth
at
the
grave
of
Abner,
and
all
the
people
weep;
33
and
the
king
lamenteth
for
Abner,
and
saith:
--
`As
the
death
of
a
fool
doth
Abner
die?
34
Thy
hands
not
bound,
And
thy
feet
to
fetters
not
brought
nigh!
As
one
falling
before
sons
of
evil
--
Thou
hast
fallen!`
and
all
the
people
add
to
weep
over
him.
35
And
all
the
people
come
to
cause
David
to
eat
bread
while
yet
day,
and
David
sweareth,
saying,
`Thus
doth
God
to
me,
and
thus
He
doth
add,
for
--
before
the
going
in
of
the
sun,
I
taste
no
bread
or
any
other
thing.`
36
And
all
the
people
have
discerned
it
,
and
it
is
good
in
their
eyes,
as
all
that
the
king
hath
done
is
good
in
the
eyes
of
all
the
people;
37
and
all
the
people
know,
even
all
Israel,
in
that
day,
that
it
hath
not
been
from
the
king
--
to
put
to
death
Abner
son
of
Ner.
38
And
the
king
saith
unto
his
servants,
`Do
ye
not
know
that
a
prince
and
a
great
one
hath
fallen
this
day
in
Israel?

to
his
evil.`

Jehovah

I

11
And
he
could

12
And
Abner
sent
messengers
to
David
on

Whose

saying
also,
Make

and,
behold,
my

to

Israel

13
And
he
said,
Well;
I
will

but
one
thing
I
require
of
thee:
that
is,
thou
shalt
not
see
my

except
thou
first

Michal,
Sauls
daughter,
when
thou
comest
to
see
my

14
And
David
sent
messengers
to
Ish-bosheth,
Sauls
son,
saying,
Deliver
me
my
wife
Michal,
whom
I
betrothed
to
me
for
a
hundred
foreskins
of
the
Philistines.
15
And
Ish-bosheth
sent,
and
took
her
from
her
husband,
even
from
Paltiel
the
son
of
Laish.
16
And
her
husband
went
with
her,
weeping
as
he
went,
and
followed
her
to
Bahurim.
Then
said
Abner
unto
him,
Go,
return:
and
he
returned.
17
And
Abner
had
communication
with
the
elders
of
Israel,
saying,
In
times
past
ye
sought
for
David
to
be
king
over
you:
18
now
then
do
it;
for
Jehovah
hath
spoken
of
David,
saying,
By
the
hand
of
my
servant
David
I
will
save
my
people
Israel
out
of
the
hand
of
the
Philistines,
and
out
of
the
hand
of
all
their
enemies.
19
And
Abner
also
spake
in
the
ears
of
Benjamin:
and
Abner
went
also
to
speak
in
the
ears
of
David
in
Hebron
all
that
seemed
good
to
Israel,
and
to
the
whole
house
of
Benjamin.
20
So
Abner
came
to
David
to
Hebron,
and
twenty
men
with
him.
And
David
made
Abner
and
the
men
that
were
with
him
a
feast.
21
And
Abner
said
unto
David,
I
will
arise
and
go,
and
will
gather
all
Israel
unto
my
lord
the
king,
that
they
may
make
a
covenant
with
thee,
and
that
thou
mayest
reign
over
all
that
thy
soul
desireth.
And
David
sent
Abner
away;
and
he
went
in
peace.
22
And,
behold,
the
servants
of
David
and
Joab
came
from
a
foray,
and
brought
in
a
great
spoil
with
them:
but
Abner
was
not
with
David
in
Hebron;
for
he
had
sent
him
away,
and
he
was
gone
in
peace.
23
When
Joab
and
all
the
host
that
was
with
him
were
come,
they
told
Joab,
saying,
Abner
the
son
of
Ner
came
to
the
king,
and
he
hath
sent
him
away,
and
he
is
gone
in
peace.
24
Then
Joab
came
to
the
king,
and
said,
What
hast
thou
done?
behold,
Abner
came
unto
thee;
why
is
it
that
thou
hast
sent
him
away,
and
he
is
quite
gone?
25
Thou
knowest
Abner
the
son
of
Ner,
that
he
came
to
deceive
thee,
and
to
know
thy
going
out
and
thy
coming
in,
and
to
know
all
that
thou
doest.
26
And
when
Joab
was
come
out
from
David,
he
sent
messengers
after
Abner,
and
they
brought
him
back
from
the
well
of
Sirah:
but
David
knew
it
not.
27
And
when
Abner
was
returned
to
Hebron,
Joab
took
him
aside
into
the
midst
of
the
gate
to
speak
with
him
quietly,
and
smote
him
there
in
the
body,
so
that
he
died,
for
the
blood
of
Asahel
his
brother.
28
And
afterward,
when
David
heard
it,
he
said,
I
and
my
kingdom
are
guiltless
before
Jehovah
for
ever
of
the
blood
of
Abner
the
son
of
Ner:
29
let
it
fall
upon
the
head
of
Joab,
and
upon
all
his
fathers
house;
and
let

