Mark 8 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 Another time there were many people with Jesus. The people had nothing to eat. So he called his followers to him and said,
2 "I feel sorry for these people. They have been with me for three days, and now they have nothing to eat.
3 I should not send them home hungry. If they leave without eating, they will faint on the way home. Some of them live a long way from here."
4 Jesus' followers answered, "But we are far away from any towns. Where can we get enough bread to feed all these people?"
5 Then Jesus asked them, "How many loaves of bread do you have?" They answered, "We have seven loaves of bread."
6 Jesus told the people to sit on the ground. Then he took the seven loaves and gave thanks to God. He broke the bread into pieces and gave them to his followers. He told them to give the bread to the people, and they did as he said.
7 The followers also had a few small fish. Jesus gave thanks for the fish and told them to give the fish to the people.
8 They all ate until they were full. Then the followers filled seven baskets with the pieces of food that were left.
9 There were about 4000 men who ate. After they ate, Jesus told them to go home.
10 Then he went in a boat with his followers to the area of Dalmanutha.
11 The Pharisees came to Jesus and asked him questions. They wanted to test him. So they asked him to do a miracle as a sign from God.
12 Jesus sighed deeply and said, "Why do you people ask to see a miracle as a sign? I want you to know that no miracle will be done to prove anything to you."
13 Then Jesus left them and went in the boat to the other side of the lake.
14 The followers had only one loaf of bread with them in the boat. They forgot to bring more bread.
15 Jesus warned them, "Be careful! Guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod. "
16 The followers discussed the meaning of this. They said, "He said this because we have no bread."
17 Jesus knew that the followers were talking about this. So he asked them, "Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are you not able to understand?
18 Do you have eyes that can't see? Do you have ears that can't hear? Remember what I did before, when we did not have enough bread?
19 I divided five loaves of bread for 5000 people. Remember how many baskets you filled with pieces of food that were not eaten?" The followers answered, "We filled twelve baskets."
20 "And when I divided seven loaves of bread for 4000 people, how many baskets did you fill with the leftover pieces?" They answered, "We filled seven baskets."
21 Then he said to them, "You remember these things I did, but you still don't understand?"
22 Jesus and his followers came to Bethsaida. Some people brought a blind man to him and begged him to touch the man.
23 So Jesus held the blind man's hand and led him out of the village. Then he spit on the man's eyes. He laid his hands on him and asked, "Can you see now?"
24 The man looked up and said, "Yes, I see people. They look like trees walking around."
25 Again Jesus laid his hands on the man's eyes, and the man opened them wide. His eyes were healed, and he was able to see everything clearly.
26 Jesus told him to go home. He said, "Don't go into the town."
27 Jesus and his followers went to the towns in the area of Caesarea Philippi. While they were traveling, Jesus asked the followers, "Who do people say I am?"
28 They answered, "Some people say you are John the Baptizer. Others say you are Elijah. And others say you are one of the prophets. "
29 Then Jesus asked, "Who do you say I am?" Peter answered, "You are the Christ. "
30 Jesus told the followers, "Don't tell anyone who I am."
31 Then Jesus began to teach his followers that the Son of Man must suffer many things. He taught that the Son of Man would not be accepted by the older Jewish leaders, the leading priests, and the teachers of the law. He said that the Son of Man must be killed and then rise from death after three days.
32 Jesus told them everything that would happen. He did not keep anything secret. Peter took Jesus away from the other followers to talk to him alone. Peter criticized him for saying these things.
33 But Jesus turned and looked at his followers. Then he criticized Peter. He said to Peter, "Get away from me, Satan! You don't care about the same things God does. You care only about things that people think are important."
34 Then Jesus called the crowd and his followers to him. He said, "Any of you who want to be my follower must stop thinking about yourself and what you want. You must be willing to carry the cross that is given to you for following me.
35 Any of you who try to save the life you have will lose it. But you who give up your life for me and for the Good News will save it.
36 It is worth nothing for you to have the whole world if you yourself are lost.
37 You could never pay enough to buy back your life.
38 People today are so sinful. They have not been faithful to God. As you live among them, don't be ashamed of me and my teaching. If that happens, I will be ashamed of you when I come with the glory of my Father and the holy angels."

3 And G2532 CONJ if G1437 COND I send them away G630 V-AAS-1S fasting G3523 A-APM to G1519 PREP their own G848 houses G3624 N-ASM , they will faint G1590 V-FPI-3P by G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSF way G3598 N-DSF : for G1063 CONJ divers G5100 X-NPM of them G846 P-APM came G2240 from far G3113 ADV .
