1
Now
Joab
the
son
of
Zeruiah
perceived
that
the
king’s
heart
was
toward
Absalom.
2
And
Joab
sent
to
Tekoah,
and
fetched
thence
a
wise
woman,
and
said
unto
her,
I
pray
thee,
feign
thyself
to
be
a
mourner,
and
put
on
now
mourning
apparel,
and
anoint
not
thyself
with
oil,
but
be
as
a
woman
that
had
a
long
time
mourned
for
the
dead:
3
And
come
to
the
king,
and
speak
on
this
manner
unto
him.
So
Joab
put
the
words
in
her
mouth.
4
And
when
the
woman
of
Tekoah
spake
to
the
king,
she
fell
on
her
face
to
the
ground,
and
did
obeisance,
and
said,
Help,
O
king.
5
And
the
king
said
unto
her,
What
aileth
thee?
And
she
answered,
I
am
indeed
a
widow
woman,
and
mine
husband
is
dead.
6
And
thy
handmaid
had
two
sons,
and
they
two
strove
together
in
the
field,
and
there
was
none
to
part
them,
but
the
one
smote
the
other,
and
slew
him.
7
And,
behold,
the
whole
family
is
risen
against
thine
handmaid,
and
they
said,
Deliver
him
that
smote
his
brother,
that
we
may
kill
him,
for
the
life
of
his
brother
whom
he
slew;
and
we
will
destroy
the
heir
also:
and
so
they
shall
quench
my
coal
which
is
left,
and
shall
not
leave
to
my
husband
neither
name
nor
remainder
upon
the
earth.
8
And
the
king
said
unto
the
woman,
Go
to
thine
house,
and
I
will
give
charge
concerning
thee.
9
And
the
woman
of
Tekoah
said
unto
the
king,
My
lord,
O
king,
the
iniquity
be
on
me,
and
on
my
father’s
house:
and
the
king
and
his
throne
be
guiltless.
10
And
the
king
said,
Whosoever
saith
ought
unto
thee,
bring
him
to
me,
and
he
shall
not
touch
thee
any
more.
11
Then
said
she,
I
pray
thee,
let
the
king
remember
the
LORD
thy
God,
that
thou
wouldest
not
suffer
the
revengers
of
blood
to
destroy
any
more,
lest
they
destroy
my
son.
And
he
said,
As
the
LORD
liveth,
there
shall
not
one
hair
of
thy
son
fall
to
the
earth.
12
Then
the
woman
said,
Let
thine
handmaid,
I
pray
thee,
speak
one
word
unto
my
lord
the
king.
And
he
said,
Say
on.
13
And
the
woman
said,
Wherefore
then
hast
thou
thought
such
a
thing
against
the
people
of
God?
for
the
king
doth
speak
this
thing
as
one
which
is
faulty,
in
that
the
king
doth
not
fetch
home
again
his
banished.
14
For
we
must
needs
die,
and
are
as
water
spilt
on
the
ground,
which
cannot
be
gathered
up
again;
neither
doth
God
respect
any
person:
yet
doth
he
devise
means,
that
his
banished
be
not
expelled
from
him.
15
Now
therefore
that
I
am
come
to
speak
of
this
thing
unto
my
lord
the
king,
it
is
because
the
people
have
made
me
afraid:
and
thy
handmaid
said,
I
will
now
speak
unto
the
king;
it
may
be
that
the
king
will
perform
the
request
of
his
handmaid.
16
For
the
king
will
hear,
to
deliver
his
handmaid
out
of
the
hand
of
the
man
that
would
destroy
me
and
my
son
together
out
of
the
inheritance
of
God.
17
Then
thine
handmaid
said,
The
word
of
my
lord
the
king
shall
now
be
comfortable:
for
as
an
angel
of
God,
so
is
my
lord
the
king
to
discern
good
and
bad:
therefore
the
LORD
thy
God
will
be
with
thee.
18
Then
the
king
answered
and
said
unto
the
woman,
Hide
not
from
me,
I
pray
thee,
the
thing
that
I
shall
ask
thee.
And
the
woman
said,
Let
my
lord
the
king
now
speak.
19
And
the
king
said,
Is
not
the
hand
of
Joab
with
thee
in
all
this?
And
the
woman
answered
and
said,
As
thy
soul
liveth,
my
lord
the
king,
none
can
turn
to
the
right
hand
or
to
the
left
from
ought
that
my
lord
the
king
hath
spoken:
for
thy
servant
Joab,
he
bade
me,
and
he
put
all
these
words
in
the
mouth
of
thine
handmaid:
20
To
fetch
about
this
form
of
speech
hath
thy
servant
Joab
done
this
thing:
and
my
lord
is
wise,
according
to
the
wisdom
of
an
angel
of
God,
to
know
all
things
that
are
in
the
earth.
21
And
the
king
said
unto
Joab,
Behold
now,
I
have
done
this
thing:
go
therefore,
bring
the
young
man
Absalom
again.
22
And
Joab
fell
to
the
ground
on
his
face,
and
bowed
himself,
and
thanked
the
king:
and
Joab
said,
Today
thy
servant
knoweth
that
I
have
found
grace
in
thy
sight,
my
lord,
O
king,
in
that
the
king
hath
fulfilled
the
request
of
his
servant.
23
So
Joab
arose
and
went
to
Geshur,
and
brought
Absalom
to
Jerusalem.
24
And
the
king
said,
Let
him
turn
to
his
own
house,
and
let
him
not
see
my
face.
So
Absalom
returned
to
his
own
house,
and
saw
not
the
king’s
face.
25
But
in
all
Israel
there
was
none
to
be
so
much
praised
as
Absalom
for
his
beauty:
from
the
sole
of
his
foot
even
to
the
crown
of
his
head
there
was
no
blemish
in
him.
26
And
when
he
polled
his
head,
(for
it
was
at
every
year’s
end
that
he
polled
it:
because
the
hair
was
heavy
on
him,
therefore
he
polled
it:)
he
weighed
the
hair
of
his
head
at
two
hundred
shekels
after
the
king’s
weight.
27
And
unto
Absalom
there
were
born
three
sons,
and
one
daughter,
whose
name
was
Tamar:
she
was
a
woman
of
a
fair
countenance.
28
So
Absalom
dwelt
two
full
years
in
Jerusalem,
and
saw
not
the
king’s
face.
29
Therefore
Absalom
sent
for
Joab,
to
have
sent
him
to
the
king;
but
he
would
not
come
to
him:
and
when
he
sent
again
the
second
time,
he
would
not
come.
30
Therefore
he
said
unto
his
servants,
See,
Joab’s
field
is
near
mine,
and
he
hath
barley
there;
go
and
set
it
on
fire.
And
Absalom’s
servants
set
the
field
on
fire.
31
Then
Joab
arose,
and
came
to
Absalom
unto
his
house,
and
said
unto
him,
Wherefore
have
thy
servants
set
my
field
on
fire?
32
And
Absalom
answered
Joab,
Behold,
I
sent
unto
thee,
saying,
Come
hither,
that
I
may
send
thee
to
the
king,
to
say,
Wherefore
am
I
come
from
Geshur?
it
had
been
good
for
me
to
have
been
there
still:
now
therefore
let
me
see
the
king’s
face;
and
if
there
be
any
iniquity
in
me,
let
him
kill
me.
33
So
Joab
came
to
the
king,
and
told
him:
and
when
he
had
called
for
Absalom,
he
came
to
the
king,
and
bowed
himself
on
his
face
to
the
ground
before
the
king:
and
the
king
kissed
Absalom.
Ezekiel 18:31
31
Cast
away
from
you
all
your
transgressions,
whereby
ye
have
transgressed;
and
make
you
a
new
heart
and
a
new
spirit:
for
why
will
ye
die,
O
house
of
Israel?
2 Peter 3:9
9
The
Lord
is
not
slack
concerning
his
promise,
as
some
men
count
slackness;
but
is
longsuffering
to
us-ward,
not
willing
that
any
should
perish,
but
that
all
should
come
to
repentance.

