1
After
these
things
the
word
of
the
LORD
came
unto
Abram
in
a
vision,
saying,
Fear
not,
Abram:
I
am
thy
shield,
and
thy
exceeding
great
reward.
2
And
Abram
said,
Lord
GOD,
what
wilt
thou
give
me,
seeing
I
go
childless,
and
the
steward
of
my
house
is
this
Eliezer
of
Damascus?
3
And
Abram
said,
Behold,
to
me
thou
hast
given
no
seed:
and,
lo,
one
born
in
my
house
is
mine
heir.
4
And,
behold,
the
word
of
the
LORD
came
unto
him,
saying,
This
shall
not
be
thine
heir;
but
he
that
shall
come
forth
out
of
thine
own
bowels
shall
be
thine
heir.
5
And
he
brought
him
forth
abroad,
and
said,
Look
now
toward
heaven,
and
tell
the
stars,
if
thou
be
able
to
number
them:
and
he
said
unto
him,
So
shall
thy
seed
be.
6
And
he
believed
in
the
LORD;
and
he
counted
it
to
him
for
righteousness.
7
And
he
said
unto
him,
I
am
the
LORD
that
brought
thee
out
of
Ur
of
the
Chaldees,
to
give
thee
this
land
to
inherit
it.
8
And
he
said,
Lord
GOD,
whereby
shall
I
know
that
I
shall
inherit
it?
9
And
he
said
unto
him,
Take
me
an
heifer
of
three
years
old,
and
a

old,
and
a
ram
of
three
years
old,
and
a
turtledove,
and
a
young
pigeon.
10
And
he
took
to
him
all
these,
and
divided
them
in
the
middle,
and
laid
each
piece
one
against
another:
but
the
birds
divided
he
not.
11
And
when
the
fowls
came
down
on
the
carcasses,
Abram
drove
them
away.
12
And
when
the
sun
was
going
down,
a
deep
sleep
fell
on
Abram;
and,
see,
an
horror
of
great
darkness
fell
on
him.
13
And
he
said
to
Abram,
Know
of
a
surety
that
your
seed
shall
be
a
stranger
in
a
land
that
is
not
their's,
and
shall
serve
them;
and
they
shall
afflict
them
four
hundred
years;
14
And
also
that
nation,
whom
they
shall
serve,
will
I
judge:
and
afterward
shall
they
come
out
with
great
substance.
15
And
you
shall
go
to
your
fathers
in
peace;
you
shall
be
buried
in
a
good
old
age.
16
But
in
the
fourth
generation
they
shall
come
here
again:
for
the
iniquity
of
the
Amorites
is
not
yet
full.
17
And
it
came
to
pass,
that,
when
the
sun
went
down,
and
it
was
dark,
behold
a
smoking
furnace,
and
a
burning
lamp
that
passed
between
those
pieces.
18
In
the
same
day
the
LORD
made
a
covenant
with
Abram,
saying,
To
your
seed
have
I
given
this
land,
from
the
river
of
Egypt
to
the
great
river,
the
river
Euphrates:

The
Kenites,

And
the

the
Amorites,
and
the
Canaanites,
and
the
Girgashites,
and
the
Jebusites.

was

his

I

as
you

1
After
these
things
the
word
of
the
LORD
came
to
Abram
in
a
vision:
"Fear
not,
Abram!
I
am
your
shield
and
the
one
who
will
reward
you
in
great
abundance."
2
But
Abram
said,
"O
sovereign
LORD,
what
will
you
give
me
since
I
continue
to
be
childless,
and
my
heir
is
Eliezer
of
Damascus?"
3
Abram
added,
"Since
you
have
not
given
me
a
descendant,
then
look,
one
born
in
my
house
will
be
my
heir!"
4
But
look,
the
word
of
the
LORD
came
to
him:
"This
man
will
not

your

but
instead
a

who

The
LORD

said,
"Gaze

Then
he

"So

1
After
all
these
things
happened,
the
word
of
the
Lord
came
to
Abram
in
a
vision.
God
said,
"Abram,
don't
be
afraid.
I
will
defend
you
and
give
you
a
great
reward."
2
But
Abram
said,
"Lord
God,
there
is
nothing
you
can
give
me
that
will
make
me
happy,
because
I
have
no
son.
My
slave
Eliezer
from
Damascus
will
get
everything
I
own
after
I
die."
3
Abram
said,
"You
have
given
me
no
son,
so
a
slave
born
in
my
house
will
get
everything
I
have."
4
Then
the
Lord
spoke
to
Abram
and
said,
"That
slave
will
not
be
the
one
to
get
what
you
have.
You
will
have
a
son
who
will
get
everything
you
own."
5
Then
God
led
Abram
outside
and
said,
"Look
at
the
sky.
See
the
many
stars.
There
are
so
many
you
cannot
count
them.
Your
family
will
be

Abram
believed
the
Lord,
and
because
of
this

the
Lord
accepted
him
as
one
who
has
done
what
is
right.
7
He
said
to
Abram,
"I

the
Lord

Babylonia.
I
did
this
so
that
I
could
give
you
this
land.
You
will
own
this
land."
8
But
Abram
said,
"Lord
God,
how
can
I
be
sure
that
I
will
get
this
land?"
9
God
said
to
Abram,
"We
will
make
an
agreement.
Bring
me
a
three-year-old
cow,
a
three-year-old
goat,
a
three-year-old
ram,
a
dove,
and
a
young
pigeon."
10
Abram
brought
all
these
to
God.
Abram
killed
these

pieces.
Then
he
laid

Abram
chased

away.

The
sun
began
to
go

and
Abram
got
very
sleepy.
While
he
was

a
very
terrible
darkness

Then
the

After
these
things,
the
word
of
the
Lord
came
to
Abram
in
a
special
dream,
saying,
"Do
not
be
afraid,
Abram.
I
am
your
safe
place.
Your
reward
will
be
very
great."
2
Then
Abram
said,
"O
Lord
God,
what
will
You
give
me?
For
I
have
no
child.
And
the
one
who
is
to
receive
what
belongs
to
me
is
Eliezer
of
Damascus."
3
Abram
said,
"Because
You
have
not
given
me
a
child,
one
born
in
my
house
will
be
given
all
I
have."
4
Then
the
word
of
the
Lord
came
to
him,
saying,
"This
man
will
not
be
given
what

yours.
But
he

be
given
what

yours."

He
took
him
outside
and
said,
"Now
look
up
into
the
heavens
and
add
up
the
stars,
if
you
are
able
to
number
them."
Then
He
said

Abram

Then
Abram
brought
all
these
to
Him,
and
cut
them
in
two.

he
laid
each
half
beside
the

he

After
these

But

I

I

3
Abram
said,
"Look,
you
have
given
me
no
son,
so
a
slave
born
in
my
house
will
inherit
everything
I
have."
4
Then
the
Lord
spoke
his
word
to
Abram:
"He
will
not
be
the
one
to
inherit
what
you
have.
You
will
have
a
son
of
your
own
who
will
inherit
what

5
Then
God
led
Abram
outside
and
said,
"Look
at
the

There
are
so
many
stars

them.
Your

this
land

But
Abram
said,
"Lord
God,
how
can
I
be
sure
that
I

own
this
land?"
9
The
Lord
said
to

10
Abram
brought

all
to

Then
Abram
killed

half.
But
he

11
Later,
large
