1 John 2:1 (NET) New English Translation

1 (My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin.) But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous One,
2 and he himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for our sins but also for the whole world.
3 Now by this we know that we have come to know God: if we keep his commandments.
4 The one who says "I have come to know God" and yet does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in such a person.
5 But whoever obeys his word, truly in this person the love of God has been perfected. By this we know that we are in him.
6 The one who says he resides in God ought himself to walk just as Jesus walked.
7 Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have already heard.
8 On the other hand, I am writing a new commandment to you which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.
9 The one who says he is in the light but still hates his fellow Christian is still in the darkness.
10 The one who loves his fellow Christian resides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him.
11 But the one who hates his fellow Christian is in the darkness, walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
12 I am writing to you, little children, that your sins have been forgiven because of his name.
13 I am writing to you, fathers, that you have known him who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young people, that you have conquered the evil one.
14 I have written to you, children, that you have known the Father. I have written to you, fathers, that you have known him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young people, that you are strong, and the word of God resides in you, and you have conquered the evil one.
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him,
16 because all that is in the world (the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the arrogance produced by material possessions) is not from the Father, but is from the world.
17 And the world is passing away with all its desires, but the person who does the will of God remains forever.
18 Children, it is the last hour, and just as you heard that the antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have appeared. We know from this that it is the last hour.
19 They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us, because if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us. But they went out from us to demonstrate that all of them do not belong to us.
20 Nevertheless you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know.
21 I have not written to you that you do not know the truth, but that you do know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
22 Who is the liar but the person who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This one is the antichrist: the person who denies the Father and the Son.
23 Everyone who denies the Son does not have the Father either. The person who confesses the Son has the Father also.
24 As for you, what you have heard from the beginning must remain in you. If what you heard from the beginning remains in you, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.
25 Now this is the promise that he himself made to us: eternal life.
26 These things I have written to you about those who are trying to deceive you.
27 Now as for you, the anointing that you received from him resides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things, it is true and is not a lie. Just as it has taught you, you reside in him.
28 And now, little children, remain in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink away from him in shame when he comes back.
29 If you know that he is righteous, you also know that everyone who practices righteousness has been fathered by him.

2 And G2532 CONJ he G846 P-NSM is G2076 V-PXI-3S the propitiation G2434 N-NSM for G4012 PREP our G3588 T-GPF sins G266 N-GPF : and G1161 CONJ not G3756 PRT-N for G3588 T-GPF ours G2251 S-1GPF only G3440 ADV , but G235 CONJ also G2532 CONJ for G4012 PREP the sins of the G3588 T-GPF whole G3650 A-GSM world G2889 N-GSM .
3 And G2532 CONJ hereby G1722 PREP we do know G1097 V-PAI-1P that G3754 CONJ we know G1097 V-RAI-1P him G846 P-ASM , if G1437 COND we keep G5083 V-PAS-1P his G3588 T-APF commandments G1785 N-APF .
4 He that saith G3004 V-PAP-NSM , I know G1097 V-RAI-1S him G846 P-ASM , and G2532 CONJ keepeth G5083 V-PAP-NSM not G3361 PRT-N his G3588 T-APF commandments G1785 N-APF , is G2076 V-PXI-3S a liar G5583 N-NSM , and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSF truth G225 N-NSF is G2076 V-PXI-3S not G3756 PRT-N in G1722 PREP him G5129 D-DSN .
5 But G1161 CONJ whoso G3739 R-NSM keepeth G5083 V-PAS-3S his G3588 T-ASM word G3056 N-ASM , in G1722 PREP him G5129 D-DSN verily G230 ADV is the G3588 T-NSF love G26 N-NSF of God G2316 N-GSM perfected G5048 V-RPI-3S : hereby G1722 PREP know G1097 V-PAI-1P we that G3754 CONJ we are G2070 V-PXI-1P in G1722 PREP him G846 P-GSM .