iniquity,
and
on
the
house
of
my
father;
and
the
king
and
his
throne
are
innocent.`
10
And
the
king
saith,
`He
who
speaketh
aught
unto
thee,
and
thou
hast
brought
him
unto
me,
then
he
doth
not
add
any
more
to
come
against
thee.`
11
And
she
saith,
`Let,
I
pray
thee,
the
king
remember
by
Jehovah
thy
God,
that
the
redeemer
of
blood
add
not
to
destroy,
and
they
destroy
not
my
son;`
and
he
saith,
`Jehovah
liveth;
if
there
doth
fall
of
the
hair
of
thy
son
to
the
earth.`
12
And
the
woman
saith,
`Let,
I
pray
thee,
thy
maid-servant
speak
unto
my
lord
the
king
a
word;`
and
he
saith,
`Speak.`
13
And
the
woman
saith,
`And
why
hast
thou
thought
thus
concerning
the
people
of
God?
yea,
the
king
is
speaking
this
thing
as
a
guilty
one,
in
that
the
king
hath
not
brought
back
his
outcast;
14
for
we
do
surely
die,
and
are
as
water
which
is
running
down
to
the
earth,
which
is
not
gathered,
and
God
doth
not
accept
a
person,
and
hath
devised
devices
in
that
the
outcast
is
not
outcast
by
Him.
15
`And
now
that
I
have
come
to
speak
unto
the
king
my
lord
this
word,
it
is
because
the
people
made
me
afraid,
and
thy
maid-servant
saith,
Let
me
speak,
I
pray
thee,
unto
the
king;
it
may
be
the
king
doth
do
the
word
of
his
handmaid,
16
for
the
king
doth
hearken
to
deliver
his
handmaid
out
of
the
paw
of
the
man
seeking
to
destroy
me
and
my
son
together
out
of
the
inheritance
of
God,
17
and
thy
maid-servant
saith,
Let,
I
pray
thee,
the
word
of
my
lord
the
king
be
for
ease;
for
as
a
messenger
of
God
so
is
my
lord
the
king,
to
understand
the
good
and
the
evil;
and
Jehovah
thy
God
is
with
thee.`
18
And
the
king
answereth
and
saith
unto
the
woman,
`Do
not,
I
pray
thee,
hide
from
me
the
thing
that
I
am
asking
thee;`
and
the
woman
saith,
`Let,
I
pray
thee,
my
lord
the
king
speak.`
19
And
the
king
saith,
`Is
the
hand
of
Joab
with
thee
in
all
this?`
And
the
woman
answereth
and
saith,
`Thy
soul
liveth,
my
lord,
O
king,
none
doth
turn
to
the
right
or
to
the
left
from
all
that
my
lord
the
king
hath
spoken;
for
thy
servant
Joab
he
commanded
me,
and
he
put
in
the
mouth
of
thy
maid-servant
all
these
words;
20
in
order
to
bring
round
the
appearance
of
the
thing
hath
thy
servant
Joab
done
this
thing,
and
my
lord
is
wise,
according
to
the
wisdom
of
a
messenger
of
God,
to
know
all
that
is
in
the
land.`
21
And
the
king
saith
unto
Joab,
`Lo,
I
pray
thee,
thou
hast
done
this
thing;
and
go,
bring
back
the
young
man
Absalom.`
22
And
Joab
falleth
on
his
face
to
the
earth,
and
doth
obeisance,
and
blesseth
the
king,
and
Joab
saith,
`To-day
hath
thy
servant
known
that
I
have
found
grace
in
thine
eyes,
my
lord,
O
king,
in
that
the
king
hath
done
the
word
of
his
servant.`
23
And
Joab
riseth
and
goeth
to
Geshur,
and
bringeth
in
Absalom
to
Jerusalem,
24
and
the
king
saith,
`Let
him
turn
round
unto
his
house,
and
my
face
he
doth
not
see.`
And
Absalom
turneth
round
unto
his
house,
and
the
face
of
the
king
he
hath
not
seen.
25
And
like
Absalom
there
was
no
man
so
fair
in
all
Israel,
to
praise
greatly;
from
the
sole
of
his
foot
even
unto
his
crown
there
was
no
blemish
in
him;
26
and
in
his
polling
his
head
--
and
it
hath
been
at
the
end
of
year
by
year
that
he
polleth
it
,
for
it
is
heavy
on
him,
and
he
hath
polled
it
--
he
hath
even
weighed
out
the
hair
of
his
head
--
two
hundred
shekels
by
the
king's
weight.
27
And
there
are
born
to
Absalom
three
sons,
and
one
daughter,
and
her
name
is
Tamar;
she
was
a
woman
of
a
fair
appearance.
28
And
Absalom
dwelleth
in
Jerusalem
two
years
of
days,
and
the
face
of
the
king
he
hath
not
seen;
29
and
Absalom
sendeth
unto
Joab,
to
send
him
unto
the
king,
and
he
hath
not
been
willing
to
come
unto
him;
and
he
sendeth
again
a
second
time,
and
he
hath
not
been
willing
to
come.
30
And
he
saith
unto
his
servants,
`See,
the
portion
of
Joab
is
by
the
side
of
mine,
and
he
hath
barley
there;
go,
and
burn
it
with
fire;`
and
the
servants
of
Absalom
burn
the
portion
with
fire.
31
And
Joab
riseth
and
cometh
unto
Absalom
in
the
house,
and
saith
unto
him,
`Why
have
thy
servants
burned
the
portion
that
I
have
with
fire?`
32
And
Absalom
saith
unto
Joab,
`Lo,
I
sent
unto
thee,
saying,
Come
hither,
and
I
send
thee
unto
the
king
to
say,
Why
have
I
come
in
from
Geshur?
--
good
for
me
while
I
am
there
--
and
now,
let
me
see
the
king's
face,
and
if
there
is
in
me
iniquity
then
thou
hast
put
me
to
death.`
33
And
Joab
cometh
unto
the
king,
and
declareth
it
to
him,
and
he
calleth
unto
Absalom,
and
he
cometh
unto
the
king,
and
boweth
himself
to
him,
on
his
face,
to
the
earth,
before
the
king,
and
the
king
giveth
a
kiss
to
Absalom.

my

8
And
the
king
said
unto
the
woman,
Go

and
I

charge
concerning
thee.
9
And
the
woman
of
Tekoa
said
unto
the
king,
My
lord,
O
king,
the
iniquity
be
on
me,
and
on
my
fathers
house;
and
the
king
and
his
throne
be
guiltless.
10
And
the
king
said,
Whosoever
saith
aught
unto
thee,
bring
him
to
me,
and
he
shall
not
touch
thee
any
more.
11
Then
said
she,
I
pray
thee,
let
the
king
remember
Jehovah
thy
God,
that
the
avenger
of
blood
destroy
not
any
more,
lest
they
destroy
my
son.
And
he
said,
As
Jehovah
liveth,
there
shall
not
one
hair
of
thy
son
fall
to
the
earth.
12
Then
the
woman
said,
Let
thy
handmaid,
I
pray
thee,
speak
a
word
unto
my
lord
the
king.
And
he
said,
Say
on.
13
And
the
woman
said,
Wherefore
then
hast
thou
devised
such
a
thing
against
the
people
of
God?
for
in
speaking
this
word
the
king
is
as
one
that
is
guilty,
in
that
the
king
doth
not
fetch
home
again
his
banished
one.
14
For
we
must
needs
die,
and
are
as
water
split
on
the
ground,
which
cannot
be
gathered
up
again;
neither
doth
God
take
away
life,
but
deviseth
means,
that
he
that
is
banished
be
not
an
outcast
from
him.
15
Now
therefore
seeing
that
I
am
come
to
speak
this
word
unto
my
lord
the
king,
it
is
because
the
people
have
made
me
afraid:
and
thy
handmaid
said,
I
will
now
speak
unto
the
king;
it
may
be
that
the
king
will
perform
the
request
of
his
servant.
16
For
the
king
will
hear,
to
deliver
his
servant
out
of
the
hand
of
the
man
that
would
destroy
me
and
my
son
together
out
of

17
Then
thy
handmaid
said,
Let,
I
pray
thee,
the
word
of
my
lord
the
king
be
comfortable;
for
as
an
angel
of
God,
so
is
my
lord
the
king
to
discern
good
and
bad:
and
Jehovah
thy
God
be
with
thee.
18
Then
the
king
answered
and
said
unto
the
woman,
Hide
not
from
me,
I
pray
thee,
aught
that
I
shall
ask
thee.
And
the
woman
said,
Let
my
lord
the
king
now
speak.
19
And
the
king
said,
Is
the
hand
of
Joab
with
thee
in
all
this?
And
the
woman
answered
and
said,
As
thy
soul
liveth,
my
lord
the
king,
none
can
turn
to
the
right
hand
or
to
the
left
from
aught
that
my
lord
the
king
hath
spoken;
for
thy
servant
Joab,
he
bade
me,
and
he
put
all
these
words
in
the
mouth
of
thy
handmaid;
20
to
change
the
face
of
the
matter
hath
thy
servant
Joab
done
this
thing:
and
my
lord
is
wise,
according
to
the
wisdom
of
an
angel
of
God,
to
know
all
things
that
are
in
the
earth.
21
And
the
king
said
unto
Joab,
Behold
now,
I
have
done
this
thing:
go
therefore,
bring
the
young
man
Absalom
back.
22
And
Joab
fell
to
the
ground
on
his
face,
and
did
obeisance,
and
blessed
the
king:
and
Joab
said,
To-day
thy
servant
knoweth
that
I
have
found
favor
in
thy
sight,
my
lord,
O
king,
in
that
the
king
hath
performed
the
request
of
his
servant.
23
So
Joab
arose
and
went
to
Geshur,
and
brought
Absalom
to
Jerusalem.
24
And
the
king
said,
Let
him
turn
to
his
own
house,
but
let
him
not
see
my
face.
So
Absalom
turned
to
his
own
house,
and
saw
not
the
kings
face.
25
Now
in
all
Israel
there
was
none
to
be
so
much
praised
as
Absalom
for
his
beauty:
from
the
sole
of
his
foot
even
to
the
crown
of
his
head
there
was
no
blemish
in
him.
26
And
when
he
cut
the
hair
of
his
head
(now
it
was
at
every
years
end
that
he
cut
it;
because
it
was
heavy
on
him,
therefore
he
cut
it);
he
weighed
the
hair
of
his
head
at
two
hundred
shekels,
after
the
kings
weight.
27
And
unto
Absalom
there
were
born
three
sons,
and
one
daughter,
whose
name
was
Tamar:
she
was
a
woman
of
a
fair
countenance.
28
And
Absalom
dwelt
two
full
years
in
Jerusalem;
and
he
saw
not
the
kings
face.
29
Then
Absalom
sent
for
Joab,
to
send
him
to
the
king;
but
he
would
not
come
to
him:
and
he
sent
again
a
second
time,
but
he
would
not
come.
30
Therefore
he
said
unto
his
servants,
See,
Joabs
field
is
near
mine,
and
he
hath
barley
there;
go
and
set
it
on
fire.
And
Absaloms
servants
set
the
field
on
fire.
31
Then
Joab
arose,
and
came
to
Absalom
unto
his
house,
and
said
unto
him,
Wherefore
have
thy
servants
set
my
field
on
fire?
32
And
Absalom
answered
Joab,
Behold,
I
sent
unto
thee,
saying,
Come
hither,
that
I
may
send
thee
to
the
king,
to
say,
Wherefore
am
I
come
from
Geshur?
it
were
better
for
me
to
be
there
still.
Now
therefore
let
me
see
the
kings
face;
and
if
there
be
iniquity
in
me,
let
him
kill
me.
33
So
Joab
came
to
the
king,
and
told
him;
and
when
he
had
called
for
Absalom,
he
came
to
the
king,
and
bowed
himself
on
his
face
to
the
ground
before
the
king:
and
the
king
kissed
Absalom.

