2 Kings 8 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 Elisha talked to the woman whose son he had brought back to life. He said, "You and your family should move to another country, because the Lord has decided that there will be a famine here. It will last for seven years."
2 So the woman did what the man of God said. She went with her family to stay in the land of the Philistines for seven years.
3 After seven years she returned from the land of the Philistines. She went to speak with the king to ask him to help her get back her house and land.
4 The king was talking with Gehazi, the servant of the man of God. The king said to Gehazi, "Please tell me all the great things Elisha has done."
5 Gehazi was telling the king about Elisha bringing a dead person back to life. At that same time the woman whose son Elisha brought back to life went to the king. She wanted to ask him to help her get back her house and land. Gehazi said, "My lord and king, this is the woman, and this is the son who Elisha brought back to life."
6 The king asked the woman what she wanted, and she told him. Then the king chose an officer to help her. The king said, "Give to the woman all that belongs to her. And give her all the harvest of her land from the day she left the country until now."
7 Elisha went to Damascus. King Ben- Hadad of Aram was sick. Someone told Ben- Hadad, "The man of God has come here."
8 Then the King Ben-Hadad said to Hazael, "Take a gift and go meet the man of God. Ask him to ask the Lord if I will get well from my sickness."
9 So Hazael went to meet Elisha. Hazael brought a gift with him. He brought all kinds of good things from Damascus. It took 40 camels to carry everything. Hazael came to Elisha and said, "Your follower, King Ben-Hadad of Aram sent me to you. He asks if he will get well from his sickness."
10 Then Elisha said to Hazael, "Go and tell Ben-Hadad, 'You will live.' But really the Lord told me, 'He will die.'"
11 Elisha began to stare. He stared for an embarrassingly long time. Then the man of God began to cry.
12 Hazael said, "Sir, why are you crying?" Elisha answered, "I am crying because I know the bad things you will do to the Israelites. You will burn their strong cities and kill their young men with swords. You will kill their babies and split open their pregnant women."
13 Hazael said, "I am not a powerful man! How can I do these great things?" Elisha answered, "The Lord showed me that you will be king over Aram."
14 Then Hazael left Elisha and went to his king. Ben-Hadad said to Hazael, "What did Elisha say to you?" He answered, "Elisha told me that you will live."
15 But the next day Hazael took a thick cloth and dipped it in water. Then he held it on Ben-Hadad's face until he died. Then Hazael became the new king.
16 Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat was the king of Judah. He began to rule in the fifth year that Joram son of Ahab was king of Israel.
17 Jehoram was 32 years old when he began to rule. He ruled eight years in Jerusalem.
18 But Jehoram lived as the kings of Israel and did what the Lord said was wrong. He lived as the people from Ahab's family, because his wife was Ahab's daughter.
19 But the Lord would not destroy Judah because of the promise to his servant David. The Lord had promised David that someone from his family would always be king.
20 In Jehoram's time Edom broke away from Judah's rule. The people of Edom chose a king for themselves.
21 Then Jehoram and all his chariots went to Zair. The Edomite army surrounded them, but Jehoram and his officers attacked them and escaped. Jehoram's soldiers all ran away and went home.
22 So the Edomites broke away from the rule of Judah. And they have been free from the rule of Judah until today. At the same time Libnah also broke away from Judah's rule.
23 All the things Jehoram did are written in the book, The History of the Kings of Judah.
24 Jehoram died and was buried with his ancestors in the City of David. Jehoram's son Ahaziah became the new king.
25 Ahaziah son of Jehoram became the king of Judah in the 12 year that Joram son of Ahab was king of Israel.
26 Ahaziah was 22 years old when he began to rule. He ruled one year in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Athaliah. She was the daughter of King Omri of Israel.
27 Ahaziah did what the Lord said was wrong. He did many bad things, just as the people from Ahab's family had done. He lived like this because his wife was from Ahab's family.
