Jeremiah 28 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 In the fifth month of the fourth year that Zedekiah was king of Judah, the prophet Hananiah son of Azzur spoke to me. Hananiah was from the town of Gibeon. Hananiah was in the Lord's Temple when he spoke to me. The priests and all the people were there also. This is what Hananiah said:
2 "The Lord All- Powerful, the God of the people of Israel, says: 'I will break the yoke that the king of Babylon has put on the people of Judah.
3 Before two years are over, I will bring back all the things that King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon took from the Lord's Temple. Nebuchadnezzar has carried those things to Babylon. But I will bring them back here to Jerusalem.
4 I will also bring the king of Judah, Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim, back to this place. And I will bring back all the people of Judah that Nebuchadnezzar forced to leave their homes and go to Babylon,' says the Lord. 'So I will break the yoke that the king of Babylon put on the people of Judah.'"
5 Then the prophet Jeremiah answered the prophet Hananiah. They were standing in the Temple of the Lord. The priests and all the people there could hear Jeremiah's answer.
6 Jeremiah said to Hananiah, "Amen! May the Lord do that. May the Lord make the message you say come true. May he bring the things of the Lord's Temple back to this place from Babylon. And may he bring all those who were forced to leave their homes back to this place.
7 "But listen to what I must say, Hananiah. Listen to what I say to all you people.
8 There were prophets long before you and I became prophets, Hananiah. They said that war, hunger, and terrible sicknesses would come to many countries and great kingdoms.
9 But the prophet who says that we will have peace must be tested to see if he was sent by the Lord. If his message comes true, people can know that he really was sent by the Lord."
10 Jeremiah was wearing a yoke around his neck. The prophet Hananiah took the yoke from Jeremiah's neck and broke it.
11 Then Hananiah spoke loudly so that all the people could hear him. He said, "This is what the Lord says: 'In the same way I will break the yoke of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. He put that yoke on all the nations of the world, but I will break it before two years are over.'" After Hananiah said that, Jeremiah left the Temple.
12 Then the message of the Lord came to Jeremiah. This happened after Hananiah had taken the yoke off Jeremiah's neck and had broken it.
13 This is what the Lord said to Jeremiah: "Go and tell Hananiah that this is what the Lord says: 'You have broken a wooden yoke, but I will make a yoke of iron in the place of the wooden yoke.
14 The Lord All-Powerful, the God of Israel, is the one saying this. I will put a yoke of iron on the necks of all these nations. I will do that to make them serve King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, and they will be slaves to him. I will even give Nebuchadnezzar control over the wild animals.'"
15 Then the prophet Jeremiah said to the prophet Hananiah, "Listen, Hananiah! The Lord did not send you. But you have made the people of Judah trust in lies.
16 So this is what the Lord says: 'Soon I will take you from this world, Hananiah. You will die this year, because you taught the people to turn against the Lord.'"
17 Hananiah died in the seventh month of that same year.
1 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS the same H1931 year H8141 , in the beginning H7225 of the reign H4467 of Zedekiah H6667 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 , in the fourth H7243 year H8141 , and in the fifth H2549 month H2320 BD-NMS , that Hananiah H2608 the son H1121 CMS of Azur H5809 the prophet H5030 , which H834 RPRO was of Gibeon H1391 , spoke H559 VQQ3MS unto H413 PREP-1MS me in the house H1004 B-CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , in the presence H5869 of the priests H3548 and of all H3605 W-CMS the people H5971 , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
2 Thus H3541 speaketh H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 , the God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 , saying H559 L-VQFC , I have broken H7665 the yoke H5923 of the king H4428 NMS of Babylon H894 .
3 Within H5750 B-ADV two full years H8141 NFD will I H589 PPRO-1MS bring again H7725 VHPMS into H413 PREP this H2008 place H4725 D-NMS all H3605 NMS the vessels H3627 of the LORD H3068 EDS \'s house H1004 CMS , that H834 RPRO Nebuchadnezzar H5019 king H4428 NMS of Babylon H894 LFS took away H3947 VQQ3MS from H4480 PREP this H2008 place H4725 D-NMS , and carried H935 them to Babylon H894 :
4 And I H589 PPRO-1MS will bring again H7725 VHPMS to H413 PREP this H2008 place H4725 D-NMS Jeconiah H3204 the son H1121 CMS of Jehoiakim H3079 king H4428 NMS of Judah H3063 , with all H3605 NMS the captives H1546 of Judah H3063 , that went H935 into Babylon H894 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS : for H3588 CONJ I will break H7665 the yoke H5923 of the king H4428 NMS of Babylon H894 .
