Jeremiah 23:21 (KJV) King James Version

1 Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD.
2 Therefore thus saith the LORD God of Israel against the pastors that feed my people; Ye have scattered my flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the LORD.
3 And I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase.
4 And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, saith the LORD.
5 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.
6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
7 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that they shall no more say, The LORD liveth, which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
8 But, The LORD liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries whither I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land.
9 Mine heart within me is broken because of the prophets; all my bones shake; I am like a drunken man, and like a man whom wine hath overcome, because of the LORD, and because of the words of his holiness.
10 For the land is full of adulterers; for because of swearing the land mourneth; the pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up, and their course is evil, and their force is not right.
11 For both prophet and priest are profane; yea, in my house have I found their wickedness, saith the LORD.
12 Wherefore their way shall be unto them as slippery ways in the darkness: they shall be driven on, and fall therein: for I will bring evil upon them, even the year of their visitation, saith the LORD.
13 And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied in Baal, and caused my people Israel to err.
14 I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.
15 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts concerning the prophets; Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall: for from the prophets of Jerusalem is profaneness gone forth into all the land.
16 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD.
17 They say still unto them that despise me, The LORD hath said, Ye shall have peace; and they say unto every one that walketh after the imagination of his own heart, No evil shall come upon you.
18 For who hath stood in the counsel of the LORD, and hath perceived and heard his word? who hath marked his word, and heard it?
19 Behold, a whirlwind of the LORD is gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind: it shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked.
20 The anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have executed, and till he have performed the thoughts of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it perfectly.
21 I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.
22 But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.
23 Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off?
24 Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.
25 I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed.
26 How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart;
27 Which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal.
28 The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? saith the LORD.
29 Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?
30 Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that steal my words every one from his neighbour.
31 Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that use their tongues, and say, He saith.
32 Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD.
33 And when this people, or the prophet, or a priest, shall ask thee, saying, What is the burden of the LORD? thou shalt then say unto them, What burden? I will even forsake you, saith the LORD.
34 And as for the prophet, and the priest, and the people, that shall say, The burden of the LORD, I will even punish that man and his house.
35 Thus shall ye say every one to his neighbour, and every one to his brother, What hath the LORD answered? and, What hath the LORD spoken?
36 And the burden of the LORD shall ye mention no more: for every man’s word shall be his burden; for ye have perverted the words of the living God, of the LORD of hosts our God.
37 Thus shalt thou say to the prophet, What hath the LORD answered thee? and, What hath the LORD spoken?
38 But since ye say, The burden of the LORD; therefore thus saith the LORD; Because ye say this word, The burden of the LORD, and I have sent unto you, saying, Ye shall not say, The burden of the LORD;
39 Therefore, behold, I, even I, will utterly forget you, and I will forsake you, and the city that I gave you and your fathers, and cast you out of my presence:
40 And I will bring an everlasting reproach upon you, and a perpetual shame, which shall not be forgotten.

2 Therefore H3651 L-ADV thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 against H5921 PREP the pastors H7462 that feed H7462 my people H5971 ; Ye H859 PPRO-2MS have scattered H6327 my flock H6629 , and driven them away H5080 , and have not H3808 W-NPAR visited H6485 them : behold H2009 , I will visit H6485 upon H5921 PREP-2MP you the evil H7455 of your doings H4611 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
3 And I H589 W-PPRO-1MS will gather H6908 the remnant H7611 of my flock H6629 out of all H3605 M-CMS countries H776 whither H834 RPRO I have driven H5080 them , and will bring them again H7725 to H5921 PREP their folds H5116 ; and they shall be fruitful H6509 W-VQQ3MP and increase H7235 .
