Matthew 27:31
31
And
after
that
they
had
mocked
him,
they
took
the
robe
off
from
him,
and
put
his
own
raiment
on
him,
and
led
him
away
to
crucify
him.

1
And
straightway
in
the
morning
the
chief
priests
held
a
consultation
with
the
elders
and
scribes
and
the
whole
council,
and
bound
Jesus,
and
carried
him
away,
and
delivered
him
to
Pilate.
2
And
Pilate
asked
him,
Art
thou
the
King
of
the
Jews?
And
he
answering
said
unto
him,
Thou
sayest
it.
3
And
the
chief
priests
accused
him
of
many
things:
but
he
answered
nothing.
4
And
Pilate
asked
him
again,
saying,
Answerest
thou
nothing?
behold
how
many
things
they
witness
against
thee.
5
But
Jesus
yet
answered
nothing;
so
that
Pilate
marvelled.
6
Now
at
that
feast
he
released
unto
them
one
prisoner,
whomsoever
they
desired.
7
And
there
was
one
named
Barabbas,
which
lay
bound
with
them
that
had
made
insurrection
with
him,
who
had
committed
murder
in
the
insurrection.
8
And
the
multitude
crying
aloud
began
to
desire
him
to
do
as
he
had
ever
done
unto
them.
9
But
Pilate
answered
them,
saying,
Will
ye
that
I
release
unto
you
the
King
of
the
Jews?
10
For
he
knew
that
the
chief
priests
had
delivered
him
for
envy.
11
But
the
chief
priests
moved
the
people,
that
he
should
rather
release
Barabbas
unto
them.
12
And
Pilate
answered
and
said
again
unto
them,
What
will
ye
then
that
I
shall
do
unto
him
whom
ye
call
the
King
of
the
Jews?
13
And
they
cried
out
again,
Crucify
him.
14
Then
Pilate
said
unto
them,
Why,
what
evil
hath
he
done?
And
they
cried
out
the
more
exceedingly,
Crucify
him.
15
And
so
Pilate,
willing
to
content
the
people,
released
Barabbas
unto
them,
and
delivered
Jesus,
when
he
had
scourged
him,
to
be
crucified.
16
And
the
soldiers
led
him
away
into
the
hall,
called
Praetorium;
and
they
call
together
the
whole
band.
17
And
they
clothed
him
with
purple,
and
platted
a
crown
of
thorns,
and
put
it
about
his
head,
18
And
began
to
salute
him,
Hail,
King
of
the
Jews!
19
And
they
smote
him
on
the
head
with
a
reed,
and
did
spit
upon
him,
and
bowing
their
knees
worshipped
him.
20
And
when
they
had
mocked
him,
they
took
off
the
purple
from
him,
and
put
his
own
clothes
on
him,
and
led
him
out
to
crucify
him.
21
And
they
compel
one
Simon
a
Cyrenian,
who
passed
by,
coming
out
of
the
country,
the
father
of
Alexander
and
Rufus,
to
bear
his
cross.
22
And
they
bring
him
unto
the
place
Golgotha,
which
is,
being
interpreted,
The
place
of
a
skull.
23
And
they
gave
him
to
drink
wine
mingled
with
myrrh:
but
he
received
it
not.
24
And
when
they
had
crucified
him,
they
parted
his
garments,
casting
lots
upon
them,
what
every
man
should
take.
25
And
it
was
the
third
hour,
and
they
crucified
him.
26
And
the
superscription
of
his
accusation
was
written
over,
THE
KING
OF
THE
JEWS.
27
And
with
him
they
crucify
two
thieves;
the
one
on
his
right
hand,
and
the
other
on
his
left.
28
And
the
scripture
was
fulfilled,
which
saith,
And
he
was
numbered
with
the
transgressors.
29
And
they
that
passed
by
railed
on
him,
wagging
their
heads,
and
saying,
Ah,
thou
that
destroyest
the
temple,
and
buildest
it
in
three
days,
30
Save
thyself,
and
come
down
from
the
cross.
31
Likewise
also
the
chief
priests
mocking
said
among
themselves
with
the
scribes,
He
saved
others;
himself
he
cannot
save.
32
Let
Christ
the
King
of
Israel
descend
now
from
the
cross,
that
we
may
see
and
believe.
And
they
that
were
crucified
with
him
reviled
him.
33
And
when
the
sixth
hour
was
come,
there
was
darkness
over
the
whole
land
until
the
ninth
hour.
34
And
at
the
ninth
hour
Jesus
cried
with
a
loud
voice,
saying,
Eloi,
Eloi,
lama
sabachthani?
which
is,
being
interpreted,
My
God,
my
God,
why
hast
thou
forsaken
me?
35
And
some
of
them
that
stood
by,
when
they
heard
it,
said,
Behold,
he
calleth
Elias.
36
And
one
ran
and
filled
a
spunge
full
of
vinegar,
and
put
it
on
a
reed,
and
gave
him
to
drink,
saying,
Let
alone;
let
us
see
whether
Elias
will
come
to
take
him
down.
37
And
Jesus
cried
with
a
loud
voice,
and
gave
up
the
ghost.
38
And
the
veil
of
the
temple
was
rent
in
twain
from
the
top
to
the
bottom.
39
And
when
the
centurion,
which
stood
over
against
him,
saw
that
he
so
cried
out,
and
gave
up
the
ghost,
he
said,
Truly
this
man
was
the
Son
of
God.
40
There
were
also
women
looking
on
afar
off:
among
whom
was
Mary
Magdalene,
and
Mary
the
mother
of
James
the
less
and
of
Joses,
and
Salome;
41
(Who
also,
when
he
was
in
Galilee,
followed
him,
and
ministered
unto
him;)
and
many
other
women
which
came
up
with
him
unto
Jerusalem.
42
And
now
when
the
even
was
come,
because
it
was
the
preparation,
that
is,
the
day
before
the
sabbath,
43
Joseph
of
Arimathaea,
an
honourable
counsellor,
which
also
waited
for
the
kingdom
of
God,
came,
and
went
in
boldly
unto
Pilate,
and
craved
the
body
of
Jesus.
44
And
Pilate
marvelled
if
he
were
already
dead:
and
calling
unto
him
the
centurion,
he
asked
him
whether
he
had
been
any
while
dead.
45
And
when
he
knew
it
of
the
centurion,
he
gave
the
body
to
Joseph.
46
And
he
bought
fine
linen,
and
took
him
down,
and
wrapped
him
in
the
linen,
and
laid
him
in
a
sepulchre
which
was
hewn
out
of
a
rock,
and
rolled
a
stone
unto
the
door
of
the
sepulchre.
47
And
Mary
Magdalene
and
Mary
the
mother
of
Joses
beheld
where
he
was
laid.
Luke 23:24
24
And
Pilate
gave
sentence
that
it
should
be
as
they
required.

