Hebrews 4 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 And we still have the promise that God gave those people. That promise is that we can enter his place of rest. So we should be very careful that none of you fails to get that promise.
2 Yes, the good news about it was told to us just as it was to them. But the message they heard did not help them. They heard it but did not accept it with faith.
3 Only we who believe it are able to enter God's place of rest. As God said, "I was angry and made a promise: 'They will never enter my place of rest.'" But God's work was finished from the time he made the world.
4 Yes, somewhere in the Scriptures he talked about the seventh day of the week. He said, "So on the seventh day God rested from all his work."
5 But in the Scripture above God said, "They will never enter my place of rest."
6 So the opportunity is still there for some to enter and enjoy God's rest. But those who first heard the good news about it did not enter, because they did not obey.
7 So God planned another special day. It is called "today." He spoke about that day through David a long time later using the words we quoted before: "If you hear God's voice today, don't be stubborn as you were in the past."
8 We know that Joshua did not lead the people into the place of rest that God promised. We know this because God spoke later about another day for rest.
9 This shows that the seventh-day rest for God's people is still to come.
10 God rested after he finished his work. So everyone who enters God's place of rest will also have rest from their own work like God did.
11 So let us try as hard as we can to enter God's place of rest. We must try hard so that none of us will be lost by following the example of those who refused to obey God.
12 God's word is alive and working. It is sharper than the sharpest sword and cuts all the way into us. It cuts deep to the place where the soul and the spirit are joined. God's word cuts to the center of our joints and our bones. It judges the thoughts and feelings in our hearts.
13 Nothing in all the world can be hidden from God. He can clearly see all things. Everything is open before him. And to him we must explain the way we have lived.
14 We have a great high priest who has gone to live with God in heaven. He is Jesus the Son of God. So let us continue to express our faith in him.
15 Jesus, our high priest, is able to understand our weaknesses. When Jesus lived on earth, he was tempted in every way. He was tempted in the same ways we are tempted, but he never sinned.
16 With Jesus as our high priest, we can feel free to come before God's throne where there is grace. There we receive mercy and kindness to help us when we need it.

2 For G1063 CONJ unto us G2532 CONJ was the gospel preached G2070 V-PXI-1P , as well as G2509 ADV unto them G2548 D-NPM-C : but G235 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM word G3056 N-NSM preached G189 N-GSF did not G3756 PRT-N profit G5623 V-AAI-3S them G1565 D-APM , not G3361 PRT-N being mixed with G4786 V-RPP-NSM faith G4102 N-DSF in them that heard G191 V-AAP-DPM it .
3 For G3588 T-NPM we which have believed G4100 V-AAP-NPM do enter G1525 V-PNI-1P into G1519 PREP rest G2663 N-ASF , as G2531 ADV he said G2046 V-RAI-3S , As G5613 ADV I have sworn G3660 V-AAI-1S in G1722 PREP my G3588 T-DSF wrath G3709 N-DSF , if G1487 COND they shall enter G1525 V-FDI-3P into G1519 PREP my G3588 T-ASF rest G2663 N-ASF : although G2543 CONJ the G3588 T-GPN works G2041 N-GPN were finished G1096 V-AOP-GPN from G575 PREP the foundation G2602 N-GSF of the world G2889 N-GSM .

5 And G2532 CONJ in G1722 PREP this G5129 D-DSM place again G3825 ADV , If G1487 COND they shall enter G1525 V-FDI-3P into G1519 PREP my G3588 T-ASF rest G2663 N-ASF .
6 Seeing G1893 CONJ therefore G3767 CONJ it remaineth G620 V-PPI-3S that some G5100 X-APM must enter G1525 V-2AAN therein G1519 PREP , and G2532 CONJ they to whom it was first preached G2097 V-APP-NPM entered not in V-2AAI-3P because G1223 PREP of unbelief G543 N-ASF :