he
killed,
and
so
destroy
the
heir
also.
Thus
will
they
quench
my
coal
which
is
left,
and
will
leave
to
my
husband
neither
name
nor
remainder
on
the
surface
of
the
earth.
8
The
king
said
to
the
woman,
Go
to
your
house,
and
I
will
give
charge
concerning
you.
9
The
woman
of
Tekoa
said
to
the
king,
My
lord,
O
king,
the
iniquity
be
on
me,
and
on
my
father's
house;
and
the
king
and
his
throne
be
guiltless.
10
The
king
said,
Whoever
says
anything
to
you,
bring
him
to
me,
and
he
shall
not
touch
you
any
more.
11
Then
said
she,
Please
let
the
king
remember
Yahweh
your
God,
that
the
avenger
of
blood
destroy
not
any
more,
lest
they
destroy
my
son.
He
said,
As
Yahweh
lives,
there
shall
not
one
hair
of
your
son
fall
to
the
earth.
12
Then
the
woman
said,
Please
let
your
handmaid
speak
a
word
to
my
lord
the
king.
He
said,
Say
on.
13
The
woman
said,
Why
then
have
you
devised
such
a
thing
against
the
people
of
God?
for
in
speaking
this
word
the
king
is
as
one
who
is
guilty,
in
that
the
king
does
not
bring
home
again
his
banished
one.
14
For
we
must
needs
die,
and
are
as
water
split
on
the
ground,
which
can't
be
gathered
up
again;
neither
does
God
take
away
life,
but
devises
means,
that
he
who
is
banished
not
be
an
outcast
from
him.
15
Now
therefore
seeing
that
I
have
come
to
speak
this
word
to
my
lord
the
king,
it
is
because
the
people
have
made
me
afraid:
and
your
handmaid
said,
I
will
now
speak
to
the
king;
it
may
be
that
the
king
will
perform
the
request
of
his
servant.
16
For
the
king
will
hear,
to
deliver
his
servant
out
of
the
hand
of
the
man
who
would
destroy
me
and
my
son
together
out
of
the
inheritance
of
God.
17
Then
your
handmaid
said,
Please
let
the
word
of
my
lord
the
king
be
comfortable;
for
as
an
angel
of
God,
so
is
my
lord
the
king
to
discern
good
and
bad:
and
Yahweh
your
God
be
with
you.
18
Then
the
king
answered
the
woman,
Please
don't
hide
anything
from
me
that
I
shall
ask
you.
The
woman
said,
Let
my
lord
the
king
now
speak.
19
The
king
said,
Is
the
hand
of
Joab
with
you
in
all
this?
The
woman
answered,
As
your
soul
lives,
my
lord
the
king,
none
can
turn
to
the
right
hand
or
to
the
left
from
anything
that
my
lord
the
king
has
spoken;
for
your
servant
Joab,
he
bade
me,
and
he
put
all
these
words
in
the
mouth
of
your
handmaid;
20
to
change
the
face
of
the
matter
has
your
servant
Joab
done
this
thing:
and
my
lord
is
wise,
according
to
the
wisdom
of
an
angel
of
God,
to
know
all
things
that
are
in
the
earth.
21
The
king
said
to
Joab,
Behold
now,
I
have
done
this
thing:
go
therefore,
bring
the
young
man
Absalom
back.
22
Joab
fell
to
the
ground
on
his
face,
and
did
obeisance,
and
blessed
the
king:
and
Joab
said,
Today
your
servant
knows
that
I
have
found
favor
in
your
sight,
my
lord,
king,
in
that
the
king
has
performed
the
request
of
his
servant.
23
So
Joab
arose
and
went
to
Geshur,
and
brought
Absalom
to
Jerusalem.
24
The
king
said,
Let
him
turn
to
his
own
house,
but
let
him
not
see
my
face.
So
Absalom
turned
to
his
own
house,
and
didn't
see
the
king's
face.
25
Now
in
all
Israel
there
was
none
to
be
so
much
praised
as
Absalom
for
his
beauty:
from
the
sole
of
his
foot
even
to
the
crown
of
his
head
there
was
no
blemish
in
him.
26
When
he
cut
the
hair
of
his
head
(now
it
was
at
every
year's
end
that
he
cut
it;
because
it
was
heavy
on
him,
therefore
he
cut
it);
he
weighed
the
hair
of
his
head
at
two
hundred
shekels,
after
the
king's
weight.
27
To
Absalom
there
were
born
three
sons,
and
one
daughter,
whose
name
was
Tamar:
she
was
a
woman
of
a
beautiful
face.
28
Absalom
lived
two
full
years
in
Jerusalem;
and
he
didn't
see
the
king's
face.
29
Then
Absalom
sent
for
Joab,
to
send
him
to
the
king;
but
he
would
not
come
to
him:
and
he
sent
again
a
second
time,
but
he
would
not
come.
30
Therefore
he
said
to
his
servants,
Behold,
Joab's
field
is
near
mine,
and
he
has
barley
there;
go
and
set
it
on
fire.
Absalom's
servants
set
the
field
on
fire.
31
Then
Joab
arose,
and
came
to
Absalom
to
his
house,
and
said
to
him,
Why
have
your
servants
set
my
field
on
fire?
32
Absalom
answered
Joab,
Behold,
I
sent
to
you,
saying,
Come
here,
that
I
may
send
you
to
the
king,
to
say,
Why
am
I
come
from
Geshur?
it
were
better
for
me

be
there
still.
Now
therefore
let
me
see
the
king's
face;
and
if
there
be
iniquity
in
me,
let
him
kill
me.
33
So
Joab
came
to
the
king,
and
told
him;
and
when
he
had
called
for
Absalom,
he
came
to
the
king,
and
bowed
himself
on
his
face
to
the
ground
before
the
king:
and
the
king
kissed
Absalom.

and
so
they
shall
quench
my
coal
which
is
left,
and
shall
not
leave
to
my
husband
neither
name
nor
remainder
on
the
earth.
8
And
the
king
said
to
the
woman,
Go
to
your
house,
and
I
will
give
charge
concerning
you.
9
And
the
woman
of
Tekoah
said
to
the
king,
My
lord,
O
king,
the
iniquity
be
on
me,
and
on
my
father's
house:
and
the
king
and
his
throne
be
guiltless.
10
And
the
king
said,
Whoever
said
ought
to
you,
bring
him
to
me,
and
he
shall
not
touch
you
any
more.
11
Then
said
she,
I
pray
you,
let
the
king
remember
the
LORD
your
God,
that
you
would
not
suffer
the
revengers
of
blood
to
destroy
any
more,
lest
they
destroy
my
son.
And
he
said,
As
the
LORD
lives,
there
shall
not
one
hair
of
your
son
fall
to
the
earth.
12
Then
the
woman
said,
Let
your
handmaid,
I
pray
you,
speak
one
word
to
my
lord
the
king.
And
he
said,
Say
on.
13
And
the
woman
said,
Why
then
have
you
thought
such
a
thing
against
the
people
of
God?
for
the
king
does
speak
this
thing
as
one
which
is
faulty,
in
that
the
king
does
not
fetch
home
again
his
banished.
14
For
we
must
needs
die,
and
are
as
water
spilt
on
the
ground,
which
cannot
be
gathered
up
again;
neither
does
God
respect
any
person:
yet
does
he
devise
means,
that
his
banished
be
not
expelled
from
him.
15
Now
therefore
that
I
am
come
to
speak
of
this
thing
to
my
lord
the
king,
it
is
because
the
people
have
made
me
afraid:
and
your
handmaid
said,
I
will
now
speak
to
the
king;
it
may
be
that
the
king
will
perform
the
request
of
his
handmaid.
16
For
the
king
will
hear,
to
deliver
his
handmaid
out
of
the
hand
of
the
man
that
would
destroy
me
and
my
son
together
out
of
the
inheritance
of
God.
17
Then
your
handmaid
said,
The
word
of
my
lord
the
king
shall
now
be
comfortable:
for
as
an
angel
of
God,
so
is
my
lord
the
king
to
discern
good
and
bad:
therefore
the
LORD
your
God
will
be
with
you.
18
Then
the
king
answered
and
said
to
the
woman,
Hide
not
from
me,
I
pray
you,
the
thing
that
I
shall
ask
you.
And
the
woman
said,
Let
my
lord
the
king
now
speak.
19
And
the
king
said,
Is
not
the
hand
of
Joab
with
you
in
all
this?
And
the
woman
answered
and
said,
As
your
soul
lives,
my
lord
the
king,
none
can
turn
to
the
right
hand
or
to
the
left
from
ought
that
my
lord
the
king
has
spoken:
for
your
servant
Joab,
he
bade
me,
and
he
put
all
these
words
in
the
mouth
of
your
handmaid:
20
To
fetch
about
this
form
of
speech
has
your
servant
Joab
done
this
thing:
and
my
lord
is
wise,
according
to
the
wisdom
of
an
angel
of
God,
to
know
all
things
that
are
in
the
earth.
21
And
the
king
said
to
Joab,
Behold
now,
I
have
done
this
thing:
go
therefore,
bring
the
young
man
Absalom
again.
22
And
Joab
fell
to
the
ground
on
his
face,
and
bowed
himself,
and
thanked
the
king:
and
Joab
said,
To
day
your
servant
knows
that
I
have
found
grace
in
your
sight,
my
lord,
O
king,
in
that
the
king
has
fulfilled
the
request
of
his
servant.
23
So
Joab
arose
and
went
to
Geshur,
and
brought
Absalom
to
Jerusalem.
24
And
the
king
said,
Let
him
turn
to
his
own
house,
and
let
him
not
see
my
face.
So
Absalom
returned
to
his
own
house,
and
saw
not
the
king's
face.
25
But
in
all
Israel
there
was
none
to
be
so
much
praised
as
Absalom
for
his
beauty:
from
the
sole
of
his
foot
even
to
the
crown
of
his
head
there
was
no
blemish
in
him.
26
And
when
he
polled
his
head,
(for
it
was
at
every
year's
end
that
he
polled
it:
because
the
hair
was
heavy
on
him,
therefore
he
polled
it:)
he
weighed
the
hair
of
his
head
at
two
hundred
shekels
after
the
king's
weight.
27
And
to
Absalom
there
were
born
three
sons,
and
one
daughter,
whose
name
was
Tamar:
she
was
a
woman
of
a
fair
countenance.
28
So
Absalom
dwelled
two
full
years
in
Jerusalem,
and
saw
not
the
king's
face.
29
Therefore
Absalom
sent
for
Joab,
to
have
sent
him
to
the
king;
but
he
would
not
come
to
him:
and
when
he
sent
again
the
second
time,
he
would
not
come.
30
Therefore
he
said
to
his
servants,
See,
Joab's
field
is
near
mine,
and
he
has
barley
there;
go
and
set
it
on
fire.
And
Absalom's
servants
set
the
field
on
fire.
31
Then
Joab
arose,
and
came
to
Absalom
to
his
house,
and
said
to
him,
Why
have
your
servants
set
my
field
on
fire?
32
And
Absalom
answered
Joab,
Behold,
I
sent
to
you,
saying,
Come
here,
that
I
may
send
you
to
the
king,
to
say,
Why
am
I
come
from
Geshur?
it
had
been
good
for
me
to
have
been
there
still:
now
therefore
let
me
see
the
king's
face;
and
if
there
be
any
iniquity
in
me,
let
him
kill
me.
33
So
Joab
came
to
the
king,
and
told
him:
and
when
he
had
called
for
Absalom,
he
came
to
the
king,
and
bowed
himself
on
his
face
to
the
ground
before
the
king:
and
the
king
kissed
Absalom.
Ezekiel 18:31

