Exodus 30:1 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 "Make an altar from acacia wood. You will use this altar for burning incense.
2 You must make the altar square—1 cubit long and 1 cubit wide. It must be 2 cubits high. There will be horns at the four corners. These horns must be made as one piece with the altar.
3 Cover the top, the horns, and all four sides of the altar with pure gold. Then put gold trim all around the altar.
4 Below this trim there should be two gold rings. There should be two gold rings on opposite sides of the altar. These gold rings will be used with poles to carry the altar.
5 Make the poles from acacia wood and cover them with gold.
6 Put the altar just outside the special curtain that hangs in front of the Box of the Agreement. So the altar will be in front of the mercy-cover that is above the Agreement. This is the place where I will meet with you.
7 "Aaron must burn sweet-smelling incense on the altar every morning. He will do this when he comes to care for the lamps.
8 He must burn incense again when he checks the lamps in the evenings so that incense will be burned before the Lord every day forever.
9 Don't use this altar for offering any other kind of incense or burnt offering or for any kind of grain offering or drink offering.
10 "Once a year Aaron must make a special sacrifice. He will use the blood of the sin offering to erase the sins of the people. He will do this at the horns of this altar. This day will be called the Day of Atonement, and it will be a very special day for the Lord."
11 The Lord said to Moses,
12 "Count the Israelites so that you will know how many people there are. Every time this is done, each man must make a payment for himself to the Lord so that nothing terrible will happen to the people.
13 Each man who is counted must pay?shekel of silver. (That is?shekel by the official measure. This shekel weighs 20 gerahs. ) This half shekel is an offering to the Lord.
14 Every man who is at least 20 years old must be counted. And every man who is counted must give the Lord this offering.
15 The rich must not give more than?shekel, and the poor must not give less than?shekel. All people will make the same offering to the Lord. This will be a payment for your life.
16 Gather this money from the Israelites. Use the money for the service in the Meeting Tent. This payment will be a way for the Lord to remember his people. They will be paying for their own lives."
17 The Lord said to Moses,
18 "Make a bronze bowl and put it on a bronze base. You will use this for washing. Put the bowl between the Meeting Tent and the altar. Fill the bowl with water.
19 Aaron and his sons must wash their hands and feet with the water from this bowl.
20 Every time they enter the Meeting Tent, they must wash with that water so that they will not die. They must also wash every time they come near the altar to burn incense or to offer gifts to the Lord.
21 They must wash their hands and their feet so that they will not die. This will be a law that continues forever for Aaron and his people who will live in the future."
22 Then the Lord said to Moses,
23 "Find the finest spices. Get 12 pounds of liquid myrrh, half that amount (that is, 6 pounds ) of sweet-smelling cinnamon, and 12 pounds of sweet-smelling cane,
24 and 12 pounds of cassia. Use the official measure to measure all these things. Also get 1 gallon of olive oil.
25 "Mix all these things to make a special sweet-smelling anointing oil.
26 Pour this oil on the Meeting Tent and on the Box of the Agreement. This will show that these things have a special purpose.
27 Pour the oil on the table and on all the dishes on the table. And pour this oil on the lamp and on all its tools. Pour the oil on the incense altar.
28 Also, pour the oil on the altar for burning offerings to God. Pour this oil on everything on that altar. Pour this oil on the bowl and on the base under the bowl.
29 You will make all these things holy. They will be very special to the Lord. Anything that touches these things will also become holy.
30 "Pour the oil on Aaron and his sons to show that they are separated from the rest of the people to serve as priests.
31 Tell the Israelites that the anointing oil is holy—it must always be used only for me.
32 This oil is holy and you must treat it as something special. Don't use the same formula for making perfume and don't let people use this oil like an ordinary perfume.
33 Whoever makes a perfume like that and puts it on anyone except a priest must be separated from the people."
34 Then the Lord said to Moses, "Get these sweet-smelling spices: resin, onycha, galbanum, and pure frankincense. Be sure that you have equal amounts of these spices.
35 Mix the spices together to make a sweet-smelling incense. Do this the same as a perfume maker would do it. Also mix salt with this incense. This will make it pure and special.
36 Grind some of the incense until it becomes a fine powder. Put the powder in front of the Holy Box that holds the Agreement in the Meeting Tent. This is the place where I meet with you. You must use this incense powder only for its very special purpose.
37 You must use it only in this special way for the Lord. You must also make it in a special way. Don't make any other incense in this way.
38 There may be people who will want to make some of this incense for themselves so that they can enjoy the smell. But whoever does this must be separated from their people."

3 And thou shalt overlay H6823 it with pure H2889 AMS gold H2091 NMS , the top H1406 thereof , and the sides H7023 thereof round about H5439 ADV , and the horns H7161 thereof ; and thou shalt make H6213 unto it a crown H2213 of gold H2091 NMS round about H5439 .