4 And I will set up H6965 W-VHQ1MS shepherds H7462 over H5921 PREP-3MP them which shall feed H7462 them : and they shall fear H3372 no H3808 W-NPAR more H5750 ADV , nor H3808 W-NPAR be dismayed H2865 , neither H3808 W-NPAR shall they be lacking H6485 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
5 Behold H2009 IJEC , the days H3117 NMP come H935 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS , that I will raise H6965 W-VHQ1MS unto David H1732 L-NAME a righteous H6662 AMS Branch H6780 , and a King H4428 NMS shall reign H4427 and prosper H7919 , and shall execute H6213 W-VQQ3MS judgment H4941 NMS and justice H6666 in the earth H776 B-GFS .
6 In his days H3117 Judah H3063 shall be saved H3467 , and Israel H3478 shall dwell H7931 VQY3MS safely H983 L-NMS : and this H2088 W-PMS is his name H8034 whereby H834 RPRO he shall be called H7121 , THE LORD H3068 EDS OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS H6664 .
7 Therefore H3651 L-ADV , behold H2009 IJEC , the days H3117 NMP come H935 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS , that they shall no H3808 W-NPAR more H5750 ADV say H559 VQY3MP , The LORD H3068 EDS liveth H2416 AMS , which H834 RPRO brought up H5927 the children H1121 of Israel H3478 out of the land H776 M-NFS of Egypt H4714 ;
8 But H518 PART , The LORD H3068 EDS liveth H2416 AMS , which H834 RPRO brought up H5927 and which H834 RPRO led H935 VHQ3MS the seed H2233 NMS of the house H1004 CMS of Israel H3478 out of the north H6828 country H776 M-NFS , and from all H3605 WM-CMS countries H776 whither H834 RPRO I had driven H5080 them ; and they shall dwell H3427 in H5921 PREP their own land H127 .
9 Mine heart H3820 NMS-1MS within H7130 me is broken H7665 because of the prophets H5030 ; all H3605 NMS my bones H6106 CFS-1MS shake H7363 ; I am H1961 VQQ1MS like a drunken H7910 man H376 , and like a man H1397 whom wine H3196 hath overcome H5674 , because H6440 M-CMP of the LORD H3068 EDS , and because H6440 of the words H1697 CMP of his holiness H6944 .
10 For H3588 CONJ the land H776 D-GFS is full H4390 VQQ3FS of adulterers H5003 ; for H3588 CONJ because H6440 M-CMP of swearing H423 the land H776 D-GFS mourneth H56 ; the pleasant places H4999 of the wilderness H4057 NMS are dried up H3001 , and their course H4794 is H1961 W-VQY3FS evil H7451 AFS , and their force H1369 is not H3808 NADV right H3651 ADV .
11 For H3588 CONJ both H1571 CONJ prophet H5030 and H1571 CONJ priest H3548 are profane H2610 ; yea H1571 CONJ , in my house H1004 have I found H4672 VQQ1MS their wickedness H7451 CFS-3MP , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
12 Wherefore H3651 L-ADV their way H1870 CMS-3MP shall be H1961 VQY3MS unto them as slippery H2519 ways in the darkness H653 : they shall be driven on H1760 , and fall H5307 therein : for H3588 CONJ I will bring H935 evil H7451 AFS upon H5921 PREP-3MP them , even the year H8141 of their visitation H6486 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
13 And I have seen H7200 VQQ1MS folly H8604 in the prophets H5030 of Samaria H8111 ; they prophesied H5012 in Baal H1168 , and caused my people H5971 Israel H3478 LMS to err H8582 .
14 I have seen H7200 VQQ1MS also in the prophets H5030 of Jerusalem H3389 a horrible thing H8186 : they commit adultery H5003 , and walk H1980 in lies H8267 : they strengthen H2388 also the hands H3027 CFD of evildoers H7489 , that none H1115 L-NPAR doth return H7725 VQQ3MP from his wickedness H7451 M-CFS-3MS : they are H1961 all H3605 of them unto me as Sodom H5467 , and the inhabitants H3427 thereof as Gomorrah H6017 .
15 Therefore H3651 L-ADV thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 concerning H5921 PREP the prophets H5030 ; Behold H2009 , I will feed H398 them with wormwood H3939 , and make them drink H8248 the water H4325 of gall H7219 CMS : for H3588 CONJ from the prophets H5030 of Jerusalem H3389 is profaneness H2613 gone forth H3318 VQQ3FS into all H3605 L-CMS the land H776 D-GFS .