Cast
away
from
you
all
your
transgressions,
whereby
you
have
transgressed;
and
make
you
a

and
a
new
spirit:
for
why
will
you
die,
O
house
of
Israel?
2 Peter 3:9

The
Lord
is
not
slack
concerning
his
promise,
as
some
men
count
slackness;
but
is
long-suffering
to
us-ward,
not
willing
that
any
should
perish,
but
that
all
should
come
to
repentance.

1
Now
Joab
son
of
Zeruiah
realized
that
the
king
longed
to
see
Absalom.
2
So
Joab
sent
to
Tekoa
and
brought
from
there
a
wise
woman.
He
told
her,
"Pretend
to
be
in
mourning
and
put
on
garments
for
mourning.
Don't
anoint
yourself
with
oil.
Instead,
act
like
a
woman
who
has
been
mourning
for
the
dead
for
some
time.
3
Go
to
the
king
and
speak
to
him
in
the
following
fashion."
Then
Joab
told
her
what
to
say.
4
So
the
Tekoan
woman
went
to
the
king.
She
bowed
down
with
her
face
to
the
ground
in
deference
to
him
and
said,
"Please
help
me,
O
king!"
5
The
king
replied
to
her,
"What
do
you
want?"
She
answered,
"I
am
a
widow;
my
husband
is
dead.
6
Your
servant
has
two
sons.
When
the
two
of
them
got
into
a
fight
in
the
field,
there
was
no
one
present
who
could
intervene.
One
of
them
struck
the
other
and
killed
him.
7
Now
the
entire
family
has
risen
up
against
your
servant,
saying,
'Turn
over
the
one
who
struck
down
his
brother,
so
that
we
can
execute
him
and
avenge
the
death
of
his
brother
whom
he
killed.
In
so
doing
we
will
also
destroy
the
heir.'
They
want
to
extinguish
my
remaining
coal,
leaving
no
one
on
the
face
of
the
earth
to
carry
on
the
name
of
my
husband."
8
Then
the
king
told
the
woman,
"Go
to
your
home.
I
will
give
instructions
concerning
your
situation."
9
The
Tekoan
woman
said
to
the
king,
"My
lord
the
king,
let
any
blame
fall
on
me
and
on
the
house
of
my
father.
But
let
the
king
and
his
throne
be
innocent!"
10
The
king
said,
"Bring
to
me
whoever
speaks
to
you,
and
he
won't
bother
you
again!"
11
She
replied,
"In
that
case,
let
the
king
invoke
the
name
of
the
LORD
your
God
so
that
the
avenger
of
blood
may
not
kill!
Then
they
will
not
destroy
my
son!"
He
replied,
"As
surely
as
the
LORD
lives,
not
a
single
hair
of
your
son's
head
will
fall
to
the
ground."
12
Then
the
woman
said,
"Please
permit
your
servant
to
speak
to
my
lord
the
king
about
another
matter."
He
replied,
"Tell
me."
13
The
woman
said,
"Why
have
you
devised
something
like
this
against
God's
people?
When
the
king
speaks
in
this
fashion,
he
makes
himself
guilty,
for
the
king
has
not
brought
back
the
one
he
has
banished.
14
Certainly
we
must
die,
and
are
like
water
spilled
on
the
ground
that
cannot
be
gathered
up
again.
But
God
does
not
take
away
life;
instead
he
devises
ways
for
the
banished
to
be
restored.
15
I
have
now
come
to
speak
with
my
lord
the
king
about
this
matter,
because
the
people
have
made
me
fearful.
But
your
servant
said,
'I
will
speak
to
the
king!
Perhaps
the
king
will
do
what
his
female
servant
asks.
16
Yes!
The
king
may
listen
and
deliver
his
female
servant
from
the
hand
of
the
man
who
seeks
to
remove
both
me
and
my
son
from
the
inheritance
God
has
given
us!'
17
So
your
servant
said,
'May
the
word
of
my
lord
the
king
be
my
security,
for
my
lord
the
king
is
like
the
angel
of
God
when
it
comes
to
deciding
between
right
and
wrong!
May
the
LORD
your
God
be
with
you!'"
18
Then
the
king
replied
to
the
woman,
"Don't
hide
any
information
from
me
when
I
question
you."
The
woman
said,
"Let
my
lord
the
king
speak!"
19
The
king
said,
"Did
Joab
put
you
up
to
all
of
this?"
The
woman
answered,
"As
surely
as
you
live,
my
lord
the
king,
there
is
no
deviation
to
the
right
or
to
the
left
from
all
that
my
lord
the
king
has
said.
For
your
servant
Joab
gave
me
instructions.
He
has
put
all
these
words
in
your
servant's
mouth.
20
Your
servant
Joab
did
this
so
as
to
change
this
situation.
But
my
lord
has
wisdom
like
that
of
the
angel
of
God,
and
knows
everything
that
is
happening
in
the
land."
21
Then
the
king
said
to
Joab,
"All
right!
I
will
do
this
thing!
Go
and
bring
back
the
young
man
Absalom!
22
Then
Joab
bowed
down
with
his
face
toward
the
ground
and
thanked
the
king.
Joab
said,
"Today
your
servant
knows
that
I
have
found
favor
in
your
sight,
my
lord
the
king,
because
the
king
has
granted
the
request
of
your
servant!"
23
So
Joab
got
up
and
went
to
Geshur
and
brought
Absalom
back
to
Jerusalem.
24
But
the
king
said,
"Let
him
go
over
to
his
own
house.
He
may
not
see
my
face."
So
Absalom
went
over
to
his
own
house;
he
did
not
see
the
king's
face.
25
Now
in
all
Israel
everyone
acknowledged
that
there
was
no
man
as
handsome
as
Absalom.
From
the
sole
of
his
feet
to
the
top
of
his
head
he
was
perfect
in
appearance.
26
When
he
would
shave
his
head—
at
the
end
of
every
year
he
used
to
shave
his
head,
for
it
grew
too
long
and
he
would
shave
it—
he
used
to
weigh
the
hair
of
his
head
at
three
pounds
according
to
the
king's
weight.
27
Absalom
had
three
sons
and
one
daughter,
whose
name
was
Tamar.
She
was
a
very
attractive
woman.
28
Absalom
lived
in
Jerusalem
for
two
years
without
seeing
the
king's
face.
29
Then
Absalom
sent
a
message
to
Joab
asking
him
to
send
him
to
the
king,
but
Joab
was
not
willing
to
come
to
him.
So
he
sent
a
second
message
to
him,
but
he
still
was
not
willing
to
come.
30
So
he
said
to
his
servants,
"Look,
Joab
has
a
portion
of
field
adjacent
to
mine
and
he
has
some
barley
there.
Go
and
set
it
on
fire."
So
Absalom's
servants
set
Joab's
portion
of
the
field
on
fire.
31
Then
Joab
got
up
and
came
to
Absalom's
house.
He
said
to
him,
"Why
did
your
servants
set
my
portion
of
field
on
fire?"
32
Absalom
said
to
Joab,
"Look,
I
sent
a
message
to
you
saying,
'Come
here
so
that
I
can
send
you
to
the
king
with
this
message:
"Why
have
I
come
from
Geshur?
It
would
be
better
for
me
if
I
were
still
there."'
Let
me
now
see
the
face
of
the
king.
If
I
am
at
fault,
let
him
put
me
to
death!"
33
So
Joab
went
to
the
king
and
informed
him.
The
king
summoned
Absalom,
and
he
came
to
the
king.
Absalom
bowed
down
before
the
king
with
his
face
toward
the
ground
and
the
king
kissed
him.