6 He that saith G3004 V-PAP-NSM he abideth G3306 V-PAN in G1722 PREP him G846 P-DSM ought G3784 V-PAI-3S himself G848 also G2532 CONJ so G3779 ADV to walk G4043 V-AAI-3S , even as G2531 ADV he G1565 D-NSM walked G4043 V-PAN .
7 Brethren G80 N-VPM , I write G1125 V-PAI-1S no G3756 PRT-N new G2537 A-ASF commandment G1785 N-ASF unto you G5213 P-2DP , but G235 CONJ an old G3820 A-ASF commandment G1785 N-ASF which G3739 R-ASF ye had G2192 V-IAI-2P from G575 PREP the beginning G746 N-GSF . The G3588 T-NSF old G3820 A-NSF commandment G1785 N-NSF is G2076 V-PXI-3S the G3588 T-NSM word G3056 N-NSM which G3739 R-ASM ye have heard G191 V-AAI-2P from G575 PREP the beginning G746 N-GSF .
8 Again G3825 ADV , a new G2537 A-ASF commandment G1785 N-ASF I write G1125 V-PAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , which thing G3739 R-ASN is G2076 V-PXI-3S true G227 A-ASN in G1722 PREP him G846 P-DSM and G2532 CONJ in G1722 PREP you G5213 P-2DP : because G3754 CONJ the G3588 T-NSF darkness G4653 N-NSF is past G3855 V-PMI-3S , and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSN true G228 A-NSN light G5457 N-NSN now G2235 ADV shineth G5316 V-PAI-3S .
9 He that saith G3004 V-PAP-NSM he is G1511 V-PXN in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSN light G5457 N-DSN , and G2532 CONJ hateth G3404 V-PAP-NSM his G3588 T-ASM brother G80 N-ASM , is G2076 V-PXI-3S in G1722 PREP darkness G4653 N-DSF even until G2193 CONJ now G737 ADV .
10 He that loveth G25 V-PAP-NSM his G3588 T-ASM brother G80 N-ASM abideth G3306 V-PAI-3S in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSN light G5457 N-DSN , and G2532 CONJ there is G2076 V-PXI-3S none G3756 PRT-N occasion of stumbling G4625 N-NSN in G1722 PREP him G846 P-GSM .
11 But G1161 CONJ he that hateth G3404 V-PAP-NSM his G3588 T-ASM brother G80 N-ASM is G2076 V-PXI-3S in G1722 PREP darkness G4653 N-DSF , and G2532 CONJ walketh G4043 V-PAI-3S in G1722 PREP darkness G4653 N-DSF , and G2532 CONJ knoweth G1492 V-RAI-3S not G3756 PRT-N whither G4226 he goeth G5217 V-PAI-3S , because G3754 CONJ that darkness G4653 N-NSF hath blinded G5186 V-AAI-3S his G3588 T-APM eyes G3788 N-APM .
12 I write G1125 V-PAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , little children G5040 N-VPN , because G3754 CONJ your sins G266 N-NPF are forgiven G863 V-RPI-3P you G5213 P-2DP for his name\'s sake G1223 PREP .
13 I write G1125 V-PAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , fathers G3962 N-VPM , because G3754 CONJ ye have known G1097 V-RAI-2P him G3588 T-ASM that is from G575 PREP the beginning G746 N-GSF . I write G1125 V-PAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , young men G3495 N-VPM , because G3754 CONJ ye have overcome G3528 V-RAI-2P the G3588 T-ASM wicked one G4190 A-ASM . I write G1125 V-PAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , little children G3813 N-VPN , because G3754 CONJ ye have known G1097 V-RAI-2P the G3588 T-ASM Father G3962 N-ASM .
14 I have written G1125 V-AAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , fathers G3962 N-VPM , because G3754 CONJ ye have known G1097 V-RAI-2P him G3588 T-ASM that is from G575 PREP the beginning G746 N-GSF . I have written G1125 V-AAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP , young men G3495 N-VPM , because G3754 CONJ ye are G2075 V-PXI-2P strong G2478 A-NPM , and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM word G3056 N-NSM of God G2316 N-GSM abideth G3306 V-PAI-3S in G1722 PREP you G5213 P-2DP , and G2532 CONJ ye have overcome G3528 V-RAI-2P the G3588 T-ASM wicked one G4190 A-ASM .