5 Then the prophet H5030 Jeremiah H3414 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP the prophet H5030 Hananiah H2608 in the presence H5869 of the priests H3548 , and in the presence H5869 of all H3605 CMS the people H5971 that stood H5975 in the house H1004 B-CMS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS ,
6 Even the prophet H5030 Jeremiah H3414 said H559 W-VQY3MS , Amen H543 : the LORD H3068 EDS do H6213 VQY3MS so H3651 ADV : the LORD H3068 EDS perform H6965 thy words H1697 which H834 RPRO thou hast prophesied H5012 , to bring again H7725 L-VHFC the vessels H3627 of the LORD H3068 EDS \'s house H1004 CMS , and all H3605 W-CMS that is carried away captive H1473 , from Babylon H894 into H413 PREP this H2008 place H4725 D-NMS .
7 Nevertheless H389 ADV hear H8085 VQI2MS thou now H4994 IJEC this H2008 word H1697 D-NMS that H834 RPRO I H595 PPRO-1MS speak H1696 VQPMS in thine ears H241 , and in the ears H241 of all H3605 NMS the people H5971 D-NMS ;
8 The prophets H5030 that H834 RPRO have been H1961 VQQ3MP before H6440 L-CMP me and before H6440 thee of H4480 PREP old H5769 prophesied H5012 both against H413 PREP many H7227 AFP countries H776 , and against H5921 W-PREP great H1419 kingdoms H4467 , of war H4421 , and of evil H7451 , and of pestilence H1698 .
9 The prophet H5030 which H834 RPRO prophesieth H5012 of peace H7965 , when the word H1697 CMS of the prophet H5030 shall come to pass H935 B-VQFC , then shall the prophet H5030 be known H3045 , that H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS hath truly H571 sent H7971 him .
10 Then Hananiah H2608 the prophet H5030 took H3947 W-VQY3MS the yoke H4133 from off H5921 M-PREP the prophet H5030 Jeremiah H3414 \'s neck H6677 , and broke H7665 it .
11 And Hananiah H2608 spoke H559 W-VQY3MS in the presence H5869 of all H3605 NMS the people H5971 , saying H559 W-VQY3MS , Thus H3541 saith H559 W-VQY3MS the LORD H3068 EDS ; Even so H3602 ADV will I break H7665 the yoke H5923 of Nebuchadnezzar H5019 king H4428 NMS of Babylon H894 LFS from M-PREP the neck H6677 of all H3605 NMS nations H1471 D-NMP within the space of H5750 B-ADV two full years H8141 NFD . And the prophet H5030 Jeremiah H3414 went H1980 W-VQY3MS his way H1870 .
12 Then the word H1697 NMS of the LORD H3068 EDS came H1961 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Jeremiah H3414 the prophet , after that H310 PREP Hananiah H2608 the prophet H5030 had broken H7665 the yoke H4133 from off H5921 M-PREP the neck H6677 of the prophet H5030 Jeremiah H3414 , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
13 Go H1980 VQFA and tell H559 Hananiah H2608 , saying H559 L-VQFC , Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS ; Thou hast broken H7665 the yokes H4133 of wood H6086 NMS ; but thou shalt make H6213 for H8478 them yokes H4133 of iron H1270 NMS .
14 For H3588 CONJ thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 , the God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 ; I have put H5414 VQQ1MS a yoke H5923 of iron H1270 NMS upon H5921 PREP the neck H6677 of all H3605 NMS these H428 D-DPRO-3MP nations H1471 D-NMP , that they may serve H5647 Nebuchadnezzar H5019 king H4428 NMS of Babylon H894 LFS ; and they shall serve H5647 him : and I have given H5414 VQQ1MS him the beasts H2416 CFS of the field H7704 D-NMS also H1571 W-CONJ .
15 Then said H559 W-VQY3MS the prophet H5030 Jeremiah H3414 unto H413 PREP Hananiah H2608 the prophet H5030 , Hear H8085 VQI2MS now H4994 IJEC , Hananiah H2608 ; The LORD H3068 EDS hath not H3808 ADV sent H7971 thee ; but thou H859 W-PPRO-2MS makest this H2008 people H5971 to trust H982 in H5921 PREP a lie H8267 .
16 Therefore H3651 L-ADV thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS ; Behold H2009 , I will cast H7971 thee from off H5921 M-PREP the face H6440 CMP of the earth H127 D-NFS : this year H8141 thou H859 PPRO-2MS shalt die H4191 , because H3588 CONJ thou hast taught H1696 rebellion H5627 against H413 PREP the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
17 So Hananiah H2608 the prophet H5030 died H4191 W-VQY3MS the same H1931 year H8141 in the seventh H7637 month H2320 BD-NMS .