And
immediately,
in
the
morning,
the
chief
priests
having
made
a
consultation,
with
the
elders,
and
scribes,
and
the
whole
sanhedrim,
having
bound
Jesus,
did
lead
away,
and
delivered
him
to
Pilate;
2
and
Pilate
questioned
him,
`Art
thou
the
king
of
the
Jews?`
and
he
answering
said
to
him,
`Thou
dost
say
it
.`
3
And
the
chief
priests
were
accusing
him
of
many
things,
but
he
answered
nothing.
4
And
Pilate
again
questioned
him,
saying,
`Thou
dost
not
answer
anything!
lo,
how
many
things
they
do
testify
against
thee!`
5
and
Jesus
did
no
more
answer
anything,
so
that
Pilate
wondered.
6
And
at
every
feast
he
was
releasing
to
them
one
prisoner,
whomsoever
they
were
asking;
7
and
there
was
one
named
Barabbas,
bound
with
those
making
insurrection
with
him,
who
had
in
the
insurrection
committed
murder.
8
And
the
multitude
having
cried
out,
began
to
ask
for
themselves
as
he
was
always
doing
to
them,
9
and
Pilate
answered
them,
saying,
`Will
ye
that
I
shall
release
to
you
the
king
of
the
Jews?`
10
for
he
knew
that
because
of
envy
the
chief
priests
had
delivered
him
up;
11
and
the
chief
priests
did
move
the
multitude,
that
he
might
rather
release
Barabbas
to
them.
12
And
Pilate
answering,
again
said
to
them,
`What,
then,
will
ye
that
I
shall
do
to
him
whom
ye
call
king
of
the
Jews?`
13
and
they
again
cried
out,
`Crucify
him.`
14
And
Pilate
said
to
them,
`Why
--
what
evil
did
he?`
and
they
cried
out
the
more
vehemently,
`Crucify
him;`
15
and
Pilate,
wishing
to
content
the
multitude,
released
to
them
Barabbas,
and
delivered
up
Jesus
--
having
scourged
him
--
that
he
might
be
crucified.
16
And
the
soldiers
led
him
away
into
the
hall,
which
is
Praetorium,
and
call
together
the
whole
band,
17
and
clothe
him
with
purple,
and
having
plaited
a
crown
of
thorns,
they
put
it
on
him,
18
and
began
to
salute
him,
`Hail,
King
of
the
Jews.`
19
And
they
were
smiting
him
on
the
head
with
a
reed,
and
were
spitting
on
him,
and
having
bent
the
knee,
were
bowing
to
him,
20
and
when
they
had
mocked
him,
they
took
the
purple
from
off
him,
and
clothed
him
in
his
own
garments,
and
they
led
him
forth,
that
they
may
crucify
him.
21
And
they
impress
a
certain
one
passing
by
--
Simon,
a
Cyrenian,
coming
from
the
field,
the
father
of
Alexander
and
Rufus
--
that
he
may
bear
his

22
and
they

him
to
the
place
Golgotha,
which
is,
being
interpreted,
`Place

23
and
they
were
giving
him
to
drink
wine
mingled
with
myrrh,
and
he
did
not
receive.
24
And
having
crucified
him,
they
were
dividing
his
garments,
casting
a
lot
upon
them,
what
each
may
take;
25
and
it
was
the

hour,
and
they
crucified
him;
26
and
the
inscription
of
his
accusation
was
written
above
--
`The
King
of
the
Jews.`
27
And
with
him
they
crucify
two
robbers,
one
on
the
right
hand,
and
one
on
his
left,
28
and
the
Writing
was
fulfilled
that
is
saying,
`And

29
And
those
passing
by
were
speaking
evil
of
him,
shaking
their
heads,
and
saying,
`Ah,
the
thrower
down
of
the
sanctuary,
and
in
three
days
the
builder!
30
save
thyself,
and
come
down
from
the
cross!`
31
And
in
like
manner
also
the
chief
priests,
mocking
with
one
another,
with
the
scribes,
said,
`Others
he
saved;
himself
he
is
not
able
to
save.
32
The
Christ!
the
king
of
Israel
--
let
him
come
down
now
from
the
cross,
that
we
may
see

and
those
crucified
with
him
were
reproaching
him.
33
And
the
sixth
hour
having
come,
darkness
came
over
the
whole
land
till
the
ninth
hour,
34
and
at
the
ninth
hour
Jesus
cried
with
a
great
voice,
saying,
`Eloi,
Eloi,
lamma
sabachthani?`
which
is,
being
interpreted,
`My
God,
my
God,
why
didst
Thou
forsake
me?`
35
And
certain
of
those
standing
by,
having
heard,
said,
`Lo,
Elijah
he
doth
call;`
36
and
one
having
run,
and
having
filled
a
spunge
with
vinegar,
having
put
it
also
on
a
reed,
was
giving
him
to
drink,
saying,
`Let
alone,
let
us
see
if
Elijah
doth
come
to
take
him
down.`
37
And
Jesus
having
uttered
a
loud
cry,
yielded
the
spirit,
38
and
the
veil
of
the
sanctuary
was
rent
in
two,
from
top
to
bottom,
39
and
the
centurion
who
was
standing
over-against
him,
having
seen
that,
having
so
cried
out,
he
yielded
the
spirit,
said,
`Truly
this
man
was
Son
of
God.`