28 Joram was from Ahab's family. Ahaziah went with Joram to fight against King Hazael of Aram at Ramoth Gilead. The Arameans wounded Joram.
29 King Joram went back to Israel so that he could get well from those wounds. He went to the area of Jezreel. Ahaziah son of Jehoram was the king of Judah. Ahaziah went to Jezreel to see Joram.
1 Then spoke H1696 VPQ3MS Elisha H477 unto H413 PREP the woman H802 D-NFS , whose H834 RPRO son H1121 he had restored to life H2421 , saying H559 L-VQFC , Arise H6965 , and go H1980 thou H859 and thine household H1004 , and sojourn H1481 wheresoever H834 RPRO thou canst sojourn H1481 : for H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS hath called H7121 VQQ3MS for a famine H7458 ; and it shall also H1571 W-CONJ come H935 VQPMS upon H413 PREP the land H776 D-GFS seven H7651 MFS years H8141 .
2 And the woman H802 D-NFS arose H6965 , and did H6213 after the saying H1697 K-NMS of the man H376 NMS of God H430 D-EDP : and she H1931 PPRO-3FS went H1980 W-VQQ3FS with her household H1004 , and sojourned H1481 in the land H776 B-GFS of the Philistines H6430 TMS seven H7651 MFS years H8141 .
3 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS at the seven H7651 MFS years H8141 NFP \' end H7097 M-CMS , that the woman H802 D-NFS returned H7725 W-VQY3FS out of the land H776 M-NFS of the Philistines H6430 TMS : and she went forth H3318 to cry H6817 unto H413 PREP the king H4428 D-NMS for H413 PREP her house H1004 and for H413 PREP her land H7704 .
4 And the king H4428 talked H1696 VPPMS with H413 PREP Gehazi H1522 the servant H5288 of the man H376 NMS of God H430 D-EDP , saying H559 L-VQFC , Tell H5608 me , I pray thee H4994 IJEC , all H3605 NMS the great things H1419 that H834 RPRO Elisha H477 hath done H6213 VQQ3MS .
5 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , as he H1931 PPRO-3MS was telling H5608 the king H4428 how H834 RPRO he had restored a dead body to life H2421 , that , behold H2009 IJEC , the woman H802 D-NFS , whose H834 RPRO son H1121 he had restored to life H2421 , cried H6817 to H413 PREP the king H4428 D-NMS for H5921 PREP her house H1004 and for H5921 PREP her land H7704 . And Gehazi H1522 said H559 W-VQY3MS , My lord H113 , O king H4428 D-NMS , this H2063 DPRO is the woman H802 D-NFS , and this H2088 W-PMS is her son H1121 , whom H834 RPRO Elisha H477 restored to life H2421 .
6 And when the king H4428 D-NMS asked H7592 W-VQY3MS the woman H802 L-NFS , she told H5608 him . So the king H4428 D-NMS appointed H5414 W-VQY3MS unto her a certain H259 MMS officer H5631 , saying H559 L-VQFC , Restore H7725 all H3605 NMS that H834 RPRO was hers , and all H3605 NMS the fruits H8393 of the field H7704 D-NMS since the day H3117 M-NMS that she left H5800 the land H776 D-GFS , even until H5704 W-PREP now H6258 .
7 And Elisha H477 came H935 W-VQY3MS to Damascus H1834 ; and Ben H1130 - hadad the king H4428 NMS of Syria H758 EMS was sick H2470 ; and it was told H5046 him , saying H559 L-VQFC , The man H376 NMS of God H430 D-EDP is come H935 VQPMS hither H5704 PREP .
8 And the king H4428 D-NMS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Hazael H2371 , Take H3947 VQI2MS a present H4503 NFS in thine hand H3027 , and go H1980 , meet H7122 the man H376 NMS of God H430 D-EDP , and inquire H1875 of the LORD H3068 EDS by PREP him , saying H559 W-VQY3MS , Shall I recover H2421 of this disease H2483 ?