not

from
the
house
of
Joab
one
that
hath
an
issue,
or
that
is
a
leper,
or
that
leaneth
on
a
staff,
or
that
falleth
by
the
sword,
or
that
lacketh
bread.
30
So
Joab
and
Abishai
his

slew
Abner,

Rend

and
gird

And
king
David

32
And

34
Thy

nor
thy

As
a

falleth
before
the

so
didst
thou
fall.
And
all
the
people
wept
again
over
him.
35
And
all
the
people
came
to
cause
David
to
eat
bread
while
it
was

but
David
sware,
saying,
God

36
And

and

David
sent
messengers
to
Ish-bosheth,
Saul's
son,
saying,
Deliver
me
my
wife
Michal,
whom
I
pledged
to
be
married
to
me
for
one
hundred
foreskins
of
the
Philistines.
15
Ish-bosheth
sent,
and
took
her
from
her
husband,
even
from
Paltiel
the
son
of
Laish.
16
Her
husband
went
with
her,
weeping
as
he
went,
and
followed
her
to
Bahurim.
Then
said
Abner
to
him,
Go,
return:
and
he
returned.
17
Abner
had
communication
with
the
elders
of
Israel,
saying,
In
times
past
you
sought
for
David
to
be
king
over
you:
18
now
then
do
it;
for
Yahweh
has
spoken
of
David,
saying,
By
the
hand
of
my
servant
David
I
will
save
my
people
Israel
out
of
the
hand
of
the
Philistines,
and
out
of
the
hand
of
all
their

19
Abner
also
spoke
in
the
ears
of
Benjamin:
and
Abner
went
also
to
speak
in
the
ears
of
David
in
Hebron
all
that
seemed
good
to
Israel,
and
to
the
whole
house
of
Benjamin.
20
So
Abner
came
to
David
to
Hebron,
and
twenty
men
with
him.
David
made
Abner
and
the
men
who
were
with
him
a
feast.
21
Abner
said
to
David,
I
will
arise
and
go,
and
will
gather
all
Israel
to
my
lord
the
king,
that
they
may
make
a
covenant

and
that
you
may
reign
over
all
that
your
soul
desires.
David
sent
Abner
away;
and
he
went
in
peace.
22
Behold,
the
servants
of
David
and
Joab
came
from
a
foray,
and
brought
in
a
great
spoil
with
them:
but
Abner
was
not
with
David
in
Hebron;
for
he
had
sent
him
away,
and
he
was
gone
in
peace.
23
When
Joab
and
all
the
host
who
was
with
him
had
come,
they
told
Joab,
saying,
Abner
the
son
of
Ner
came
to
the
king,
and
he
has
sent
him
away,
and
he
is
gone
in
peace.
24
Then
Joab
came
to
the
king,
and
said,
What
have
you
done?
behold,
Abner
came
to
you;
why
is
it
that
you
have
sent
him
away,
and
he
is
quite
gone?
25
You
know
Abner
the
son
of
Ner,
that
he
came
to
deceive
you,
and
to
know
your
going
out
and
your
coming
in,
and
to
know
all
that
you
do.
26
When
Joab
was
come
out
from
David,
he
sent
messengers
after
Abner,
and
they
brought
him
back
from
the
well
of
Sirah:
but
David
didn't
know
it.
27
When
Abner
was
returned
to
Hebron,
Joab
took
him
aside
into
the
midst
of
the
gate
to
speak
with
him
quietly,
and
struck
him
there
in
the
body,
so
that
he
died,
for
the
blood
of
Asahel
his
brother.
28
Afterward,
when
David
heard
it,
he
said,
I
and
my
kingdom
are
guiltless
before
Yahweh
forever
of
the
blood
of
Abner
the
son
of
Ner:
29
let
it
fall
on
the
head
of
Joab,
and
on
all
his
father's
house;
and
let
there
not
fail
from
the
house
of
Joab
one
who
has
an
issue,
or
who
is
a
leper,
or
who
leans
on
a
staff,
or
who
falls
by
the
sword,
or
who
lacks
bread.
30
So
Joab
and
Abishai
his
brother
killed
Abner,
because
he
had
killed
their
brother
Asahel
at
Gibeon
in
the
battle.
31
David
said
to
Joab,
and
to
all
the
people
who
were
with
him,
Tear
your
clothes,
and
gird
you
with
sackcloth,
and
mourn
before
Abner.
King
David
followed
the
bier.
32
They
buried
Abner
in
Hebron:
and
the
king
lifted
up
his
voice,
and
wept
at
the
grave
of
Abner;
and
all
the
people
wept.
33
The
king
lamented
for
Abner,
and
said,
Should
Abner
die
as
a
fool
dies?
34
Your
hands
were
not
bound,
nor
your
feet
put