And
now
evening
having
come,
seeing
it

43
Joseph
of
Arimathea,
an
honourable
counsellor,
who
also
himself
was
waiting
for
the
reign
of
God,
came,
boldly
entered
in
unto
Pilate,
and
asked
the
body
of
Jesus.
44
And
Pilate
wondered
if
he
were
already
dead,
and
having
called
near
the
centurion,
did
question
him
if
he
were
long
dead,
45
and
having
known
it
from
the
centurion,
he
granted
the
body
to
Joseph.
46
And
he,
having
brought
fine
linen,
and
having
taken
him
down,
wrapped
him
in

and
laid
him
in

me
to
release
to
you
the
King
of
the
Jews?"
10
For
he
perceived
that
for
envy
the
chief
priests
had
delivered
him
up.
11
But
the
chief
priests
stirred
up
the
multitude,
that
he
should
release
Barabbas
to
them
instead.
12
Pilate
again
asked
them,
"What
then
should
I
do
to
him
whom
you
call
the
King
of
the
Jews?"
13
They
cried
out
again,
"Crucify
him!"
14
Pilate
said
to
them,
"Why,
what
evil
has
he
done?"
But
they
cried
out
exceedingly,
"Crucify
him!"
15
Pilate,
wishing
to
please
the
multitude,
released
Barabbas
to
them,
and
handed
over
Jesus,
when
he
had
flogged
him,
to
be
crucified.
16
The
soldiers
led
him
away
within
the
court,
which
is
the
Praetorium;
and
they
called
together
the
whole
cohort.
17
They
clothed
him
with
purple,
and
weaving
a
crown
of
thorns,
they
put
it
on
him.
18
They
began
to
salute
him,
"Hail,
King
of
the
Jews!"
19
They
struck
his
head
with
a
reed,
and
spat
on
him,
and
bowing
their
knees,
did
homage
to
him.
20
When
they
had
mocked
him,
they
took
the
purple
off
of
him,
and
put
his
own
garments
on
him.
They
led
him
out
to
crucify
him.
21
They
compelled
one
passing
by,
coming
from
the
country,
Simon
of
Cyrene,
the
father
of
Alexander
and
Rufus,
to
go
with
them,
that
he
might
bear
his
cross.
22
They
brought
him
to
the
place
called
Golgotha,
which
is,
being
interpreted,
"The
place
of
a
skull."
23
They
offered
him
wine
mixed
with
myrrh
to
drink,
but
he
didn't
take
it.
24
Crucifying
him,
they
parted
his
garments
among
them,
casting
lots
on
them,
what
each
should
take.
25
It
was
the
third
hour,
and
they
crucified
him.
26
The
superscription
of
his
accusation
was
written
over
him,
"THE
KING
OF
THE
JEWS."
27
With
him
they
crucified
two
robbers;
one
on
his
right
hand,
and
one
on
his
left.
28
The
Scripture
was
fulfilled,
which
says,
"He
was
numbered
with
transgressors."
29
Those
who
passed
by
blasphemed
him,
wagging
their
heads,
and
saying,
"Ha!
You
who
destroy
the
temple,
and
build
it
in
three
days,
30
save
yourself,
and
come
down
from
the
cross!"
31
Likewise,
also
the
chief
priests
mocking
among
themselves
with
the
scribes
said,
"He
saved
others.
He
can't
save
himself.
32
Let
the
Christ,
the
King
of
Israel,
now
come
down
from
the
cross,
that
we
may
see
and
believe
him."
Those
who
were
crucified
with
him
insulted
him.
33
When
the
sixth
hour
had
come,
there
was
darkness
over
the
whole
land
until
the
ninth
hour.
34
At
the
ninth
hour
Jesus
cried
with
a
loud
voice,
saying,
"Eloi,
Eloi,
lama
sabachthani?"
which
is,
being
interpreted,
"My
God,
my
God,
why
have
you
forsaken
me?"
35
Some
of
those
who
stood
by,
when
they
heard
it,
said,
"Behold,
he
is
calling
Elijah."
36
One
ran,
and
filling
a
sponge
full
of
vinegar,
put
it
on
a
reed,
and
gave
it
to
him
to
drink,
saying,
"Let
him
be.
Let's
see
whether
Elijah
comes
to
take
him
down."
37
Jesus
cried
out
with
a
loud
voice,
and
gave
up
the
spirit.
38
The
veil
of
the
temple
was
torn
in
two
from
the
top
to
the
bottom.
39
When
the
centurion,
who
stood
by
opposite
him,
saw
that
he
cried
out
like
this
and
breathed
his
last,
he
said,
"Truly
this
man
was
the
Son
of
God!"
40
There
were
also
women
watching
from
afar,
among
whom
were
both
Mary
Magdalene,
and
Mary
the
mother
of
James
the
less
and
of
Joses,
and
Salome;
41
who,
when
he
was
in
Galilee,
followed
him,
and
served
him;
and
many
other
women
who
came
up
with
him
to
Jerusalem.
42
When
evening
had
now
come,
because
it
was
the
Preparation
Day,
that

the

43
Joseph
of
Arimathaea,
a
prominent
council
member
who
also
himself
was
looking
for
the
Kingdom
of
God,
came.
He
boldly
went
in
to
Pilate,
and
asked
for
Jesus'
body.
44
Pilate
marveled
if
he
were
already
dead;
and
summoning
the
centurion,
he
asked
him
whether
he
had
been
dead
long.
45
When
he
found
out
from
the
centurion,
he
granted
the
body
to
Joseph.
46
He
bought
a
linen
cloth,
and
taking
him
down,
wound
him
in
the
linen
cloth,
and
laid
him
in
a
tomb
which
had
been
cut
out
of
a
rock.
He
rolled
a
stone
against
the
door
of
the
tomb.
47
Mary
Magdalene
and
Mary,
the
mother
of
Joses,
saw
where
he
was
laid.
Luke 23:24
24
Pilate
decreed
that
what
they
asked
for
should
be
done.