father's
property.
So
my
dead
husband's
property
will
go
to
someone
else
and
his
name
will
be
removed
from
the
land."
8
Then
the
king
said
to
the
woman,
"Go
home.
I
will
take
care
of
things
for
you."
9
The
woman
of
Tekoa
said
to
the
king,
"Let
the
blame
be
on
me,
my
lord
and
king.
You
and
your
kingdom
are
innocent."
10
King
David
said,
"If
anyone
is
saying
bad
things
to
you,
bring
them
to
me.
They
will
not
bother
you
again."
11
The
woman
said,
"Please,
use
the
name
of
the
Lord
your
God
and
swear
that
you
will
stop
these
people.
They
want
to
punish
my
son
for
murdering
his
brother.
Swear
that
you
will
not
let
them
destroy
my
son."
David
said,
"As
the
Lord
lives,
no
one
will
hurt
your
son.
Not
even
one
hair
from
your
son's
head
will
fall
to
the
ground."
12
The
woman
said,
"My
lord
and
king,
please
let
me
say
something
else
to
you."
The
king
said,
"Speak."
13
Then
the
woman
said,
"Why
have
you
planned
these
things
against
the
people
of
God?
When
you
say
these
things,
you
show
you
are
guilty
because
you
have
not
brought
back
the
son
who
you
forced
to
leave
home.
14
We
will
all
die
some
day.
We
will
be
like
water
that
is
spilled
on
the
ground.
No
one
can
gather
this
water
back
from
the
ground.
You
know
God
forgives
people.
God
made
plans
for
people
who
are
forced
to
run
away
for
safety—God
does
not
force
them
to
run
away
from
him!
15
My
lord
and
king,
I
came
to
say
these
words
to
you,
because
the
people
made
me
afraid.
I
said
to
myself,
'I
will
talk
to
the
king.
Maybe
the
king
will
help
me.
16
The
king
will
listen
to
me
and
save
me
from
the
man
who
wants
to
kill
me
and
my
son.
That
man
just
wants
to
keep
us
from
getting
what
God
gave
us.'
17
I
know
that
the
words
of
my
lord
the
king
will
give
me
rest,
because
you
are
like
an
angel
from
God.
You
know
what
is
good
and
what
is
bad.
And
the
Lord
your
God
is
with
you."
18
King
David
answered
the
woman,
"You
must
answer
the
question
I
will
ask
you."
The
woman
said,
"My
lord
and
king,
please
ask
your
question."
19
The
king
said,
"Did
Joab
tell
you
to
say
all
these
things?"
The
woman
answered,
"As
you
live,
my
lord
and
king,
you
are
right.
Your
officer
Joab
did
tell
me
to
say
these
things.
20
Joab
did
this
so
that
you
would
see
things
differently.
My
lord,
you
are
as
wise
as
God's
angel.
You
know
everything
that
happens
on
earth."
21
The
king
said
to
Joab,
"Look,
I
will
do
what
I
promised.
Now
please
bring
back
the
young
man
Absalom."
22
Joab
bowed
with
his
face
on
the
ground.
He
blessed
King
David,
and
said,
"Today
I
know
that
you
are
pleased
with
me.
I
know
because
you
have
done
what
I
asked."
23
Then
Joab
got
up
and
went
to
Geshur
and
brought
Absalom
to
Jerusalem.
24
But
King
David
said,
"Absalom
must
go
back
to
his
own
house.
He
cannot
come
to
see
me."
So
Absalom
went
back
to
his
own
house,
but
he
could
not
go
to
see
the
king.
25
People
really
bragged
about
how
goodlooking
Absalom
was.
No
man
in
Israel
was
as
handsome
as
Absalom.
Every
part
of
his
body
was
perfect—from
his
head
to
his
feet.
26
At
the
end
of
every
year,
Absalom
cut
the
hair
from
his
head
and
weighed
it.
The
hair
weighed
about
five
pounds.
27
Absalom
had
three
sons
and
one
daughter.
Her
name
was
Tamar,
and
she
was
a
beautiful
woman.
28
Absalom
lived
in
Jerusalem
for
two
full
years
without
being
allowed
to
visit
King
David.
29
Absalom
sent
a
message
to
Joab,
asking
for
permission
to
see
the
king,
but
Joab
refused
to
come
see
him.
So
Absalom
sent
a
second
message
to
Joab.
Again,
Joab
refused
to
come
see
him.
30
Then
Absalom
said
to
his
servants,
"Look,
Joab's
field
is
next
to
my
field.
He
has
barley
growing
in
that
field.
Go
burn
the
barley."
So
Absalom's
servants
went
and
started
a
fire
in
Joab's
field.
31
Joab
got
up
and
came
to
Absalom's
house
and
said
to
Absalom,
"Why
did
your
servants
burn
my
field?"
32
Absalom
said
to
Joab,
"I
sent
a
message
to
you.
I
asked
you
to
come
here.
I
wanted
to
send
you
to
the
king
to
ask
him
why
he
asked
me
to
come
home
from
Geshur.
I
cannot
see
him,
so
it
would
have
been
better
for
me
to
stay
in
Geshur.
Now
let
me
see
the
king.
If
I
have
sinned,
he
can
kill
me!"
33
Then
Joab
came
to
the
king
and
told
him
what
Absalom
said.
The
king
called
for
Absalom.
Absalom
came
to
the
king
and
bowed
low
on
the
ground
before
the
king.
The
king
kissed
him.
Ezekiel 18:31
31
Throw
away
all
the
disgusting
idols
with
which
you
committed
your
crimes!
Change
your
heart
and
spirit.
People
of
Israel,
why
should
you
do
things
that
will
cost
you
your
life?
2 Peter 3:9
9
The
Lord
is
not
being
slow
in
doing
what
he
promised—the
way
some
people
understand
slowness.
But
God
is
being
patient
with
you.
He
doesn't
want
anyone
to
be
lost.
He
wants
everyone
to
change
their
ways
and
stop
sinning.

1
And
Joab
the
son
of
Saruia
knew
that
the
heart
of
the
king
was
toward
Abessalom.
2
And
Joab
sent
to
Thecoe,
and
took
thence
a
cunning
woman,
and
said
to
her,
Mourn,
I
pray
thee,
and
put
on
mourning
apparel,
and
anoint
thee
not
with
oil,
and
thou
shalt
be
as
a
woman
mourning
for
one
that
is
dead
thus
for
many
days.
3
And
thou
shalt
go
to
the
king,
and
speak
to
him
according
to
this
word.
And
Joab
put
the
words
in
her
mouth.
4
So
the
woman
of
Thecoe
went
in
to
the
king
and
fell
upon
her
face
to
the
earth,
and
did
him
obeisance,
and
said,
Or,
save
Help,
O
king,
help.
5
And
the
king
said
to
her,
What
is
the
matter
with
thee?
And
she
said,
I
am
indeed
a
widow
woman,
and
my
husband
is
dead.
6
And
moreover
thy
handmaid
had
two
sons,
and
they
fought
Gr.
both
together
in
the
field,
and
there
was
no
one
to
part
them;
and
the
one
smote
the
other
his
brother,
and
slew
him.
7
And
behold
the
whole
family
rose
up
against
thine
handmaid,
and
they
said,
Give
up
the
one
that
smote
his
brother,
and
we
will
put
him
to
death
for
the
life
of
his
brother,
whom
he
slew,
and
we
will
take
away
even
your
heir:
so
they
will
quench
my
coal
that
is
left,
so
as
not
to
Gr.
place
leave
my
husband
remnant
or
name
on
the
face
of
the
earth.
8
And
the
king
said
to
the
woman,
Gr.
in
health
Go
in
peace
to
thy
house,
and
I
will
give
commandment
concerning
thee.
9
And
the
woman
of
Thecoe
said
to
the
king,
On
me,
my
lord,
O
king,
and
on
my
father’s
house
be
the
iniquity,
and
the
king
and
his
throne
be
guiltless.
10
And
the
king
said,
Who
was
it
that
spoke
to
thee?
thou
shalt
even
bring
him
to
me,
and
one
shall
not
touch
q.
d.
they
son
him
any
more.
11
And
she
said,
Let
now
the
king
remember
concerning
his
Lord
God
in
that
the
avenger
of
blood
is
multiplied
to
destroy,
and
let
them
not
take
away
my
son.
And
he
said,
As
the
lord
lives,
not
a
hair
of
thy
son
shall
fall
to
the
ground.
12
And
the
woman
said,
Let
now
thy
servant
speak
a
word
to
my
lord
the
king.
And
he
said,
Say
on.
13
And
the
woman
said,
Why
hast
thou
devised
this
thing
against
the
people
of
God?
or
is
this
word
out
of
the
king’s
mouth
as
a
transgression,
so
that
the
king
should
not
bring
back
his
banished?
14
For
we
shall
surely
die,
and
be
as
water
poured
upon
the
earth,
which
shall
not
be
gathered
up,
and
God
shall
take
the
life,
even
as
he
devises
to
thrust
forth
from
him
his
outcast.
15
And
now
whereas
I
came
to
speak
this
word
to
my
lord
the
king,
the
reason
is
that
the
people
will
see
me,
and
thy
handmaid
will
say,
Let
one
now
speak
to
my
lord
the
king,
if
peradventure
the
king
will
perform
the
request
of
his
handmaid;
16
for
the
king
will
hear.
Let
him
rescue
his
handmaid
out
of
the
hand
of
the
man
that
seeks
to
cast
out
me
and
my
son
from
the
inheritance
of
God.
17
And
the
woman
said,
If
now
the
word
of
my
lord
the
king
be
gracious,
—well:
for
as
an
angel
of
God,
so
is
my
lord
the
king,
to
hear
good
and
evil:
and
the
Lord
thy
God
shall
be
with
thee.
18
And
the
king
answered,
and
said
to
the
woman,
Hide
not
from
me,
I
pray
thee,
the
matter
which
I
ask
thee.
And
the
woman
said,
Let
my
lord
the
king
by
all
means
speak.
19
And
the
king
said,
Is
not
the
hand
of
Joab
in
all
this
matter
with
thee?
and
the
woman
said
to
the
king,
As
thy
soul
lives,
my
lord,
O
king,
Gr.
If
there
is,
etc.
there
is
no
turning
to
the
right
hand
or
to
the
left
from
all
that
my
lord
the
king
has
spoken;
for
thy
servant
Joab
himself
charged
me,
and
he
put
all
these
words
in
the
mouth
of
thine
handmaid.
20
In
order
that
this
form
of
speech
might
come
about
it
was
that
thy
servant
Joab
has
framed
this
matter:
and
my
lord
is
wise
as
is
the
wisdom
of
an
angel
of
God,
to
know
all
things
that
are
in
the
earth.
21
And
the
king
said
to
Joab,
Behold
now,
I
have
done
to
thee
according
to
this
thy
word:
go,
bring
back
the
young
man
Abessalom.
22
And
Joab
fell
on
his
face
to
the
ground,
and
did
obeisance,
and
blessed
the
king:
and
Joab
said,
To-day
thy
servant
knows
that
I
have
found
grace
in
thy
sight,
my
lord,
O
king,
for
my
lord
the
king
has
performed
the
request
of
his
servant.
23
And
Joab
arose,
and
went
to
Gedsur,
and
brought
Abessalom
to
Jerusalem.
24
And
the
king
said,
Let
him
return
to
his
house,
and
not
see
my
face.
And
Abessalom
returned
to
his
house,
and
saw
not
the
king’s
face.
25
And
there
was
not
a
man
in
Israel
so
Gr.
praised
very
comely
as
Abessalom:
from
the
sole
of
his
foot
even
to
the
crown
of
his
head
there
was
no
blemish
in
him.
26
And
when
he
polled
his
head,
(and
it
was
Gr.
from
the
beginning
of
days
to
days;
Hebraism
at
the
beginning
of
every
year
that
he
polled
it,
because
it
grew,
heavy
upon
him,)
even
when
he
polled
it,
he
weighed
the
hair
of
his
head,
two
hundred
shekels
according
to
the
royal
shekel.
27
And
there
were
born
to
Abessalom
three
sons
and
one
daughter,
and
her
name
was
Themar:
she
was
a
very
beautiful
woman,
and
she
becomes
the
wife
of
Roboam
son
of
Solomon,
and
she
bears
to
him
Abia.
28
And
Abessalom
remained
in
Jerusalem
two
Gr.
years
of
days
full
years,
and
he
saw
not
the
king’s
face.
29
And
Abessalom
sent
to
Joab
to
bring
him
in
to
the
king,
and
he
would
not
come
to
him:
and
he
sent
to
him
the
second
time,
and
he
would
not
come.
30
And
Abessalom
said
to
his
servants,
Behold,
Joab’s
portion
in
the
field
is
next
to
mine,
and
he
has
in
it
barley;
go
and
set
it
on
fire.
And
the
servants
of
Abessalom
set
the
field
on
fire:
and
the
servants
of
Joab
come
to
him
with
their
clothes
rent,
and
they
said
to
him,
The
servants
of
Abessalom
have
set
the
field
on
fire.
31
And
Joab
arose,
and
came
to
Abessalom
into
the
house,
and
said
to
him,
Why
have
thy
servants
set
my
field
on
fire?
32
And
Abessalom
said
to
Joab,
Behold,
I
sent
to
thee,
saying,
Come
hither,
and
I
will
send
thee
to
the
king,
saying,
Why
did
I
come
out
of
Gedsur?
it
would
have
been
better
for
me
to
have
remained
there:
and
now,
behold,
I
have
not
seen
the
face
of
the
king;
but
if
there
is
iniquity
in
me,
then
put
me
to
death.
33
And
Joab
went
in
to
the
king,
and
brought
him
word:
and
he
called
Abessalom,
and
he
went
in
to
the
king,
and
did
him
obeisance,
and
fell
upon
his
face
to
the
ground,
even
in
the
presence
of
the
king;
and
the
king
kissed
Abessalom.

