- 1 After these things the word of Yahweh came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Don't be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward."
- 2 Abram said, "Lord Yahweh, what will you give me, seeing I go childless, and he who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?"
- 3 Abram said, "Behold, to me you have given no seed: and, behold, one born in my house is my heir."
- 4 Behold, the word of Yahweh came to him, saying, "This man will not be your heir, but he who will come forth out of your own body will be your heir."
- 5 Yahweh brought him outside, and said, "Look now toward the sky, and count the stars, if you are able to count them." He said to Abram, "So shall your seed be."
- 6 He believed in Yahweh; and he reckoned it to him for righteousness.
- 7 He said to him, "I am Yahweh who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give you this land to inherit it."
- 8 He said, "Lord Yahweh, how will I know that I will inherit it?"
- 9 He said to him, "Take me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtle-dove, and a young pigeon."
- 10 He took him all these, and divided them in the middle, and laid each half opposite the other; but he didn't divide the birds.
- 11 The birds of prey came down on the carcasses, and Abram drove them away.
- 12 When the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram. Now terror and great darkness fell on him.
- 13 He said to Abram, "Know for sure that your seed will live as foreigners in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them. They will afflict them four hundred years.
- 14 I will also judge that nation, whom they will serve. Afterward they will come out with great substance.
- 15 But you will go to your fathers in peace. You will be buried in a good old age.
- 16 In the fourth generation they will come here again, for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet full."
- 17 It came to pass that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold, a smoking furnace, and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.
- 18 In that day Yahweh made a covenant with Abram, saying, "To your seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates:
- 19 the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites,
- 20 the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,
- 21 the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites."
- 1 I saw, in the right hand of him who sat on the throne, a book written inside and outside, sealed shut with seven seals.
- 2 I saw a mighty angel proclaiming with a loud voice, "Who is worthy to open the book, and to break its seals?"
- 3 No one in heaven above, or on the earth, or under the earth, was able to open the book, or to look in it.
- 4 And I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open the book, or to look in it.
- 5 One of the elders said to me, "Don't weep. Behold, the Lion who is of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome; he who opens the book and its seven seals."
- 6 I saw in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, having seven horns, and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God, sent out into all the earth.
- 7 Then he came, and he took it out of the right hand of him who sat on the throne.
- 8 Now when he had taken the book, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
- 9 They sang a new song, saying, "You are worthy to take the book, And to open its seals: For you were killed, And bought us for God with your blood, Out of every tribe, language, people, and nation,
- 10 And made them kings and priests to our God, And they reign on earth."
- 11 I saw, and I heard something like a voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousands of ten thousands, and thousands of thousands;
- 12 saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb who has been killed to receive the power, wealth, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and blessing!"
- 13 I heard every created thing which is in heaven, on the earth, under the earth, on the sea, and everything in them, saying, "To him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb be the blessing, the honor, the glory, and the dominion, forever and ever! Amen!"
- 14 The four living creatures said, "Amen!" The elders fell down and worshiped.