fetters:
As
a
man
falls
before
the
children
of
iniquity,
so
did
you
fall.
All
the
people
wept
again
over
him.
35
All
the
people
came
to
cause
David
to
eat
bread
while
it

but
David
swore,
saying,
God

37

and
upon
all
his
fathers
house;
and
let
there
not
fail
from
the
house
of
Joab
one
that
hath
an
issue,
or
that
is
a
leper,
or
that
leaneth
on
a
staff,
or
that
falleth
by
the
sword,
or
that
lacketh
bread.
30
So
Joab
and
Abishai
his
brother
slew
Abner,
because
he
had
killed
their
brother
Asahel
at
Gibeon
in
the
battle.
31
And
David
said
to
Joab,
and
to
all
the
people
that
were
with
him,
Rend
your
clothes,
and
gird
you
with
sackcloth,
and
mourn
before
Abner.
And
king
David
followed
the
bier.
32
And
they
buried
Abner
in
Hebron:
and
the
king
lifted
up
his
voice,
and
wept
at
the
grave
of
Abner;
and
all
the
people
wept.
33
And
the
king
lamented
for
Abner,
and
said,
Should
Abner
die
as
a
fool
dieth?
34
Thy
hands
were
not
bound,
nor
thy
feet
put
into
fetters:
as
a
man
falleth
before
the
children
of
iniquity,
so
didst
thou
fall.
And
all
the
people
wept
again
over
him.
35
And
all
the
people
came
to
cause
David
to
eat
bread
while
it
was
yet
day;
but
David
sware,
saying,
God
do
so
to
me,
and
more
also,
if
I
taste
bread,
or
aught
else,
till
the
sun
be
down.
36
And
all
the
people
took
notice
of
it,
and
it
pleased
them:
as
whatsoever
the
king
did
pleased
all
the
people.
37
So
all
the
people
and
all
Israel
understood
that
day
that
it
was
not
of
the
king
to
slay
Abner
the
son
of
Ner.
38
And
the
king

unto
his
servants,
Know
ye
not
that
there
is
a
prince
and
a
great
man
fallen
this
day
in
Israel?
39
And
I
am
this
day
weak,
though

king;
and
these
men
the
sons
of
Zeruiah
be
too
hard
for
me:

LORD
reward
the
wicked
doer
according
to
his
wickedness.

As
the
war
continued
between
the
house
of
Saul
and
the
house
of
David,
Abner
was
becoming
more
influential
in
the
house
of
Saul.
7
Now
Saul
had
a
concubine
named
Rizpah
daughter
of
Aiah.
Ish-bosheth
said
to
Abner,
"Why
did
you
have
sexual
relations
with
my
father's
concubine?"
8
These
words
of
Ish-bosheth
really
angered
Abner
and
he
said,
"Am
I
the
head
of
a
dog
that
belongs
to
Judah?
This
very
day
I
am
demonstrating
loyalty
to
the

