Luke 16:1 (AKJV) American King James Version

1 And he said also to his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused to him that he had wasted his goods.
2 And he called him, and said to him, How is it that I hear this of you? give an account of your stewardship; for you may be no longer steward.
3 Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord takes away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed.
4 I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.
5 So he called every one of his lord's debtors to him, and said to the first, How much owe you to my lord?
6 And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said to him, Take your bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty.
7 Then said he to another, And how much owe you? And he said, An hundred measures of wheat. And he said to him, Take your bill, and write fourscore.
8 And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.
9 And I say to you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when you fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.
10 He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.
11 If therefore you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?
12 And if you have not been faithful in that which is another man's, who shall give you that which is your own?
13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
14 And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.
15 And he said to them, You are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knows your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.
16 The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presses into it.
17 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one pronunciation mark of the law to fail.
18 Whoever puts away his wife, and marries another, commits adultery: and whoever marries her that is put away from her husband commits adultery.
19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and sees Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and you are tormented.
26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from there.
27 Then he said, I pray you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house:
28 For I have five brothers; that he may testify to them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
29 Abraham said to him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
30 And he said, No, father Abraham: but if one went to them from the dead, they will repent.
31 And he said to him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

4 I am resolved G1097 V-2AAI-1S what G5101 I-ASN to do G4160 V-FAI-1S , that G2443 CONJ , when G3752 CONJ I am put out G3179 V-APS-1S of G3588 T-GSF the G3588 T-GSF stewardship G3622 N-GSF , they may receive G1209 V-ADS-3P me G3165 P-1AS into G1519 PREP their G3588 T-APM houses G3624 N-APM .
5 So G2532 CONJ he called G4341 V-ADP-NSM every G1538 A-ASM one G1520 A-ASM of G3588 T-GSM his G3588 T-GSM lord G2962 N-GSM \'s debtors G5533 N-GPM unto him , and said G3004 V-IAI-3S unto the G3588 T-DSM first G4413 A-DSM , how much G4214 Q-ASN owest G3784 V-PAI-2S thou unto my G3588 T-DSM lord G2962 N-DSM ?
6 And G1161 CONJ he G3588 T-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , A hundred G1540 A-NUI measures G943 N-APM of oil G1637 N-GSN . And G2532 CONJ he said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , Take G1209 V-ADM-2S thy G3588 T-ASN bill G1121 N-ASN , and G2532 CONJ sit down G2523 V-AAP-NSM quickly G5030 ADV , and write G1125 V-AAM-2S fifty G4004 A-NUI .
7 Then G1899 ADV said G2036 V-2AAI-3S he to another G2087 A-DSM , And G1161 CONJ how much G4214 Q-ASN owest G3784 V-PAI-2S thou G4771 P-2NS ? And G1161 CONJ he G3588 T-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , A hundred G1540 A-NUI measures G2884 N-APM of wheat G4621 N-GSM . 8 And G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM lord G2962 N-NSM commended G1867 V-AAI-3S the G3588 T-GSF unjust G93 N-GSF steward G3623 N-ASM , because G3754 CONJ he had done G4160 V-AAI-3S wisely G5430 ADV : for G3754 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM children G5207 N-NPM of G3588 T-GSM this G3588 T-GSM world G165 N-GSM are G1526 V-PXI-3P in G1519 PREP their G3588 T-ASF generation G1074 N-ASF wiser G5429 A-NPM-C than G5228 PREP the G3588 T-APM children G5207 N-APM of light G5457 N-GSN .
9 And I G2504 P-1NS-C say G3004 V-PAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , Make G4160 V-AAM-2P to yourselves G1438 F-3DPM friends G5384 A-APM of G1537 PREP the G3588 T-GSN mammon G3126 ARAM of unrighteousness G93 N-GSF ; that G2443 CONJ , when G3752 CONJ ye fail G1587 V-2AAS-2P , they may receive G1209 V-ADS-3P you G5209 P-2AP into G1519 PREP everlasting G166 A-APF habitations G4633 N-APF .
10 He that is faithful G4103 A-NSM in G1722 PREP that which is least G1646 A-DSN is G2076 V-PXI-3S faithful G4103 A-NSM also G2532 CONJ in G1722 PREP much G4183 A-DSN : and G2532 CONJ he G3588 T-NSM that G3588 T-NSM is unjust G94 A-NSM in G1722 PREP the least G1646 A-DSN is G2076 V-PXI-3S unjust G94 A-NSM also G2532 CONJ in G1722 PREP much G4183 A-DSN .
11 If G1487 COND therefore G3767 CONJ ye have not G3756 PRT-N been G1096 V-2ADI-2P faithful G4103 A-NPF in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSN unrighteous G94 A-DSN mammon G3126 ARAM , who G5101 I-NSM will commit to your trust G4100 V-FAI-3S the G3588 T-ASN true G228 A-ASN riches ?
12 And G2532 CONJ if G1487 COND ye have not G3756 PRT-N been G1096 V-2ADI-2P faithful G4103 A-NPF in G1722 PREP that which is another man G245 A-DSM \'s , who G5101 I-NSM shall give G1325 V-FAI-3S you G3588 T-ASN that which is your own G5212 S-2APN ?
13 No G3762 A-NSM servant G3610 N-NSM can G1410 V-PNI-3S serve G1398 V-PAN two G1417 A-DPM masters G2962 N-DPM : for G1063 CONJ either G2228 PRT he will hate G3404 V-FAI-3S the G3588 T-ASM one G1520 A-ASM , and G2532 CONJ love G25 V-FAI-3S the G3588 T-ASM other G2087 A-ASM ; or else G2228 PRT he will hold to G472 V-FDI-3S the one G1520 A-GSM , and G2532 CONJ despise G2706 V-FAI-3S the G3588 T-GSM other G2087 A-GSM . Ye cannot G1410 V-PNI-2P serve G1398 V-PAN God G2316 N-DSM and G2532 CONJ mammon G3126 ARAM .
14 And G1161 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM Pharisees G5330 N-NPM also G2532 CONJ , who were G5225 V-PAP-NPM covetous G5366 A-NPM , heard G191 V-IAI-3P all G3956 A-APN these things G5023 D-APN : and G2532 CONJ they derided G1592 V-IAI-3P him G846 P-ASM .