9 So Hazael H2371 went H1980 W-VQY3MS to meet H7122 him , and took H3947 W-VQY3MS a present H4503 NFS with H3027 him , even of every H3605 W-CMS good thing H2898 of Damascus H1834 , forty H705 MMP camels H1581 \' burden H4853 , and came H935 W-VQY3MS and stood H5975 W-VQY3MS before H6440 L-CMP-3MS him , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Thy son H1121 Ben H1130 - hadad king H4428 NMS of Syria H758 EMS hath sent H7971 me to H413 PREP-2MS thee , saying H559 W-VQY3MS , Shall I recover H2421 of this disease H2483 ?
10 And Elisha H477 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him , Go H1980 VQI2MS , say H559 W-VQY3MS unto him , Thou mayest certainly recover H2421 : howbeit the LORD H3068 EDS hath showed H7200 me that H3588 CONJ he shall surely die H4191 VQFA .
11 And he settled H5975 W-VHY3MS his countenance H6440 CMP-3MS steadfastly H7760 W-VQY3MS , until H5704 PREP he was ashamed H954 : and the man H376 NMS of God H430 wept H1058 .
12 And Hazael H2371 said H559 W-VQY3MS , Why H4069 IPRO weepeth H1058 my lord H113 ? And he answered H559 W-VQY3MS , Because H3588 CONJ I know H3045 VQY1MS the evil H7451 AFS that H834 RPRO thou wilt do H6213 VQY2MS unto the children H1121 L-CMP of Israel H3478 : their strongholds H4013 wilt thou set H7971 on fire H784 , and their young men H970 wilt thou slay H2026 with the sword H2719 , and wilt dash H7376 their children H5768 , and rip up H1234 their women with child H2030 .
13 And Hazael H2371 said H559 W-VQY3MS , But H3588 CONJ what H4100 IGAT , is thy servant H5650 a dog H3611 , that H3588 CONJ he should do H6213 VQY3MS this H2088 D-PMS great H1419 D-AMS thing H1697 D-NMS ? And Elisha H477 answered H559 W-VQY3MS , The LORD H3068 EDS hath showed H7200 me that thou shalt be king H4428 NMS over H5921 PREP Syria H758 .
14 So he departed H1980 W-VQY3MS from Elisha H477 , and came H935 W-VQY3MS to H413 his master H113 ; who said H559 W-VQY3MS to him , What H4100 IGAT said H559 W-VQY3MS Elisha H477 to thee ? And he answered H559 W-VQY3MS , He told H559 W-VQY3MS me that thou shouldest surely recover H2421 .
15 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS on the morrow H4283 , that he took H3947 W-VQY3MS a thick cloth H4346 , and dipped H2881 it in water H4325 BD-NMP , and spread H6566 it on H5921 PREP his face H6440 CMP-3MS , so that he died H4191 : and Hazael H2371 reigned H4427 in his stead H8478 .
16 And in the fifth H2568 MFS year H8141 of Joram H3141 the son H1121 of Ahab H256 king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 , Jehoshaphat H3092 being then king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 , Jehoram H3088 the son H1121 of Jehoshaphat H3092 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 began to reign H4427 .
17 Thirty H7970 MMP and two H8147 W-OFD years H8141 NFS old H1121 was H1961 VQQ3MS he when he began to reign H4427 ; and he reigned H4427 eight H8083 W-MFS years H8141 in Jerusalem H3389 .
18 And he walked H1980 W-VQY3MS in the way H1870 B-NMS of the kings H4428 CMP of Israel H3478 , as H834 K-RPRO did H6213 W-VQY3MS the house H1004 CMS of Ahab H256 : for H3588 CONJ the daughter H1323 CFS of Ahab H256 was H1961 VQP3FS his wife H802 L-NFS : and he did H6213 W-VQY3MS evil H7451 in the sight H5869 B-CMP of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
19 Yet the LORD H3068 EDS would H14 not H3808 W-NPAR destroy H7843 Judah H3063 for David H1732 MMS his servant H5650 \'s sake H4616 L-CONJ , as H834 K-RPRO he promised H559 him to give H5414 L-VQFC him always H3605 NMS a light H5216 , and to his children H1121 L-CMP-3MS .