which
said,
And
he
was
numbered
with
the
transgressors.
29
And
they
that
passed
by
railed
on
him,
wagging
their
heads,
and
saying,
Ah,
you
that
destroy
the
temple,
and
build
it
in
three
days,
30
Save
yourself,
and
come
down
from
the
cross.
31
Likewise
also
the
chief
priests
mocking
said
among
themselves
with
the
scribes,
He
saved
others;
himself
he
cannot
save.
32
Let
Christ
the
King
of
Israel
descend
now
from
the
cross,
that
we
may
see
and
believe.
And
they
that
were
crucified
with
him
reviled
him.
33
And
when
the
sixth
hour
was
come,
there
was
darkness
over
the
whole
land
until
the
ninth
hour.
34
And
at
the
ninth
hour
Jesus
cried
with
a
loud
voice,
saying,
Eloi,
Eloi,
lama
sabachthani?
which
is,
being
interpreted,
My
God,
my
God,
why
have
you
forsaken
me?
35
And
some
of
them
that
stood
by,
when
they
heard
it,
said,
Behold,
he
calls
Elias.
36
And
one
ran
and
filled
a
sponge
full
of
vinegar,
and
put
it
on
a
reed,
and
gave
him
to
drink,
saying,
Let
alone;
let
us
see
whether
Elias
will
come
to
take
him
down.
37
And
Jesus
cried
with
a
loud
voice,
and
gave
up
the
ghost.
38
And
the
veil
of
the
temple
was
rent
in
two
from
the
top
to
the
bottom.
39
And
when
the
centurion,
which
stood
over
against
him,
saw
that
he
so
cried
out,
and
gave
up
the
ghost,
he
said,
Truly
this
man
was
the
Son
of
God.
40
There
were
also
women
looking
on
afar
off:
among
whom
was
Mary
Magdalene,
and
Mary
the
mother
of
James
the
less
and
of
Joses,
and
Salome;
41
(Who
also,
when
he
was
in
Galilee,
followed
him,
and
ministered
to
him;)
and
many
other
women
which
came
up
with
him
to
Jerusalem.
42
And
now
when
the
even
was
come,
because
it
was
the
preparation,
that
is,
the
day
before
the
sabbath,
43
Joseph
of
Arimathaea,
an
honorable
counselor,
which
also
waited
for
the
kingdom
of
God,
came,
and
went
in
boldly
to
Pilate,
and
craved
the
body
of
Jesus.
44
And
Pilate
marveled
if
he
were
already
dead:
and
calling
to
him
the
centurion,
he
asked
him
whether
he
had
been
any
while
dead.
45
And
when
he
knew
it
of
the
centurion,
he
gave
the
body
to
Joseph.
46
And
he
bought
fine
linen,
and
took
him
down,
and
wrapped
him
in
the
linen,
and
laid
him
in
a
sepulcher
which
was
hewn
out
of
a
rock,
and
rolled
a
stone
to
the
door
of
the
sepulcher.
47
And
Mary
Magdalene
and
Mary
the
mother
of
Joses
beheld
where
he
was
laid.
Luke 23:24
24
And
Pilate
gave
sentence
that
it
should
be
as
they
required.

1
Early
in
the
morning,
after
forming
a
plan,
the
chief
priests
with
the
elders
and
the
experts
in
the
law
and
the
whole
Sanhedrin
tied
Jesus
up,
led
him
away,
and
handed
him
over
to
Pilate.
2
So
Pilate
asked
him,
"Are
you
the
king
of
the
Jews?"
He
replied,
"You
say
so."
3
Then
the
chief
priests
began
to
accuse
him
repeatedly.
4
So
Pilate
asked
him
again,
"Have
you
nothing
to
say?
See
how
many
charges
they
are
bringing
against
you!"
5
But
Jesus
made
no
further
reply,
so
that
Pilate
was
amazed.
6
During
the
feast
it
was
customary
to
release
one
prisoner
to
the
people,
whomever
they
requested.
7
A
man
named
Barabbas
was
imprisoned
with
rebels
who
had
committed
murder
during
an
insurrection.
8
Then
the
crowd
came
up
and
began
to
ask
Pilate
to
release
a
prisoner
for
them,
as
was
his
custom.
9
So
Pilate
asked
them,
"Do
you
want
me
to
release
the
king
of
the
Jews
for
you?"
10
(For
he
knew
that
the
chief
priests
had
handed
him
over
because
of
envy.)
11
But
the
chief
priests
stirred
up
the
crowd
to
have
him
release
Barabbas
instead.
12
So
Pilate
spoke
to
them
again,
"Then
what
do
you
want
me
to
do
with
the
one
you
call
king
of
the
Jews?"
13
They
shouted
back,
"Crucify
him!"
14
Pilate
asked
them,
"Why?
What
has
he
done
wrong?"
But
they
shouted
more
insistently,
"Crucify
him!"
15
Because
he
wanted
to
satisfy
the
crowd,
Pilate
released
Barabbas
for
them.
Then,
after
he
had
Jesus
flogged,
he
handed
him
over
to
be
crucified.
16
So
the
soldiers
led
him
into
the
palace
(that
is,
the
governor's
residence)
and
called
together
the
whole
cohort.
17
They
put
a
purple
cloak
on
him
and
after
braiding
a
crown
of
thorns,
they
put
it
on
him.
18
They
began
to
salute
him:
"Hail,
king
of
the
Jews!"
19
Again
and
again
they
struck
him
on
the
head
with
a
staff
and
spit
on
him.
Then
they
knelt
down
and
paid
homage
to
him.
20
When
they
had
finished
mocking
him,
they
stripped
him
of
the
purple
cloak
and
put
his
own
clothes

