2 Chronicles 7:1 (NET) New English Translation

1 When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the LORD's splendor filled the temple.
2 The priests were unable to enter the LORD's temple because the LORD's splendor filled the LORD's temple.
3 When all the Israelites saw the fire come down and the LORD's splendor over the temple, they got on their knees with their faces downward toward the pavement. They worshiped and gave thanks to the LORD, saying, "Certainly he is good; certainly his loyal love endures!"
4 The king and all the people were presenting sacrifices to the LORD.
5 King Solomon sacrificed 22,000 cattle and 120,000 sheep. Then the king and all the people dedicated God's temple.
6 The priests stood in their assigned spots, along with the Levites who had the musical instruments used for praising the LORD. (These were the ones King David made for giving thanks to the LORD and which were used by David when he offered praise, saying, "Certainly his loyal love endures.") Opposite the Levites, the priests were blowing the trumpets, while all Israel stood there.
7 Solomon consecrated the middle of the courtyard that is in front of the LORD's temple. He offered burnt sacrifices, grain offerings, and the fat from the peace offerings there, because the bronze altar that Solomon had made was too small to hold all these offerings.
8 At that time Solomon and all Israel with him celebrated a festival for seven days. This great assembly included people from Lebo Hamath in the north to the Brook of Egypt in the south.
9 On the eighth day they held an assembly, for they had dedicated the altar for seven days and celebrated the festival for seven more days.
10 On the twenty-third day of the seventh month, Solomon sent the people home. They left happy and contented because of the good the LORD had done for David, Solomon, and his people Israel.
11 After Solomon finished building the LORD's temple and the royal palace, and accomplished all his plans for the LORD's temple and his royal palace,
12 the LORD appeared to Solomon at night and said to him: "I have answered your prayer and chosen this place to be my temple where sacrifices are to be made.
13 When I close up the sky so that it doesn't rain, or command locusts to devour the land's vegetation, or send a plague among my people,
14 if my people, who belong to me, humble themselves, pray, seek to please me, and repudiate their sinful practices, then I will respond from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.
15 Now I will be attentive and responsive to the prayers offered in this place.
16 Now I have chosen and consecrated this temple by making it my permanent home; I will be constantly present there.
17 You must serve me as your father David did. Do everything I commanded and obey my rules and regulations.
18 Then I will establish your dynasty, just as I promised your father David, 'You will not fail to have a successor ruling over Israel.'
19 "But if you people ever turn away from me, fail to obey the regulations and rules I instructed you to keep, and decide to serve and worship other gods,
20 then I will remove you from my land I have given you, I will abandon this temple I have consecrated with my presence, and I will make you an object of mockery and ridicule among all the nations.
21 As for this temple, which was once majestic, everyone who passes by it will be shocked and say, 'Why did the LORD do this to this land and this temple?'
22 Others will then answer, 'Because they abandoned the LORD God of their ancestors, who led them out of Egypt. They embraced other gods whom they worshiped and served. That is why he brought all this disaster down on them.'"

2 And the priests H3548 could H3201 VQP3MP not H3808 W-NPAR enter H935 L-VQFC into H413 PREP the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , because H3588 CONJ the glory H3519 of the LORD H3068 EDS had filled H4390 VQQ3MS the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS \'s house H1004 CMS .
3 And when all H3605 W-CMS the children H1121 of Israel H3478 saw H7200 how the fire H784 came down H3381 , and the glory H3519 of the LORD H3068 EDS upon H5921 PREP the house H1004 , they bowed H3766 themselves with their faces H639 NMD to the ground H776 NFS-3FS upon H5921 PREP the pavement H7531 , and worshiped H7812 , and praised H3034 the LORD H3068 L-EDS , saying , For H3588 CONJ he is good H2896 AMS ; for H3588 CONJ his mercy H2617 endureth forever H5769 L-NMS .