15 Love G25 V-PAM-2P not G3361 PRT-N the G3588 T-ASM world G2889 N-ASM , neither G3366 CONJ the G3588 T-APN things G3588 T-APN that are in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSM world G2889 N-DSM . If G1437 COND any man G5100 X-NSM love G25 V-PAS-3S the G3588 T-ASM world G2889 N-ASM , the G3588 T-NSF love G26 N-NSF of G3588 T-GSM the G3588 T-GSM Father G3962 N-GSM is G2076 V-PXI-3S not G3756 PRT-N in G1722 PREP him G846 P-DSM .
16 For G3754 CONJ all G3956 A-NSN that G3588 T-NSN is in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSM world G2889 N-DSM , the G3588 T-NSF lust G1939 N-NSF of G3588 T-GSF the G3588 T-GSF flesh G4561 N-GSF , and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSF lust G1939 N-NSF of G3588 T-GPM the G3588 T-GPM eyes G3788 N-GPM , and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSF pride G212 N-NSF of life G979 N-GSM , is G2076 V-PXI-3S not G3756 PRT-N of G1537 PREP the G3588 T-GSM Father G3962 N-GSM , but G235 CONJ is G2076 V-PXI-3S of G1537 PREP the G3588 T-GSM world G2889 N-GSM .
17 And G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSM world G2889 N-NSM passeth away G3855 V-PMI-3S , and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSF lust G1939 N-NSF thereof G848 : but G1161 CONJ he that doeth G4160 V-PAP-NSM the G3588 T-ASN will G2307 N-ASN of God G2316 N-GSM abideth G3306 V-PAI-3S forever G1519 PREP .
18 Little children G3813 N-VPN , it is G2076 V-PXI-3S the last G2078 A-NSF time G5610 N-NSF : and G2532 CONJ as G2531 ADV ye have heard G191 V-AAI-2P that G3588 T-NSM antichrist G500 N-NSM shall come G2064 V-PNI-3S , even G2532 CONJ now G3568 ADV are G1096 V-2RAI-3P there many G4183 A-NPM antichrists G500 N-NPM ; whereby G3606 ADV we know G1097 V-PAI-1P that G3754 CONJ it is G2076 V-PXI-3S the last G2078 A-NSF time G5610 N-NSF .
19 They went out G1831 V-2AAI-3P from G1537 PREP us G2257 P-1GP , but G235 CONJ they were G2258 V-IXI-3P not G3756 PRT-N of G1537 PREP us G2257 P-1GP : for G1063 CONJ if G1487 COND they had been G2258 V-IXI-3P of G1537 PREP us G2257 P-1GP , they would no doubt have continued G3306 V-LAI-3P with G3326 PREP us G2257 P-1GP : but G235 CONJ they went out , that G2443 CONJ they might be made manifest G5319 V-APS-3P that G3754 CONJ they were G1526 V-PXI-3P not G3756 PRT-N all G3956 A-NPM of G1537 PREP us G2257 P-1GP .
20 But G2532 CONJ ye G5210 P-2NP have G2192 V-PAI-2P an unction G5545 N-ASN from G575 PREP the G3588 T-GSM Holy One G40 A-GSM , and G2532 CONJ ye know G1492 V-RAI-2P all things G3956 A-APN .
21 I have not G3756 PRT-N written G1125 V-AAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP because G3754 CONJ ye know G1492 V-RAI-2P not G3756 PRT-N the G3588 T-ASF truth G225 N-ASF , but G235 CONJ because G3754 CONJ ye know G1492 V-RAI-2P it G846 P-ASF , and G2532 CONJ that G3754 CONJ no G3956 A-NSN lie G5579 N-NSN is G2076 V-PXI-3S of G1537 PREP the G3588 T-GSF truth G225 N-GSF .