Then
they

The
soldiers
forced
a
passerby
to
carry
his
cross,
Simon
of
Cyrene,
who
was
coming
in
from
the
country
(he
was
the
father
of
Alexander
and
Rufus).
22
They
brought
Jesus
to
a
place
called
Golgotha
(which
is
translated,
"Place
of
the
Skull").
23
They
offered
him
wine
mixed
with
myrrh,
but
he
did
not
take
it.
24
Then
they
crucified
him
and
divided
his
clothes,
throwing
dice
for
them,
to
decide
what
each
would
take.
25
It
was
nine
o'clock
in
the
morning
when
they
crucified
him.
26
The
inscription
of
the
charge
against
him
read,
"The

27
And
they
crucified
two

with

on
his

and
one

his

Jesus

breathed
his

the
temple
curtain

torn

Now
when
the

stood
in

of
him,
saw
how
he
died,
he
said,
"Truly
this
man
was

There
were

was
himself
looking

the

went
boldly
to
Pilate

asked
for
the
body
of
Jesus.
44
Pilate
was

that
he

He
called
the
centurion
and
asked
him
if
he

for
some

45
When
Pilate
was
informed
by
the
centurion,
he
gave
the
body
to
Joseph.
46
After
Joseph
bought
a
linen
cloth

took

he
wrapped
it
in

placed
it

he

So
Pilate
decided
that
their
demand
should
be
granted.

that

3
The

accused
Jesus
of

4
So
Pilate

He

"You

Among
these
women
were
Mary
Magdalene,
Salome,
and
Mary
the
mother
of
James
and
Joses.
(James
was
her
youngest
son.)
41
These
were
the
women
who
had
followed
Jesus
in
Galilee
and
cared
for
him.
Many
other
women
who
had
come
with
Jesus
to
Jerusalem
were
also
there.
42
This
day
was
called
Preparation
day.
(That
means
the
day
before
the
Sabbath
day.)
It
was
becoming
dark.
43
A
man
named
Joseph
from
Arimathea
was
brave
enough
to
go
to
Pilate
and
ask
for
Jesus'
body.
Joseph
was
an
important
member
of
the
high
council.
He
was
one
of
the
people
who
wanted
God's
kingdom
to
come.
44
Pilate
was
surprised
to
hear
that
Jesus
was
already
dead.
So
he
called
for
the
army
officer
in
charge
and
asked
him
if
Jesus
was
already
dead.
45
When
Pilate
heard
it
from
the
officer,
he
told
Joseph
he
could
have
the
body.
46
Joseph
bought
some
linen
cloth.
He
took
the
body
from
the
cross,
wrapped
it
in
the
linen,
and
put
the
body
in
a
tomb
that
was
dug
in
a
wall
of
rock.
Then
he
closed
the
tomb
by
rolling
a
large
stone
to
cover
the
entrance.
47
Mary
Magdalene
and
Mary
the
mother
of
Joses
saw
the
place
where
Jesus
was
put.
Luke 23:24
24
Pilate
decided
to
give
them
what
they
wanted.

