Deuteronomy 3:1 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 "We turned and went on the road to Bashan. King Og of Bashan and all his men came out to fight against us at Edrei.
2 The Lord said to me, 'Don't be afraid of Og. I have decided to give him to you. I will give you all his men and his land. You will defeat him just as you defeated Sihon, the Amorite king who ruled in Heshbon.'
3 "So the Lord our God let us defeat King Og of Bashan. We destroyed him and all his men. Not one of them was left.
4 Then we took all the cities that belonged to Og at that time. We took all the cities from Og's people—60 cities in the area of Argob, Og's kingdom in Bashan.
5 All these cities were very strong. They had high walls, gates, and strong bars on the gates. There were also many towns that did not have walls.
6 We destroyed them just as we destroyed the cities of King Sihon of Heshbon. We completely destroyed every city and all the people in them, even the women and the babies.
7 But we kept all the cattle and the valuable things from the cities for ourselves.
8 "In that way we took the land from the two Amorite kings. We took that land on the east side of the Jordan River, from Arnon Valley to Mount Hermon.
9 (The people from Sidon call Mount Hermon, Sirion, but the Amorites called it Senir.)
10 We took all the cities in the high plain and all of Gilead. We took all of Bashan, all the way to Salecah and Edrei. Salecah and Edrei were cities of Og's kingdom of Bashan."
11 (Og was the king of Bashan. He was one of the few Rephaites still alive. His bed was made from iron, and it was over 13 feet long and 6 feet wide. The bed is still in the city of Rabbah, where the Ammonites live.)
12 "So we took that land to be ours. I gave part of this land to the tribes of Reuben and Gad. I gave them the land from Aroer in the Arnon Valley to the hill country of Gilead with the cities in it. They got half of the hill country of Gilead.
13 I gave the other half of Gilead and the whole area of Bashan to half the tribe of Manasseh." (Bashan was Og's kingdom. Part of Bashan was called Argob. It was also called the Land of Rephaim.
14 Jair, from the tribe of Manasseh, took the whole area of Argob. That area went all the way to the border of the Geshurites and the Maacathites. It was named for Jair, and even today people call Bashan the Towns of Jair.)
15 "I gave Gilead to Makir.
16 And to the tribe of Reuben and the tribe of Gad, I gave the land that begins at Gilead and goes from the Arnon Valley to the Jabbok River. The middle of the valley is one border. The Jabbok River is the border for the Ammonites.
17 The Jordan River near the desert is their western border. Lake Galilee is north of this area and the Dead Sea is to the south. It is at the bottom of the cliffs of Pisgah, which are to the east.
18 "At that time I gave those tribes this command: 'The Lord your God has given you the land on this side of the Jordan River to live in. But now your fighting men must take their weapons and lead the other Israelite tribes across the river.
19 Your wives, your little children, and your cattle (I know you have many cattle) will stay here in the cities I have given you.
20 But you must help your Israelite relatives until they take the land that the Lord is giving them on the other side of the Jordan River. Help them until the Lord gives them peace there, just as he did for you here. Then you may come back to this land that I have given you.'
21 "Then I told Joshua, 'You have seen all that the Lord your God has done to these two kings. The Lord will do the same thing to all the kingdoms you will enter.
22 Don't fear the kings of these lands, because the Lord your God will fight for you.'
23 "Then I begged the Lord to do something special for me. I said,
24 'Lord God, I am your servant. I know that you have shown me only a small part of the wonderful and powerful things you will do. There is no god in heaven or earth that can do the great and powerful things you have done.
25 Please let me go across the Jordan River and see the good land on the other side. Let me see the beautiful hill country and Lebanon.'
26 "But the Lord was angry with me because of you and refused to listen to me. The Lord said to me, 'That's enough! Don't say another word about this.
27 Go up to the top of Mount Pisgah. Look to the west, to the north, to the south, and to the east. You may see these things with your eyes, but you can never go across the Jordan River.
28 You must give instructions to Joshua. Encourage him. Make him strong, because Joshua must lead the people across the Jordan River. You can see the land, but Joshua will lead them into that land. He will help them take the land and live in it.'
29 "So we stayed in the valley across from Beth Peor.
1 Then we turned H6437 , and went up H5927 the way H1870 NMS to Bashan H1316 : and Og H5747 the king H4428 NMS of Bashan H1316 came out H3318 W-VQY3MS against H7125 us , he H1931 PPRO-3MS and all H3605 W-CMS his people H5971 , to battle H4421 at Edrei H154 .