of
Saul

father
and
to
his
relatives
and
his
friends!
I
have
not
betrayed
you
into
the
hand
of
David.
Yet
you
have
accused
me
of
sinning
with
this
woman
today!
9
God
will
severely
judge
Abner
if
I
do
not
do
for
David
exactly
what
the
LORD
has
promised
him,
10
namely,
to
transfer
the
kingdom
from
the
house
of
Saul
and
to
establish
the
throne
of
David
over
Israel
and
over
Judah
all
the
way
from
Dan
to
Beer
Sheba!"
11
Ish-bosheth
was
unable
to
answer
Abner
with
even
a
single
word
because
he
was
afraid
of
him.
12
Then
Abner
sent
messengers
to
David
saying,
"To
whom
does
the
land
belong?
Make
an
agreement
with
me,
and
I
will
do
whatever
I
can
to
cause
all
Israel
to
turn
to
you."
13
So
David
said,
"Good!
I
will
make
an
agreement
with
you.
I
ask
only
one
thing
from
you.
You
will
not
see
my
face
unless
you
bring
Saul's
daughter
Michal
when
you
come
to
visit
me."
14
David
sent
messengers
to
Ish-bosheth
son
of
Saul
with
this
demand:
"Give
me
my
wife
Michal
whom
I
acquired
for
a
hundred
Philistine
foreskins."
15
So
Ish-bosheth
took
her
from
her
husband
Paltiel
son
of
Laish.
16
Her
husband
went
along
behind
her,
weeping
all
the
way
to
Bahurim.
Finally
Abner
said
to
him,
"Go
back!"
So
he
returned
home.
17
Abner
advised
the
elders
of
Israel,
"Previously
you
were
wanting
David
to
be
your
king.
18
Act
now!
For
the
LORD
has
said
to
David,
'By
the
hand
of
my
servant
David
I
will
save
my
people
Israel
from
the
Philistines
and
from
all
their
enemies.'"
19
Then
Abner
spoke
privately
with
the
Benjaminites.
Abner
also
went
to
Hebron
to
inform
David
privately
of
all
that
Israel
and
the
entire
house
of
Benjamin
had
agreed
to.
20
When
Abner,
accompanied
by
twenty
men,
came
to
David
in
Hebron,
David
prepared
a
banquet
for
Abner
and
the
men
who
were
with
him.
21
Abner
said
to
David,
"Let
me
leave
so
that
I
may
go
and
gather
all
Israel
to
my
lord
the
king
so
that
they
may
make
an
agreement
with
you.
Then
you
will
rule
over
all
that
you
desire."
So
David
sent
Abner
away,
and
he
left
in
peace.
22
Now
David's
soldiers
and
Joab
were
coming
back
from
a
raid,
bringing
a
great
deal
of
plunder
with
them.
Abner
was
no
longer
with
David
in
Hebron,
for
David
had
sent
him
away
and
he
had
left
in
peace.
23
When
Joab
and
all
the
army
that
was
with
him
arrived,
Joab
was
told:
"Abner
the
son
of
Ner
came
to
the
king;
he
sent
him
away,
and
he
left
in
peace!"
24
So
Joab
went
to
the
king
and
said,
"What
have
you
done?
Abner
has
come
to
you!
Why
would
you
send
him
away?
Now
he's
gone
on
his
way!
25
You
know
Abner
the
son
of
Ner!
Surely
he
came
here
to
spy
on
you
and
to
determine
when
you
leave
and
when
you
return
and
to
discover
everything
that
you
are
doing!"
26
Then
Joab
left
David
and
sent
messengers
after
Abner.
They
brought
him
back
from
the
well
of
Sirah.
(But
David
was
not
aware
of
it.)
27
When
Abner
returned
to
Hebron,
Joab
took
him
aside
at
the
gate
as
if
to
speak
privately
with
him.
Joab
then
stabbed
him
in
the
abdomen
and
killed
him,
avenging
the
shed
blood
of
his
brother
Asahel.
28
When
David
later
heard
about
this,
he
said,
"I
and
my
kingdom
are
forever
innocent
before
the
LORD
of
the
shed
blood
of
Abner
son
of
Ner!
29
May
his
blood
whirl
over
the
head
of
Joab
and
the
entire
house
of
his
father!
May
the
males
of
Joab's
house
never
cease
to
have
someone
with
a
running
sore
or
a
skin
disease
or
one
who
works
at
the
spindle
or
one
who
falls
by
the
sword
or
one
who
lacks
food!"
30
So
Joab
and
his
brother
Abishai
killed
Abner,
because
he
had
killed
their
brother
Asahel
in
Gibeon
during
the
battle.
31
David
instructed
Joab
and
all
the
people
who
were
with
him,
"Tear
your
clothes!
Put
on
sackcloth!
Lament
before
Abner!"
Now
King
David
followed
behind
the
funeral
bier.
32
So
they
buried
Abner
in
Hebron.
The
king
cried
loudly
over
Abner's
grave
and
all
the
people
wept
too.
33
The
king
chanted
the
following
lament
for
Abner:
"Should
Abner
have
died
like
a
fool?
34
Your
hands
were
not
bound,
and
your
feet
were
not
put
into
irons.
You
fell
the
way
one
falls
before
criminals."
All
the
people
wept
over
him
again.
35
Then
all
the
people
came
and
encouraged
David
to
eat
food
while
it
was
still
day.
But
David
took
an
oath
saying,
"God
will
punish
me
severely
if
I
taste
bread
or
anything
whatsoever
before
the
sun
sets!"
36
All
the
people
noticed
this
and
it
pleased
them.
In
fact,
everything
the
king
did
pleased
all
the
people.
37
All
the
people
and
all
Israel
realized
on
that
day
that
the
killing
of
Abner
son
of
Ner
was
not
done
at
the
king's
instigation.
38
Then
the
king
said
to
his
servants,
"Do
you
not
realize
that
a
great
leader
has
fallen
this
day
in
Israel?
39
Today
I
am
weak,
even
though