1
Early
in
the
morning
the
head
religious
leaders
of
the
Jews
and
other
leaders
and
the
teachers
of
the
Law
and
all
the
court
gathered
together
to
talk
about
Jesus.
Then
they
tied
up
Jesus
and
led
Him
away.
They
handed
Him
over
to
Pilate.
2
Pilate
asked
Jesus,
"Are
You
the
King
of
the
Jews?"
He
said
to
Pilate,
"What
you
say
is
true."
3
The
religious
leaders
spoke
many
things
against
Him.
Jesus
did
not
say
a
word.
4
Pilate
asked
Him
again,
"Have
You
nothing
to
say?
Listen
to
the
things
they
are
saying
against
You!"
5
Jesus
did
not
say
a
word.
Pilate
was
much
surprised
and
wondered
about
it.
6
Each
year
at
the
special
supper
Pilate
would
let
one
person
who
was
in
prison
go
free.
It
would
be
the
one
the
people
asked
for.
7
The
name
of
one
of
those
in
prison
was
Barabbas.
He,
together
with
others,
had
killed
people
while
working
against
the
leaders
of
the
country.
8
All
the
people
went
to
Pilate
and
asked
him
to
do
as
he
had
done
before.
9
Pilate
said,
"Do
you
want
me
to
let
the
King
of
the
Jews
go
free?"
10
He
knew
the
religious
leaders
had
handed
Jesus
over
to
him
because
they
were
jealous.
11
The
religious
leaders
talked
the
people
into
thinking
that
Pilate
should
let
Barabbas
go
free.
12
Pilate
said
to
them
again,
"What
do
you
want
me
to
do
with
the
Man
you
call
the
King
of
the
Jews?"
13
They
spoke
with
loud
voices
again,
"Nail
Him
to
a
cross."
14
Then
Pilate
said
to
them,
"Why?
What
bad
thing
has
He
done?"
They
spoke
with
loud
voices
all
the
more,
"Nail
Him
to
a
cross!"
15
Pilate
wanted
to
please
the
people.
He
gave
Barabbas
to
them
and
had
Jesus
beaten.
Then
he
handed
Him
over
to
be
nailed
to
a
cross.
16
The
soldiers
led
Jesus
away
to
a
large
room
in
the
court.
They
called
all
the
soldiers
together.
17
The
soldiers
put
a
purple
coat
on
Him.
They
put
a
crown
of
thorns
on
His
head,
18
and
said
to
Him,
"Hello,
King
of
the
Jews!"
19
They
hit
Him
on
the
head
with
a
stick
and
spit
on
Him.
They
got
down
on
their
knees
and
worshiped
Him.
20
After
they
had
made
fun
of
Him,
they
took
the
purple
coat
off
of
Him
and
put
His
own
clothes
back
on
Him.
Then
they
led
Him
away
to
be
nailed
to
a
cross.
21
They
came
to
a
man
called
Simon
who
was
coming
from
the
country
of
Cyrene.
He
was
the
father
of
Alexander
and
Rufus.
They
made
Simon
carry
the
cross
of
Jesus.
22
They
led
Jesus
to
a
place
called
Golgotha.
This
name
means
the
place
of
the
skull.
23
They
gave
Him
wine
with
something
in
it
to
take
away
the
pain,
but
He
would
not
drink
it.
24
When
they
had
nailed
Jesus
to
the
cross,
they
divided
His
clothes
by
drawing
names
to
see
what
each
man
should
take.
25
It
was
about
nine
o'clock
in
the
morning
when
they
nailed
Him
to
the
cross.
26
Over
Jesus'
head
they
put
in
writing
what
they
had
against
Him,
THE
KING
OF
THE
JEWS.
27
They
nailed
two
robbers
on
crosses
beside
Jesus.
One
was
on
His
right
side
and
the
other
was
on
His
left
side.
28
*It
happened
as
the
Holy
Writings
said
it
would
happen,
"They
thought
of
Him
as
One
Who
broke
the
Law."
(Isaiah
53:12)
29
Those
who
walked
by
shook
their
heads
and
laughed
at
Jesus.
They
said,
"You
were
the
One
Who
could
destroy
the
house
of
God
and
build
it
again
in
three
days.
30
Save
Yourself
and
come
down
from
the
cross."
31
The
head
religious
leaders
and
the
teachers
of
the
Law
made
fun
of
Him
also.
They
said
to
each
other,
"He
saved
others
but
He
cannot
save
Himself.
32
Let
Christ,
the
King
of
the
Jews,
come
down
from
the
cross.
We
want
to
see
it
and
then
we
will
believe."
Those
who
were
on
the
crosses
beside
Jesus
spoke
bad
things
to
Him.
33
From
noon
until
three
o'clock
it
was
dark
over
all
the
land.
34
At
three
o'clock
Jesus
cried
with
a
loud
voice,
"My
God,
My
God,
why
have
You
left
Me
alone?"
35
When
some
of
those
who
stood
by
heard
that,
they
said,
"Listen!
He
is
calling
for
Elijah."
36
One
of
them
ran
and
took
a
sponge
and
filled
it
with
sour
wine.
He
put
it
on
a
stick
and
gave
it
to
Him
to
drink.
He
said,
"Let
Him
alone.
Let
us
see
if
Elijah
will
come
and
take
Him
down."
37
Then
Jesus
gave
a
loud
cry.
He
gave
up
His
spirit
and
died.
38
The
curtain
in
the
house
of
God
was
torn
in
two
from
top
to
bottom.
39
The
captain
of
the
soldiers
was
looking
at
Jesus
when
He
cried
out.
He
saw
Him
die
and
said,
"For
sure,
this
Man
was
the
Son
of
God."
40
Women
were
looking
on
from
far
away.
Among
them
was
Mary
Magdalene
and
Mary
the
mother
of
the
younger
James
and
of
Joses,
and
Salome.
41
These
cared
for
Him
when
He
was
in
the
country
of
Galilee.
There
were
many
other
women
there
who
had
followed
Him
to
Jerusalem.
42
It
was
the
day
to
get
ready
for
the
Day
of
Rest
and
it
was
now
evening.
43
Joseph,
who
was
from
the
city
of
Arimathea,
was
an
important
man
in
the
court.
He
was
looking
for
the
holy
nation
of
God.
Without
being
afraid,
he
went
to
Pilate
and
asked
for
the
body
of
Jesus.
44
Pilate
was
surprised
and
wondered
if
Jesus
was
dead
so
soon.
He
called
the
captain
of
the
soldiers
and
asked
if
Jesus
was
already
dead.
45
After
the
captain
said
that
Jesus
was
dead,
Pilate
let
Joseph
take
the
body.
46
Joseph
took
the
body
of
Jesus
down
from
the
cross.
He
put
the
linen
cloth
he
had
bought
around
the
body.
Then
he
laid
the
body
in
a
grave
which
had
been
cut
out
in
the
side
of
a
rock.
He
pushed
a
stone
over
to
cover
the
door
of
the
grave.
47
Mary
Magdalene
and
Mary
the
mother
of
Joses
saw
where
He
was
laid.
Luke 23:24
24
Then
Pilate
said
that
it
should
be
done
as
they
wanted.

Very
early
in
the
morning,
the
leading
priests,
the
older
leaders,
the
teachers
of
the
law,
and
all
the
Jewish
council
decided
what
to
do
with
Jesus.
They
tied
him,
led
him
away,
and
turned
him
over
to
Pilate,
the
governor.
2
Pilate
asked
Jesus,
"Are
you
the
king
of
the
Jews?"
Jesus
answered,
"Those
are
your
words."
3
The
leading
priests
accused
Jesus
of
many
things.
4
So
Pilate
asked
Jesus
another
question,
"You
can
see
that
they
are
accusing
you
of
many
things.
Aren't
you
going
to
answer?"
5
But
Jesus
still
said
nothing,
so
Pilate
was
very
surprised.
6
Every
year
at
the
time
of
the
Passover
the
governor
would
free
one
prisoner
whom
the
people
chose.
7
At
that

there
was
a

named
Barabbas
in
prison
who
was
a
rebel
and
had
committed
murder
during
a

8
The
crowd
came
to
Pilate
and
began
to
ask
him
to
free
a
prisoner
as
he
always
did.
9
So
Pilate
asked
them,
"Do
you
want
me
to
free
the
king
of
the
Jews?"
10
Pilate
knew
that
the
leading

had
turned

because
they
were

11
But
the
leading
priests
had
persuaded
the
people
to
ask
Pilate
to
free
Barabbas,
not
Jesus.
12
Then
Pilate
asked
the
crowd
again,
"So
what
should
I
do
with
this
man
you
call
the
king
of
the
Jews?"
13
They
shouted,
"Crucify
him!"
14
Pilate
asked,
"Why?
What
wrong
has
he
done?"
But
they
shouted
even
louder,
"Crucify
him!"
15
Pilate
wanted
to
please
the
crowd,
so
he
freed
Barabbas
for
them.
After
having
Jesus
beaten
with
whips,
he
handed
Jesus
over
to
the
soldiers
to
be
crucified.
16
The
soldiers
took
Jesus
into
the