2 And the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-1MS me , Fear H3372 him not H408 NPAR : for H3588 CONJ I will deliver H5414 VQQ1MS him , and all H3605 NMS his people H5971 , and his land H776 , into thy hand H3027 ; and thou shalt do H6213 unto him as H834 RPRO thou didst H6213 VQQ2MS unto Sihon H5511 king H4428 NMS of the Amorites H567 , which H834 RPRO dwelt H3427 VQPMS at Heshbon H2809 .
3 So the LORD H3068 EDS our God H430 delivered H5414 W-VQQ3MS into our hands H3027 Og H5747 also H1571 CONJ , the king H4428 NMS of Bashan H1316 , and all H3605 NMS his people H5971 : and we smote H5221 him until H5704 PREP none H1115 PREP was left H7604 to him remaining H8300 .
4 And we took H3920 all H3605 NMS his cities H5892 at that H1931 D-PPRO-3FS time H6256 , there was H1961 VQP3FS not H3808 NADV a city H7151 NFS which H834 RPRO we took H3947 not H3808 NADV from them , threescore H8346 cities H5892 GFS , all H3605 NMS the region H2256 of Argob H709 , the kingdom H4467 of Og H5747 in Bashan H1316 .
5 All H3605 NMS these H428 PMP cities H5892 GFP were fenced H1219 with high H1364 walls H2346 , gates H1817 , and bars H1280 ; beside H905 unwalled H6521 towns H5892 a great H3966 ADV many H7235 VHFA .
6 And we utterly destroyed H2763 them , as H834 K-RPRO we did H6213 unto Sihon H5511 king H4428 NMS of Heshbon H2809 , utterly destroying H2763 the men H4962 , women H802 D-NFP , and children H2945 , of every H3605 NMS city H5892 GFS .
7 But all H3605 W-CMS the cattle H929 D-NFS , and the spoil H7998 of the cities H5892 , we took for a prey H962 to ourselves .
8 And we took H3947 at that H1931 D-PPRO-3FS time H6256 out of the hand H3027 M-GFS of the two H8147 ONUM kings H4428 CMP of the Amorites H567 D-TMS the land H776 D-GFS that H834 RPRO was on this side H5676 Jordan H3383 D-EFS , from the river H5158 of Arnon H769 unto H5704 PREP mount H2022 CMS Hermon H2768 ;
9 ( Which Hermon H2768 the Sidonians H6722 call H7121 Sirion H8303 ; and the Amorites H567 call H7121 it Shenir H8149 ; )
10 All H3605 NMS the cities H5892 of the plain H4334 , and all H3605 NMS Gilead H1568 , and all H3605 NMS Bashan H1316 , unto H5704 PREP Salchah H5548 and Edrei H154 , cities H5892 of the kingdom H4467 of Og H5747 in Bashan H1316 .
11 For H3588 CONJ only H7535 ADV Og H5747 king H4428 NMS of Bashan H1316 remained H7604 VNQ3MS of the remnant H3499 of giants H7497 ; behold H2009 IJEC , his bedstead H6210 was a bedstead H6210 of iron H1270 NMS ; is it H1931 PPRO-3FS not H3808 in Rabbath H7237 of the children H1121 of Ammon H5983 ? nine H8672 MFS cubits H520 was the length H753 thereof , and four H702 W-BFS cubits H520 the breadth H7341 CMS-3FS of it , after the cubit H520 of a man H376 NMS .
12 And this H2063 D-DFS land H776 D-GFS , which we possessed H3423 at that H1931 D-PPRO-3FS time H6256 , from Aroer H6177 , which H834 RPRO is by H5921 PREP the river H5158 NMS Arnon H769 , and half H2677 mount H2022 Gilead H1568 , and the cities H5892 thereof , gave H5414 VQQ1MS I unto the Reubenites H7206 and to the Gadites H1425 .
13 And the rest H3499 of Gilead H1568 , and all H3605 NMS Bashan H1316 , being the kingdom H4467 of Og H5747 , gave H5414 VQQ1MS I unto the half H2677 tribe H7626 CMS of Manasseh H4519 ; all H3605 NMS the region H2256 of Argob H709 , with all H3605 NMS Bashan H1316 , which H1931 D-PPRO-3MS was called H7121 VNY3MS the land H776 GFS of giants H7497 .
14 Jair H2971 the son H1121 of Manasseh H4519 took H3947 VQQ3MS all H3605 NMS the country H2256 of Argob H709 unto H5704 PREP the coasts H1366 CMS of Geshuri H1651 and Maachathi H4602 ; and called H7121 W-VQY3MS them after H5921 PREP his own name H8034 CMS-3MS , Bashan H1316 - havoth - jair , unto H5704 PREP this H2088 D-PMS day H3117 D-AMS .
