Leviticus 22 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 The Lord God said to Moses,
2 "Tell Aaron and his sons: The Israelites will give me gifts and these gifts will become holy. They are mine, so you priests must not take these things. If you use these holy things for yourselves, you will show that you don't respect my holy name. I am the Lord.
3 If any one of your descendants touches these things, that person will become unclean. That person must be separated from me. The Israelites gave these things to me. I am the Lord.
4 "If any of Aaron's descendants has one of the bad skin diseases or a discharge, he cannot eat the holy food until he becomes clean. This rule is for any priest who becomes unclean. That priest can become unclean from a dead body or from his own semen.
5 He can also become unclean if he touches any unclean crawling animals. And he can become unclean if he touches an unclean person. It doesn't matter what made that person unclean.
6 If he touches any of these things, he will become unclean until evening. He must not eat any of the holy food. Even if he washes with water, he cannot eat the holy food.
7 He will be clean only after the sun goes down. Then he can eat the holy food because it is his share.
8 "A priest must not eat any animal that died by itself or that was killed by wild animals. If he eats that animal, he will be unclean. I am the Lord.
9 "The priests must be very careful when it comes time to serve me. They must be careful not to dishonor the holy things. If they are careful, they will not die. I, the Lord, have separated them from the rest of the people for this special job.
10 Only a priest's family can eat the holy food. A visitor staying with the priest or a hired worker must not eat any of the holy food.
11 But if the priest buys a person as a slave with his own money, that person may eat some of the holy things. Slaves who were born in the priest's house may also eat some of the priest's food.
12 A priest's daughter might marry a man who is not a priest. If she does that, she cannot eat any of the holy offerings.
13 A priest's daughter might become a widow, or she might be divorced. If she does not have any children to support her, and she goes back to her father's house where she lived as a child, she can eat some of her father's food. But only people from a priest's family can eat this food.
14 "Whoever eats some of the holy food by mistake must give the priest the price of that food and add another fifth of the price as a fine.
15 "The Israelites will give gifts to the Lord. These gifts become holy, so the priests must not treat them like they are not important.
16 If they do, they are guilty of doing wrong, and they must bear the responsibility for their guilt. I am the Lord, and I make them holy."
17 The Lord God said to Moses,
18 "Tell Aaron and his sons and all the Israelites: A citizen of Israel or a foreigner might want to bring an offering. It might be because of a promise that person made, or it might just be a special sacrifice that person wanted to bring.
19 These are gifts that the people bring because they really want to give a gift to God. If the gift is a bull, or a sheep, or a goat, the animal must be a male. And it must not have anything wrong with it. You must not accept any offering that has anything wrong with it. I will not accept that gift.

21 "You might bring a fellowship offering to the Lord. That fellowship offering might be payment for a special promise that you made. Or maybe it is a special gift that you wanted to give to the Lord. It can be a bull or a sheep, but it must be healthy. There must be nothing wrong with that animal.
22 You must not offer to the Lord any animal that is blind, that has broken bones or is crippled, that has a discharge or a bad skin disease. You must not offer sick animals as a gift to the Lord. You must not put anything like that on his altar.
23 "Sometimes a bull or lamb will have a leg that is too long, or a foot that did not grow right. If you want to give that animal as a special gift to the Lord, it will be accepted. But it will not be accepted as payment for a special promise that you made.
24 "If an animal has bruised, crushed, or torn testicles, you must not offer that animal to the Lord.
25 "You must not take animals from foreigners as sacrifices to the Lord. The animals might have been hurt in some way. They might have something wrong with them, so they will not be accepted."
26 The Lord said to Moses,
27 "When a calf, or a sheep, or a goat is born, it must stay seven days with its mother. Then from the eighth day on, this animal will be accepted as a sacrifice offered as a gift to the Lord.
28 But you must not kill the animal and its mother on the same day. This rule is the same for cattle and sheep.
29 "If you want to offer some special offering of thanks to the Lord, you are free to offer that gift. But you must do it in a way that pleases God.
30 You must eat the whole animal that day. You must not leave any of the meat for the next morning. I am the Lord.
31 "Remember my commands, and obey them. I am the Lord.
32 Show respect for my holy name. I must be very special to the Israelites. I, the Lord, have made you my special people.