4 And two H8147 golden H2091 NMS rings H2885 shalt thou make H6213 VQY2MS to it under H8478 M-CFS the crown H2213 of it , by H5921 PREP the two H8147 ONUM corners H6763 thereof , upon H5921 PREP the two H8147 ONUM sides H6654 of it shalt thou make H6213 VQY2MS it ; and they shall be H1961 W-VQQ3MS for places H1004 for the staves H905 to bear H5375 it withal H1992 .
5 And thou shalt make H6213 the staves H905 of shittim H7848 wood H6086 CMP , and overlay H6823 them with gold H2091 .
6 And thou shalt put H5414 it before H6440 L-CMP the veil H6532 that H834 RPRO is by H5921 PREP the ark H727 of the testimony H5715 , before H6440 L-CMP the mercy seat H3727 that H834 RPRO is over H5921 PREP the testimony H5715 , where H834 RPRO I will meet H3259 with thee .
7 And Aaron H175 shall burn H6999 thereon H5921 PREP-3MS sweet H5561 incense H7004 every morning H1242 B-NMS : when he dresseth H3190 the lamps H5216 , he shall burn incense H6999 upon it .
8 And when Aaron H175 lighteth H5927 the lamps H5216 at H996 PREP even H6153 , he shall burn incense H6999 upon it , a perpetual H8548 incense H7004 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS throughout your generations H1755 .
9 Ye shall offer H5927 no H3808 NADV strange H2114 VQQ3FS incense H7004 thereon H5921 PREP-3MS , nor burnt sacrifice H5930 , nor meat offering H4503 ; neither H3808 NADV shall ye pour H5258 drink offering H5262 thereon H5921 PREP-3MS .
10 And Aaron H175 shall make an atonement H3722 upon H5921 PREP the horns H7161 of it once H259 OFS in a year H8141 with the blood H1818 of the sin offering H2403 of atonements H3725 : once H259 OFS in the year H8141 shall he make atonement H3722 upon H5921 PREP it throughout your generations H1755 : it H1931 PPRO-3MS is most holy H6944 unto the LORD H3068 .
11 And the LORD H3068 EDS spoke H1696 W-VPY3MS unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , saying H559 ,
12 When H3588 CONJ thou takest H5375 VQY2MS the sum H7218 NMS of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 after their number H6485 , then shall they give H5414 every man H376 NMS a ransom H3724 NMS for his soul H5315 NMS-3MS unto the LORD H3068 L-EDS , when thou numberest H6485 them ; that there be H1961 VQY3MS no H3808 W-NPAR plague H5063 among them , when thou numberest H6485 them .
13 This H2088 DPRO they shall give H5414 UNKN , every one H3605 NMS that passeth H5674 among H5921 PREP them that are numbered H6485 , half H4276 a shekel H8255 after the shekel H8255 of the sanctuary H6944 : (a shekel H8255 is twenty H6242 gerahs H1626 : ) a half H4276 shekel H8255 shall be the offering H8641 of the LORD H3068 L-EMS .
14 Every one H3605 NMS that passeth H5674 among H5921 PREP them that are numbered H6485 , from twenty H6242 years H8141 NFS old H1121 and above H4605 , shall give H5414 VHFA an offering H8641 unto the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
15 The rich H6223 shall not H3808 ADV give more H7235 , and the poor H1800 shall not H3808 NADV give less H4591 than half H4276 a shekel H8255 , when they give H5414 L-VQFC an offering H8641 unto the LORD H3068 EDS , to make an atonement H3722 for H5921 PREP your souls H5315 .
16 And thou shalt take H3947 the atonement H3725 money H3701 NMS of the children H1121 L-CMP of Israel H3478 , and shalt appoint H5414 it for H5921 PREP the service H5656 of the tabernacle H168 NMS of the congregation H4150 NMS ; that it may be H1961 W-VQQ3MS a memorial H2146 unto the children H1121 L-CMP of Israel H3478 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS , to make an atonement H3722 for H5921 PREP your souls H5315 .
17 And the LORD H3068 EDS spoke H1696 W-VPY3MS unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , saying H559 ,
18 Thou shalt also make H6213 a laver H3595 of brass H5178 CFS , and his foot H3653 also of brass H5178 CFS , to wash H7364 withal : and thou shalt put H5414 it between H996 W-PREP the tabernacle H168 NMS of the congregation H4150 NMS and the altar H4196 D-NMS , and thou shalt put H5414 water H4325 NMP therein H8033 ADV-3FS .