5 And king H4428 D-NMS Solomon H8010 MMS offered H2076 a sacrifice H2077 NMS of twenty H6242 and two H8147 thousand H505 W-BMS oxen H1241 D-NMS , and a hundred H3967 MFS and twenty H6242 W-MMP thousand H505 MMS sheep H6629 : so the king H4428 D-NMS and all H3605 W-CMS the people H5971 D-NMS dedicated H2596 the house H1004 CMS of God H430 D-NAME-4MS .
6 And the priests H3548 waited H5975 VQPMP on H5921 PREP their offices H4931 : the Levites H3881 also with instruments H3627 of music H7892 of the LORD H3068 EDS , which H834 RPRO David H1732 the king H4428 D-NMS had made H6213 VQQ3MS to praise H3034 the LORD H3068 L-EDS , because H3588 CONJ his mercy H2617 endureth forever H5769 L-NMS , when David H1732 praised H1984 by their ministry H3027 ; and the priests H3548 sounded H2690 trumpets before H5048 them , and all H3605 W-CMS Israel H3478 stood H5975 VQPMP .
7 Moreover Solomon H8010 MMS hallowed H6942 W-VPY3MS the middle H8432 of the court H2691 that H834 RPRO was before H6440 L-CMP the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS : for H3588 CONJ there H8033 ADV he offered H6213 VQQ3MS burnt offerings H5930 , and the fat H2459 of the peace offerings H8002 , because H3588 CONJ the brazen H5178 altar H4196 which H834 RPRO Solomon H8010 MMS had made H6213 VQQ3MS was not able H3201 to receive H3557 the burnt offerings H5930 , and the meat offerings H4503 , and the fat H2459 .
8 Also at the same H1931 time H6256 Solomon H8010 MMS kept H6213 W-VQY3MS the feast H2282 seven H7651 RMS days H3117 NMP , and all H3605 W-CMS Israel H3478 with H5973 PREP-3MS him , a very H3966 ADV great H1419 AMS congregation H6951 , from the entering in of Hamath H2574 unto H5704 PREP the river H5158 NMS of Egypt H4714 .
9 And in the eighth H8066 day H3117 B-AMS they made H6213 a solemn assembly H6116 : for H3588 CONJ they kept H6213 VQQ3MP the dedication H2598 of the altar H4196 D-NMS seven H7651 RMS days H3117 NMP , and the feast H2282 seven H7651 RMS days H3117 NMP .
10 And on the three H7969 and twentieth H6242 day H3117 of the seventh H7637 D-ONUM month H2320 LD-NMS he sent H7971 VPQ3MS the people H5971 away into their tents H168 , glad H8056 and merry H2896 in heart H3820 NMS for H5921 PREP the goodness H2896 that H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS had showed H6213 VQQ3MS unto David H1732 , and to Solomon H8010 , and to Israel H3478 his people H5971 .
11 Thus Solomon H8010 MMS finished H3615 W-VPY3MS the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , and the king H4428 D-NMS \'s house H1004 CMS : and all H3605 NMS that came H935 into H5921 PREP Solomon H8010 MMS \'s heart H3820 NMS to make H6213 L-VQFC in the house H1004 B-CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , and in his own house H1004 , he prosperously effected H6743 .
12 And the LORD H3068 EDS appeared H7200 W-VNY3MS to H413 PREP Solomon H8010 MMS by night H3915 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS unto him , I have heard H8085 VQQ1MS thy prayer H8605 , and have chosen H977 this H2088 D-PMS place H4725 to myself for a house H1004 of sacrifice H2077 .
13 If H2005 IJEC I shut up H6113 heaven H8064 D-NMD that there be H1961 VQY3MS no H3808 W-NPAR rain H4306 NMS , or if H2005 I command H6680 the locusts H2284 to devour H398 the land H776 D-GFS , or if H518 W-PART I send H7971 pestilence H1698 among my people H5971 ;
14 If my people H5971 , which H834 RPRO are called H7121 by my name H8034 , shall humble themselves H3665 , and pray H6419 , and seek H1245 my face H6440 CMP-1MS , and turn H7725 W-VUY3MP from their wicked H7451 ways H1870 ; then will I H589 W-PPRO-1MS hear H8085 from H4480 PREP heaven H8064 D-NMD , and will forgive H5545 their sin H2403 , and will heal H7495 their land H776 .
15 Now H6258 ADV mine eyes H5869 CMD-1MS shall be H1961 VQY3MP open H6605 , and mine ears H241 attent H7183 unto the prayer H8605 that is made in this H2088 D-PMS place H4725 D-NMS .
16 For now H6258 W-ADV have I chosen H977 and sanctified H6942 this H2088 D-PMS house H1004 D-NMS , that my name H8034 may be H1961 there H8033 ADV forever H5704 PREP : and mine eyes H5869 CMD-1MS and mine heart H3820 shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS there H8033 ADV perpetually H3605 NMS .
17 And as for thee H859 W-PPRO-2MS , if H518 PART thou wilt walk H1980 VQY2MS before H6440 L-CMP me , as H834 RPRO David H1732 thy father H1 NMS walked H1980 VQQ3MS , and do H6213 according to all H3605 K-NMS that H834 RPRO I have commanded H6680 VPQ1MS-2MS thee , and shalt observe H8104 my statutes H2706 and my judgments H4941 ;
18 Then will I establish H6965 the throne H3678 of thy kingdom H4438 , according as H834 K-RPRO I have covenanted H3772 VQQ1MS with David H1732 thy father H1 NMS , saying H559 L-VQFC , There shall not H3808 ADV fail H3772 VNI3MS thee a man H376 NMS to be ruler H4910 in Israel H3478 .
19 But if H518 W-PART ye H859 PPRO-2MS turn away H7725 , and forsake H5800 my statutes H2708 and my commandments H4687 W-CFP-1MS , which H834 RPRO I have set H5414 VQQ1MS before H6440 you , and shall go H1980 and serve H5647 other H312 AMP gods H430 EDP , and worship H7812 them ;
20 Then will I pluck them up by the roots H5428 out of M-PREP my land H127 CFS-1MS which H834 RPRO I have given H5414 VQQ1MS them ; and this H2088 D-PMS house H1004 D-NMS , which H834 RPRO I have sanctified H6942 for my name H8034 , will I cast out H7993 VHY1MS of M-PREP my sight H6440 , and will make H5414 it to be a proverb H4912 and a byword H8148 among all H3605 B-CMS nations H5971 .
21 And this H2088 D-PMS house H1004 , which H834 RPRO is H1961 VQQ3MS high H5945 AMS , shall be an astonishment H8074 to every one H3605 L-CMS that passeth H5674 by H5921 PREP-3MS it ; so that he shall say H559 , Why H4100 hath the LORD H3068 EDS done H6213 VQQ3MS thus H3602 ADV unto this H2063 D-DFS land H776 LD-NFS , and unto this H2088 D-PMS house H1004 ?
22 And it shall be answered H559 W-VQQ3MP , Because H5921 PREP they forsook H5800 the LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of their fathers H1 , which H834 RPRO brought them forth H3318 out of the land H776 M-NFS of Egypt H4714 EFS , and laid hold H2388 on other H312 AMP gods H430 , and worshiped H7812 them , and served H5647 them : therefore H3651 ADV hath he brought H935 VHQ3MS all H3605 NMS this H2063 evil H7451 D-AFS upon H5921 PREP them .