16 Thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 , Hearken H8085 not H408 ADV unto H5921 PREP the words H1697 CMP of the prophets H5030 that prophesy H5012 unto you : they make you vain H1891 : they H1992 PPRO-3MP speak H1696 VPY3MP a vision H2377 of their own heart H3820 CMS-3MP , and not H3808 NADV out of the mouth H6310 M-CMS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
17 They say still H559 unto them that despise H5006 me , The LORD H3068 EDS hath said H1696 VPQ3MS , Ye shall have H1961 VQY3MS peace H7965 NMS ; and they say H559 unto every one H3605 W-CMS that walketh H1980 after the imagination H8307 B-CFP of his own heart H3820 CMS-3MS , No H3808 ADV evil H7451 AFS shall come H935 VQY3FS upon H5921 PREP-2MP you .
18 For H3588 CONJ who H4310 IPRO hath stood H5975 in the counsel H5475 B-CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , and hath perceived H7200 and heard H8085 his word H1697 ? who H4310 IPRO hath marked H7181 his word H1697 , and heard H8085 it ?
19 Behold H2009 IJEC , a whirlwind H5591 of the LORD H3068 EDS is gone forth H3318 in fury H2534 NFS , even a grievous H2342 VTPMS whirlwind H5591 : it shall fall grievously H2342 upon H5921 PREP the head H7218 NMS of the wicked H7563 AMP .
20 The anger H639 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS shall not H3808 NADV return H7725 VQY3MS , until H5704 PREP he have executed H6213 , and till H5704 PREP he have performed H6965 the thoughts H4209 of his heart H3820 CMS-3MS : in the latter H319 days H3117 D-NMP ye shall consider H995 it perfectly H998 NFS .
21 I have not H3808 NADV sent H7971 these prophets H5030 , yet they H1992 W-PPRO-3MP ran H7323 : I have not H3808 NADV spoken H1696 to H413 PREP-3MP them , yet they H1992 W-PPRO-3MP prophesied H5012 .
22 But if H518 they had stood H5975 VQQ3MP in my counsel H5475 , and had caused my people H5971 to hear H8085 my words H1697 CMP-1MS , then they should have turned H7725 them from their evil H7451 D-AMS way H1870 M-CMS-3MP , and from the evil H7455 of their doings H4611 .
23 Am I H589 PPRO-1MS a God H430 at hand H7138 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS , and not H3808 W-NPAR a God H430 CDP afar off H7350 ?
24 Can H518 PART any H376 NMS hide himself H5641 in secret places H4565 that I H589 W-PPRO-1MS shall not H3808 ADV see H7200 him ? saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS . Do not H3808 ADV I H589 W-PPRO-1MS fill H4390 VQQ3MS heaven H8064 D-NMD and earth H776 D-GFS ? saith H5002 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
25 I have heard H8085 VQQ1MS what H834 RPRO the prophets H5030 said H559 , that prophesy H5012 lies H8267 NMS in my name H8034 , saying H559 L-VQFC , I have dreamed H2492 , I have dreamed H2492 .
26 How long H5704 PREP shall this be H3426 I-ADV in the heart H3820 of the prophets H5030 that prophesy H5012 lies H8267 ? yea , they are prophets H5030 of the deceit H8649 of their own heart H3820 ;
27 Which think H2803 to cause my people H5971 to forget H7911 my name H8034 by their dreams H2472 which H834 RPRO they tell H5608 every man H376 NMS to his neighbor H7453 L-CMS-3MS , as H834 RPRO their fathers H1 CMP-3MP have forgotten H7911 my name H8034 for Baal H1168 .