whole
family
has
come
against
your
woman
servant.
They
say,
'Give
us
the
one
who
killed
his
brother.
We
must
put
him
to
death
for
the
life
of
his
brother
whom
he
killed.'
So
I
would
be
without
a
son
to
receive
what
belonged
to
his
parents
when
I
die.
They
would
put
out
the
last
of
the
fire
which
is
left
to
me.
My
husband
would
be
left
without
a
name
and
with
no
children
on
the
earth."
8
Then
the
king
said
to
the
woman,
"Go
to
your
house.
I
will
say
what
should
be
done
about
your
trouble."
9
The
woman
of
Tekoa
said
to
the
king,
"O
my
lord
the
king,
the
sin
is
on
me
and
my
father's
family.
But
the
king
and
his
throne
are
without
guilt."
10
The
king
said,
"If
anyone
says
anything
to
you,
bring
him
to
me.
And
he
will
not
touch
you
again."
11
Then
she
said,
"I
beg
the
king
to
remember
the
Lord
your
God,
that
the
one
who
punishes
for
blood
will
stop
destroying.
Or
my
son
might
be
destroyed."
And
the
king
said,
"As
the
Lord
lives,
not
one
hair
of
your
son
will
fall
to
the
ground."
12
Then
the
woman
said,
"Let
your
woman
servant
speak
to
my
lord
the
king."
And
he
said,
"Speak."
13
The
woman
said,
"Why
then
have
you
planned
such
a
thing
against
the
people
of
God?
For
in
deciding
in
this
way,
the
king
is
as
one
who
is
guilty.
For
the
king
does
not
bring
home
his
son
who
has
been
driven
away.
14
It
is
sure
that
we
will
die.
We
are
like
water
poured
on
the
ground,
which
cannot
be
picked
up
again.
But
God
does
not
take
away
life.
He
plans
ways
so
that
the
one
who
is
driven
away
may
not
be
kept
away
from
Him.
15
I
have
come
to
say
this
to
my
lord
the
king
because
the
people
have
made
me
afraid.
Your
woman
servant
thought,
'I
will
speak
to
the
king.
It
might
be
that
the
king
will
do
what
his
woman
servant
asks.
16
For
the
king
will
hear
and
save
his
woman
servant
from
the
man
who
would
destroy
both
me
and
my
son
from
the
gift
of
God.'
17
Then
your
woman
servant
thought,
'The
word
of
my
lord
the
king
will
comfort
me.
For
my
lord
the
king
is
like
the
angel
of
God
in
understanding
what
is
good
and
bad.
May
the
Lord
your
God
be
with
you.'
"
18
Then
the
king
said
to
the
woman,
"Do
not
hide
anything
from
me
that
I
ask
you."
And
the
woman
said,
"Let
my
lord
the
king
speak."
19
So
the
king
said,
"Is
Joab
with
you
in
all
this?"
The
woman
answered,
"As
your
soul
lives,
my
lord
the
king,
no
one
can
turn
to
the
right
or
left
from
anything
my
lord
the
king
has
said.
Yes,
it
was
your
servant
Joab
who
told
me
to
do
this.
It
was
he
who
put
all
these
words
in
the
mouth
of
your
woman
servant.
20
Your
servant
Joab
has
done
this
to
change
the
way
things
are
now.
But
my
lord
is
wise
like
the
angel
of
God,
to
know
all
that
is
on
the
earth."
21
Then
the
king
said
to
Joab,
"See
now,
I
will
do
this.
Go
and
bring
back
the
young
man
Absalom."
22
And
Joab
fell
on
his
face
to
the
ground
in
honor
and
thanks
to
the
king.
Joab
said,
"Today
your
servant
knows
that
I
have
found
favor
in
your
eyes,
O
my
lord
the
king.
Because
the
king
has
done
what
his
servant
has
asked
of
him."
23
So
Joab
got
up
and
went
to
Geshur,
and
brought
Absalom
to
Jerusalem.
24
But
the
king
said,
"Let
him
go
to
his
own
house.
Do
not
let
him
see
my
face."
So
Absalom
went
to
his
own
house
and
did
not
see
the
king's
face.
25
Now
there
was
no
one
in
Israel
as
good
looking
and
as
much
praised
as
Absalom.
There
was
nothing
wrong
with
him
from
the
bottom
of
his
foot
to
the
top
of
his
head.
26
At
the
end
of
every
year
he
would
cut
the
hair
from
his
head,
for
it
was
heavy
on
him.
When
he
cut
it,
he
weighed
the
hair
of
his
head.
It
weighed
as
much
as
200
pieces
of
silver,
by
the
king's
weight.
27
Three
sons
were
born
to
Absalom,
and
one
daughter
whose
name
was
Tamar.
She
was
a
beautiful
woman.
28
Absalom
lived
two
whole
years
in
Jerusalem,
and
did
not
see
the
king's
face.
29
Then
Absalom
sent
for
Joab,
to
send
him
to
the
king.
But
Joab
would
not
come
to
him.
So
he
sent
for
him
a
second
time.
But
he
would
not
come.
30
He
said
to
his
servants,
"See,
Joab's
field
is
next
to
mine,
and
he
has
barley
there.
Go
and
set
it
on
fire."
So
Absalom's
servants
burned
the
field.
31
Then
Joab
got
up
and
came
to
Absalom
at
his
house,
and
said
to
him,
"Why
have
your
servants
burned
my
field?"
32
Absalom
answered
Joab,
"I
sent
for
you,
saying,
'Come
here,
that
I
may
send
you
to
say
to
the
king,
"Why
have
I
come
from
Geshur?
It
would
have
been
better
for
me
to
stay
there."
'
Now
let
me
see
the
king's
face.
If
there
is
guilt
in
me,
let
him
put
me
to
death."
33
Then
Joab
went
to
the
king
and
told
him.
And
he
called
for
Absalom.
So
he
came
to
the
king
and
put
his
face
to
the
ground
in
front
of
him.
And
the
king
kissed
Absalom.

