1
There
was
a
man
in
the
land
of
Uz,
whose
name
was
Job;
and
that
man
was
perfect
and
upright,
and
one
that
feared
God,
and
eschewed
evil.
2
And
there
were
born
unto
him
seven
sons
and
three
daughters.
3
His
substance
also
was
seven
thousand
sheep,
and
three
thousand
camels,
and
five
hundred
yoke
of
oxen,
and
five
hundred
she
asses,
and
a
very
great
household;
so
that
this
man
was
the
greatest
of
all
the
men
of
the
east.
4
And
his
sons
went
and
feasted
in
their
houses,
every
one
his
day;
and
sent
and
called
for
their
three
sisters
to
eat
and
to
drink
with
them.
5
And
it
was
so,
when
the
days
of
their
feasting
were
gone
about,
that
Job
sent
and
sanctified
them,
and
rose
up
early
in
the
morning,
and
offered
burnt
offerings
according
to
the
number
of
them
all:
for
Job
said,
It
may
be
that
my
sons
have
sinned,
and
cursed
God
in
their
hearts.
Thus
did
Job
continually.
6
Now
there
was
a
day
when
the
sons
of
God
came
to
present
themselves
before
the
LORD,
and
Satan
came
also
among
them.
7
And
the
LORD
said
unto
Satan,
Whence
comest
thou?
Then
Satan
answered
the
LORD,
and
said,
From
going
to
and
fro
in
the
earth,
and
from
walking
up
and
down
in
it.
8
And
the
LORD
said
unto
Satan,
Hast
thou
considered
my
servant
Job,
that
there
is
none
like
him
in
the
earth,
a
perfect
and
an
upright
man,
one
that
feareth
God,
and
escheweth
evil?
9
Then
Satan
answered
the
LORD,
and
said,
Doth
Job
fear
God
for
nought?
10
Hast
not
thou
made
an
hedge
about
him,
and
about
his
house,
and
about
all
that
he
hath
on
every
side?
thou
hast
blessed
the
work
of
his
hands,
and
his
substance
is
increased
in
the
land.
11
But
put
forth
thine
hand
now,
and
touch
all
that
he
hath,
and
he
will
curse
thee
to
thy
face.
12
And
the
LORD
said
unto
Satan,
Behold,
all
that
he
hath
is
in
thy
power;
only
upon
himself
put
not
forth
thine
hand.
So
Satan
went
forth
from
the
presence
of
the
LORD.
13
And
there
was
a
day
when
his
sons
and
his
daughters
were
eating
and
drinking
wine
in
their
eldest
brother’s
house:
14
And
there
came
a
messenger
unto
Job,
and
said,
The
oxen
were
plowing,
and
the
asses
feeding
beside
them:
15
And
the
Sabeans
fell
upon
them,
and
took
them
away;
yea,
they
have
slain
the
servants
with
the
edge
of
the
sword;
and
I
only
am
escaped
alone
to
tell
thee.
16
While
he
was
yet
speaking,
there
came
also
another,
and
said,
The
fire
of
God
is
fallen
from
heaven,
and
hath
burned
up
the
sheep,
and
the
servants,
and
consumed
them;
and
I
only
am
escaped
alone
to
tell
thee.
17
While
he
was
yet
speaking,
there
came
also
another,
and
said,
The
Chaldeans
made
out
three
bands,
and
fell
upon
the
camels,
and
have
carried
them
away,
yea,
and
slain
the
servants
with
the
edge
of
the
sword;
and
I
only
am
escaped
alone
to
tell
thee.
18
While
he
was
yet
speaking,
there
came
also
another,
and
said,
Thy
sons
and
thy
daughters
were
eating
and
drinking
wine
in
their
eldest
brother’s
house:
19
And,
behold,
there
came
a
great
wind
from
the
wilderness,
and
smote
the
four
corners
of
the
house,
and
it
fell
upon
the
young
men,
and
they
are
dead;
and
I
only
am
escaped
alone
to
tell
thee.
20
Then
Job
arose,
and
rent
his
mantle,
and
shaved
his
head,
and
fell
down
upon
the
ground,
and
worshipped,
21
And
said,
Naked
came
I
out
of
my
mother’s
womb,
and
naked
shall
I
return
thither:
the
LORD
gave,
and
the
LORD
hath
taken
away;
blessed
be
the
name
of
the
LORD.
22
In
all
this
Job
sinned
not,
nor
charged
God
foolishly.

his
sons
and
his
daughters
were
eating
and
drinking
wine
in
their
eldest
brother's
house,
14
that
there
came
a
messenger
to
Job,
and
said,
"The
oxen
were
plowing,
and
the
donkeys
feeding
beside
them,
15
and
the
Sabeans
attacked,
and
took
them
away.
Yes,
they
have
killed
the
servants
with
the
edge
of
the
sword,
and
I
alone
have
escaped
to
tell
you."
16
While
he
was
still
speaking,
there
also
came
another,
and
said,
"The
fire
of
God
has
fallen
from
the
sky,
and
has
burned
up
the
sheep
and
the
servants,
and
consumed
them,
and
I
alone
have
escaped
to
tell
you."
17
While
he
was
still
speaking,
there
came
also
another,
and
said,
"The
Chaldeans
made
three
bands,
and
swept
down
on
the
camels,
and
have
taken
them
away,
yes,
and
killed
the

with

18
While

20
Then
Job
arose,
and
tore
his

and
shaved
his

and
fell
down
on
the

and
worshiped.