4 And G2532 CONJ his G3588 T-NPM disciples G3101 N-NPM answered G611 V-ADI-3P him G846 P-GSM , From whence G4159 ADV-I can G1410 V-FDI-3S a man G5100 X-NSM satisfy G5526 V-AAN these G5128 D-APM men with bread G740 N-GPM here G5602 ADV in G1909 PREP the wilderness G2047 N-GSF ?
5 And G2532 CONJ he asked G1905 V-IAI-3S them G846 P-APM , How many G4214 Q-APM loaves G740 N-APM have G2192 V-PAI-2P ye ? And G1161 CONJ they G3588 T-NPM said G2036 V-2AAI-3P , Seven G2033 A-NUI .
6 And G2532 CONJ he commanded G3853 V-AAI-3S the G3588 T-DSM people G3793 N-DSM to sit down G377 V-2AAN on G1909 PREP the G3588 T-GSF ground G1093 N-GSF : and G2532 CONJ he took G2983 V-2AAP-NSM the G3588 T-APM seven G2033 A-NUI loaves G740 N-APM , and gave thanks G2168 V-AAP-NSM , and broke G2806 V-AAI-3S , and G2532 CONJ gave G1325 V-IAI-3S to his G3588 T-DPM disciples G3101 N-DPM to G2443 CONJ set before G3908 V-2AAS-3P them ; and G2532 CONJ they did set them before G3908 V-AAI-3P the G3588 T-DSM people G3793 N-DSM .
7 And G2532 CONJ they had G2192 V-IAI-3P a few G3641 A-APN small fishes G2485 N-APN : and G2532 CONJ he blessed G2127 V-AAP-NSM , and commanded G2036 V-2AAI-3S to set them also before G3908 V-2AAN them .
8 So G1161 CONJ they did eat G5315 V-2AAI-3P , and G2532 CONJ were filled G5526 V-API-3P : and G2532 CONJ they took up G142 V-AAI-3P of the broken G2801 N-GPN meat that was left G4051 N-APN seven G2033 A-NUI baskets G4711 N-APF .
9 And G1161 CONJ they that had eaten G5315 V-2AAP-NPM were G2258 V-IXI-3P about G5613 ADV four thousand G5070 A-NPM : and G2532 CONJ he sent them away G630 V-AAI-3S .
10 And G2532 CONJ straightway G2112 ADV he entered G1684 V-2AAP-NSM into G1519 PREP a ship G4143 N-ASN with G3326 PREP his G3588 T-GPM disciples G3101 N-GPM , and came G2064 V-2AAI-3S into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-APN parts G3313 N-APN of Dalmanutha G1148 N-PRI .
11 And G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM Pharisees G5330 N-NPM came forth G1831 V-2AAI-3P , and G2532 CONJ began G756 V-ADI-3P to question with G4802 V-PAN him G846 P-DSM , seeking G2212 V-PAP-NPM of G3844 PREP him G846 P-GSM a sign G4592 N-ASN from G575 PREP heaven G3772 N-GSM , tempting G3985 V-PAP-NPM him G846 P-ASM .
12 And G2532 CONJ he sighed deeply G389 V-AAP-NSM in his G3588 T-DSN spirit G4151 N-DSN , and G2532 CONJ saith G3004 V-PAI-3S , Why G5101 I-NSN doth this G3588 T-NSF generation G1074 N-NSF seek after G1934 V-PAI-3S a sign G4592 N-ASN ? verily G281 HEB I say G3004 V-PAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , There G1487 COND shall no sign G4592 N-ASN be given G1325 V-FPI-3S unto this G3588 T-DSF generation G1074 N-DSF .
13 And G2532 CONJ he left G863 V-2AAP-NSM them G846 P-APM , and entering G1684 V-2AAP-NSM into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASN ship G4143 N-ASN again G3825 ADV departed G565 V-2AAI-3S to G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASN other side G4008 ADV .
14 Now G2532 CONJ the disciples had forgotten G1950 V-2ADI-3P to take G2983 V-2AAN bread G740 N-APM , neither G3756 PRT-N had G2192 V-IAI-3P they in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSN ship G4143 N-DSN with G3326 PREP them G1438 F-3GPM more than G1508 one G1520 A-ASM loaf G740 N-ASM .
15 And G2532 CONJ he charged G1291 V-IMI-3S them G846 P-DPM , saying G3004 V-PAP-NSM , Take heed G3708 V-PAM-2P , beware G991 V-PAM-2P of G575 PREP the G3588 T-GSF leaven G2219 N-GSF of G3588 T-GPM the G3588 T-GPM Pharisees G5330 N-GPM , and G2532 CONJ of G3588 T-GSF the G3588 T-GSF leaven G2219 N-GSF of Herod G2264 N-GSM .