15 And I gave H5414 VQQ1MS Gilead H1568 unto Machir H4353 .
16 And unto the Reubenites H7206 and unto the Gadites H1425 I gave H5414 VQQ1MS from H4480 PREP Gilead H1568 even unto H5704 W-PREP the river H5158 NMS Arnon H769 half H8432 the valley H5158 , and the border H1366 even unto H5704 W-PREP the river H5158 Jabbok H2999 , which is the border H1366 CMS of the children H1121 of Ammon H5983 ;
17 The plain H6160 also , and Jordan H3383 , and the coast H1366 thereof , from Chinnereth H3672 even unto H5704 W-PREP the sea H3220 NMS of the plain H6160 , even the salt H4417 sea H3220 NMS , under H8478 NMS Ashdoth H798 - pisgah eastward H4217 .
18 And I commanded H6680 you at that H1931 D-PPRO-3FS time H6256 , saying H559 L-VQFC , The LORD H3068 EDS your God H430 hath given H5414 VQQ3MS you this H2063 D-DFS land H776 D-GFS to possess H3423 it : ye shall pass over H5674 armed H2502 before H6440 L-CMP your brethren H251 the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , all H3605 NMS that are meet for the war H1121 .
19 But H7535 ADV your wives H802 , and your little ones H2945 , and your cattle H4735 , ( for I know H3045 VQY1MS that H3588 CONJ ye have much H7227 AMS cattle H4735 NMS , ) shall abide H3427 in your cities H5892 which H834 RPRO I have given H5414 VQQ1MS you ;
20 Until H5704 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS have given rest H5117 unto your brethren H251 , as well as unto you , and until they H1992 PPRO-3MP also H1571 CONJ possess H3423 the land H776 D-GFS which H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS your God H430 hath given H5414 VQPMS them beyond H5676 Jordan H3383 D-EFS : and then shall ye return H7725 every man H376 NMS unto his possession H3425 , which H834 RPRO I have given H5414 VQQ1MS you .
21 And I commanded H6680 Joshua H3091 at that H1931 D-PPRO-3FS time H6256 , saying H559 L-VQFC , Thine eyes H5869 CMD-2MS have seen H7200 all H3605 NMS that H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS your God H430 hath done H6213 VQQ3MS unto these H428 D-DPRO-3MP two H8147 kings H4428 : so H3651 ADV shall the LORD H3068 EDS do H6213 VQY3MS unto all H3605 NMS the kingdoms H4467 whither H834 RPRO thou H859 PPRO-2MS passest H5674 .
22 Ye shall not H3808 NADV fear H3372 them : for H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS your God H430 he H1931 PPRO-3MS shall fight H3898 for you .
23 And I besought H2603 the LORD H3068 EDS at that H1931 D-PPRO-3FS time H6256 , saying H559 L-VQFC ,
24 O Lord H136 EDS GOD H3069 , thou H859 PPRO-2MS hast begun H2490 to show H7200 thy servant H5650 thy greatness H1433 , and thy mighty H2389 hand H3027 CFS-2MS : for H834 RPRO what H4310 IPRO God H410 EDS is there in heaven H8064 BD-NMP or in earth H776 , that H834 RPRO can do H6213 VQY3MS according to thy works H4639 , and according to thy might H1369 ?
25 I pray thee H4994 IJEC , let me go over H5674 , and see H7200 the good H2896 land H776 D-GFS that H834 RPRO is beyond H5676 Jordan H3383 D-EFS , that H2088 D-PMS goodly H2896 D-NMS mountain H2022 , and Lebanon H3844 .
26 But the LORD H3068 EDS was wroth H5674 with me for your sakes H4616 , and would not H3808 W-NPAR hear H8085 me : and the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 me , Let it suffice H7227 AMS thee ; speak H1696 VPFC no H408 NPAR more H3254 unto H413 PREP-1MS me of this H2088 D-PMS matter H1697 .
27 Get thee up H5927 into the top H7218 NMS of Pisgah H6449 , and lift up H5375 thine eyes H5869 CMD-2MS westward H3220 , and northward H6828 , and southward H8486 , and eastward H4217 , and behold H7200 W-VQI2MS it with thine eyes H5869 : for H3588 CONJ thou shalt not H3808 NADV go over H5674 this H2088 D-PMS Jordan H3383 D-EFS .
28 But charge H6680 Joshua H3091 , and encourage H2388 him , and strengthen H553 him : for H3588 CONJ he H1931 PPRO-3MS shall go over H5674 VQY3MS before H6440 L-CMP this H2088 D-PMS people H5971 , and he H1931 W-PPRO-3MS shall cause them to inherit H5157 the land H776 D-GFS which H834 RPRO thou shalt see H7200 VQY2MS .
29 So we abode H3427 in the valley H1516 over against H4136 Beth H1047 - peor .