(called
the

and
called
all
the
other
soldiers
together.
17
They
put
a

and
used
thorny

18
They
began
to

out
to

1
And
immediately
in
the
morning,
the
chief
priests
with
the
elders
and
scribes
and
all
the
sanhedrin
having
made
a
council,
having
bound
Jesus,
they
led
Him
away
and
delivered
Him
to
Pilate.
2
And
Pilate
questioned
Him,
Are
you
the
king
of
the
Jews?
And
answering,
He
said
to
him,
You
say
it.
3
And
the
chief
priests
urgently
accused
Him
of
many
things.
But
He
answered
nothing.
4
But
Pilate
again
questioned
Him,
saying,
Do
You
answer
nothing?
Behold,
how
many
things
they
testify
against
You.
5
But
Jesus
answered
no
more,
nothing,
so
as
for
Pilate
to
marvel.
6
And
at
a
feast,
he
released

7
And
there
was
one
called
Barabbas,
having
been

with
the

who
in
the
insurrection
had
committed
murder.
8
And
crying
aloud,
the
crowd
began
to
beg
him
to
do
as
he
always
did
to
them.
9
But
Pilate
answered
them,
saying,
Do
you
desire
I
should
release
to
you
the
king
of
the
Jews?
10
For
he
knew
that
the
chief
priests
had
delivered
Him
up
through
envy.
11
But
the
chief
priests
stirred
up
the
crowd,
that
rather
he
should

Barabbas
to
them.
12
But
answering
again,
Pilate
said
to
them,
What
then
do
you
desire
I
do
to
him
whom
you
call
king
of
the
Jews?
13
And
again
they
cried
out,
Crucify
Him!
14
But
Pilate
said
to
them,
For
what
evil
did

But
they
much
more
cried
out,
Crucify
Him!
15
And
having
decided
to
do
the
easiest
to
the
crowd,
Pilate
released
Barabbas
to
them.
And
having
flogged
Him,
he
delivered
up
Jesus,
that
He
might
be
crucified.
16
And
the
soldiers
led
Him
away

And
they
called
together

17
And
they
put
purple
on
Him,
and
they
plaited
and
placed
a
crown
of
thorns
on
Him.
18
And
they
began
to

Him,

19
And
they
struck

and
Rufus,
that
he
might
carry
His
cross.
22
And
they
brought
Him
to
Golgotha
Place,
which
is,
being
translated,
Place
of
a
Skull.
23
And
they
gave
Him
wine
spiced
with
myrrh
to
drink.
But
He
did
not
take
it.
24
And
having
crucified
Him,
they
divided
His
garments,
casting
a
lot
on
them,
who
and
what
each
should
take.
Psa.
22:18
25
And
it
was
the
third
hour,
and
they
crucified
Him.
26
And
the
inscription
of
His
charge
was
written
over
Him,
THE
KING
OF
THE
JEWS.
27
And
they
crucified
two
robbers
with
Him,
one
off
the
right,
and
one
off
the
left
of
Him.
28
And
the
Scripture
was
fulfilled
which
says,
"And
He
was
numbered
with
the
lawless."
Isa.
53:12
29
And
those
passing
by
blasphemed
Him,
shaking
their
heads,
and
saying,
Aha!
You
razing
the
temple,
and
in
three
days
building
it,
30
save
Yourself
and
come
down
from
the
cross.
31
And
also
the
chief
priests
and
the
scribes
mocking
to
one
another
said
likewise,
He
saved
others;
He
is
not
able
to
save
Himself.
32
The
Christ,
the
king
of
Israel?
Let
Him
now
come
down
from
the
cross,
that
we
may
see
and
believe.
And
the
ones
crucified
with
Him
defamed
Him.
33
And
it
being
the
sixth
hour,
darkness
came
over
all
the
land
until
the
ninth
hour.
34
And
at
the
ninth
hour
Jesus
cried
with
a
loud
voice,
saying,
Eloi,
Eloi,
lama
sabachthani?
(Which
being
translated
is,
"My
God,
My
God,
why
did
You
forsake
Me?")
Psa.
22:1
35
And
hearing,
some
of
those
standing
by
said,
Behold,
He
calls
Elijah.
36
And
one
running
up,
and
filling
a
sponge
with
"vinegar,"
and
putting
it
on
a
reed,
"gave
Him
to
drink."
But
they
said,
Leave
alone,
let
us
see
if
Elijah
comes
to
take
Him
down.
Psa.
69:21
37
And
letting
out
a
great
cry,
Jesus
expired.
38
And
the
veil
of
the
Holy
Place
was
torn
into
two,
from
top
to
bottom.
39
And
standing
off
across
from
Him,
seeing
that
He
had
cried
out
so,
and
He
expired,
the
centurion
said,
Truly,
this
Man
was
Son
of
God.
40
And
also
women
were
watching
from
a
distance,
among
whom
also
was
Mary
Magdalene;
also
Mary
the
mother
of
James
the
less,
and
of
Joses,
and
Salome,
41
who
also
followed
Him
and
ministered
to
Him
when
He
was
in
Galilee;
and
many
other
women
who
came
up
to
Jerusalem
with
Him.
42
And
it
becoming
evening
already,
since
it
was
the
preparation,
that
is,
the
day
before
sabbath,
43
Joseph
of
Arimathea
came,
an
honorable
councillor,
who
himself
was
also
waiting
for
the
kingdom
of
God.
And
taking
courage,
he
went
in
to
Pilate
and
begged
the
body
of
Jesus.
44
And
Pilate
marveled
if
He
had
already
died.
And
calling
the
centurion
near,
he
asked
him
if
He
died
already.
45
And
knowing
from
the
centurion,
he
granted
the
body
to
Joseph.
46
And
having
bought
a
linen
cloth,
and
having
taken
Him
down,
he
wrapped
Him
in
the
linen,
and
laid
Him
in
a
tomb
which
was
cut
out
of
rock.
And
he
rolled
a
stone
against
the
mouth
of
the
tomb.
47
And
Mary
Magdalene,
and
Mary
of
Joses,
saw
where
He
was
laid.
Luke 23:24
24
And
Pilate
adjudged
their
request
to
be
done.