28 The prophet H5030 that RPRO hath a dream H2472 , let him tell H5608 VPY3MS a dream H2472 ; and he that RPRO hath my word H1697 , let him speak H1696 VPY3MS my word H1697 faithfully H571 CFS . What H4100 IPRO is the chaff H8401 to H854 PREP-3MS the wheat H1250 ? saith H5002 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
29 Is not H3808 D-NPAR my word H1697 CMS-1MS like H3541 as a fire H784 ? saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS ; and like a hammer H6360 that breaketh H6327 the rock H5553 in pieces ?
30 Therefore H3651 L-ADV , behold H2009 , I am against H5921 PREP the prophets H5030 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS , that steal H1589 my words H1697 CMP-1MS every one H376 NMS from his neighbor H7453 CMS-3MS .
31 Behold H2009 , I am against H5921 PREP the prophets H5030 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS , that use H3947 their tongues H3956 , and say H5001 , He saith H5002 .
32 Behold H2009 , I am against H5921 PREP them that prophesy H5012 false H8267 NMS dreams H2472 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 EDS , and do tell H5608 them , and cause my people H5971 to err H8582 by their lies H8267 , and by their lightness H6350 ; yet I H595 W-PPRO-1MS sent H7971 them not H3808 ADV , nor H3808 W-NADV commanded H6680 them : therefore they shall not H3808 ADV profit this people at all H3276 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
33 And when H3588 W-CONJ this H2088 D-PMS people H5971 , or H176 CONJ the prophet H5030 , or H176 CONJ a priest H3548 NMS , shall ask H7592 thee , saying H559 L-VQFC , What H4100 IPRO is the burden H4853 of the LORD H3068 EDS ? thou shalt then say H559 unto H413 PREP-3MP them , What H4100 IPRO burden H4853 ? I will even forsake H5203 you , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
34 And as for the prophet H5030 , and the priest H3548 , and the people H5971 , that H834 RPRO shall say H559 VQY3MS , The burden H4853 of the LORD H3068 EDS , I will even punish H6485 that H1931 D-PPRO-3MS man H376 D-NMS and his house H1004 CMS-3MS .
35 Thus H3541 shall ye say H559 VQY2MP every one H376 NMS to H5921 PREP his neighbor H7453 NMS-3MS , and every one H376 NMS to H413 PREP his brother H251 CMS-3MS , What H4100 IPRO hath the LORD H3068 EDS answered H6030 ? and , What H4100 W-IPRO hath the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS spoken H1696 VPQ3MS ?
36 And the burden H4853 of the LORD H3068 EDS shall ye mention H2142 no H3808 NADV more H5750 ADV : for H3588 CONJ every man H376 L-NMS \'s word H1697 shall be H1961 VQY3MS his burden H4853 ; for ye have perverted H2015 the words H1697 CMP of the living H2416 NMP God H430 EDP , of the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 our God H430 NAME-4MP .
37 Thus H3541 shalt thou say H559 VQY2MS to H413 PREP the prophet H5030 , What H4100 IPRO hath the LORD H3068 EDS answered H6030 thee ? and , What H4100 W-IPRO hath the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS spoken H1696 VPQ3MS ?
38 But since H518 W-PART ye say H559 , The burden H4853 of the LORD H3068 EDS ; therefore H3651 L-ADV thus H3541 saith H559 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 EDS ; Because H3282 ADV ye say H559 this H2088 D-PMS word H1697 D-NMS , The burden H4853 of the LORD H3068 EDS , and I have sent H7971 unto H413 you , saying H559 L-VQFC , Ye shall not H3808 NADV say H559 VQY2MP , The burden H4853 of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS ;
39 Therefore H3651 L-ADV , behold H2009 , I , even I , will utterly forget H5382 you , and I will forsake H5203 you , and the city H5892 D-GFS that H834 RPRO I gave H5414 VQQ1MS you and your fathers H1 , and cast you out of M-PREP my presence H6440 :
40 And I will bring H5414 an everlasting H5769 NMS reproach H2781 upon H5921 PREP-2MP you , and a perpetual H5769 NMS shame H3640 , which H834 RPRO shall not H3808 NADV be forgotten H7911 .