16 And G2532 CONJ they reasoned G1260 V-INI-3P among themselves G240 C-APM , saying G3004 V-PAP-NPM , It is because G3754 CONJ we have G2192 V-PAI-1P no G3756 PRT-N bread G740 N-APM .
17 And G2532 CONJ when Jesus G2424 N-NSM knew G1097 V-2AAP-NSM it , he saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , Why G5101 I-ASN reason G1260 V-PNI-2P ye , because G3754 CONJ ye have G2192 V-PAI-2P no G3756 PRT-N bread G740 N-APM ? perceive G3539 V-PAI-2P ye not yet G3768 ADV , neither G3761 ADV understand G4920 V-PAI-2P ? have G2192 V-PAI-2P ye G3588 T-ASF your G3588 T-ASF heart G2588 N-ASF yet G2089 ADV hardened G4456 V-RPP-ASF ?
18 Having G2192 V-PAP-NPM eyes G3788 N-APM , see G991 V-PAI-2P ye not G3756 PRT-N ? and G2532 CONJ having G2192 V-PAP-NPM ears G3775 N-APN , hear G191 V-PAI-2P ye not G3756 PRT-N ? and G2532 CONJ do ye not G3756 PRT-N remember G3421 V-PAI-2P ?
19 When G3753 ADV I broke G2806 V-AAI-1S the G3588 T-APM five G4002 A-NUI loaves G740 N-APM among G1519 PREP five thousand G4000 A-APM , how many G4214 Q-APM baskets G2894 N-APM full G4134 A-APM of fragments G2801 N-GPN took ye up G142 V-AAI-2P ? They say G3004 V-PAI-3P unto him G846 P-DSM , Twelve G1427 A-NUI .
20 And G1161 CONJ when G3753 ADV the G3588 T-APM seven G2033 A-NUI among G1519 PREP four thousand G5070 A-APM , how many G4214 Q-GPN baskets G4711 N-GPF full G4138 N-APN of fragments G2801 N-GPN took ye G3588 T-NPM up G142 V-AAI-2P ? And G1161 CONJ they G3588 T-APM said G2036 V-2AAI-3P , Seven G2033 A-NUI .
21 And G2532 CONJ he said G3004 V-IAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , How G4459 ADV-I is it that ye do not G3756 PRT-N understand G4920 V-PAI-2P ?
22 And G2532 CONJ he cometh G2064 V-PNI-3S to G1519 PREP Bethsaida G966 N-PRI : and G2532 CONJ they bring G5342 V-PAI-3P a blind man G5185 A-ASM unto him G846 P-DSM , and G2532 CONJ besought G3870 V-PAI-3P him G846 P-ASM to G2443 CONJ touch G680 V-AMS-3S him G846 P-GSM .
23 And G2532 CONJ he took G1949 V-2ADP-NSM the G3588 T-GSM blind man G5185 A-GSM by the G3588 T-GSF hand G5495 N-GSF , and led G1806 V-2AAI-3S him G846 P-ASM out G1854 ADV of G3588 T-GSF the G3588 T-GSF town G2968 N-GSF ; and G2532 CONJ when he had spit G4429 V-AAP-NSM on G1519 PREP his G3588 T-APN eyes G3659 N-APN , and put his hands upon G2007 V-2AAP-NSM him G846 P-DSM , he asked G1905 V-IAI-3S him G846 P-ASM if he saw aught G1536 .
24 And G2532 CONJ he looked up G308 V-AAP-NSM , and said G3004 V-IAI-3S , I G3588 T-APM see G991 V-PAI-1S men G444 N-APM as G5613 ADV trees G1186 N-APN , walking G4043 V-PAP-APM .
25 After that G1534 ADV he G3588 T-APF put G2007 V-AAI-3S his hands G5495 N-APF again G3825 ADV upon G1909 PREP his G3588 T-APM eyes G3788 N-APM , and G2532 CONJ made G4160 V-AAI-3S him G846 P-ASM look up G308 V-AAN : and G2532 CONJ he was restored G600 V-API-3S , and G2532 CONJ saw G1689 V-AAI-3S every man G537 A-APM clearly G5081 ADV .
26 And G2532 CONJ he sent him away G649 V-AAI-3S to G1519 PREP his G3588 T-ASM house G3624 N-ASM , saying G3004 V-PAP-NSM , Neither G3366 CONJ go G1525 V-2AAS-2S into G1519 PREP the G3588 T-ASF town G2968 N-ASF , nor G3366 CONJ tell G2036 V-2AAS-2S it to any G5100 X-DSM in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSF town G2968 N-DSF .