33 I brought you out of Egypt in order to be your God. I am the Lord."

3 Say H559 unto H413 PREP them , Whosoever H376 NMS he be of all H3605 NMS your seed H2233 CMS-2MP among your generations H1755 , that H834 RPRO goeth H7126 unto H413 PREP the holy things H6944 , which H834 RPRO the children H1121 of Israel H3478 hallow H6942 unto the LORD H3068 L-EDS , having his uncleanness H2932 upon H5921 PREP-3MS him , that H1931 D-PPRO-3FS soul H5315 D-NFS shall be cut off H3772 from my presence H6440 : I H589 PPRO-1MS am the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
4 What man soever H376 NMS of the seed H2233 of Aaron H175 is a leper H6879 , or H176 CONJ hath a running issue H2100 ; he shall not H3808 NADV eat H398 VQY3MS of the holy things H6944 , until H5704 PREP he be clean H2891 . And whoso toucheth H5060 any thing H3605 B-CMS that is unclean H2931 by the dead H5315 GFS , or H176 CONJ a man H376 NMS whose H834 RPRO seed H7902 goeth H3318 from H4480 M-PREP-3MS him ;
5 Or H176 CONJ whosoever H376 NMS toucheth H5060 VQY3MS any H3605 B-CMS creeping thing H8318 , whereby H834 RPRO he may be made unclean H2930 , or H176 CONJ a man H120 of whom H834 RPRO he may take uncleanness H2930 , whatsoever H3605 uncleanness H2932 he hath ;
6 The soul H5315 GFS which H834 RPRO hath touched H5060 VQY3FS any such shall be unclean H2930 until H5704 PREP even H6153 , and shall not H3808 W-NPAR eat H398 VQY3MS of H4480 PREP the holy things H6944 , unless H518 PART he wash H7364 his flesh H1320 CMS-3MS with water H4325 .
7 And when the sun H8121 D-NMS is down H935 , he shall be clean H2891 , and shall afterward H310 W-ADV eat H398 VQY3MS of H4480 PREP the holy things H6944 ; because H3588 CONJ it H1931 PPRO-3MS is his food H3899 CMS-3MS .
8 That which dieth of itself H5038 , or is torn H2966 with beasts , he shall not H3808 NADV eat H398 VQY3MS to defile H2930 himself therewith : I H589 PPRO-1MS am the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
9 They shall therefore keep H8104 mine ordinance H4931 , lest H3808 W-NPAR they bear H5375 VQY3MP sin H2399 for H5921 PREP-3MS it , and die H4191 therefore , if H3588 CONJ they profane H2490 it : I H589 PPRO-1MS the LORD H3068 EDS do sanctify H6942 them .
10 There shall no H3808 NADV stranger H2114 VQPMS eat H398 VQY3MS of the holy thing H6944 : a sojourner H8453 of the priest H3548 , or a hired servant H7916 , shall not H3808 NADV eat H398 VQY3MS of the holy thing H6944 .
11 But if H3588 CONJ the priest H3548 buy H7069 any soul H5315 GFS with his money H7075 , he H1931 PPRO-3MS shall eat H398 VQY3MS of it , and he that is born H3211 in his house H1004 NMS-3MS : they H1992 PPRO-3MP shall eat H398 of his meat H3899 .
12 If H3588 CONJ the priest H3548 \'s daughter H1323 also be H1961 married unto a stranger H2114 VQPMS , she H1931 PPRO-3FS may not H3808 NADV eat H398 of an offering H8641 of the holy things H6944 .
13 But if H3588 CONJ the priest H3548 \'s daughter H1323 be H1961 a widow H490 NFS , or divorced H1644 , and have no H369 NPAR child H2233 , and is returned H7725 unto H413 PREP her father H1 \'s house H1004 CMS , as in her youth H5271 , she shall eat H398 VQY3FS of her father\'s meat H3899 : but there shall no H3605 W-CMS stranger H2114 VQPMS eat H398 VQY3MS thereof .
14 And if H3588 CONJ a man H376 W-NMS eat H398 VQY3MS of the holy thing H6944 unwittingly H7684 , then he shall put H3254 the fifth H2549 part thereof unto H5921 PREP-3MS it , and shall give H5414 W-VQQ3MS it unto the priest H3548 with the holy thing H6944 .
15 And they shall not H3808 W-NPAR profane H2490 the holy things H6944 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , which H834 RPRO they offer H7311 unto the LORD H3068 ;
16 Or suffer them to bear H5375 the iniquity H5771 of trespass H819 , when they eat H398 their holy things H6944 : for H3588 CONJ I H589 PPRO-1MS the LORD H3068 EDS do sanctify H6942 them .