Turn
away
from
all
the
sins
you
have
done,
and
get
a
new
heart
and
a
new
spirit!
Why
will
you
die,
O
people
of
Israel?
2 Peter 3:9

The
Lord
is
not
slow
about
keeping
His
promise
as
some
people
think.
He
is
waiting
for
you.
The
Lord
does
not
want
any
person
to
be
punished
forever.
He
wants
all
people
to
be
sorry
for
their
sins
and
turn
from
them.

1
Joab
son
of
Zeruiah
knew
that
King
David
missed
Absalom
very
much.
2
So
Joab
sent
messengers
to
Tekoa
to
bring
a
wise
woman
from
there.
He
said
to
her,
"Pretend
to
be
very
sad.
Put
on
funeral
clothes
and
don't
put
lotion
on
yourself.
Act
like
a
woman
who
has
been
crying
many
days
for
someone
who
died.
3
Then
go
to
the
king
and
say
these
words."
Then
Joab
told
her
what
to
say.
4
So
the
woman
from
Tekoa
spoke
to
the
king.
She
bowed
facedown
on
the
ground
to
show
respect
and
said,
"My
king,
help
me!"
5
King
David
asked
her,
"What
is
the
matter?"
The
woman
said,
"I
am
a
widow;
my
husband
is
dead.
6
I
had
two
sons.
They
were
out
in
the
field
fighting,
and
no
one
was
there
to
stop
them.
So
one
son
killed
the
other
son.
7
Now
all
the
family
group
is
against
me.
They
said
to
me,
'Bring
the
son
who
killed
his
brother
so
we
may
kill
him
for
killing
his
brother.
That
way
we
will
also
get
rid
of
the
one
who
would
receive
what
belonged
to
his
father.'
My
son
is
like
the
last
spark
of
a
fire.
He
is
all
I
have
left.
If
they
kill
him,
my
husband's
name
and
property
will
be
gone
from
the
earth."
8
Then
the
king
said
to
the
woman,
"Go
home.
I
will
take
care
of
this
for
you."
9
The
woman
of
Tekoa
said
to
him,
"Let
the
blame
be
on
me
and
my
father's
family.
My
master
and
king,
you
and
your
throne
are
innocent."
10
King
David
said,
"Bring
me
anyone
who
says
anything
bad
to
you.
Then
he
won't
bother
you
again."
11
The
woman
said,
"Please
promise
in
the
name
of
the
Lord
your
God.
Then
my
relative
who
has
the
duty
of
punishing
a
murderer
won't
add
to
the
destruction
by
killing
my
son."
David
said,
"As
surely
as
the
Lord
lives,
no
one
will
hurt
your
son.
Not
one
hair
from
his
head
will
fall
to
the
ground."
12
The
woman
said,
"Let
me
say
something
to
you,
my
master
and
king."
The
king
said,
"Speak."
13
Then
the
woman
said,
"Why
have
you
decided
this
way
against
the
people
of
God?
When
you
judge
this
way,
you
show
that
you
are
guilty
for
not
bringing
back
your
son
who
was
forced
to
leave
home.
14
We
will
all
die
some
day.
We're
like
water
spilled
on
the
ground;
no
one
can
gather
it
back.
But
God
doesn't
take
away
life.
Instead,
he
plans
ways
that
those
who
have
been
sent
away
will
not
have
to
stay
away
from
him!
15
My
master
and
king,
I
came
to
say
this
to
you
because
the
people
have
made
me
afraid!
I
thought,
'Let
me
talk
to
the
king.
Maybe
he
will
do
what
I
ask.
16
Maybe
he
will
listen.
Perhaps
he
will
save
me
from
those
who
want
to
keep
both
me
and
my
son
from
getting
what
God
gave
us.'
17
"Now
I
say,
'May
the
words
of
my
master
the
king
give
me
rest.
Like
an
angel
of
God,
you
know
what
is
good
and
what
is
bad.
May
the
Lord
your
God
be
with
you!'"
18
Then
King
David
said,
"Do
not
hide
the
truth.
Answer
me
one
question."
The
woman
said,
"My
master
the
king,
please
ask
your
question."
19
The
king
said,
"Did
Joab
tell
you
to
say
all
these
things?"
The
woman
answered,
"As
you
live,
my
master
the
king,
no
one
could
avoid
that
question.
You
are
right.
Your
servant
Joab
did
tell
me
to
say
these
things.
20
Joab
did
it
so
you
would
see
things
differently.
My
master,
you
are
wise
like
an
angel
of
God
who
knows
everything
that
happens
on
earth."
21
The
king
said
to
Joab,
"Look,
I
will
do
what
I
promised.
Bring
back
the
young
man
Absalom."
22
Joab
bowed
facedown
on
the
ground
and
blessed
the
king.
Then
he
said,
"Today
I
know
you
are
pleased
with
me,
because
you
have
done
what
I
asked."
23
Then
Joab
got
up
and
went
to
Geshur
and
brought
Absalom
back
to
Jerusalem.
24
But
King
David
said,
"Absalom
must
go
to
his
own
house.
He
may
not
come
to
see
me."
So
Absalom
went
to
his
own
house
and
did
not
go
to
see
the
king.
25
Absalom
was
greatly
praised
for
his
handsome
appearance.
No
man
in
Israel
was
as
handsome
as
he.
No
blemish
was
on
him
from
his
head
to
his
foot.
26
At
the
end
of
every
year,
Absalom
would
cut
his
hair,
because
it
became
too
heavy.
When
he
weighed
it,
it
would
weigh
about
five
pounds
by
the
royal
measure.
27
Absalom
had
three
sons
and
one
daughter.
His
daughter's
name
was
also
Tamar,
and
she
was
a
beautiful
woman.
28
Absalom
lived
in
Jerusalem
for
two
full
years
without
seeing
King
David.
29
Then
Absalom
sent
for
Joab
so
he
could
send
him
to
the
king,
but
Joab
would
not
come.
Absalom
sent
a
message
a
second
time,
but
Joab
still
refused
to
come.
30
Then
Absalom
said
to
his
servants,
"Look,
Joab's
field
is
next
to
mine,
and
he
has
barley
growing
there.
Go
burn
it."
So
Absalom's
servants
set
fire
to
Joab's
field.
31
Then
Joab
went
to
Absalom's
house
and
said
to
him,
"Why
did
your
servants
burn
my
field?"
32
Absalom
said
to
Joab,
"I
sent
a
message
to
you,
asking
you
to
come
here.
I
wanted
to
send
you
to
the
king
to
ask
him
why
he
brought
me
home
from
Geshur.
It
would
have
been
better
for
me
to
stay
there!
Now
let
me
see
the
king.
If
I
have
sinned,
he
can
put
me
to
death!"
33
So
Joab
went
to
the
king
and
told
him
Absalom's
words.
Then
the
king
called
for
Absalom.
Absalom
came
and
bowed
facedown
on
the
ground
before
the
king,
and
the
king
kissed
him.

