Joshua 14:1 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the leaders of all the tribes of Israel decided what land to give to the people.
2 The Lord had commanded Moses long ago how he wanted the people to choose their land. The people of the nine and a half tribes threw lots to decide which land they would get.
3 Moses had already given the two and a half tribes their land east of the Jordan River. The tribe of Levi did not receive any land like the other tribes.
4 The descendants of Joseph had divided into two tribes— Manasseh and Ephraim. Each of these tribes received some land; the tribe of Levi was not given any land. They were given only some towns scattered throughout the other tribes and some fields around those towns for their animals.
5 The Lord had told Moses how to divide the land among the tribes of Israel. The Israelites divided the land the way the Lord had commanded.
6 One day some people from the tribe of Judah went to Joshua at Gilgal. One of them was Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite. Caleb said to Joshua, "You remember what the Lord said at Kadesh Barnea. The Lord was speaking to Moses, his servant. The Lord was talking about you and me.
7 Moses, the Lord's servant, sent me to look at the land where we were going. I was 40 years old at that time. When I came back, I told Moses what I thought about the land.
8 The other men who went with me told the people things that made them afraid. But I really believed that the Lord would allow us to take that land.
9 So that day Moses made a promise to me. He said, 'The land where you went will become your land. Your children will own that land forever. I will give you that land because you really believed in the Lord, my God.'
10 "Now the Lord has kept me alive for 45 more years—like he said he would. During that time we all wandered in the desert. Now, here I am, 85 years old.
11 I am still as strong today as I was the day Moses sent me out. I am as ready to fight as I was then.
12 So give me the hill country that the Lord promised me that day long ago. At that time you heard that the strong Anakites lived there and the cities were very big and well protected. But now, maybe the Lord will be with me, and I will take that land like the Lord said."
13 Joshua blessed Caleb son of Jephunneh. Joshua gave him the city of Hebron as his own.
14 And that city still belongs to the family of Caleb son of Jephunneh, the Kenizzite. That land still belongs to his people because he trusted and obeyed the Lord, God of Israel.
15 In the past that city was called Kiriath Arba. It was named for the greatest man among the Anakites—a man named Arba. After this there was peace in the land.

3 For H3588 CONJ Moses H4872 had given H5414 VQQ3MS the inheritance H5159 of two H8147 ONUM tribes H4294 and a half H2677 tribe H4294 on the other side H5676 M-CMS Jordan H3383 : but unto the Levites H3881 he gave H5414 VQQ3MS none H3808 ADV inheritance H5159 NFS among H8432 B-CMS-3MP them .
4 For H3588 CONJ the children H1121 of Joseph H3130 were H1961 VQQ3MP two H8147 ONUM tribes H4294 , Manasseh H4519 and Ephraim H669 : therefore they gave H5414 no H3808 W-NPAR part H2506 CMS unto the Levites H3881 in the land H776 B-NFS , save H518 PART cities H5892 GFP to dwell H3427 L-VQFC in , with their suburbs H4054 for their cattle H4735 and for their substance H7075 .
5 As H834 K-RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS commanded H6680 VPQ3MS Moses H4872 , so H3651 ADV the children H1121 of Israel H3478 did H6213 VQQ3MP , and they divided H2505 the land H776 D-GFS .
6 Then the children H1121 of Judah H3063 came H5066 unto H413 PREP Joshua H3091 in Gilgal H1537 : and Caleb H3612 the son H1121 of Jephunneh H3312 the Kenezite H7074 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him , Thou H859 PPRO-2MS knowest H3045 VQQ2MS the thing H1697 D-NMS that H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS said H1696 VPQ3MS unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 the man H376 NMS of God H430 D-EDP concerning H5921 PREP me and thee in Kadesh H6947 - barnea .
7 Forty H705 MMP years H8141 NFS old H1121 was I H595 PPRO-1MS when Moses H4872 the servant H5650 of the LORD H3068 EDS sent H7971 me from Kadesh H6947 - barnea to espy out H7270 the land H776 D-GFS ; and I brought H7725 him word H1697 VQPMS again as H834 K-RPRO it was in H5973 PREP mine heart H3824 CMS-1MS .
8 Nevertheless my brethren H251 that H834 RPRO went up H5927 with H5973 me made the heart H3820 NMS of the people H5971 melt H4529 : but I H595 W-PPRO-1MS wholly H4390 followed H310 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS my God H430 CMP-1MS .
9 And Moses H4872 swore H7650 on that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS , saying H559 L-VQFC , Surely H518 PART the land H776 D-GFS whereon H834 RPRO thy feet H7272 CFS-2MS have trodden H1869 shall be H1961 thine inheritance H5159 , and thy children H1121 \'s forever H5704 PREP , because H3588 CONJ thou hast wholly H4390 followed H310 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS my God H430 CMP-1MS .
10 And now H6258 W-ADV , behold H2009 IJEC , the LORD H3068 EDS hath kept me alive H2421 , as H834 RPRO he said H1696 , these H2088 DPRO forty H705 MMP and five H2568 years H8141 NFS , even since H227 the LORD H3068 EDS spoke H1696 VPQ3MS this H2088 D-PMS word H1697 D-NMS unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , while H834 RPRO the children of Israel H3478 wandered H1980 VQQ3MS in the wilderness H4057 : and now H6258 W-ADV , lo H2009 IJEC , I H595 PPRO-1MS am this day H3117 D-AMS fourscore H8084 W-MMP and five H2568 MFS years H8141 NFS old H1121 .
11 As yet H5750 I am as strong H2389 AMS this day H3117 B-NMS as H834 K-RPRO I was in the day H3117 B-NMS that Moses H4872 sent H7971 me : as my strength H3581 was then H227 ADV , even so is my strength H3581 now H6258 , for war H4421 , both to go out H3318 , and to come in H935 .
12 Now H6258 W-ADV therefore give H5414 me this H2088 D-PMS mountain H2022 , whereof H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS spoke H1696 VPQ3MS in that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS ; for H3588 CONJ thou H859 heardest H8085 VQQ2MS in that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 how H3588 CONJ the Anakims H6062 were there H8033 ADV , and that the cities H5892 were great H1419 and fenced H1219 : if H194 ADV so be the LORD H3068 EDS will be with H854 me , then I shall be able to drive them out H3423 , as H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS said H1696 VPQ3MS .
13 And Joshua H3091 blessed H1288 him , and gave H5414 W-VQQ3MS unto Caleb H3612 the son H1121 of Jephunneh H3312 Hebron H2275 for an inheritance H5159 .
14 Hebron H2275 therefore H3651 ADV became H1961 the inheritance H5159 of Caleb H3612 the son H1121 of Jephunneh H3312 the Kenezite H7074 unto H5704 PREP this H2088 D-PMS day H3117 D-AMS , because H3282 ADV that H834 RPRO he wholly H4390 VPQ3MS followed H310 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 LMS .
15 And the name H8034 W-CMS of Hebron H2275 before H6440 L-NMP was Kirjath H7153 - arba ; which Arba was a great H1419 D-AMS man H120 D-NMS among the Anakims H6062 . And the land H776 WD-GFS had rest H8252 from war H4421 .