8 For G1063 CONJ if G1487 COND Joshua G2424 N-NSM had given them rest G2664 V-AAI-3S , then would he not G3756 PRT-N afterward G3326 PREP have spoken G2980 V-IAI-3S of G4012 PREP another G243 A-GSF day G2250 N-GSF .
9 There remaineth G620 V-PPI-3S therefore G686 PRT a rest G4520 N-NSM to the G3588 T-DSM people G2992 N-DSM of God G2316 N-GSM .
10 For G1063 CONJ he that is entered G1525 V-2AAP-NSM into G1519 PREP his G3588 T-ASF rest G2663 N-ASF , he G846 P-NSM also G2532 CONJ hath ceased G2664 V-AAI-3S from G575 PREP his G3588 T-GPN own G848 works G2041 N-GPN , as G5618 ADV God G2316 N-NSM did from G575 PREP his G2398 A-GPN .
11 Let us labor G4704 V-AAS-1P therefore G3767 CONJ to enter G1525 V-2AAN into G1519 PREP that G3588 T-ASF rest G2663 N-ASF , lest G3363 any man G5100 X-NSM fall G4098 V-2AAS-3S after G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSN same G846 P-DSN example G5262 N-DSN of unbelief G543 N-GSF .
12 For G1063 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM word G3056 N-NSM of God G2316 N-GSM is quick G2198 V-PAP-NSM , and G2532 CONJ powerful G1756 A-NSM , and G2532 CONJ sharper G5114 A-NSM-C than G5228 PREP any G3956 A-ASF two G1366 A-ASF - edged sword G3162 N-ASF , piercing G1338 V-PNP-NSM even G2532 CONJ to G891 PREP the dividing asunder G3311 N-GSM of G5037 PRT soul G5590 N-GSF and G2532 CONJ spirit G4151 N-GSN , and G5037 PRT of the joints G719 N-GPM and G2532 CONJ marrow G3452 N-GPM , and G2532 CONJ is a discerner G2924 A-NSM of the thoughts G1761 N-GPF and G2532 CONJ intents G1771 N-GPF of the heart G2588 N-GSF .
13 Neither G2532 CONJ is G2076 V-PXI-3S there any creature G2937 N-NSF that is not manifest G852 A-NSF in his sight G1799 ADV : but G1161 CONJ all things G3956 A-NPN are naked G1131 A-NPN and G2532 CONJ opened G5136 V-RPP-NPN unto the G3588 T-DPM eyes G3788 N-DPM of him G846 P-GSM with G4314 PREP whom G3739 R-ASM we have to do G2254 P-1DP .
14 Seeing then G3767 CONJ that we have G2192 V-PAP-NPM a great G3173 A-ASM high priest G749 N-ASM , that is passed into G1330 V-2RAP-ASM the G3588 T-APM heavens G3772 N-APM , Jesus G2424 N-ASM the G3588 T-ASM Son G5207 N-ASM of God G2316 N-GSM , let us G3588 T-GSF hold fast G2902 V-PAS-1P our profession G3671 N-GSF .
15 For G1063 CONJ we have G2192 V-PAI-1P not G3756 PRT-N a high priest G749 N-ASM which cannot G1410 V-PNP-ASM be touched with the feeling of G4834 V-AAN our G3588 T-DPF infirmities G769 N-DPF ; but G1161 CONJ was in G2596 PREP all points G3956 A-APN tempted G3985 like as PREP we are , yet without G5565 ADV sin G266 N-GSF .
16 Let us therefore G3767 CONJ come G4334 V-PNS-1P boldly G3954 N-GSF unto the G3588 T-DSM throne G2362 N-DSM of grace G5485 N-GSF , that G2443 CONJ we may obtain G2983 V-2AAS-1P mercy G1656 N-ASM , and G2532 CONJ find G2147 V-2AAS-1P grace G5485 N-ASF to help in time of need G1519 PREP .