17 And the LORD H3068 EDS spoke H1696 W-VPY3MS unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , saying H559 ,
18 Speak H1696 VPFC unto H413 PREP Aaron H175 , and to H413 W-PREP his sons H1121 CMP-3MS , and unto H413 W-PREP all H3605 NMS the children H1121 CMP-3MS of Israel H3478 , and say H559 unto H413 PREP-3MS them , Whatsoever H376 NMS he be of the house H1004 of Israel H3478 , or of H4480 W-PREP the strangers H1616 in Israel H3478 , that H834 RPRO will offer H7126 his oblation H7133 for all H3605 NMS his vows H5088 , and for all H3605 NMS his freewill offerings H5071 , which H834 RPRO they will offer H7126 unto the LORD H3068 L-EDS for a burnt offering H5930 ;
19 Ye shall offer at your own will H7522 a male H2145 NMS without blemish H8549 AMS , of the beefs H1241 , of the sheep H3775 , or of the goats H5795 .
20 But whatsoever H3605 NMS hath a blemish H3971 , that shall ye not H3808 NADV offer H7126 : for H3588 CONJ it shall not H3808 NADV be H1961 VQY3MS acceptable H7522 for you .
21 And whosoever H376 W-NMS offereth H7126 a sacrifice H2077 of peace offerings H8002 unto the LORD H3068 L-EDS to accomplish H6381 his vow H5088 , or H176 CONJ a freewill offering H5071 in beefs H1241 or H176 CONJ sheep H6629 , it shall be H1961 VQY3MS perfect H8549 AMS to be accepted H7522 ; there shall be H1961 VQY3MS no H3808 NADV blemish H3971 therein .
22 Blind H5788 , or H176 CONJ broken H7665 , or H176 CONJ maimed H2782 , or H176 CONJ having a wen H2990 , or H176 CONJ scurvy H1618 , or H176 CONJ scabbed H3217 , ye shall not H3808 NADV offer H7126 these H428 PMP unto the LORD H3068 L-EDS , nor H3808 NADV make H5414 an offering by fire H801 of H4480 them upon H5921 PREP the altar H4196 D-NMS unto the LORD H3068 .
23 Either a bullock H7794 or a lamb H7716 that hath any thing superfluous H8311 or lacking in his parts H7038 , that mayest thou offer H6213 VQY2MS for a freewill offering H5071 ; but for a vow H5088 it shall not H3808 NADV be accepted H7521 .
24 Ye shall not H3808 NADV offer H7126 unto the LORD H3068 L-EDS that which is bruised H4600 , or crushed H3807 , or broken H5423 , or cut H3772 ; neither H3808 NADV shall ye make H6213 any offering thereof in your land H776 .
25 Neither H3808 NADV from a stranger\'s hand H3027 WM-GFS shall ye offer H7126 the bread H3899 NMS of your God H430 of any H3605 M-CMS of these H428 PMP ; because H3588 CONJ their corruption H4893 is in them , and blemishes H3971 be in them : they shall not H3808 NADV be accepted H7521 for you .
26 And the LORD H3068 EDS spoke H1696 W-VPY3MS unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , saying H559 ,
27 When H3588 CONJ a bullock H7794 CMS , or H176 CONJ a sheep H3775 , or H176 CONJ a goat H5795 , is brought forth H3205 , then it shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS seven H7651 RMS days H3117 NMP under H8478 NMS the dam H517 GFS-3MS ; and from the eighth day H3117 and thenceforth H1973 it shall be accepted H7521 for an offering H7133 made by fire H801 unto the LORD H3068 .
28 And whether it be cow H7794 or H176 CONJ ewe H7716 , ye shall not H3808 NADV kill H7819 it and her young H1121 CMS-3MS both in one H259 ONUM day H3117 B-NMS .
29 And when H3588 ye will offer H2076 a sacrifice H2077 of thanksgiving H8426 NFS unto the LORD H3068 L-EDS , offer H2076 it at your own will H7522 .
30 On the same H1931 D-PPRO-3MS day H3117 B-AMS it shall be eaten up H398 ; ye shall leave H3498 none H3808 ADV of H4480 M-PREP-3MS it until H5704 PREP the morrow H1242 NMS : I H589 PPRO-1MS am the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
31 Therefore shall ye keep H8104 my commandments H4687 , and do H6213 them : I H589 PPRO-1MS am the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
32 Neither H3808 W-NPAR shall ye profane H2490 my holy H6944 name H8034 CMS ; but I will be hallowed H6942 among H8432 B-NMS the children H1121 of Israel H3478 : I H589 PPRO-1MS am the LORD H3068 EDS which hallow H6942 you ,
33 That brought you out H3318 of the land H776 M-NFS of Egypt H4714 EFS , to be H1961 your God H430 : I H589 PPRO-1MS am the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