When
the

were

Job
would

for

sanctify
them;
he
would
get
up
early
in
the

and
offer
burnt

according

the

all.
For
Job
thought,
"Perhaps
my

sinned
and
cursed

in
their

This
was
Job's
customary
practice.
6
Now
the
day
came
when
the
sons
of
God
came
to
present
themselves
before
the
LORD—
and
Satan
also
arrived
among
them.
7
The
LORD
said
to
Satan,
"Where
have
you
come
from?"
And
Satan
answered
the
LORD,
"From
roving
about
on
the
earth,
and
from
walking
back
and
forth
across
it."
8
So
the
LORD
said
to
Satan,
"Have

There

no

him
on

earth,
a
pure

9
Then
Satan
answered
the
LORD,
"Is
it
for
nothing
that
Job
fears
God?
10
Have
you
not
made
a
hedge
around
him
and
his

and
all

he

You
have
blessed
the

of
his

and
his

have
increased
in
the

11
But
extend
your
hand
and
strike
everything
he
has,
and
he
will
no

curse
you
to
your

12
So
the
LORD
said
to
Satan,
"All
right
then,
everything
he
has
is
in
your
power.
Only
do
not
extend
your
hand
against
the
man
himself!"
So
Satan
went
out
from
the
presence
of
the
LORD.

and
they
killed
the

with

And
I—
only

alone—
escaped

was
still
speaking,
another
messenger
arrived
and
said,

Then
the

Satan

Then
the
Lord

9
Satan
answered,
"But
Job
has
a
good
reason
to
respect
you.
10
You
always
protect
him,
his

and
everything
he

You
have
blessed
him

made
him
successful
in
everything
he
does.
He
is
so
wealthy
that
his

But
if
you
were

I
promise
you
that
he

you
to
your

12
The
Lord
said
to
Satan,
"All
right,
do
whatever

Job
himself."

Satan

put

Satan
answered
the
Lord,
"Job
honors
God
for
a
good
reason.
10
You
have
put
a
wall
around
him,
his
family,
and
everything
he
owns.
You
have
blessed
the
things
he
has
done.
His
flocks
and
herds
are
so
large
they
almost
cover
the
land.
11
But
reach
out
your
hand
and
destroy
everything
he
has,
and
he
will
curse
you
to
your
face."
12
The
Lord
said
to
Satan,
"All
right,
then.
Everything
Job
has
is
in
your
power,
but
you
must
not
touch
Job
himself."
Then
Satan
left
the
Lord's
presence.
13
One
day
Job's
sons
and
daughters
were
eating
and
drinking
wine
together
at
the
oldest
brother's
house.
14
A
messenger
came
to
Job
and
said,
"The
oxen
were
plowing
and
the
donkeys
were
eating
grass
nearby,
15
when
the
Sabeans
attacked
and
carried
them
away.
They
killed
the
servants
with
swords,
and
I
am
the
only
one
who
escaped
to
tell
you!"
16
The
messenger
was
still
speaking
when
another
messenger
arrived
and
said,
"Lightning
from
God
fell
from
the
sky.
It
burned
up
the
sheep
and
the
servants,
and
I
am
the
only
one
who
escaped
to
tell
you!"
17
The
second
messenger
was
still
speaking
when
another
messenger
arrived
and
said,
"The
Babylonians
sent
three
groups
of
attackers
that
swept
down
and
stole
your
camels
and
killed
the
servants.
I
am
the
only
one
who
escaped
to
tell
you!"
18
The
third
messenger
was
still
speaking
when
another
messenger
arrived
and
said,
"Your
sons
and
daughters
were
eating
and
drinking
wine
together
at
the
oldest
brother's
house.
19
Suddenly
a
great
wind
came
from
the
desert,
hitting
all
four
corners
of
the
house
at
once.
The
house
fell
in
on
the
young
people,
and
they
are
all
dead.
I
am
the
only
one
who
escaped
to
tell
you!"
20
When
Job
heard
this,
he
got
up
and
tore
his
robe
and
shaved
his
head
to
show
how
sad
he
was.
Then
he
bowed
down
to
the
ground
to
worship
God.
21
He
said:
"I
was
naked
when
I
was
born,
and
I
will
be
naked
when
I
die.
The
Lord
gave
these
things
to
me,
and
he
has
taken
them
away.
Praise
the
name
of
the
Lord."
22
In
all
this
Job
did
not
sin
or
blame
God.

Job

and
sanctify
them.
And
he
would
rise
early
in
the

burnt

according
to
all
their

For

answered
Jehovah
and
said,
From

walking
up

Jehovah
said

My

because

Satan

Jehovah

Have
You

his

You
have
blessed
the

But
put
out
Your

now,

that

"From

Satan