19 For Aaron H175 and his sons H1121 W-CMP-3MS shall wash H7364 their hands H3027 CFD-3MP and their feet H7272 thereat H4480 M-PREP-3MS :
20 When they go H935 into H413 PREP the tabernacle H168 NMS of the congregation H4150 NMS , they shall wash H7364 with water H4325 OMD , that they die H4191 VQY3MP not H3808 W-NPAR ; or H176 CONJ when they come near H5066 to H413 PREP the altar H4196 D-NMS to minister H8334 , to burn H6999 offering made by fire H801 unto the LORD H3068 L-NAME-4MS :
21 So they shall wash H7364 their hands H3027 CFD-3MP and their feet H7272 , that they die H4191 VQY3MP not H3808 W-NPAR : and it shall be H1961 W-VQQ3FS a statute H2706 forever H5769 NMS to them , even to him and to his seed H2233 throughout their generations H1755 .
22 Moreover the LORD H3068 EDS spoke H1696 W-VPY3MS unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , saying H559 ,
23 Take H3947 VQI2MS thou H859 W-PPRO-2MS also unto thee principal H7218 NMS spices H1314 , of pure H1865 myrrh H4753 five H2568 BFS hundred H3967 BFP shekels , and of sweet H1314 cinnamon H7076 half so much H4276 , even two hundred H3967 and fifty H2572 MMP shekels , and of sweet H1314 calamus H7070 two hundred H3967 and fifty H2572 MMP shekels ,
24 And of cassia H6916 five H2568 BFS hundred H3967 BFP shekels , after the shekel H8255 of the sanctuary H6944 , and of oil H8081 olive H2132 NMS a hin H1969 :
25 And thou shalt make H6213 it an oil H8081 NMS of holy H6944 ointment H4888 , an ointment H7545 compound H4842 after the art H4639 M-CMS of the apothecary H7543 : it shall be H1961 a holy H6944 anointing H4888 oil H8081 NMS .
26 And thou shalt anoint H4886 the tabernacle H168 NMS of the congregation H4150 NMS therewith , and the ark H727 of the testimony H5715 ,
27 And the table H7979 and all H3605 NMS his vessels H3627 , and the candlestick H4501 and his vessels H3627 , and the altar H4196 of incense H7004 ,
28 And the altar H4196 of burnt offering H5930 with all H3605 NMS his vessels H3627 , and the laver H3595 and his foot H3653 .
29 And thou shalt sanctify H6942 them , that they may be H1961 W-VQQ3MS most holy H6944 : whatsoever H3605 NMS toucheth H5060 them shall be holy H6942 .
30 And thou shalt anoint H4886 Aaron H175 and his sons H1121 CMP-3MS , and consecrate H6942 them , that they may minister unto me in the priest\'s office H3547 .
31 And thou shalt speak H1696 unto H413 W-PREP the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , saying H559 L-VQFC , This H2088 DPRO shall be H1961 VQY3MS a holy H6944 anointing H4888 oil H8081 NMS unto me throughout your generations H1755 .
32 Upon H5921 PREP man H120 NMS \'s flesh H1320 CMS shall it not H3808 NADV be poured H3251 , neither H3808 NADV shall ye make H6213 any other like it H3644 PART-3MS , after the composition H4971 of it : it H1931 PPRO-3MS is holy H6944 , and it shall be H1961 VQY3MS holy H6944 unto you .
33 Whosoever H376 NMS compoundeth H7543 any like it H3644 PART-3MS , or whosoever H834 RPRO putteth H5414 VHFA any of H4480 M-PREP-3MS it upon H5921 PREP a stranger H2114 VQPMS , shall even be cut off H3772 from his people H5971 .
34 And the LORD H3068 EDS said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP Moses H4872 , Take H3947 VQI2MS unto thee sweet spices H5561 , stacte H5198 , and onycha H7827 , and galbanum H2464 ; these sweet spices H5561 with pure H2134 frankincense H3828 : of each H905 shall there be H1961 a like H905 weight :
35 And thou shalt make H6213 it a perfume H7004 , a confection H7545 after the art H4639 M-CMS of the apothecary H7543 , tempered together H4414 , pure H2889 AMS and holy H6944 :
36 And thou shalt beat H7833 some of H4480 M-PREP-3FS it very small H1854 , and put H5414 of H4480 M-PREP-3FS it before H6440 L-CMP the testimony H5715 in the tabernacle H168 of the congregation H4150 NMS , where H834 RPRO I will meet H3259 with thee : it shall be H1961 VQY3FS unto you most holy H6944 .
37 And as for the perfume H7004 which H834 RPRO thou shalt make H6213 VQY2MS , ye shall not H3808 NADV make H6213 to yourselves according to the composition H4971 thereof : it shall be H1961 VQY3FS unto thee holy H6944 for the LORD H3068 .
38 Whosoever H376 NMS shall make H6213 VQY3MS like unto that H3644 , to smell H7306 thereto , shall even be cut off H3772 from his people H5971 .