29 And G2532 CONJ he G846 P-NSM saith G3004 V-PAI-3S unto them G846 P-DPM , But G1161 CONJ whom G5101 I-ASM say G3004 V-PAI-2P ye G5210 P-2NP that I G3165 P-1AS am ? 30 And G2532 CONJ he charged G2008 V-AAI-3S them G846 P-DPM that G2443 CONJ they should tell G3004 V-PAS-3P no man G3367 A-DSM of G4012 PREP him G846 P-GSM .
31 And G2532 CONJ he began G756 V-ADI-3S to teach G1321 V-PAN them G846 P-APM , that G3754 CONJ the G3588 T-ASM Son G5207 N-ASM of man G444 N-GSM must G1163 V-PQI-3S suffer G3958 V-2AAN many things G4183 A-APN , and G2532 CONJ be rejected G593 V-APN of G575 PREP the G3588 T-GPM elders G4245 A-GPM , and G2532 CONJ of G3588 T-GPM the chief priests G749 N-GPM , and G2532 CONJ scribes G1122 N-GPM , and G2532 CONJ be killed G615 V-APN , and G2532 CONJ after G3326 PREP three G5140 A-APF days G2250 N-APF rise again G450 V-2AAN .
32 And G2532 CONJ he G3588 T-ASM spake G2980 V-IAI-3S that saying G3056 N-ASM openly G3954 N-DSF . And G2532 CONJ Peter G4074 N-NSM took G4355 V-2AMP-NSM him G846 P-ASM , and began G756 V-ADI-3S to rebuke G2008 V-PAN him G846 P-DSM .
33 But G1161 CONJ when he G3588 T-NSM had turned about G1994 V-2APP-NSM and G2532 CONJ looked on G1492 V-2AAP-NSM his G3588 T-APM disciples G3101 N-APM , he G3588 T-DSM rebuked G2008 V-AAI-3S Peter G4074 N-DSM , saying G3004 V-PAP-NSM , Get G5217 V-PAM-2S thee behind G3694 ADV me G3450 P-1GS , Satan G4567 N-VSM : for G3754 CONJ thou savorest G5426 V-PAI-2S not G3756 PRT-N the things G3588 T-APM that be of God G2316 N-GSM , but G235 CONJ the things G3588 T-DSM that be of men G444 N-GPM .
34 And G2532 CONJ when he had called G4341 V-ADP-NSM the G3588 T-ASM people G3793 N-ASM unto him with G4862 PREP his G3588 T-DPM disciples G3101 N-DPM also , he said G2036 V-2AAI-3S unto them G846 P-GSM , Whosoever G3748 R-NSM will G2309 V-PAI-3S come G2064 after G3694 ADV me G3450 P-1GS , let him deny G533 V-ADM-3S himself G1438 F-3ASM , and G2532 CONJ take up G142 V-AAM-3S his G3588 T-ASM cross G4716 N-ASM , and G2532 CONJ follow G190 V-PAN me G3427 P-1DS .
35 For G1063 CONJ whosoever G3739 R-NSM will G2309 V-PAS-3S save G4982 V-AAN his G3588 T-ASF life G5590 N-ASF shall lose G622 V-FAI-3S it G846 P-GSM ; but G1161 CONJ whosoever G3739 R-NSM shall lose G622 V-AAS-3S his G848 life G5590 N-ASF for my sake G1752 ADV and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-GSN gospel G2098 N-GSN \'s , the same G3778 D-NSM shall save G4982 V-FAI-3S it G846 P-ASF .
36 For G1063 CONJ what G5101 I-ASN shall it profit G5623 V-FAI-3S a man G444 N-ASM , if G1437 COND he shall gain G2770 V-AAS-3S the G3588 T-ASM whole G3650 A-ASM world G2889 N-ASM , and G2532 CONJ lose G2210 V-APS-3S his G3588 T-ASF own G848 soul G5590 N-ASF ?
37 Or G2228 PRT what G5101 I-ASN shall a man G444 N-NSM give G1325 V-FAI-3S in exchange G465 N-ASN for G3588 T-GSF his G3588 T-GSF soul G5590 N-GSF ?
38 Whosoever G302 therefore G1063 CONJ shall be ashamed G1870 V-AOS-3S of me G3165 P-1AS and G2532 CONJ of my G1699 S-1APM words G3056 N-APM in G1722 PREP this G3588 T-DSF adulterous G3428 N-DSF and G2532 CONJ sinful G268 A-DSF generation G1074 N-DSF ; of him G846 P-ASM also G2532 CONJ shall the G3588 T-NSM Son G5207 N-NSM of man G444 N-GSM be ashamed G1870 V-FOI-3S , when G3752 CONJ he cometh G2064 V-2AAS-3S in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSF glory G1391 N-DSF of G3588 T-GSM his G3588 T-GSM Father G3962 N-GSM with G3326 PREP the G3588 T-GPM holy G40 A-GPM angels G32 N-GPM .