17 And G1161 CONJ it is G2076 V-PXI-3S easier G2123 A-NSN-C for heaven G3772 N-ASM and G2532 CONJ earth G1093 N-ASF to pass G3928 V-2AAN , than G2228 PRT one G3391 tittle G2762 N-ASF of G3588 T-GSM the G3588 T-GSM law G3551 N-GSM to fail G4098 V-2AAN .
18 Whosoever G3588 T-NSM putteth away G630 V-PAP-NSM his G3588 T-ASF wife G1135 N-ASF , and G2532 CONJ marrieth G1060 V-PAP-NSM another G2087 A-ASF , committeth adultery G3431 V-PAI-3S : and G2532 CONJ whosoever G3956 A-NSM marrieth G1060 V-PAP-NSM her that is put away G630 V-RPP-ASF from G575 PREP her husband G435 N-GSM committeth adultery G3431 V-PAI-3S .

26 And G2532 CONJ beside G1909 PREP all G3956 A-DPN this G5125 D-DPN , between G3342 ADV us G2257 P-1GP and G2532 CONJ you G5216 P-2GP there is a great G3173 A-ASN gulf G5490 N-ASN fixed G4741 V-RPI-3S : so that G3588 T-NPM they which would G2309 V-PAP-NPM pass G1224 V-2AAN from hence G1782 to G4314 PREP you G5209 P-2AP cannot G1410 V-PNS-3P ; neither G3366 CONJ can they pass G1276 V-PAS-3P to G4314 PREP us G2248 P-1AP , that would come from thence G1564 ADV .
27 Then G1161 CONJ he said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , I pray G2065 V-PAI-1S thee G4571 P-2AS therefore G3767 CONJ , father G3962 N-VSM , that G2443 CONJ thou wouldest send G3992 V-AAS-2S him G846 P-ASM to G1519 PREP my G3588 T-GSM father G3962 N-GSM \'s house G3624 N-ASM :
28 For G1063 CONJ I have G2192 V-PAI-1S five G4002 A-NUI brethren G80 N-APM ; that G3704 ADV he may testify G1263 V-PNS-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , lest G3363 they G846 P-NPM also G2532 CONJ come G2064 V-2AAS-3P into G1519 PREP this G3588 T-ASM place G5117 N-ASM of torment G931 N-GSF .
29 Abraham G11 N-PRI saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , They have G2192 V-PAI-3P Moses G3475 N-ASM and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-APM prophets G4396 N-APM ; let them hear G191 V-AAM-3P them G846 P-GPM .
30 And G1161 CONJ he G3588 T-NSM said G2036 V-2AAI-3S , Nay G3780 PRT-N , father G3962 N-VSM Abraham G11 N-PRI : but G235 CONJ if G1437 COND one G5100 X-NSM went G4198 V-AOS-3S unto G4314 PREP them G846 P-APM from G575 PREP the dead G3498 A-GPM , they will repent G3340 V-FAI-3P .
31 And G1161 CONJ he said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto him G846 P-DSM , If they hear G191 V-PAI-3P not G3756 PRT-N Moses G3475 N-GSM and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-GPM prophets G4396 N-GPM , neither G3756 PRT-N will they be persuaded G3982 V-FPI-3P , though G3761 ADV one G5100 X-NSM rose G450 V-2AAS-3S from G1537 PREP the dead G3498 A-GPM .