1
As
soon
as
it
was
morning,
the
chief
priests
had
a
meeting
with
the
elders,
scribes,
and
the
whole
Sanhedrin.
After
tying
Jesus
up,
they
led
Him
away
and
handed
Him
over
to
Pilate.
2
So
Pilate
asked
Him,
"Are
You
the
King
of
the
Jews?"
He
answered
him,
"You
have
said
it."
3
And
the
chief
priests
began
to
accuse
Him
of
many
things.
4
Then
Pilate
questioned
Him
again,
"Are
You
not
answering
anything?
Look
how
many
things
they
are
accusing
You
of!"
5
But
Jesus
still
did
not
answer
anything,
so
Pilate
was
amazed.
6
At
the
festival
it
was
Pilate's
custom
to
release
for
the
people
a
prisoner
they
requested.
7
There
was
one
named
Barabbas,
who
was
in
prison
with
rebels
who
had
committed
murder
during
the
rebellion.
8
The
crowd
came
up
and
began
to
ask
Pilate
to
do
for
them
as
was
his
custom.
9
So
Pilate
answered
them,
"Do
you
want
me
to
release
the
King
of
the
Jews
for
you?"
10
For
he
knew
it
was
because
of
envy
that
the
chief
priests
had
handed
Him
over.
11
But
the
chief
priests
stirred
up
the
crowd
so
that
he
would
release
Barabbas
to
them
instead.
12
Pilate
asked
them
again,
"Then
what
do
you
want
me
to
do
with
the
One
you
call
the
King
of
the
Jews?"
13
Again
they
shouted,
"Crucify
Him!"
14
Then
Pilate
said
to
them,
"Why?
What
has
He
done
wrong?"
But
they
shouted,
"Crucify
Him!"
all
the
more.
15
Then,
willing
to
gratify
the
crowd,
Pilate
released
Barabbas
to
them.
And
after
having
Jesus
flogged,
he
handed
Him
over
to
be
crucified.
16
Then
the
soldiers
led
Him
away
into
the
courtyard
(that
is,
headquarters)
and
called
the
whole
company
together.
17
They
dressed
Him
in
a
purple
robe,
twisted
together
a
crown
of
thorns,
and
put
it
on
Him.
18
And
they
began
to
salute
Him,
"Hail,
King
of
the
Jews!"
19
They
kept
hitting
Him
on
the
head
with
a
reed
and
spitting
on
Him.
Getting
down
on
their
knees,
they
were
paying
Him
homage.
20
When
they
had
mocked
Him,
they
stripped
Him
of
the
purple
robe,
put
His
clothes
on
Him,
and
led
Him
out
to
crucify
Him.
21
They
forced
a
man
coming
in
from
the
country,
who
was
passing
by,
to
carry
Jesus'
cross.
He
was
Simon,
a
Cyrenian,
the
father
of
Alexander
and
Rufus.
22
And
they
brought
Jesus
to
the
place
called
Golgotha
(which
means
Skull
Place).
23
They
tried
to
give
Him
wine
mixed
with
myrrh,
but
He
did
not
take
it.
24
Then
they
crucified
Him
and
divided
His
clothes,
casting
lots
for
them
to
decide
what
each
would
get.
25
Now
it
was
nine
in
the
morning
when
they
crucified
Him.

Him,
shaking
their

The
One
who
would
demolish
the
sanctuary
and
build
it
in
three
days,
30
save
Yourself
by
coming
down
from
the
cross!"
31
In
the
same
way,
the
chief
priests
with
the
scribes
were
mocking
Him
to
one
another
and
saying,
"He
saved
others;
He
cannot
save
Himself!

Let
the
Messiah,
the
King
of
Israel,
come
down
now
from
the
cross,
so
that
we
may
see
and
believe."
Even
those
who
were
crucified
with
Him
were
taunting
Him.
33
When
it
was
noon,
darkness
came
over
the
whole
land
until
three
in
the
afternoon.
34
And
at
three
Jesus
cried
out
with
a
loud
voice,
"
Eloi,
Eloi,
lem

which
is
translated,

My
God,
My
God,
why
have
You

He's
calling
for
Elijah!"

ran
and
filled
a

offered
Him

"Let's
see
if
Elijah
comes
to
take
Him
down!"
37
But
Jesus
let
out
a
loud
cry
and
breathed
His
last.
38
Then
the
curtain
of
the
sanctuary
was
split
in
two

top

39
When
the
centurion,
who
was
standing
opposite
Him,
saw
the
way
He
breathed
His
last,
he
said,
"This
man
really
was
God's
Son!"

to
the

of

and
boldly
went
in
to
Pilate
and
asked
for
Jesus'

44
Pilate
was
surprised
that
He
was
already
dead.
Summoning
the
centurion,
he
asked
him
whether
He
had
already
died.
45
When
he
found
out
from
the
centurion,
he
gave
the

to
Joseph.

After
he
bought
some
fine

he
took
Him