22 Who G5101 I-NSM is G2076 V-PXI-3S a liar G5583 N-NSM but G1508 he that denieth G720 V-PNP-NSM that G3754 CONJ Jesus G2424 N-NSM is V-PXI-3S the G3588 T-NSM Christ G5547 N-NSM ? He G3778 D-NSM is G2076 V-PXI-3S antichrist G500 N-NSM , that denieth G720 V-PNP-NSM the G3588 T-ASM Father G3962 N-ASM and G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-ASM Son G5207 N-ASM .
23 Whosoever G3588 T-NSM denieth G720 V-PNP-NSM the G3588 T-ASM Son G5207 N-ASM , the same hath G2192 V-PAI-3S not G3761 ADV the G3588 T-ASM Father G3962 N-ASM : but he that acknowledgeth G3670 the G3588 T-ASM Son G5207 N-ASM hath G2192 V-PAI-3S the G3588 T-ASM Father G3962 N-ASM also G2532 .
24 Let that therefore G3767 CONJ abide G3306 V-PAM-3S in G1722 PREP you G5213 P-2DP , which ye G5210 P-2NP have heard G191 V-AAI-2P from G575 PREP the beginning G746 N-GSF . If G1437 COND that which G3739 R-ASN ye have heard G191 V-AAI-2P from G575 PREP the beginning G746 N-GSF shall remain G3306 V-AAS-3S in G1722 PREP you G5213 P-2DP , ye G5210 P-2NP also G2532 CONJ shall continue G3306 V-FAI-2P in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSM Son G5207 N-DSM , and G2532 CONJ in G1722 PREP the G3588 T-DSM Father G3962 N-DSM .
25 And G2532 CONJ this G3778 D-NSF is G2076 V-PXI-3S the G3588 T-NSF promise G1860 N-NSF that G3739 R-ASF he G846 P-NSM hath promised G1861 V-ADI-3S us G3588 T-ASF , even eternal G166 A-ASF life G2222 N-ASF ,
26 These G5023 D-APN things have I written G1125 V-AAI-1S unto you G5213 P-2DP concerning G4012 PREP them that seduce G4105 V-PAP-GPM you G5209 P-2AP .
27 But G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NSN anointing G5545 N-NSN which G3739 R-NSN ye G5210 P-2NP have received G2983 V-2AAI-2P of G575 PREP him G846 P-GSM abideth G3306 V-PAI-3S in G1722 PREP you G5213 P-2DP , and G2532 CONJ ye need G2192 V-PAI-2P not G3756 PRT-N that G2443 CONJ any man G5100 X-NSM teach G1321 V-PAS-3S you G5209 P-2AP : but G235 CONJ as G5613 ADV the G3588 T-NSN same G846 P-NSN anointing G5545 N-NSN teacheth G1321 V-PAI-3S you G5209 P-2AP of G4012 PREP all things G3956 A-GPN , and G2532 CONJ is G2076 V-PXI-3S truth G227 A-NSN , and G2532 CONJ is G2076 V-PXI-3S no G3756 PRT-N lie G5579 N-NSN , and G2532 CONJ even as G2531 ADV it hath taught G1321 V-AAI-3S you G5209 P-2AP , ye shall abide G3306 V-FAI-2P in G1722 PREP him G846 P-DSM .
28 And G2532 CONJ now G3568 ADV , little children G5040 N-VPN , abide G3306 V-PAM-2P in G1722 PREP him G846 P-DSM ; that G2443 CONJ , when G3752 CONJ he shall appear G5319 V-APS-3S , we may have G2192 V-PAS-1P confidence G3954 N-ASF , and G2532 CONJ not G3361 PRT-N be ashamed G153 V-APS-1P before G575 PREP him G846 P-GSM at G1722 PREP his G3588 T-DSF coming G3952 N-DSF .
29 If G1437 COND ye know G1492 V-RAS-2P that G3754 CONJ he is G2076 V-PXI-3S righteous G1342 A-NSM , ye know G1097 V-PAI-2P that G3754 CONJ every one G3956 A-NSM that G3588 T-ASF doeth G4160 V-PAP-NSM righteousness G1343 N-ASF is born G1080 V-RPI-3S of G1537 PREP him G846 P-GSM .