20 In his days H3117 Edom H123 revolted H6586 from under H8478 M-CFS the hand H3027 CFS of Judah H3063 , and made H4427 a king H4428 NMS over H5921 PREP-3MP themselves .
21 So Joram H3141 went over H5674 W-VQY3MS to Zair H6811 , and all H3605 W-CMS the chariots H7393 with H5973 PREP-3MS him : and he H1931 PPRO-3MS rose H6965 by night H3915 GMS , and smote H5221 the Edomites H123 which compassed him about H5437 , and the captains H8269 CMP of the chariots H7393 : and the people H5971 fled H5127 into their tents H168 .
22 Yet Edom H123 revolted H6586 from under H8478 M-CFS the hand H3027 CFS of Judah H3063 unto H5704 PREP this H2088 D-PMS day H3117 D-AMS . Then H227 ADV Libnah H3841 revolted H6586 at the same H1931 time H6256 .
23 And the rest H3499 of the acts H1697 CMP of Joram H3141 , and all H3605 W-CMS that H834 RPRO he did H6213 VQQ3MS , are they H1992 PPRO-3MP not H3808 written H3789 in H5921 PREP the book H5612 CMS of the chronicles H1697 CMP of the kings H4428 of Judah H3063 ?
24 And Joram H3141 slept H7901 W-VQY3MS with H5973 PREP his fathers H1 , and was buried H6912 with H5973 PREP his fathers H1 in the city H5892 of David H1732 MMS : and Ahaziah H274 his son H1121 reigned H4427 in his stead H8478 .
25 In the twelfth H8147 MFS year H8141 B-CFS of Joram H3141 the son H1121 CMS of Ahab H256 king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 did Ahaziah H274 the son H1121 CMS of Jehoram H3088 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 begin to reign H4427 .
26 Two H8147 W-OFD and twenty H6242 years H8141 NFS old H1121 was Ahaziah H274 when he began to reign H4427 ; and he reigned H4427 one H259 OFS year H8141 in Jerusalem H3389 . And his mother H517 GFS-3MS \'s name H8034 W-CMS was Athaliah H6271 , the daughter H1323 CFS of Omri H6018 king H4428 NMS of Israel H3478 LMS .
27 And he walked H1980 W-VQY3MS in the way H1870 B-NMS of the house H1004 CMS of Ahab H256 , and did H6213 W-VQY3MS evil H7451 in the sight H5869 B-CMP of the LORD H3068 EDS , as did the house H1004 of Ahab H256 : for H3588 CONJ he H1931 PPRO-3MS was the son H2860 - in - law of the house H1004 CMS of Ahab H256 .
28 And he went H1980 W-VQY3MS with H854 PREP Joram H3141 the son H1121 of Ahab H256 to the war H4421 against H5973 PREP Hazael H2371 king H4428 NMS of Syria H758 EMS in Ramoth H7433 - gilead ; and the Syrians H761 wounded H5221 W-VHY3MP Joram H3141 .
29 And king H4428 NMS Joram H3141 went back H7725 to be healed H7495 in Jezreel H3157 of H4480 PREP the wounds H4347 which H834 RPRO the Syrians H761 had given H5221 him at Ramah H7414 , when he fought H3898 against H854 PREP Hazael H2371 king H4428 NMS of Syria H758 EMS . And Ahaziah H274 the son H1121 CMS of Jehoram H3088 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 went down H3381 VQQ3MS to see H7200 L-VQFC Joram H3141 the son H1121 CMS of Ahab H256 in Jezreel H3157 , because H3588 CONJ he H1931 PPRO-3MS was sick H2470 .