father's
house;
and
the
king
and
his
throne
shall
be
guiltless.
10
And
the
king
said,
Whoever
speaks
to
you,
you
also
shall
bring
him
to
me,
then
he
shall
not
touch
you
any
more.
11
And
she
said,
Please
let
the
king
remember
Jehovah
your
God,
that
the
avenger
of
blood
not
destroy
any
more,
and
that
they
may
not
destroy
my
son.
And
he
said,
As
Jehovah
lives,
not
one
hair
of
your
son
shall
fall
to
the
earth.
12
And
the
woman
said,
Please
let
your
servant
speak
a
word
to
my
lord
the
king.
And
he
said,
Speak.
13
And
the
woman
said,
And
why
have
you
thought
in
this
way
about
the
people
of
God?
Yea,
the
king
is
speaking
this
thing
as
a
guilty
one,
in
that
the
king
has
not
brought
back
his
outcast.
14
For
dying
we
die
and
are
as
water
which
is
spilled
on
the
ground,
which
cannot
be
gathered
up.
And
God
does
not
take
a
life,
but
has
devised
plans
so
that
the
outcast
is
not
cast
out
from
Him.
15
And
now
that
I
have
come
to
speak
this
word
to
my
lord
the
king,
because
the
people
made
me
afraid;
and
your
servant
said,
Please
let
me
speak
to
the
king;
it
may
be
the
king
shall
do
the
word
of
his
servant.
16
For
the
king
has
listened,
to
deliver
his
servant
out
of
the
hand
of
the
man
seeking
to
destroy
me
and
my
son
together,
out
of
the
inheritance
of
God.
17
And
your
servant
said,
Please
let
the
word
of
my
lord
the
king
be
comforting.
For
as
a
messenger
of
God,
so
is
my
lord
the
king,
to
understand
the
good
and
the
evil.
And
Jehovah
your
God
shall
be
with
you.
18
And
the
king
answered
and
said
to
the
woman,
Please
do
not
hide
from
me
the
thing
that
I
am
asking
you.
And
the
woman
said,
Then
let
my
lord
the
king
speak.
19
And
the
king
said,
Is
the
hand
of
Joab
with
you
in
all
this?
And
the
woman
answered
and
said,
As
your
soul
lives,
my
lord,
O
king,
none
shall
turn
to
the
right
or
to
the
left
from
all
that
my
lord
the
king
has
spoken.
For
your
servant
Joab
commanded
me,
and
he
put
all
these
words
in
your
servant's
mouth.
20
Your
servant
Joab
has
done
this
thing
to
turn
about
the
face
of
the
matter,
and
my
lord
is
wise
according
to
the
wisdom
of
an
angel
of
God,
to
know
all
that
is
in
the
land.
21
And
the
king
said
to
Joab,
Behold,
now,
I
have
done
this
thing.
Then
go,
bring
back
the
young
man
Absalom.
22
And
Joab
fell
on
his
face
to
the
earth,
and
bowed,
and
blessed
the
king.
And
Joab
said,
Today
your
servant
has
known
that
I
have
found
grace
in
your
eyes,
my
lord,
O
king,
in
that
the
king
has
done
the
word
of
his
servant.
23
And
Joab
rose
up
and
went
to
Geshur,
and
brought
Absalom
to
Jerusalem.
24
And
the
king
said,
Let
him
turn
to
his
house,
and
he
shall
not
see
my
face.
And
Absalom
turned
to
his
house,
and
he
did
not
see
the
king's
face.
25
And
no
man
was
handsome
like
Absalom
in
all
Israel,
to
be
so
greatly
praised.
From
the
sole
of
his
foot
to
his
crown,
there
was
not
a
blemish
in
him.
26
And
when
he
sheared
his
head
(for
it
was
at
the
end
of
days
of
days
that
he
sheared
it,
because
the
hair
was
heavy
on
him,
and
he
sheared
it
),
he
weighed
the
hair
of
his
head
at
two
hundred
shekels
by
the
king's
weight.
27
And
three
sons
were
born
to
Absalom,
and
one
daughter.
And
her
name
was
Tamar;
she
was
a
woman
of
a
beautiful
form.
28
And
Absalom
lived
in
Jerusalem
two
years,
and
had
not
seen
the
king's
face.
29
And
Absalom
sent
to
Joab,
to
send
him
to
the
king.
But
he
was
not
willing
to
come
to
him.
And
he
sent
again
a
second
time,
and
he
was
not
willing
to
come.
30
And
he
said
to
his
servants,
Behold,
Joab's
allotment
is
beside
mine,
and
he
has
barley
there.
Go
and
set
it
on
fire.
And
Absalom's
servants
set
the
allotment
on
fire.
31
And
Joab
rose
up
and
came
to
Absalom,
to
the
house,
and
said
to
him,
Why
have
your
servants
set
my
allotment
on
fire?
32
And
Absalom
said
to
Joab,
Behold,
I
sent
to
you,
saying,
Come
here,
and
I
will
send
you
to
the
king
to
say,
Why
have
I
come
from
Geshur?
It
was
good
for
me
to
be
there
still.
And
now,
let
me
see
the
king's
face,
and
if
there
is
guilt
in
me,
then
you
shall
cause
me
to
die.
33
And
Joab
came
to
the
king
and
told
him.
And
he
called
to
Absalom;
and
he
came
to
the
king,
and
bowed
to
him
on
his
face
to
the
earth
before
the
king.
And
the
king
gave
a
kiss
to
Absalom.
Ezekiel 18:31
31
Cast
away
all
your
transgressions
from
you
by
which
you
have
transgressed
in
them,
and
make
for
yourselves
a
new
heart
and
a
new
spirit;
for
why
will
you
die,
O
house
of
Israel?
2 Peter 3:9
9
The
Lord
of
the
promise
is
not
slow,
as
some
deem
slowness,
but
is
long-suffering
toward
us,
not
having
purposed
any
to
perish,
but
all
to
come
to
repentance.

1
Joab
son
of
Zeruiah
observed
that
the
king's
mind
was
on
Absalom.
2
So
Joab
sent
someone
to
Tekoa
to
bring
a
clever
woman
from
there.
He
told
her,
"Pretend
to
be
in
mourning:
dress
in
mourning
clothes
and
don't
put
on
any
oil.
Act
like
a
woman
who
has
been
mourning
for
the
dead
for
a
long
time.
3
Go
to
the
king
and
speak
these
words
to
him."
Then
Joab
told
her
exactly
what
to
say.
4
When
the
woman
from
Tekoa
came
to
the
king,
she
fell
with
her
face
to
the
ground
in
homage
and
said,
"Help
me,
my
king!"
5
"What's
the
matter?"
the
king
asked
her.
"To
tell
the
truth,
I
am
a
widow;
my
husband
died,"
she
said.
6
"Your
servant
had
two
sons.
They
were
fighting
in
the
field
with
no
one
to
separate
them,
and
one
struck
the
other
and
killed
him.
7
Now
the
whole
clan
has
risen
up
against
your
servant
and
said,
'Hand
over
the
one
who
killed
his
brother
so
we
may
put
him
to
death
for
the
life
of
the
brother
he
murdered.
We
will
destroy
the
heir!'
They
would
extinguish
my
one
remaining
ember
by
not
preserving
my
husband's
name
or
posterity
on
earth."
8
The
king
told
the
woman,
"Go
home.
I
will
issue
a
command
on
your
behalf."
9
Then
the
woman
of
Tekoa
said
to
the
king,
"My
lord
the
king,
may
any
blame
be
on
me
and
my
father's
house,
and
may
the
king
and
his
throne
be
innocent."
10
"Whoever
speaks
to
you,"
the
king
said,
"bring
him
to
me.
He
will
not
trouble
you
again!"
11
She
replied,
"Please,
may
the
king
invoke
the
LORD
your
God,
so
that
the
avenger
of
blood
will
not
increase
the
loss,
and
they
will
not
eliminate
my
son!"
"As
the
LORD
lives,"
he
vowed,
"not
a
hair
of
your
son
will
fall
to
the
ground."
12
Then
the
woman
said,
"Please,
may
your
servant
speak
a
word
to
my
lord
the
king?"
"Speak,"
he
replied.
13
The
woman
asked,
"Why
have
you
devised
something
similar
against
the
people
of
God?
When
the
king
spoke
as
he
did
about
this
matter,
he
has
pronounced
his
own
guilt.
The
king
has
not
brought
back
his
own
banished
one.
14
For
we
will
certainly
die
and
be
like
water
poured
out
on
the
ground,
which
can't
be
recovered.
But
God
would
not
take
away
a
life;
He
would
devise
plans
so
that
the
one
banished
from
Him
does
not
remain
banished.
15
"Now
therefore,
I've
come
to
present
this
matter
to
my
lord
the
king
because
the
people
have
made
me
afraid.
Your
servant
thought:
I
must
speak
to
the
king.
Perhaps
the
king
will
grant
his
servant's
request.
16
The
king
will
surely
listen
in
order
to
rescue
his
servant
from
the
hand
of
this
man
who
would
eliminate
both
me
and
my
son
from
God's
inheritance.
17
Your
servant
thought:
May
the
word
of
my
lord
the
king
bring
relief,
for
my
lord
the
king
is
able
to
discern
the
good
and
the
bad
like
the
Angel
of
God.
May
the
LORD
your
God
be
with
you."
18
Then
the
king
answered
the
woman,
"I'm
going
to
ask
you
something;
don't
conceal
it
from
me!"
"Let
my
lord
the
king
speak,"
the
woman
replied.
19
The
king
asked,
"Did
Joab
put
you
up
to
all
this?"
The
woman
answered.
"As
surely
as
you
live,
my
lord
the
king,
no
one
can
turn
to
the
right
or
left
from
all
my
lord
the
king
says.
Yes,
your
servant
Joab
is
the
one
who
gave
orders
to
me;
he
told
your
servant
exactly
what
to
say.
20
Joab
your
servant
has
done
this
to
address
the
issue
indirectly,
but
my
lord
has
wisdom
like
the
wisdom
of
the
Angel
of
God,
knowing
everything
on
earth."
21
Then
the
king
said
to
Joab,
"I
hereby
grant
this
request.
Go,
bring
back
the
young
man
Absalom."
22
Joab
fell
with
his
face
to
the
ground
in
homage
and
praised
the
king.
"Today,"
Joab
said,
"your
servant
knows
I
have
found
favor
with
you,
my
lord
the
king,
because
the
king
has
granted
the
request
of
your
servant."
23
So
Joab
got
up,
went
to
Geshur,
and
brought
Absalom
to
Jerusalem.
24
However,
the
king
added,
"He
may
return
to
his
house,
but
he
may
not
see
my
face."
So
Absalom
returned
to
his
house,
but
he
did
not
see
the
king.
25
No
man
in
all
Israel
was
as
handsome
and
highly
praised
as
Absalom.
From
the
sole
of
his
foot
to
the
top
of
his
head,
he
did
not
have
a
single
flaw.
26
When
he
shaved
his
head--
he
shaved
it
every
year
because
his
hair
got
so
heavy
for
him
that
he
had
to
shave
it
off--
he
would
weigh
the
hair
from
his
head
and
it
would
be
five
pounds
according
to
the
royal
standard.
27
Three
sons
were
born
to
Absalom,
and
a
daughter
named
Tamar,
who
was
a
beautiful
woman.
28
Absalom
resided
in
Jerusalem
two
years
but
never
saw
the
king.
29
Then
Absalom
sent
for
Joab
in
order
to
send
him
to
the
king,
but
Joab
was
unwilling
to
come.
So
he
sent
again,
a
second
time,
but
he
still
wouldn't
come.
30
Then
Absalom
said
to
his
servants,
"See,
Joab
has
a
field
right
next
to
mine,
and
he
has
barley
there.
Go
and
set
fire
to
it!"
So
Absalom's
servants
set
the
field
on
fire.
31
Then
Joab
came
to
Absalom's
house
and
demanded,
"Why
did
your
servants
set
my
field
on
fire?"
32
"Look,"
Absalom
explained
to
Joab,
"I
sent
for
you
and
said,
'Come
here.
I
want
to
send
you
to
the
king
to
ask:
Why
have
I
come
back
from
Geshur?
I'd
be
better
off
if
I
were
still
there.'
So
now,
let
me
see
the
king.
If
I
am
guilty,
let
him
kill
me."
33
Joab
went
to
the
king
and
told
him.
So
David
summoned
Absalom,
who
came
to
the
king
and
bowed
down
with
his
face
to
the
ground
before
the
king.
Then
the
king
kissed
Absalom.