as

These

are
too
much
for

the

punish
appropriately
the
one
who
has
done
this
evil
thing!"

19
Abner
said
these
things
to
David
in
Hebron,
and
he
said
these
things
to
the
people
of
the
tribe
of
Benjamin.
The
things
Abner
said
sounded
good
to
the
tribe
of
Benjamin

to
all

20
Then
Abner

men

David
gave
a

Then
they

So
David
let
Abner

22
Joab
and
David's
officers
came
back
from
battle.
They
had
many
valuable
things
that
they
had
taken
from
the
enemy.
David
had
just
let
Abner
leave
in
peace.
So
Abner
was
not
there
in
Hebron
with
David.
23
Joab
and
all
his
army
arrived
at
Hebron.
The
army
said
to
Joab,
"Abner
son

Ner
came
to
King
David,
and
David
let
Abner

24
Joab
came

king
and
said,
"What

but
you

Why?
25

26
Joab

sent

Abner

The
messengers

Abner
back,
but
David

When

him

in

and
then
stabbed
him
in

So
he
got
his

Joab
killed
Abner
because

all
the
people
with
Joab,
"Tear
your
clothes
and
put
on
sackcloth.
Cry
for
Abner."
They
buried
Abner
in
Hebron.
David
went
to
the
funeral.
King
David
and
all
the
people
cried
at
Abner's
grave.
32
vnumber="32">
33
King
David
sang
this
sad
song
at
Abner's
funeral:
"Did
Abner
die
like
some
foolish
criminal?
34
Abner,
your
hands
were
not
tied.
Your
feet
were
not
put
in
chains.
No,
Abner,
evil
men
killed
you!"
Then
all
the
people
cried
again
for
Abner.
35
All
day
long
people
came
to
encourage
David
to
eat
food.
But
David
had
made
a
special
promise.
He
said,
"May
God
punish
me
and
give
me
many
troubles
if
I
eat
bread
or
any
other
food
before
the
sun
goes
down."
36
All
the
people
saw
what
happened,
and
they
were
pleased
with
what
King
David
had
done.
37
All
the
people
of
Judah
and
Israel
understood
that
King
David
had
not
killed
Abner
son
of
Ner.
38
King
David
said
to
his
officers,
"You
know
that
a
very
important
leader
died
today
in
Israel.
39
And
it
was
on
the
very
same
day
that
I
was
anointed
to
be
the
king.
These
sons
of
Zeruiah
have
caused
me
a
lot
of
trouble.
May
the
Lord
give
them
the
punishment
they
deserve."
1 Chronicles 3:2
2
The
third
son
was
Absalom.
His
mother
was
Maacah,
daughter
of
Talmai.
Talmai
was
the
king
of
Geshur.
The
fourth
son
was
Adonijah.
His
mother
was
Haggith.
